We're getting Tedy!
Tedy Bruschi (2:01 PM)
Welcome everybody to this week's chat. Pats are in London this week versus the Bucs. Let's talk football.
Michael (DeWitt, MI)
Does last weeks win mean that the running game is finally working for the Pats?
Tedy Bruschi (2:02 PM)
Mike, It's a start. But Tennessee is an overall bad team. The Pats did exactly what they should have done versus a terrible defense. Let's see if they can build on that and keep it going this week.
Evan (Boston)
With Edelman out how do you think they fill the role now and for the rest of the year. My take is this week you will see more two double tight Watson, Baker sets as well as more some two back sets with Faulk and Maroney both capable recievers in space. At the end of the season I see Tate or Nunn seizing the roll. What do you think?
Tedy Bruschi (2:03 PM)
I like your take Evan. Carolina rushed for over 250 yards last week versus the Bucs defense. With the release of Galloway and the injury of Edelman, just to get out of London with a win would be positive. Then they would have a bye week to settle in on who their next third receiver would be. I'm like you, run the bal.
Jerry (Atlanta)
Hi Tedy, would u attribute Adalius Thomas lack of big play to him being played outta position by BB or is this on Thomas himself?
Tedy Bruschi (2:05 PM)
The only difference in his role this year is he's been asked to cover some more. However, in regular defensive situations in first and second down, he's had plenty of opportunities to make big plays. I don't think the inactivation is a performance issue. I think there could be other problems that we don't know about right now.
Ken (Brooklyn)
Does tampa have any dangerous players on offense?
Tedy Bruschi (2:05 PM)
Kellen Winslow. He's had sort of a rebirth in Tampa. When I watch him on film, he's extremely athletic and makes spectacular plays. I think the Pats should treat him like they did Tony Gonzalez when they played Atlanta. I think he's that good.
Jason (Tampa)
How much of a beatdown do u see your Pats putting on the Bucs Sunday?
Tedy Bruschi (2:06 PM)
Big beatdown. I think they should have tremendous success running the ball. And even with the Edelman injury, they will attempt to light up the scoreboard through the air. They want to feel good about themselves going into the bye.
Otto (CA)
I have nothing to ask. I just want to say you got the best head of hair on TV. I'm jealous.
Tedy Bruschi (2:07 PM)
Thanks Otto. I was blessed with good genes from my mother and father.
Nick (GA)
do you think Jerod Mayo is going to be a force in the league in the next few years?
Tedy Bruschi (2:08 PM)
I absolutely think so. He was defensive rookie of the year last year. Once he starts making big, game changing plays, he'll start to get that Pro Bowl recognition.
Chris (Huntington Beach)
Yo Tedy...what did you think of Maroney's production last week in the snow? It seemed like he finally found some good legs.
Tedy Bruschi (2:08 PM)
I thought it's about time. I hope he takes advantage of his starting opportunity now and literally runs with it.
Bryce (Fargo)
Tedy will Adalius Thomas and Belichick hash this thing out before the end of the season or is Thomas getting ready to pack his bags?
Tedy Bruschi (2:09 PM)
I don't think they'll cut ties with Adalius. They still need him. But obviously Bill felt that Adalius needed a wakeup call.
mark (Miami)
Hey Tedy. Do you think New England takes the division this year
Tedy Bruschi (2:10 PM)
Three weeks ago, I might have thought no. But after seeing the Jets collapse the last three weeks, it doesn't look like they have staying power. I think the Pats win this division, but it won't be settled until December.
Al (California)
Hi Tedy, I can't even go to a high school football game without wishing I were still out there, and I was a TERRIBLE player. So I wonder how it must feel for you to watch from the sidelines.
Tedy Bruschi (2:11 PM)
It's a life adjustment Al. It's a true life adjustment. But you know, just like I do, football doesn't last forever. I'm lucky that I still get to talk football with all of you during my chats.
Harold (NY)
hi Tedy, were you surprise with the release of Galloway this week? and do you believe that brady is back to form?
Tedy Bruschi (2:12 PM)
I'm not surprised they released Galloway. He just wasn't the answer for the third receiver spot. I'm never surprised by what Tom Brady is able to accomplished. He's the fiercest competitor I've ever played with.
Russ (CT)
tedy, you think the pats will have a better defense for miami than they had for denver?
Tedy Bruschi (2:13 PM)
I think so. With Denver, they realized what not to do with that Wildcat formation. I trust that they'll make the adjustments and fix it before they face the Miami Dolphins Wildcat.
Mike (Chicago)
Tedy, who are some of your favorite players to watch? Mostly defenders I'd assume.
Tedy Bruschi (2:14 PM)
I do have favorite defenders like Troy Polamalu, Darren Sharper, Jared Allen. I'm a fan of the young LB Brian Cushing. Offensively, how can you not love to watch Adrian Peterson play? Maurice Jones-Drew. Chicago has an exciting young WR in Johnny Knox. And TE Kellen Winslow always does something to catch my eye.
Tedy Bruschi (2:15 PM)
That's a pretty good list. Good question Mike.
Brandon (Columbus)
Do you think Maroney will get the majority of the carries in New England? How do you think he would fare in a feature back role?
Tedy Bruschi (2:16 PM)
He will be the feature back and he will get the bulk of the carries. But BenJarvus Green-Ellis should get a number of carries to complement Maroney. Don't forget about Kevin Faulk.
Jody (South Dakota)
Hi TedyI think the lost at Denver really woke New England up since they played so well last week, I don't see them letting up-what ya think?
Tedy Bruschi (2:17 PM)
I don't see them letting up at all. The only factor you can think about is the travel. Will London be a distraction? There are a lot of young players on that team. Let's see how they deal with it. But I think it's safe to assume that coach Belichick wants a decisive victory going into the bye.
Steve (Austin, TX)
Do you think the Dolphins will upset the Saints this week?
Tedy Bruschi (2:18 PM)
I think about the way they were able to neutralize the Indianapolis Colts with their wildcat formation and a part of me says yes. But once the Saints get ahead, which I think they will, that Dolphin wildcat will be neutralized, because it takes too much time off the clock.
Murph (New Orleans)
What do you think of the contract extension they gave to Tully? Do you think they were overly impressed with his play this year?
Tedy Bruschi (2:19 PM)
Yes. Tully's had a great year. He's been able to get to the QB more than I think a lot of people anticipated.
Bill (ND)
Do you think Seau can hold up and make an impact for another year?
Tedy Bruschi (2:20 PM)
I wouldn't doubt Junior in anything he did. Did you see him get run over by that bull?
JB McCulloch (Kentucky)
Hey I have Cadillac Williams on my fantasy team. Should i play him against the Patriots?
Tedy Bruschi (2:21 PM)
Hmmmm. Good question JB. I would say no. There is a possibility that the Patriots will get way ahead in this game and the Bucs will utilize the pass to catch up.
Ryan Biery (Chester, New Jersey)
Personally, I fell that it was wrong for the Patriots to run the score up on the Titans... what are your thoughts?
Tedy Bruschi (2:23 PM)
I would have thought they were running up the score, if the Titans were attempting to stop them. But it didn't matter what they did, everything worked. The defense gets paid to stop offenses, if they can't do it, they deserve to get 60 put up on them every week.
Brett (New Hampshire)
I love what Leigh Bodden has done for the cornerback spot this year, and the defense as a whole seems to be improving. Do you think this team's defense is underrated as a whole?
Tedy Bruschi (2:24 PM)
I think they are. In the defensive backfield they also have a very good safety tandem of Merriweather and McGowan. All that's missing from that defense is that big play, an INT for a TD or that turnover that turns into a score.
Brian (Enfield)
Tom Brady recently said in a radio interview that his most feared opponent is Dwight Freeney, who was you most feared opposing player and why?
Tedy Bruschi (2:25 PM)
Let's go with the Colts and Peyton Manning. There were games where we held him to three points and there were games where we couldn't stop anything that he did.
John (ME)
Tedy, Only 2 Te's and 2 real wr's available do you see a problem with the pats formations?
Tedy Bruschi (2:26 PM)
I still think the coaches will come up with a gameplan formation that they major in, even if they have to activate a young receiver to achieve them. With the injury problems on the receiver front, I think the running game will have to be utilized.
John (ME)
Tedy, do you think pierre woods is good enough to replace Adalius? it doesn't seem like he makes any plays even though his is on the field alot?
Tedy Bruschi (2:27 PM)
Pierre is a good young player who has a ton of upside. But right now much progress needs to be made for him to be on the same level as Adalius Thomas.
Andrew (Maine)
Having played the game, how does the loss of Kris Jenkins impact the Jets defensively moving forward? Is this as big of a loss as it gets for them?
Tedy Bruschi (2:28 PM)
Yes. It's a huge loss. Look for teams to attack the middle of that defense more.
Bruce William (Chicago)
What's it like preparing to be an analyst compared to a football game?
Tedy Bruschi (2:29 PM)
Instead of watching one opponent all week, I watch every play of every game.
Scott (Dover NH)
Hi Tedy,Do you think that the fact Tom Brady went to college in such a tough weather school as Michigan, it has made him one of the greatest bad weather QB of all time?
Tedy Bruschi (2:30 PM)
I don't think so. Kerry Collins went to Penn State, didn't he?
TOM (OHIO)
TED WHO WILL COVER DALLAS CLARK FOR THE PATS WHEN THEY PLAY
Tedy Bruschi (2:31 PM)
I think it will be Merriweather or McGowan, but getting help from other players in the defensive backfield.
Tedy Bruschi (2:31 PM)
Once again great questions this week everyone. I look forward to this every week. We'll see you again next week.
