Scott Van Pelt (1:01 PM)
I'm on time! Sort of. Get at me.
Rick (Chicago)
The commercial w/ Jimmy Rollins is an absolute riot. Who came up with the idea behind that commercial? (Honestly, if I'm ever having a bad day, I watch that on you tube.......and crack up)
Scott Van Pelt (1:03 PM)
The ad agency that has done all of our ads, Wieden and Kennedy. The fun part of the spot is that the screen you are looking on it in the ad had nothing on it. So Jimmy and I went along and made it up. They used the takes they liked the best. Congrats to Jimmy on another gold glove.
Peoria illinois [via mobile]
Could allen iverson be the answer in cleveland?
Scott Van Pelt (1:03 PM)
What's the question?
John (NYC)
Would you rather date someone 10 years older or 10 years younger than you?
Scott Van Pelt (1:04 PM)
I tend to swim in the kiddie pool. And now that I'm an old goat, if I went 10 years older, what's 2 generations removed from Cougar? I'm not interested in the answer. No offense.
John (LA)
Let's say, hypothetically, that you hooked up with your friend's sister on Halloween. Do you bring it up to your friend or just forget about it?
Scott Van Pelt (1:05 PM)
What's the downside to telling your friend this happened? Is his sister 11?
Chad (Las Vegas)
It goes, Cougar, Platypus, Dinosaur.
A (UTAH)
Ryen always says your boring because you play video games at home all the time.... I think Ryen is more boring than you. Agree?
Scott Van Pelt (1:08 PM)
What's the criteria for boring? Get me the criteria and I'll get you an answer...define boring.
Marc (Charlotte)
Better time for a first date: Afternoon or Evening?
Scott Van Pelt (1:09 PM)
Always go lunch first date...if it's a disaster...you're out by happy hour. If it's good go to happy hour together, get hammered, hook up. Maybe breakfast.
Saintchris (mobile alabama)
Do you think the saints will be 10-0 when they play the pats? and what do you think the outcome of that game will be? Who Dat?
Scott Van Pelt (1:10 PM)
I was actually talking about this to someone the other day, I could see the Saints being perfect until NE comes to town with NE winning a high scoring game. Even if that happened it wouldn't change my opinion of the Saints being a Super Bowl caliber team.
Jason (Boston)
Colts/Pats quick hit. What's the final score and who is the MVP of the game?
Scott Van Pelt (1:11 PM)
Pats plus the points.
Garrett Benoit (Greensboro, NC)
Who are your top 5 favorite athletes to watch right now?
Scott Van Pelt (1:13 PM)
Lebron, Peyton Manning, Case Keenum, Ovechkin, and Greivis Vasquez.
Andrew (ATL)
Have you seen the new FSU uniforms that they will be rockin' for the game against your Terps in Tally?
Scott Van Pelt (1:14 PM)
Yes. I think there's a little too much of this going on. I dig throwbacks in moderation, but all this alternative jersey throwback...like Georgia's black helmets against Florida..feels like people are trying too hard.
Justin Sloan (Lexington KY)
Do you think Coach Cal can keep the recruits coming into Lexington if he flops this year?
Scott Van Pelt (1:15 PM)
Yes. He has always been a great recruiter, now he has the Kentucky brand behind his sales pitch. If people in CBB aren't quaking in their boots, they ought to be.
Marc (Charlotte)
Mike Anderson described the Mizzou D as "33 minutes of Hell and 7 minutes of what the Hell are we doing" How would you describe your show?
Scott Van Pelt (1:16 PM)
Some days it's 120 minutes of "what the hell are we doing". Other days it's "8 minutes of the A topic of the day and 2 minutes of Boston accents, 6 minutes of esoteric references 3 people get, and the rest what the hell are we doing". Sound about right?
Chad (Las Vegas)
The SVP Show..... A Diet Coke fueled spewing of todays sports and whatever my imaginary friend tells me to say.
Art (Boise)
Who would win this fight -Vernon Davis or Dwight Howard
Scott Van Pelt (1:18 PM)
Vernon. Dwight doesn't like physical play in the post, Vernon has to go across the middle in the NFL. I've seen Vernon with his shirt off (not like that) and he's like skeletor.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
SVP: I'm thinking about picking up 'NCAA Football '10.' Is it worth the money to upgrade over 'NCAA '08' or would I even be OK getting 'NCAA '09?' I come to the expert here.
Scott Van Pelt (1:20 PM)
I think every year is a little bit better. I just put Madden in for the first time this year, and it was odd. It's lik....Portugese is supposedly is like speaking Spanish...but it's another language so I'm told. That's how Madden felt. I knew how to call the plays, but I couldn't get first downs. So I put college back in, ran the option, heard some fight songs, recruited some 5 stars, and all was right with the world.
Marc (Charlotte)
Wasn't Skeletor a skeleton? Did you mean He-Man?
Scott Van Pelt (1:21 PM)
Skeletor's body? Not his face bro. Skeletor is a skull...look at the rest of him! Or maybe it was Thundercats...I don't know.
Mike (PA)
what do you think about weis? and do you think gruden would make a good college coach and if so, how would he fit in at ND?
Scott Van Pelt (1:22 PM)
I like Kelly for ND. I think College Coaches are College Coaches and Pro Coaches are Pro Coaches. It goes back to what I just said about different languages. Pete Carroll was a mess in the NFL, he's perfect at USC. Bobby Petrino was a disaster in Atlanta. I see Gruden back on an NFL sideline, not in South Bend.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
I don't care what you call it, the show for me is 120 minutes of, 'Why the hell do I find that so funny?'
Scott Van Pelt (1:22 PM)
Good...we'll take that.
tomwit nj [via mobile]
Please list all athletes you have seen shirtless and have seen you shirtless as well.
Scott Van Pelt (1:23 PM)
I've been in locker rooms where typically I didn't wear pants. It was just my thing. When questioned, I would tell them "respect my style". I was kicked out of many locker rooms. (None of what I just described actually happened)
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Loved the answer but just need to know if I should spend $40 on the newest version or go for last year's at $20. Outstanding work though.
Scott Van Pelt (1:24 PM)
If you're standing by a subway stop asking for nickels, go cheap. If you can foot the bill, go for the newer version. It's just a video game, if you need the $20 for something else, save it for something that matters.
Andrew (Georgia)
SVP: Can you do your "One Big Thing" with the Stephen A. Smith accent? I'm going to set the DVR in hopes that it happens!
Scott Van Pelt (1:26 PM)
OBT is typically 1.5 to 2 minutes. SAS is like a 30 second max impersonation. 2 minutes and my head could kersplode...which...as ways to go, go...would at least be memorable. "Yeah dude, I was watching SVP and he screamed HOWEVA and his head blew up like a large mouth bass that ate an M80."
Jason (Bmore)
Who you got, Pitt or ND and why?
Scott Van Pelt (1:27 PM)
I like Pitt a lot, I just have this sneaking suspicion that ND plays well. It's easy to rag on them for the NAVY loss, but if you listen to this show you know how much I respect Navy and how hard it is to prepared for that. Even though Pitt's better than Navy, it's still easier to gameplan for them than it is the Midshipmen.
James (Boston)
It's too early for Thursday night NFL football, right?
Scott Van Pelt (1:28 PM)
Football on any night is a good thing if for no other reason that tonight you can whip together a three team teaser that spans the NFL, the MAC, and the Big East. Good times.
Joe (NYC)
BORING: to weary by dullness, tedious repetition, unwelcome attentions, etc.a dull, tiresome, or uncongenial person a cause of ennui or petty annoyance
Scott Van Pelt (1:31 PM)
Okay so back to one of the first questions. He's been to Eugene and T-town the last two weeks. Advantage Russillo. The older I've gotten, the less concerned I am about whether someone else thinks I'm boring or envy my life. I mostly do whatver I want, whenever I want. If that makes me boring, so be it. My guess is you wouldn't mind a life as boring as mine. And neither would Russillo.
bill (cincinnati)
if you were brian kelly would you rather take over a dysfunctional notre dame team, or build a national championship contender from the ground up
Scott Van Pelt (1:33 PM)
I think Notre Dame has inherent advantages, namely it's own network contract and it's own BCS provisions. I don't know the specific challenges in getting athletes in which would be my one caveat, but if Kelly can win at Cinci, which as 0 bells and whistles, imagine what he could do if God rooted for his team.
Scott Van Pelt (1:33 PM)
Thanks for chatting, time for one of my real jobs. See you next week.
