Bruce (1:58 PM)
Thanks for joining me in the chat. My picks for this weekend's games are up on the site:http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=4581724andname=feldman_bruceI'm ready to talk some college football and am curious to see tonight's FSU-UNC game.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
Bruce, What is your top 5 for heisman?
Bruce (2:01 PM)
Ingram, Tebow, K. Moore, Keenum, Jerry Hughes.. next wave: Clausen, Pike, Suh, Ryan Mathews, Quizz and then maybe Golden Tate.
Matt (Athens, GA)
How good a shot does UGA have to beat UF? And is AJ Green going to win a Heisman by the time he leaves the Classic City?
Bruce (2:02 PM)
I don't like UGA's chances this year. Their D has really struggled again and I think UF's D-line will dominate them... Not sure, AJ looks like a 3-and-out kind of talent so I suspect it'd have to be next year and I'm not sure a first year QB will be able to consistently get it to him.
Bruce (2:02 PM)
It's near impossible for a WR to win the Heisman.
Matt (AL)
How is Jimmy Clausen still in the heisman race above Keenum and McCoy when Clausen loses big games and barely wins small ones and Keenum, who has won big games, has twice the yards he has this season. Is this ND bias?
Bruce (2:04 PM)
I'm not sure Clausen is above those two on a lot of Heisman lists at this point. But I think he's been terrific. It's been ND's defense that has really left them down. Clausen and Golden Tate have been superb this year.
Nate (Meridian)
Does TCU have to be impressive in a win over BYU to gain "style" points with the voters?
Bruce (2:05 PM)
Probably so. They also could use Clemson, a team they beat, to upset Miami and go on a roll to make their SOS look better.
Russell (Houston, Texas)
Bruce- I decided to try to get my question in early this week. Last weekend I saw some of the best defense I have seen in a while out of Texas and Oklahoma (the Big XII period). Do you think that Texas is playing at an SEC level and furthermore do you think Texas has the "mojo" to finish the season undefeated and take on the SEC Champion and win?
Bruce (2:06 PM)
I do think UT's D is playing at that level. Muschamp has done a very good job and the young secondary has really grown up. Plus Kindle and Lamarr Houston are really nasty up front. I don't see anyone in the Big 12 knocking them off.
SC (KCMO)
Chance of an Alabama upset this weekend?
Bruce (2:08 PM)
Anything's possible. Am curious to see what Monte Kiffin does with a week off to prep for McElroy and Ingram. And if Crompton, can somehow, play almost as well as he did against UGA, they'll have a shot, but that is a huge IF.
Patrick (NYC)
Bruce, Who do you think is better G. McCoy or Suh? Who get's drafted first in your opinion?
Bruce (2:09 PM)
Tough call. G. McCoy was the best player on the field last week. My guess is McCoy might go first but it could be 1-2. Athletic DTs like that are really hard to find.
Matt (KY)
Given Kentucky's schedule the rest of the way, could they be 9-3 when the year is over?
Bruce (2:10 PM)
Wow. It's kinda possible. At UGA and Tennessee seem like the two toughest games and the Dawgs have been really underwhelming. I think 8-4 is realistic. Wow.
Dillon Solley (Ardmore, Ok)
If jimmy clausen golden tate, micheal floyd, and kyle rudolpgh come back next year, where do you see notre dame?
Bruce (2:13 PM)
Plus Armando Allen...Preseason top 10 I suspect. The downside is four of the O-linemen are seniors and I think at best they probably only get one for an extra year. Having two O-linemen back isn't a good thing.
Bill (NC)
Is the SEC really the toughest this year? What about the Big 12?
Bruce (2:14 PM)
Not sure who the second best team in the Big 12 is? OK State? Texas Tech? Plus, the bottom of the Big 12 I think is worse than the bottom of the SEC.
Dillon Solley (Ardmore, Oklahoma)
Golden Tate has been awesome this year..how come he isnt up there in the heisman race?
Bruce (2:15 PM)
He does deserve some mention. Although Clausen is getting most of the ND attention and there are a bunch of other impressive receivers having big years.
Blake (Abilene, TX)
Bruce, You can probably see were I am going with this. How big of Georgia fans should the Longhorns become. I have herd sum grumbelings between the hedges?
Bruce (2:16 PM)
Will Muschamp probably would make a lot of UGA fans happy right now, but he has the keys to the kingdom in Austin. I just wonder how long Mack wants to still be the king in Texas before going to TV?
Pete (Oxford,MS)
Bruce, what is the biggest key in the Ole Miss-Arkansas game this weekend? the Rebels defending the pass or Snead building off his performance vs UAB?
Bruce (2:17 PM)
Ole Miss receivers getting open and Snead continuing to build off last week. Although Ark got six sacks last week and Ole Miss has been shaky up front.
Marc (Charlotte)
Bruce, as a Tar Heel alum, am I going to be happy or sad come 11:00 or so this evening?
Bruce (2:18 PM)
I think you'll be happy. I like Christian Ponder but I feel like tonight will be like a national coming-out party for Robert Quinn and that D-line.
Otto (CA)
If Tebow had left for the NFL last year and some other guy stepped in this year named Tom Smith and put up the same numbers Tebow is doing now, would he be in the Heisman race?
Bruce (2:19 PM)
You mean 3-2 TD-INT ratio in four SEC games? No, Tom Smith wouldn't be in the mix. But voters will hear so much about leadership, et al that it will weigh on them.
Bill (NC)
Bruce,What are South Carolina's chances against Florida on November 13th, assuming they both play well?
Bruce (2:20 PM)
If Garcia can keep the mistakes down, who knows.. it's possible. I think Carolina is the toughest regular season game UF has left.
Ben (Seattle)
I didn't see a pick for BC/ND in your predictions. What's the call?
Bruce (2:21 PM)
The streak is going end. I think ND will cruise to a win here.
Steve (Oregon)
Why is BYU ranked? Impressive wins over 3-3 Oklahoma, blow out loss at home?
Bruce (2:22 PM)
There aren't a lot of teams out there with strong records. They did beat OU in Texas.
David (Raleigh, NC)
Your team is down 5 with less than a minute to go on your own 40yrd line...who's your QB and why (must be a current college QB)?!
Bruce (2:23 PM)
If I can bring Golden Tate, Mike Floyd and Rudolph, I might take Jimmy Clausen. Although I'd be tempted to take Case Keenum because he can move a lot better or Colt McCoy.
Johnny Hazeltine (Las Vegas)
Just curious to know why you're constantly projecting Georgia Tech in a "middle tier" bowl game. They could finish the year 11-1 or 10-2, and you've got them going to the Emerald Bowl or the Music City Bowl.
Bruce (2:25 PM)
I know.. Aside from putting two ACC teams in the BCS, what are the bowls that would get you excited if you're an ACC fan?
Marc (Charlotte)
Bruce, UF doesn't play Carolina. They play South Carolina.
Bruce (2:25 PM)
typing fast.. you know.
Justin Singer (Miami)
Any chance the Canes can squeeze into the BCS game?
Bruce (2:27 PM)
They would need a lot of help. First, they have to win out. And then let's say there's an unbeaten SEC title team in one slot so then they need Texas upset, USC and probably Oregon to lose, Iowa to lose, Cincy to lose and maybe Boise as well. I could see half of those happening but not all of them.
David (Texas)
You seem to have left McCoy off your Heisman list is that because he hasn't been as dynamic as last year? If that is the case why did you put Tebow on there? You drinking too much of that Kool-Aid?
Bruce (2:28 PM)
I probably have drank some of the Kool-Aid although my Heisman top five is fluid. If Colt plays well this weekend on the road, he probably is going back towards the top. I like the unbeaten factor. Tebow at least hasn't thrown a bunch of picks.
Joe (Chattanooga)
How good is Eric Berry? First-rounder?
Bruce (2:29 PM)
I heard he's top five pick. He's physical. Has great ball skills. Is smart. And his character is off the charts. Everyone loves the guy.
Mike (Dallas, TX)
Why does Iowa get bashed so much nationally when they are the only team to have beaten three top 25 teams in the BCS by double digits, with two of those on the road?
Bruce (2:31 PM)
Because I think the Big Ten isn't getting much respect nationally and there is no "awe factor" to this team. They have been down in six of their seven games and to their credit that have come through each time, but people are going to think that stuff can't last the whole year.
Jon Brame (Houston)
What do you see Oklahoma doing the rest of the season?
Bruce (2:31 PM)
I think their D will carry them to 8-4.
Ron (Pollock Pines)
Ryan Mathews is the best back in the country. He put up numbers against #4, #5, and #21 ranked by the BCS. That is as good or better competition then anyone has played against. Ryan Mathews has the most yards and the most yards per game. He is also 3rd yards per carry.7.44. Why are people over looking him?
Bruce (2:33 PM)
Because he plays on a .500 team. Hopefully people saw how he ran wild on Boise State but otherwise he's too off the radar.
Dillon (Marysville)
Is Arizonas nick foles a Heisman of the future? he has the best % in the league and i think if he played more at Iowa, Arizona could have won.
Bruce (2:35 PM)
Nick Foles has been terrific. Who knows about the Heisman in a year or two? It's not like he's at a school where they have produced a bunch of Heisman candidates though. But I am happy to see him thriving. I spent a little time with him and his family while working on Meat Market. He was a very humble, solid guy. I was impressed a lot by how he carried himself.
Scooter (Atlanta)
Jacory Harris Heisman frontrunner 2010?
Bruce (2:36 PM)
He's definitely gonna be among the frontrunners. All of his receivers are back and he's got a lot of presence to him. Voters will know him.
Geoff (Raleigh)
If FSU had any sort of defense what-so-ever, where would Ponder be in the Heisman discussion in your opinion? He'd be 5-1 or 6-0 and have better stats than every other Heisman QB contender (especially tebow).
Bruce (2:36 PM)
Yes, but that's a big if.
Justin (Austin, TX)
Thoughts on Earl Thomas of Texas? Only a sophomore...
Bruce (2:37 PM)
Great all-around player, right in there with Eric Berry and Taylor Mays.
Nathaniel (Bristol, VA)
Is there anywhere in college football more intimidating than Blacksburg on a thursday night?
Bruce (2:38 PM)
I don't think so.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Bruce: With things going better for him now, do you think Evan Royster will forgo his final season at Penn State and enter the NFL draft?
Bruce (2:43 PM)
Not sure.. He's come on nicely in the past few weeks.
Jo (LA CAL)
K. Moore, Keenum, Jerry HughesI am being serious here, who are these guys and what teams do they play on?
Bruce (2:47 PM)
Seriously?
Jish (Ft. Lauderdale)
What do you think of Bo Levi Mitchell at SMU?
Bruce (2:50 PM)
He's been pretty good and they played Navy tough.. but they don't run it well enough to take advantage of the soft spot on Houston.
Craig G. (Fairfield, CA)
Can Dorin Dickerson make a claim as the best TE in the country?
Bruce (2:52 PM)
HE can claim it, but I think he'd be off. There's a bunch of other really good TEs out there... Dennis Pitta, Aaron Hernandez, Tony Moeki, Kyle Rudolph and probably the best two (Rob Gronkowski and Jermaine Gresham) are injured.
Jimmy (NC)
Bruce - Don't you find it a joke when a conference comes out and admits their officials "blew it?" A lot of good it does now, though Arkansas did have ample opportunities to win that game.
Bruce (2:52 PM)
Yeah, a lot of good that does for Arkansas.
Jack (Orlando)
Why does it seem like everyone hates Florida?
Bruce (2:53 PM)
Wait, I thought everyone in the media loves UF?
Les Miles (BR, La)
Bruce what can we do to get some respect in the west....?
Bruce (2:54 PM)
Beat Alabama. Then beat UF. What happened to your running game this year?
paul (Sacramento, CA)
Bruce. SERIOUSLY? No Anthony McCoy or Ed Dickson in the best TE category? Heck, they ARE the 2 best... More east coast bias, huh?
Bruce (2:55 PM)
Thanks.. my slip. I mentioned Pitta. He's not exactly playing at Maine or BC.
Rob (DC)
Who do you have in the PSU-Mich game? Any chance Penn State gets the Ann Arbor monkey off their back?
Bruce (2:55 PM)
I went with Penn State.
Michael (Kentucky)
Since Tebow is getting credit in the Heisman balloting for Florida's defense, does that mean we should take away his 2007 Heisman? Clearly his leadership was deficient that year, causing the defense to lose several games.
COREY (MISSISSIPPI)
IS Cal's coach in jepodary of his job!!!!!!!! Again they come into a season with lofty excepations and fall flat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bruce (2:57 PM)
Nah, they were really mediocre before he got there. They do underachieve it seems annually though.
Bruce (2:58 PM)
Blake from Abilene.. I did not know that. Impressive how Austin and Abilene have produced a bunch of good college QBs this year. If we say Tuscola lumps in with Abilene.
Brandon (Iowa)
Pick out the Big Ten's best quarterback right now! preseason the media said Juice, Daryll and Terrell. Besides Daryll the other two have fallen "off."
Bruce (2:59 PM)
Kafka?
Bruce (3:00 PM)
BigTen in a nutshell? Juice Williams has thrown one more TD pass this yr (4) than Ricky Stanzi has thrown for the other team (3 pick-sixes).
Sarah (Toledo, OH)
That's a disappointment Bruce, no love for Tate Forcier?
Bruce (3:01 PM)
Nah, I like him. He's a clutch player.. Great at throwing on the run and really tough but he's hit a wall the past few weeks.
Taylor (Charleston, SC)
Marc in Charlotte needs to realize that this isn't basketball season, and you got the right Carolina when talking about Florida's remaining football opponents... Keep up the good work! Go Cocks!
Bill (NC)
A mind teaser. Assume: (1) Tennessee beats Alabama; (2) Florida crushes MSU: (3) Missouri beats Texas: (4) Cincinnati wins: and (4) Iowa Crushes Mich State. Who are the top 5?
Bruce (3:03 PM)
Florida, Iowa, Cincy, TCU, Boise if they win.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Clark hasn't been that bad. Let's give him a chance.
Bruce (3:03 PM)
No, you're right, although he really struggled against Iowa in a big game.
Rob (Boise, Id)
What do you make of Boise State? Over-Rated or Under-Rated? Are they setting themselves up for a National Championship run next year?
Bruce (3:05 PM)
Underrated by fans. On target by the pollsters. Theyre a good young team that is very well coached. And they have one very impressive win where they dominated Oregon, who has a chance to win the Pac-10 and finish 11-1.
paul (Sacramento, CA)
Bruce, don't tell me what you think the NC game will be.. Tell me the one you want to see most....
Bruce (3:07 PM)
There's a curiousity to see USC vs. Florida. Not to say that USC is most deserving right now since they lost at Washington and UT, Iowa, Cincy, etc are all undefeated but this goes back years.
Bruce (3:07 PM)
Thanks Sarah, I appreciate that.
Mark (Chicago)
Clark stuggled against Iowa, as did Forcier and the tandem of Wisc QB's. When will people realize this is due to Iowa's defense and schemes, and not due to the players having "off" weeks?
Matt (Houston)
Who are some names that AandM should begin focusing on to replace Sherman. That loss to K-State was horrific.
Bruce (3:08 PM)
Kevin Sumlin and Tommy Tuberville was an assistant at AandM and is out of coaching.
Jeff (Owensboro, KY)
Bruce, Why don't you have Kentucky in your latest Bowl Projections? Do you think they won't win 6?
Bruce (3:09 PM)
Because I screwed up. Every week I have at least one regrettable move in those things. This week I got at least two in there.
Sarah (Toledo, OH)
Mark,No one can argue that Iowa's defense is good, but don't overestimate them. Granted Forcier struggled that game, but the Wolverines had a lot of rushing yards against that Iowa defense...
Tony (Columbus, GA)
I'm traveling to Starkville this weekend (hopefully to be an eyewitness to an upset). What do you think State's chances are of extending their winning streak against Fla in Starkville?
Bruce (3:10 PM)
Not too great but it's worth noting that Sarkisian upset Carroll in their first mentor vs. protege battle.
Bruce (3:10 PM)
But MSU doesn't have a Jake Locker, although I think State's D is better than U-Dub's.
Bruce (3:11 PM)
OK, three more questions...
Connor (Gainesville, FL)
I like how you admit that you make mistakes. Kudos Bruce. Nice name too, its my middle name.
Bruce (3:12 PM)
thanks.
Jorge (Argentina)
Why do you think Texas is number 3 in the nation if they have won 18 of the last 19 games? Are they underrated?
Bruce (3:13 PM)
Their offense hasn't been as sharp. Now OU has a great defense but against Tech it just seemed a bit out of sync.
Blake (Abilene, TX)
Who do you like to win the WSOP? Phil Ivey?
Bruce (3:14 PM)
Sure, he's one of three poker players I know. And I think I'd be remiss here if I didn't mention my colleague Chad Millman just did a feature on Ivey. I think it was Ivey.
RML (ATL)
With Denote Thompson coming on and UF having a few less imposing defensive teams on their schedule the next three weeks, do you see Meyer and Addazio opening up some long passes down field to bring some balance to the UF offense?
Bruce (3:15 PM)
I feel like they're trying but their O-line was shaky. Also Deonte has to catch more than one pass a game.
Darell (Nome,AK)
16-2 TD-Int ratio, undefeated, leading nation in pass efficiency.... is that a heisman resume for Kellen Moore?
Bruce (3:15 PM)
Yes. Doubt he'll win it but it might be enough to get him invited to it. It'll help him a lot of McCoy and Tebow lose a game.
Bruce (3:17 PM)
Thanks for all of the questions. If you have anything I didn't get to, send it to my blog on Insider or via Twitter at BFeldmanESPN. Enjoy the game tonight.
