Scott is here! On time! Shoot us your questions.
Dave (Chicago)
Do you think that if Orten was still on the Bears they are worse than 3-2 and if Cutler was still in Denver the Broncos would still be 6-0 but blowing teams out?
Scott Van Pelt (1:01 PM)
If you listened to the show the other day, you know I'm a believe in Orton. He might not look the part, but I think he's the right guy for this Bronco team. Having said that, I don't know that he would make the Bears better than they've been. Their loss in Atlanta the other night wasn't Cutler's fault.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
Scott, What do you think of Mark Ingram?
Scott Van Pelt (1:03 PM)
I think he's the best player on the best team in America right now. He can run between the tackles. And if he gets to the edge, he can bust the big one. He's better than I thought he was, by a lot.
Todd (Columbus)
Terrelle Pryor.... QB, WR, or 2 guard?
Scott Van Pelt (1:05 PM)
I think eventually, he will be a good QB. (it's today's One Big thing - 3:55 ET on the show) But what happens so often with kids who get all this internet love, is that they see themselves as stars before they are. It's hard to grow into the role in a program like Ohio State. Expectations are never modest there. Nor should they be.
Dave (Baltimore)
scott, Do you have high expectations for the Terps Men's hoops this year?
Scott Van Pelt (1:06 PM)
Sure. They've got a ton of experience at guard, and Gary Williams is as good as there is on the bench. If they get anything out of their young big men, they'll be alright.
Joe (Austin)
SVP, you dressing up for Halloween? Got any good costume ideas?
Scott Van Pelt (1:07 PM)
Nope.
Brad (Vero Beach, FL)
Do you and Ryen get along off the set?
Scott Van Pelt (1:08 PM)
Yeah, that's my guy. He's funnier off the air than on the air, I just like to watch him do incline dumbell workouts and stand in awe.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
SVP: Have you ever left the show before its finish so you could take a shower?
Scott Van Pelt (1:09 PM)
No, but the other day I forgot to bring a change of underwear to the gym, so I wasn't wearing any on SportsCenter. Did you really want to know that?
phil (baltimore, md)
What is wrong with my Ravens?
Scott Van Pelt (1:10 PM)
I remember the emails I got from Ravens fans when I said I was going to withhold judgement until after the 3 game stretch they just finished. The funy thing is, even though they lost all three games, I still like them a lot. Oddly enough, it's their offense that's apparently going to take them as far as they'll go unless they get much better in the secondary.
Luke (Aurora, CO.)
Do you think Elvis Dumervil has a good chance of winning Defensive Player Of The Year, if he keeps up his production? He's on pace to break Michael Strahan's single-season sacks record.
Scott Van Pelt (1:11 PM)
Yeah the dude has 10 sacks in 6 games! His teammate Darrell Reid is on the show today in studio. I'll ask him about Elvis.
Rob (Tulsa, OK)
Dallas coach next year-who is the better choice? Chucky? or Shannan?
Scott Van Pelt (1:13 PM)
My gut says Shanahan, because I think Jerry Jones wants to be the biggest rock star. Gruden would be tougher to take the spotlight away from. Shanahan doesn't care about any of that...I don't think.

Have you ever showered with Ryen? Its green to do.
Scott Van Pelt (1:13 PM)
I'm all set. Separate showers. Thanks.
MICHELE (PITTSBURGH)
WHAT'S YOUR TAKE ON ADULTS GETTING DRESSED UP FOR HALLOWEEN, OR SHOULD IT ONLY BE FOR KIDS?JUST CURIOUS, I HAVE A PARTY TO GO TO THIS WEEKEND, AND I AM 32 SOMEHOW FEELS CREEPY!!!
Scott Van Pelt (1:14 PM)
Here's the benefit you have Michele. On Halloween, women can just go as a "naughty _____" cop, devil, nurse, schoolgirl. Put the word naughty in front of any of those words and you have a winning costum. Guys have to work way harder to try to come up with some topically humorous costume. Women can just embrace their inner ho.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
SVP: What will you be watching Monday night while the Redskins are on? We haven't seen a Monday night dog like this one in a while, huh?
Scott Van Pelt (1:15 PM)
I don't know how you can't watch this game. I can't wait to see what plays they run.
Graham (Athens, GA)
I liked your one big thing yesterday. Don't you think that there has gotta be some way to recruit college aged kids with an athletic background to be refs and umps? I mean they'd get to be with superstars all day, be on TV, and make pretty dang good money. This seems like they could almost start recruiting as well as Goldman Sachs. Rivals.com could even rate the top Ref prospects!
Scott Van Pelt (1:18 PM)
You're onto something there. The issue with a lot of the refs/umps is that they are older. Colin was pointing this out yesterday and I agree with him. You're senses don't get sharper as you age, and I think every league should aggressively recruit tomorrow's umpires because its obvious we need them today.
Christopher (Iowa)
A golf clubs question....what kind of irons do you play? How does it feel to walk around Augusta Nat'l?
Scott Van Pelt (1:20 PM)
I got some old Tommy Armour 845's. But play Titleist balls (naturally). Augusta Nat' is hard to describe. one of the few sporting venues that is better in person than on tv. If you are a golf fan, I'd say go for a day. You can buy a badge Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday for about the price for a decent seat at an NFL game. Go see for yourself.
Amr (Cleveland)
SVP-Are you going to throw the bucket of Reese's Cups at the end of your driveway this year, or are you going to hand it out in person?
Scott Van Pelt (1:21 PM)
I was just thinking about that yesterday. If I'm home, I'll hand it out. If I'm not, we'll leave the bowl and the note. Did anyone out there EVER just dump the bowl in their bag when they came across a house that did this?
JT (Colonial Heights, Va)
Will the yanks take the series tonight?
Scott Van Pelt (1:21 PM)
I like Lackey tonight.
Colt (Colorado)
I know that sports fans love an offensive team and player, but why isn't Ndamukong Suh getting any love in the Heisman talks? The guy is a true freak and game changer.
Scott Van Pelt (1:22 PM)
I think you have to listen more carefully. Most of the people I hear talking about (including Ryen and I) have mentioned his name at or near the top of the list.
Phil (Chicago)
True or False: Charlie Weis should get his resume ready.
Scott Van Pelt (1:24 PM)
False. Unless they lose a bunch of close games late to even out the close ones they won earlier. Things seem to have stabilized there. They're not great, but they're not a mess. I guess it all depends on how Notre Dame views itself.
Joe (Chicago)
Last year my roommate and I bought 4 bags of candy and just gave one bag to each of the first 4 kids. I don't think the parents were happy but we got over with it quick.
Scott Van Pelt (1:24 PM)
What'd you do for the rest of the night? Tell kids "tough luck, go find the kids who have bags in their bags?"
Tony A. (Garden Grove, CA)
Do you think the Angels will take the Yankees to game 7?
Scott Van Pelt (1:25 PM)
No, I like Lackey. I think he's better at home than on the road. I think he'll perform tonight. My thoughts really are just related to tonight's game.
Joe (Chicago)
No, we had to head out early for the night.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Do you think Clausen breaks the recent string of ND QBs who were hyped to be big time NFL QBs and ended up out of the league or carrying clip boards within two years?
Scott Van Pelt (1:27 PM)
I've taken a "wait and see" attitude on Clausen. He had a big bowl game against Hawaii and people got all excited...forgetting that it was against Hawaii. But this year he has single-handedly won a couple of games and seems to have the tools. He looks like a pro to me. (but guessing what you were getting at, so did Brady Quinn when he was at Notre Dame)
Rob (Indy)
SVP would the extended NFL season be a more likely and more tolerable idea if each team was granted 2 bye weeks?
Scott Van Pelt (1:28 PM)
If you add games, you'll have to add a bye week. The NFL season often becomes a battle of attrition anyway. Who can stay healthiest the longest.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Do you still ask the kids to perform something for the candy? We used to have to sing or tell a joke. Kids today just want to grab and go.
Scott Van Pelt (1:30 PM)
If someone asked me to perform some sort of a skit for a snickers mini, they would have found their pumpkin kicked in and a turd on their lawn. This isn't American Idol, it's Halloween. Here's how this works. Kid knock on door. I open door. Kid says "trick or treat". I give kid candy. Nowhere in this time honored tradition is the kid required to perform for my amusement.
Scott Van Pelt (1:30 PM)
And on that note....we'll talk to you guys next week. Enjoy today's show.
