Buzzmaster (10:00 AM)
Goooooooooood morning!
Neal (Philly)
Morning Buzz. Matsui is Pedro's daddy.
Ryan (Bogalusa)
Gd mrng, what a great night for sports, GO YANKEES!!!!!!!
Internet Tough Guy (Cyberspace)
Pipe down, Buzzard. Brett Rogers is a pansy. I could kick the crap outta that guy.
Blue Oyster Cult (in the studio)
Oh no, they say he's got to go...go, go, Godzilla!
David (Ottawa)
I don't know whats worse, having to see NYC parades all day or knowing that I have to watch my bosses daughter all day.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Good morning Buzz Nation. Congratulations to the greatest team and greatest fans in baseball.
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
Starting today's MB with Beastie Boys.
Matt (Portland, ME)
Good Morning Buzz
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Headline that should have appeared in the Philly Inquirer: "Godzilla Destroys Philadelphia."
Eric (Chicago)
Trust Pedro? Not me and I still don't trust him today...but what does it really matter anymore? NADA!
Marc (Charlotte)
After a two day reprieve that involved a day of golf and a day in Chapel Hill, I'm back. I'm sure I didn't miss much.
Alex Rodriguez (New York City)
I can't wait for game 7!
SteveFitz (Cicero, IL)
I can't watch post game world series celebrations. So I just turn the TV off when it's over, you know, being a Cubs fan and all.
Clay (Charlotte)
Okay, congrats to the Yankees, now for the 95% of the country that aren't Yankees fans, can we not mention it again?
Josh (Lincoln, NE)
My little dentist's bib looked like a prop from a slasher movie after yesterday's appointment. Not a fun time.
Scott Boras (LA)
I totally forgot to try to steal the spotlight last night...
Reggie (Boston)
Let me start out by saying congrats to the Yankees. Had some bumps here and there but clearly the class of the league this season.
Steve (NJ)
This just in: one of the bridesmaids' grandfather has died, funeral Friday morning. We are at DEFCON 2, people. Know your stations.
Buzzmaster (10:04 AM)
Wow. That's turrible.
Marc (Charlotte)
Buzz, I'm having a good week. Can you try to not screw it up with this chat?
Buzzmaster (10:04 AM)
I take that as a challenge. Booooooooooooooo.
Kellog's (Battle Creek, Michigan)
Because DJ Gallo was seen eating a Toaster Strudel, Pop Tarts will no longer sponsor the Morning Buzz.
Josh (Lincoln, NE)
Don't worry SteveFitz, you'll never have to watch a Cubs Series celebration.
SteveFitz (Cicero, IL)
Well played J.B.
Nate (Madison)
Brian boo'd the MB HOF yesterday.
Matt (Portland, ME)
Mmm Dunkin Donuts
Greg (Ellicott City)
Let me start out by saying Boo Rastall.
stephanie (cincy)
I am not very happy the yankees won, but I seriously believe the Reds will challenge for the NL pennant next year.
Brandon Spikes (Gainesville)
Buzz I was gonna chat, but I don't want to be a distraction.
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
According to the local paper, an Ohio man dressed up as a breathalyzer test for Halloween and got arrested driving home Saturday night from the party for DUI.
Steve (Dallas, TX)
Buzz you will like since you're fat. Went to a BBQ joint for dinner last night. The guy next to me was pushing 4 bills, and shoveling ribs down his gullet, with sauce all over his face and shirt. Look down at his shirt and it is for Planet Fitness. I couldn't help but laugh.
Marc (Charlotte)
The UNC Basketball Museum is a must for any Tar Heel fan. I spent 2 hours walking through it yesterday and could have stayed longer.
Ryan Howard (via mobile)
I finally hit a home run! I'm back on track! Wait, you mean it's over? Damn.
Josh (Lincoln, NE)
I'd call stephanie delusional, but I've bled enough in the last two days.
Neal (Philly)
stephanie must have gotten a supply from Ryan to think the Reds are anywhere near contending. (Please don't stab me)
Christian (High Point, NC)
Are we still talking baseball? The season's over people!
Brian (Madison, WI)
I'm not sure how I feel about making the MB HOF and MB Hall of Infamy in the same month.
Dave (vt)
Buzz why cant i check the UFL scores on espn yet?
Buzzmaster (10:07 AM)
You can. Now go find them.
Matt (IN)
Good morning everyone. That Kate Hudson is one hell of a good luck charm.
Steve (NJ)
Fiancee forgot to record V for me; ABC isn't putting it online until Saturday. WHY ABC? WHY???
Clay (Charlotte)
Well obviously, any museum dedicated to something that you are fan of would be a must see.
Neal (Philly)
There's a shock. Brian doesn't know what to think. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
skrap (clevland oh)
im sick of the yankees buyin championships. but it wont stop so i gotta watch every good player the indians have go to ny or boston.
Buzzmaster (10:08 AM)
How about you get mad that your team won't pay its players?
Robbi (Clinton,Ky)
Speaking of deaths, my daughter called last night to say that her boyfriends grandmother had died of swine flu. She had underlying illness though.
Brian (Madison, WI)
Ken Rosenthal: Jorge how do you think Andy Pettitte managed to pitch so well on only 3 days rest?Jorge: Well Ken you know those steroids do amazing work to help your body heal better.Ken: I thought players were done using those.Jorge: Well yeah the ones they test for now are the ones that people used 10 years ago.
JB (TX)
UNC basketball museum? You know what, I'm not even going there this morning...
Josh (Lincoln, NE)
I think MB HOF and HOI kinda go hand in hand.
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
Every MLB owner is rich. Every MLB owner can afford to "buy" a World Series win. I'd be more pissed that my owner DIDN'T do that.
Steve (NJ)
You mean the Indians who traded CC to Milwaukee for parts last year? Or the Indians who traded Cliff Lee and Ben Fransisco to Philly for parts? Or the Indians who traded V-Mart to Boston for a piece of silly string and a bag of peanuts?
SteveFitz (Cicero, IL)
Interesting ESPN cover page. Everyone's gravitating to A-Rod in the photot while Jeter's lost in the shuffle. Just trying to stir the pot somehow.
Matt (Portland, ME)
New Office tonight?
Dave (vt)
Too lazy to find it, link me please.
Buzzmaster (10:11 AM)
To lazy to get the link, get it yourself.
Grady Sizemore (Cleveland)
I wish the Indians would trade me...
Ben (Tempe, AZ)
I don't like the fact that teams can spend money to get the players to "buy a championship" but if the Brewers had enough money to do so I would gladly support them spending 200 mil a year
Ryan (San Diego)
Buzz, cmon. Nobody has the market backing of New York and can afford to drop 300 million in an offseason. That is a flawed argument
Buzzmaster (10:12 AM)
No, but teams get a lot of money in revenue sharing dollars. Some teams put it into the teams and others put it into their pockets.
mitchel (houston)
With A Rod and Pettite being clients of mine, I feel a like I had a great contribution to this championship and would like a ring please.
Jordan (Peoria)
Get Mike one or he will become angry and throw a couch out the window
Steve (Dallas, TX)
I have heard that Buzz. The Yankees and Red Sox actually have the lowest profit numbers every year while the Nationals and Marlins have the highest.
SteveFitz (Cicero, IL)
It's kind of interesting to hear all these whiners whine about the Yankees "buying a championship" all while bashing them the last 10 years saying "buying a championship" doesn't work.
John (Kentucky)
That's 300 million over like 8 years though.
mitchel (houston)
Good point Buzz, I love putting money in my pockets.
Eric (Chicago)
The Cubs try and buy players all the time, Milton "cough" Bradley, and look where it gets them every year! Nowhere!
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Uh oh, better make a phone call. I think we're going to need a new supply of Hateorade for the chat today, extra expensive.
Roger Clemens (Still in denial)
Andy misremembered!
skrap (cleveland)
the pirates orioles and royals i would say should be ashamed to be fans. those owners are lining the pockets
David (Ottawa)
I don't see how you can argue that anyone could out-bid the Sox or Yanks. that's why baseball needs a hard salary cap.
Matt (via Albany)
Most owners couldn't instantly have a Yankees/Red Sox/Mets size payroll, but if you increase the payroll and improve the product on the field, more people will show up and increase the revenue
Buzzmaster (10:16 AM)
Sure, you can't go from a $12 million payroll to a $112 million payroll in one season, but you can get it up there. And then there are teams like the Padres who cut payroll because the owner wanted to limit his total worth for his divorce proceedings. What a joke.
Neal (Philly)
At least Mike's not from West Virginia. Otherwise he'd set it on fire first.
Scott (Brewtown)
Good morning. Late again. My 19.5k salary is going to have to go up to 19.8 if I am going to have to work this hard.
Bob (Lowell)
How about Michael for MVD.
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
My arguments on the merits of "buying a championship" changed when the Tigers moved into the upper echelon of payroll. Now I realize how difficult it still is to form a championship team. Spending money = easy. Spending money WISELY = very difficult.
Scott (Brewtown)
The way to solve this problem is to share revenue, however also you need a salary cap....both a maximum cap AND a minimum so as to prevent the lining of pockets.
Rafael Palmeiro (Court Room)
*waving index finger* "I did not knowingly take steroids because I didn't ask what they were!"
Neal (Philly)
And I thought I'd be the most bitter chatter today. I must be good at hiding my emotions.
Steve (NJ)
Who wants to talk about which NCAA Football conference is better? (raises hand)
Hayden (Logan, Utah)
so, way too much sports today, wheres the party at this weekend?
Steve (NJ)
Tom, please call my fiancee and explain your 'spending money wisely' theory to her.
Louis (Fredericton, NB)
I get the market discrepancy, but what are the Yanks supposed to do? Not spend their money when they want to because it will look bad?
mitchel (houston)
If they don't send me a ring, I will personally empty out my stash of juice into the glutes of every Houston Astro on the payroll in order to get one!!!
Greg (Ellicott City)
Note to self, dont get divorced when I own a sports team.
David (Ottawa)
Think about this, no one could even talk to a guy like Dice K without paying 50-70 million to begin with, and then you have to pay him his salary! I don't think the likes of the Royals, Padres or anyone else could afford that, revenue sharing or not.
Buzzmaster (10:19 AM)
That's one player.
John (Lexington, KY)
It's about spending your money wisely. Most teams have enough money to be able to afford enough good players to win a championship. They just have less margin for error
Bob (Lowell)
Buzz, wouldn't spending the money actually lower your worth?
Buzzmaster (10:19 AM)
No idea. All I know is he told the team to cut the payroll because he was getting a divorce.
Brandon (Albany)
Note to self.....if I own a sports team never get married
Steve (NJ)
Personally, I can't understand how anyone can argue that investing in your own business is a bad thing. You want to increase value, you improve the product. It's not even a complicated theory. I'd still vote for a salary cap, though; ticket prices are ridiculous.
Frank McCourt (LA)
Buzz, you're fired!
Ryan (San Diego)
The Padres don't have the revenue backing to put it over 100 million. They don't have a tv contract anywhere near the size of other markets, attendance is way down, even when they were winning division titles. They are forced to trade their best players before free agency because they cannot afford to take on a yankee size contract
Matthew McConaughey (Austin)
Alright, alright, alright -- Did anyone mention my B-Day in the chat yesterday? I'm officially a man.
Greg (Ellicott City)
Note to self, get a sports team...
SteveFitz (Cicero, IL)
Good one Buzz about the Padres. With the Dodgers owners mess, it might be time to invade the Dodgers roster and take advantage of a bad situation out there. LIke a garage sale. Matt Kemp anyone?
Nate (Madison)
Buzz, yes the Brewers payroll has gone up slightly. They did offer CC like $100million but had he taken that or more they would have seriously handicapped any chance of signing their other players.
Neal (Philly)
Are we actually going to discuss economics in here?
Dean (Vermont)
Bad news: the Yankees won. Good news: we can get back to loathing those damn Yankees...
Matt (Portland, ME)
Remember the Braves still playing to half empty parks during their streak.
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
Ticket prices are ridiculous in sports that have salary caps, too, Steve. If you think that the Yankees would pass savings on to ticket purchasers, I'd like some of what you're smoking.
Dave (vt)
Baseball is over, lets move on to something more exciting.
SteveFitz (Cicero, IL)
Can we talk March Madness in November?
Rich Rodriguez (Ann Arbor)
People who discuss economics need to get lives. This is not Econ 101, people. Get back out on the practice field.
Clinton (Indianapolis)
Okay, caught up on the MB after my meeting. There was a lot of sports in there, wasn't there? And stephanie, as long as Dusty Baker is managing the Reds, they're not getting anywhere near the top of the NL.
Greg (Ellicott City)
Its almost the July 4th. Can we talk about that?
John (Lexington, KY)
That's because Braves fans are stupid. They wouldn't buy division series tickets because they expected to get to the World Series
Christian (High Point, NC)
There's a huge difference between investing $40 million in a new startup technology division and investing $40 million in one player. Even if the startup fails, you can usually recover some of your investment (even if just through financial shenanigans). If the player, on the other hand, ends up playing only 40 games and bats .210 during those games, that money is gone.
Marc (Charlotte)
Buzz, ONB.
Buzzmaster (10:24 AM)
Let's do it.....
Oscar (Scranton, PA)
Don't you mean Koi Story?
Michael Scott (Scranton, PA)
I can name Pixar movies too - Toy Story!
jay (new orleans)
what is the record for consecutive wins for a D1 NCAA quarterback?
Quentin (Green Bay)
First, Favre and the Vikings beat the Pack at Lambeau. Then, the Bucks blow a huge lead to the Bulls. Next, the Yankees are going to win the World Series (the game wasn't over when I posted this, but it was 7-3). Finally, Buzz is STILL fat. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
Doug (California)
*Groan* Yankee's win again. Baseball sucks.
Steve (NJ)
This is freakin' sweet! GO YANKS! WORLD CHAMPS!!!!! Thank you for the great series, Philadelphia; you were very worthy opponents.
paul Frano (Denver)
Bobby Valentine before the world series started said that matsui would be the deciding factor i guess he was right
Dave MacLaughlin (Victoria British Columbia Canada)
Who do I contact about an idea for programming?
patrick nelson (memphis TN)
what do you think about the broncos will hold out the season and yalls show is awsome
Eric Myers (Victoria, Minnesota)
All I want to say is I'm glad AIG has now won a world series. Did I say AIG? Oh, I'm sorry-considering how much money they needed for a stadium, and then giving enormous handouts to employees, I though they were the same group-my bad!
Johny Boy (USA)
The Yankees bought the World Series!!!
Dusty (Ohio)
As much as you guys want to talk about the World Series. We are losing interest in baseball when the yankees are in it. Bring on a salary cap and will see how they do..............Lets get back to when its great to find that player in a draft that helps a team instead of buying all the big dogs.
Andrew (PA)
Well the yanks won because of a guy playing a made up position...the DH
Donovan Taylor (Pikeville, Kentucky)
Ok, since baseball is over and the Yankees have number 27 can i add just one thing since college basketball is coming up everytime that the Kentucky Wildcats have won a national championship the Yankees were world series champs.. so watch out Kentucky reloaded and ready for their 8th national tittle :)
Rodney Wilcox (Etowah, Tn.)
How in the world can oregon be ranked in front of LSU when LSU has only been beaten by No. 1 ranked Florida and Oregon's only lose was to No. 5 ranked boise st. and there is no doubt that LSU has a tougher schedule being in the SEC.
Brad (Dallas)
Tim, love the blog and you were dead on with your predictions last week, but you may want to take another look at Kansas vs K-State. I bet Reesing won't take his benching sitting down (no pun intended) and comes out on FIRE. My prediction: Kansas wins a fairly close one after Reesing throws 4 TD passes. Thoughts?
Buzzmaster (10:25 AM)
And that's it.....
Bob (Lowell)
Let's discuss nuclear physics instead.
stephanie (cincy)
Clinton, that was not me. I hate baseball, Reds included. Fake steph should know that by now
Eric (Chicago)
So if we want to talk about something else, Sears ran their Christmas/Holiday commercial yesterday to get started for buying in 2010. What happened to Christmas in 2009?
Buzzmaster (10:26 AM)
The pentaverate decided to cancel it this year.
Brandon (Albany)
Only 11 months until Columbus Day...can we talk about that?
John (Lexington, KY)
Seriously, a salary cap is only going to make the owners richer. It will have no effect on the price to go to games.
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
The Red Wings (essentially the Yankees of the NHL) didn't lower ticket prices when a salary cap was installed, and that was AFTER a lockout that turned off a lot of hockey fans.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Damn Colonel Sanders
jill (norman)
Reesing may have fallen down and can't get up.
Marc (Charlotte)
Love the delusional UK fans. They should be more concerned about how soon they have to vacate wins than when they are going to win a title.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Lots of Hateorade spilled in the ONB too I see.
Ryan (San Diego)
Baseball needs a salary cap. The owners want it, the players don't...it's a longshot to get put in
Buzzmaster (10:27 AM)
It took 10 years to get steroid testing into the CBA. It might take 100 years to get a salary cap in.
Robbi (Clinton,Ky)
My goodness where are all the funny people today?
Clinton (Indianapolis)
HEAD! PAPER! NOW!
Steve (NJ)
Who replaced the Colonel in the Pentaverate, anyway? Scott Boras?
Steve (Dallas, TX)
Has anyone tried that burrito from Taco Bell that came out a couple months ago. It is the one with Tator Tots, Bacon and Nacho Cheese in it? Just curious if it was any good.
Steve (NJ)
So...um...Danica Patrick in NASCAR? Yawn.
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
I hate the Colonel with his wee beady eyes!
Ryan (San Diego)
Agree with the prices not going down in baseball with a salary cap. Look at the NFL, that is probably the best model to go off of and those prices go up every year.
Clinton (Indianapolis)
And she's still going to run Indycar full time, too. I smell a Dario Franchitti-sized fail coming up. I hope she proves me wrong, though.
Eric (Chicago)
Scott Boras's next client in Colonel Sanders...he wants more money...and chicken!
Hulio (Raleigh,NC)
Drew Brees is clearly the MVP IF the season ended today
Robbi (Clinton,Ky)
Seriously, do you see prices going down on anything?
Buzzmaster (10:30 AM)
We can't even get gas prices to go down for very long. There's no way an NFL ticket price goes down. Heck, the Yankees thought they were doing fans a favor by cutting tickets down from $2500 to $1500 or whatever it was.
Jeremy (Boston)
Baseball won't have a salary cap. Ratings up. Attendance up. Baseball is probably better off, for ratings reasons, with the the team everyone hates having the advantage....at least than other sports who it doesn't matter who is good as much.
Brian (Madison, WI)
Timeout! Sasha Vujacic is dating Maria Sharapova?!?!!
Buzzmaster (10:31 AM)
Doesn't your life really suck now?
Dave (Tampa)
I don't hate the Yankees. As a fan, I appreciate what their ownership goes through to try to field a winner. Their fans are another story...
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
Economics chat > Rastall > NASCAR chat.
Steve (NJ)
Here's a thought: with every losing season, you have to lower ticket prices 2%, and increase player salaries 2%. That'll light a fire under the Pirates' bums.
Buzzmaster (10:32 AM)
And they'll be out of business in about 3 years.
Buzzmaster (10:32 AM)
How about if you don't win at least 63 games or more (or if you lose 100 or more) you have to sell your team and fire the entire management team and get some folks in there who actually know what the heck they're doing.
Matt (Portland, ME)
Our lives all suck. Why else are we here?
mitchel (houston)
Sharapova is .....overrated! (clap....clap.........clap clap clap)
Jason (Chicago)
According to Forbes, richest owners in baseball. 1)Twins 2) Braves 3)Tigers 4) Rangers........
Clinton (Indianapolis)
It's not the Yankees I hate, it's the lack of a cap. You know, if you can buy all the good players, go for it. It's not their fault they know how the system works.
Ryan (San Diego)
Pirates would just declare bankruptcy in about 2 seconds
Brandon (Albany)
Just goes to show you...that you dont need to be good at sports to get a good looking girlfriend
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
I chose "being a millionaire" over "dating Maria Sharapova" in the Vujacic poll. That's the benefit of having an awesome wife and great kids already.
Buzzmaster (10:34 AM)
I agree with what Beadle said about this poll on the SN TV show yesterday. If you're a millionaire you can get women much better than Sharapova.
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
Ilitch is rich off all those $5 dollar hot 'n ready pizzas.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Love the idea, Buzz. You should submit it to Bud Selig with a petition. I'd sign.
Clay (Charlotte)
Buzz, can we put that rule into the NFL so the Raiders can go somewhere?
mitchel (houston)
Steve if that were the case the Pirates would be paying their fans ten bucks to attend a game.
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
Of course, if Sharapova can cook, though . . .
Jeremy (Boston)
Everyone knows Tom is single right? Makes all that up. Especially about the lunches.
Buzzmaster (10:36 AM)
He's really not a lawyer. He's actually unemployed. No wife, no kids. Possibly lives in his stepmom's basement. He has bologna and cheese sandwiches every day, not "delicious apple glazed ham with twice baked potato leftovers made by my wife. Outstanding work!"
Robbi (Clinton,Ky)
Look in the mirror and look at your bank account. That's why you are with who you are.
Eric (Chicago)
Buzz, I'll sign it too!
Marc (Charlotte)
True Buzz, but she also has money, so you know she isn't in it just for the cash. Lot of Gold Digggers out there.
Steve (NJ)
Post of the Day to Jeremy (Boston)
Robbi (Clinton,Ky)
I think Tom just copies the labels off of gourmet TV dinners.
SteveFitz (Cicero, IL)
I have a better idea. Instead of a cap, how about we scrap guaranteed contracts in baseball? I know, I know, good luck with that, but at least players can still get as much as they want and owners can still spend as much as they want, but teams have a chance to get out of Zito, Bradley, Wells, Soriano and Hampton type contracts.
Clinton (Indianapolis)
Oh, are we going meta in the MB? Looks like I picked the wrong morning to misplace my helmet.
Eric (Chicago)
Funny how Carl Pohlad, Twins owner, says that they are getting ready to move into a new ballpark, yet can't re-sign Mauer to a long term deal (yet), unless he opts for FA, then the Yankees can let Posada go and have Mauer hitting 74 home runs a year in the new Yankee Stadium...but Pohlad doesn't like to spend money...reminds me of the old Blackhawks owner!
mitchel (houston)
Buzz I'm heading to Denver tomorrow to see the Broncos dismantle the champs on Monday night. Jealous?
Buzzmaster (10:37 AM)
Nope, Mike.
Nate (Madison)
So a woman in Nashville got arrested because she kept calling 911 because her boyfriend wouldn't marry her? Ummm ok...women are crazy.
Jeremy (Boston)
I agree buzz....cause if his "wife's" cooking was so good......there wouldn't be leftovers all the time....
John (Lexington, KY)
With a salary cap, there is a minimum expenditure. So are we gonna force the Marlins to adopt a new payroll strategy? Force them to spend money they dont have?
Louis (Fredericton, NB)
Naah, no way Tom is making up the lunches. He got something different every day, he would run out of ideas in a month.
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
Okay, now that's hilarious, Buzz. You get a hearty Outstanding work!
Ryan (San Diego)
Michael, you are choosing to go to Denver. That is crazy in itself and nobody is jealous
Clinton (Indianapolis)
Don't forget the woman who called 911 because the local McDonald's was out of chicken nuggets. Just crazy.
Josh (Lincoln, NE)
I have a better idea, don't sign people to 8 year $100MM contracts and you won't have to worry about the fact that it's guaranteed.
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
This is great stuff. Love all the Tom (West Bloomfield, MI) bashing. Thanks for the hearty laughs, all.
jill (norman)
Yeah, what wife wants to spend all that time cooking for Tom anyway. He's not here, is he?
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
This chat needs some Brett Favre talk to really tick off Wisconsin.
Louis (Fredericton, NB)
Money they don't have? Marlins receive more money from revenue sharing that they spend on players! Being a expos fan, I am not trusting Jeffrey Loria, ever
Dave (Tampa)
Baseball does have minimums in place for players, just not for overall payroll.
Nate (Madison)
So Colbert is sponsering our country's speedskating team? Ummm if you are representing your country, doesn't that usually mean all expenses are already paid especially when it's just right across the border?
Buzzmaster (10:41 AM)
Usually, but the Olympic Committee is having a funding problem and lots of the teams, especially the lesser known ones are being effected.
mitchel (houston)
Hahahahaha! Man if my girlfriend called 911 every time I didn't agree to marry her, a lot of people in dire need of real help would get nothing but a lot of busy signals!
Neal (Philly)
The Marlins have a huge TV audience. That's where all the money comes from.
David (Ottawa)
I left for a while and now I don't know what we are talking about so I'll just say this: Brett Favre is better in Minnesota then he was in GB.
Eric (Chicago)
Packers suck...that ticks off Wisconsin anyways!
Greg (Ellicott City)
Boo Tom and Boo Rastall.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Maybe Tom and his wife make intelligent meal choices so that there are deliberate leftovers to save money on meals?
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Denver in the summertime...great. Denver in November...you can have it.
Josh (Lincoln, NE)
Salary caps haven't helped keep the Lions from sucking, now have they?
Buzzmaster (10:42 AM)
Perfect example of a needed, forced owner/management purge.
Steve (NJ)
Oh stop, Mike. You don't have a girlfriend; it's a 'roid hallucination
Dave (Tampa)
The Marlins DID have that one fan that used to come around.
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
If Colbert wanted to sponsor my team, I'd let him. That would be awesomesauce.
Louis (Fredericton, NB)
The sponsorship money is for all the season, the trips to europe and all the traning, the coaches, etc...
Robbi (Clinton,Ky)
I wonder what the percentage of drunks is in Wisconsin.
Brian (Madison, WI)
No Brett Favre talk please. We've taken a big enough beating already this season.
Buzzmaster (10:43 AM)
Ahhhhh, so you can dish it out, but not take it. Duly noted.
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
And, for the record, Christian is correct. My wife cooks extra food for dinners so I don't have to spend money on lunches the next day.
Richie Fayman (Glendale Hts, IL)
Buzz, it's an honor and a privilege, do yous thinks da Bears should use da tree wide receiver set dis weekend? I'll stop typing and look for my answers.
Buzzmaster (10:44 AM)
Richie, please never type like that again.
David (Ottawa)
the answer to the poll question is so easy: Play for the Lakers....that way you get all three. I'm patting myself on the back for that quick thinking.
Scott (Brewtown)
Robbi, the easier census to take would be number of sober people in Wisconsin.
Jeremy (Boston)
Josh, but that is a team run bad. At least it is being run bad on an even playing field. What do you think happens if revenue sharing in the NFL goes away, and Dallas is able to load up every year with no consequences...
Lewis Black (Wisconsin)
To the people of Wisconsin: Remember this, you are NOT alchoholics. You--and my hat is off--are professionals.
Ryan (San Diego)
Please don't reference the Lions, Browns or Raiders in terms of salary cap arguments. That is all a fault of poor decisions at the top
Louis (Fredericton, NB)
If you stop typing now, the answers will come somedays... but you nust never type again
Zack (Louisville, KY)
Since I'm not gonna get the attention I deserve, I'm gonna go do work.
Brett Favre (Minnesota)
Now this chat is getting good. I'm having so much fun, I feel like a kid in here.
Nate (Madison)
Brian, be the bigger man. Let people try to talk about Favre, just ignore it. I still believe Rodgers is the better QB, Favre just has a better line and RB which makes for a big advantage.
Brian (Madison, WI)
Oh I can take it, but the way Brett has played in purple it's been like a kick to the junk, then a couple swift kicks to the ribs, and then an elbow drop to the back of the head for good measure. If they were to win the Super Bowl that would be the giant sword through the mid-section.
Buzzmaster (10:46 AM)
Why? I seriously do not get this whole Brett Favre-Green Bay thing. He once played there. He no longer does. You have an awesome, much, much younger QB. Who cares?
jill (norman)
I think Farve is simple-mimded. A good QB, but simple-minded.
Neal (Philly)
Brian, even you could make some plays behind the Vikings offensive line. Of course you would have to decide who to throw or hand off to.
Nate (Madison)
I just think Brian is being a creepy drama queen.
Josh (Lincoln, NE)
Count me in for Rodgers over Favre. With that line, he's playing awesome.
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
The Lions are bad because of poor draft decisions, not because of poor free agent signings . . . Although the Az Hakim signing was pretty darned bad.
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
Agreed, Buzz. I've never understood the rancor from Wisconsin about Favre.
Jeremy (Boston)
Brian....If you had favre, you'd have lost Aaron Rodgers in Free Agency. Your better off.
Brett Favre (Minnesota)
Brian, I've heard that a new pair of Wranglers helps to ease the pain.
Brian (Madison, WI)
No joke, as soon as I sent that Brett Favre's Wrangler commercial came on the radio. Shoot me.
Matt (via Albany)
And...there goes the bus in Madison
Ray (Seattle)
The only word Buzz saw in Brian's post was Ribs... you know bc he's fat almost time for lunch.
Greg (Ellicott City)
Buzz, it would be like if Johnny Damon all of a sudden left the RedSox and played for the Yankees. Wait, what?
Robbi (Clinton,Ky)
I think Damon is a worse traitor than Farve.
al (dc)
I woulda felt betrayed if Cal Ripken finished his career with the Yankees
Brian (Madison, WI)
Buzz apparently has never been a fan of a team that had a legend play for them.
Buzzmaster (10:49 AM)
Yes, he played for the Packers. The Packers moved on because he retired. Sure, he's a turd for his waffling on retiring. That I'll agree with. But he's moved on and so have the Packers.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Lunch chat! Day 3 of portobello mushroom sausage with sweet-hot mustard (courtesy of Inglehoffer)
Trent Dilfer (Bristol, Studio D)
One Superbowl victory does not a legend make.
Eric (Chicago)
Remember Kid, Heroes are remembered, but Legends Never Die
Brian (Madison, WI)
It has nothing to do with Brett doing anything to the Packers organization when he left, it doesn't have anything to do with him playing for another team, I cheered for the Jets last year, it's that he is playing for the Viqueens and wearing purple!
Steve (NJ)
Johnny Damon and Babe Ruth...two ex-champion RedSox who won a Series with the Yankees in a new stadium.
Eric (Chicago)
And....Boom Goes The Dynamite...on the Brett Favre talk!
Ryan (San Diego)
It's something you can't explain. I hate Eli Manning a bunch even though he actually made the Chargers better by giving us 3 Pro Bowlers for him and Rivers is still better. But I still hate him with a passion
Christian (High Point, NC)
Buzz, the problem is that Packers fans that are Nate's/Brian's age barely remember the time before Favre. Those of us who remember the Lynn Dickey era are better able to cope.
Nate (Madison)
WHO STARTED THIS FAVRE ISSUE? I'm going to crime them because now Brian won't let it go.
Matt (Portland, ME)
Lunch: Pizza Villa
Jeremy (Boston)
I remember Favre in his glory days. What a QB...that 6 INT game in the playoffs was awesome. As was him blowing the Packs chance for the superbowl against the giants. Just awesome.
jill (norman)
It's one thing that pro players change teams all the time now, but what gets me is that they change the rules to college football all the time and never tell anyone. Even the coaches seem confused at times.
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
Lunch: Ratatouille with baked cheese/meat stuffed ravioli, all made by my wife. Outstanding work!
Fake Buzz (Bristol)
Not true at all, Brian. I've been a fan of Oscar Meyer. He's legen....dary. And he's never left.
Scott (Brewtown)
Lunch: Who cares, I can't compete with Tom.
stephanie (cincy)
I almost called 911 to get me out of my marriage.
Nate (Madison)
Thank you Buzz. Exaxctly, he's the enemy like every other opponent so booooooo him just as much. You can cheer for him again AFTER he retires.........for good.
Matt (Portland, ME)
If a player flat out refused to play for my team, I'd hate him too.
mitchel (houston)
That's ok Ryan. The rest of the country hates Phillip Rivers.
Bus Driver (Madsion)
Nate, if you need me, just give me a call.
Louis (Fredericton, NB)
We're here because we care too much about sports already, so I'm not gonna be the one telling people to get over it
Eric (Chicago)
Ruth didn't leave via free agency to go to NYY, he was sold and eventually saved baseball in the meantime after the Black Sox scandal...very different from Damon.
Brian (Madison, WI)
Lunch: Leftover pizza and some Cheetos.
Marc (Charlotte)
Thanksgiving Potluck tomorrow... Any ideas on what I should bring?
Buzzmaster (10:52 AM)
Yams.
Nate (Madison)
Weird...Brian cheered for two NFL teams last year.
Jeremy (Boston)
Brian cheered for the Jets.....not a stunner....
Buzzmaster (10:53 AM)
Nicely play gentlemen.
fred (omaha)
that is great stuff tom but remember that rats like it too, be careful
Steve (Dallas, TX)
Lunch: Texadelphia Cheesesteak, Waffle Fries and a DP. Maybe a lemon bar if I am still feeling hungry.
Robbi (Clinton,Ky)
Hash brown casserole.
Marc (Charlotte)
I don't like Yams.
Brian (Madison, WI)
I wish Aikman would have elaborated on his comment on Sunday when he said that he wasn't even sure that Brett ever wanted to come back with the Packers in the first place.
Brett Favre (Minnesota)
Lunch: Continuing to have fun and feel like a kid.
Louis (Fredericton, NB)
Leftover beef and veggies stew for lunch. the first leftover I'm happy to eat in a while
Hayden (Logan, Utah)
marc, a bag of doritos always works
Scott (Brewtown)
I like cheese.
Robbi (Clinton,Ky)
Sweet potato pie but not yams.
Neal (Philly)
Steve needs to come to Philly and get a real cheesesteak.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Jeremy: Until Favre the last Packer QB to win them a Super Bowl was Bart Starr. Say what you will but he made the team relevant again.
Jeremy (Boston)
Brian....it's the difference between Damon and Pedro.....Favre could have stayed away from a rival. Pedro made it clear after he signed with the mets that he was never going to sign with the Yanks because he knew his status in Boston.
Buzzmaster (10:55 AM)
Yeah, but if Pedro had signed with the Yankees, he would have another World Series ring right now.
Buzzmaster (10:56 AM)
Plus, it's not like he was a career Red Sox or anything.
Johnstone (Wicker Park)
Missed the chat, just tuned in to find out what Toms wife made him that he's eating for leftovers.
Benedict Arnold (England)
Did someone say traitor?
Hayden (Logan, Utah)
any news on the anti-pie movement? Ive got a petition going...
Scott (Brewtown)
The Lynn Dickey to James lofton/John Jefferson/Paul Coffman era for the Pack was great. Too bad they couldn't stop an old lady from crossing the street.
Brian (Madison, WI)
Well now we know how loyal Buzz is.
Buzzmaster (10:57 AM)
Loyalty as a fan, sure. But if Team A is offering $20 million and Team B is offering $2 million, I'm not supposed to go to Team A because it is my old team's rival? Are you serious?
Jason (Ellicott City, MD)
Buzz, we all know Pedro roided in the late 90s.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Wade Boggs didn't win a ring until he went to the Yankees. Not hearing many people getting on him about that.
Richie Faymen (Glendale Heights, IL)
Lunch: I-talian beefs, sweet potato fries, chocolate shakes. Buzz, what are yous having? I'll stop typing and look for my answer.
Jeremy (Boston)
J.B. Reggie White made them relevant again. And a coach that knew what he was doing.
Hayden (Logan, Utah)
Tom, maybe your wife should write a cookbook, IF you arent full of it
Louis (Fredericton, NB)
Anti pie movement? What do you want ot start next, an anti-fun movement?
Jeremy (Boston)
Heck, I don't even blame Damon for taking the money. It was ALOT of money. But that was his choice. Which is fine. As was Favre's choice....
Matt (via Albany)
I...HUNGER!!!
Greg (Ellicott City)
cake > pie > vegis > dirt > Rastall.
Neal (Philly)
Kettle cooked potato chips rock. Have a great weekend everyone!
Jeremy (Boston)
And Wade Boggs isn't treated the same for doing it. Sorry.
Nate (Madison)
Here, I'll end it. Favre was holding the Packers hostage, so looking out for the long term future they moved on. Favre is very selfish and saw money and a chance to satisfy his own needs by sticking it to the Packers management (while stabbing his fans in the back) so he signed with an archrival. You can't be a true Packers fan and cheer for Favre as well because you can't cheer for a divisional opponent to do well, it's not right. There, done.
Marc (Charlotte)
Did Brian just question someone's loyalty?
jill (norman)
Lunch: Leftover TV dinner--outstanding work!
Christian (High Point, NC)
I still prefer the Majikal year of 1989 to any other Packers season I've witnessed, and includes the Super Bowl title year.
Robbi (Clinton, Ky)
One day left. Bye y'all.
Justin (Rockford, IL)
Sorry but Maria Sharapova is not even that cute, Lunch: Panda Express
Aaron Rowand (SF)
My loyalty comes from my fire and passion
Clinton (Indianapolis)
Lunch: Sandwich, chips, and soda.
Scott (Brewtown)
Have a swell Thursday everybody.
Brian (Madison, WI)
When has an athlete ever had two choices for who to sign with where the two teams were rivals and the difference in salary was that much?
Buzzmaster (11:00 AM)
Clinton, I need your helmet.
Hayden (Logan, Utah)
pie is overrated and served too often!!! whos coming with me!!
Matt (Portland, ME)
Later Buzz.
Buzzmaster (11:01 AM)
We're done here. Thanks for stopping by everyone. We'll do it again tomorrow. Thanks for stopping by everyone. Until later, stay classy SportsNation!
Johnstone (Wicker Park)
Have a good day Buzz, remember that your forks go on the left.
Greg (Ellicott City)
Clinton's helmet is made from leather. It wont do much Buzz.
Matt (via Albany)
End it know, have a good one everyone and stay crazy, BN!
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
Bye, Buzz.
Brett Favre (Minneapolis)
I had to get out of Green Bay! It's a farm town. It's Mayberry compared to Kiln!
Felix Pie (somewhere)
Who's overrated?!?!?!
mitchel (houston)
KYLE ORTON AND HIS NECKBEARD FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
