Chris Low (1:01 PM)
One more week until the SEC title game. Any surprises coming?
Amol (Middlesboro, KY)
Chris, always appreciate the compliments and respect that you have for Rich Brooks, his coaching staff, and the University of Kentucky football program. In 1998 UK was 7-5 and made it to the Outback bowl. Last year South Carolina was 7-5 and played in the Outback bowl. Does a scenario still exist, where if UK loses to Tennessee this saturday, they could still be playing in tampa on New Year's Day.
Chris Low (1:04 PM)
How can you not have respect for what Rich Brooks has done there? I believe Kentucky's in the Outback Bowl this year with a win over Tennessee, but the Vols may slip in if they beat the Wildcats. Auburn could be a factor, too, depending on what happens in the Alabama game. And if LSU loses to Arkansas, the Tigers could enter in. Ultimately, I think the Kentucky-Tennessee winner will go. If the Wildcats lose, I could see them in the Chick-fil-A Bowl.
Jose (NYC)
CL -- How far will the Gators drop next season in the SEC? Are they still going to be in the top 3?
Chris Low (1:06 PM)
No way do the Gators drop out of the Top 5. They're still the favorite to win the East in my book again next season. Brantley can really throw it.
Doran Toney (Talladega, AL)
Assuming that Bama beats Auburn in the Iron Bowl and Florida in the SEC Championship Game, Who wins between an unbeaten Crimson Tide and possibly an unbeaten Texas Long Horns team?
Chris Low (1:09 PM)
With the way Alabama is playing (and has been playing) on defense, coupled with its ability to possess the ball and ride Mark Ingram, I like the Tide's chances against anybody at this point. Quarterback Greg McElroy has also seemed to get back into sync throwing the ball the last few weeks.
Dan (NYC)
Is Ingram a virtual lock for the Hesiman if Bama beats both Auburn and Florida?
Chris Low (1:11 PM)
I wouldn't call him a lock. A lot will depends on how he plays in those games. But I do believe him to be the guy to beat at this point. Gerhart is coming on strong. Spiller is one to watch and either McCoy or Tebow could get back in if they roll it up these next two weeks.
Tom (Richmond)
With Alabama/Florida on the horizon, what do you see as the best matchups in that game and where do you think it will be decided??? Turnovers???
Chris Low (1:13 PM)
Joe Haden vs. Julio JonesThe Pounceys vs. Terrence CodyRolando McClain vs. Tim TebowJames Carpenter vs. Carlos Dunlap/CunninghamI think it comes down to who can make the key third downs in the second half.
Terry (the 'Burgh)
Les Miles isn't playing nice with others, throwing his QB under the bus as if the kid called the passes (errrr, last-drive sacks) and overruled his dive-play calls. Would he and LSU's OC really entrust a player to call those plays?
Chris Low (1:14 PM)
I wouldn't think so. Les didn't come across very well after the game and actually made an already bad situation worse.
Casey (CA)
You said, I think it comes down to who can make the key third downs in the second half. Then Florida wins because TEBOW does this all the time!!!
Chris Low (1:14 PM)
That was certainly the difference in last season's game. He made three huge throws on third down.
chad (Alpena)
Chris, who is "America's Team" of College Football? My friends and I argue all the time.
Chris Low (1:20 PM)
Talk about the great debate. If you're talking all-time, I'd have to go with Notre Dame. Alabama would be in the hunt along with Southern California, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Ohio State.
Jonathan (Cincinnati)
We know Urban Meyer says he's staying at Florida now, but if Notre Dame drops $5 mil a year in his lap would he pack his bags?
Chris Low (1:21 PM)
That would be a negative. Meyer isn't leaving Florida.
Phillip (Baton Rouge)
Many LSU fans, including myself, are calling for Les Miles head. Are we justified in our thinking? By the way he completely lied in the post game press conf. saying he didnt tell jordan to clock it, when video clearly shows otherwise.
Chris Low (1:23 PM)
There's no defending Miles or the offensive staff on anything that happened at the end of that game. And, yes, he made it even worse with his rambling non-explanation in the press conference and the suggestion that Jefferson might have done that on his own. This is the kind of deal that will take its toll on Miles, make the rest of this season even more important and certainly next season. But the guy's won too many games to run him out of town over this.
Jamie (WV)
Scenario: If Auburn beats Bama, then Bama beats FLA, does Bama still get to the NC game ... and if NOT who does?
Chris Low (1:25 PM)
I don't think so. In that scenario, if Texas and TCU both remain unbeaten, I think they would play in the BCS National Championship Game. For a one-loss SEC champion to make it this year, I think two other teams are going to have to lose (say Texas and TCU or maybe TCU and Cincinnati)
Richard Davidson (Oxford, MS)
Who do you see Ole Miss playing in the Capital One Bowl, provided they beat Mississippi State. Where do we go if we lose to State?
Chris Low (1:28 PM)
I would think Iowa or Penn State. If the Rebels lose to Mississippi State, I still think they have a shot at the Capital One, but would likely go back to the Cotton or maybe the Outback.
Nelson (DE)
How do you think LSU's loss to Ole Miss will affect them against Arkansas? A loss to the Hogs would put them at 7-9 in the SEC for the last 2 seasons.
Chris Low (1:30 PM)
Recovering from that loss will be very difficult for the Tigers. Plus, the Hogs are on fire right now offensively. They just can't stop anybody. Then again, LSU hasn't exactly been lighting it up on offense. I think this is a fourth-quarter game, and if LSU loses, then it really gets dicey for Miles heading into next season.
Thomas (High Point)
How about some love for Wes Brown!
Chris Low (1:31 PM)
A guy who truly gave his all for Tennessee.
nick (ohio)
chris, how much longer is the ol ball coach going to stick with the gamecocks?
Chris Low (1:32 PM)
I feel like he's going to be there at least one more season now. He likes the young talent in this program. The Gamecocks played well against Florida. The game this weekend is a big one. South Carolina needs to find a way to beat Clemson at home. He doesn't want to walk away like this.
Mo (NYC)
Coming into the season, no one saw 'Bama (not even this diehard) replicating a perfect campaign. If 'Bama wins outright (including NC game), isn't Saban at least in COY discussion? People forget we replaced 3/5 of our O-line!
Chris Low (1:34 PM)
In terms of SEC Coach of the Year, I think it's a Saban vs. Brooks race right now. If Kentucky beats Tennessee, it's going to be hard for Brooks not win it. That said, Saban has done a masterful job this year despite some key losses from 2008.
Matt (Little Rock)
Why should Ryan Mallett NOT be the 1st team All SEC QB? His stats are better than Tebow's and he is probably just as valuable to his team as Tebow. IF Mallett stays for his RS Junior season, do you think he is a legit Heisman contender?
Chris Low (1:36 PM)
Right now, Mallett is definitely the first-team All-SEC quarterback. Nobody at quarterback has had a better year. Could that change in these next two weeks? Maybe, but it's going to be hard for Tebow to move past him. And, yes, if Mallett puts up these kind of numbers next year, I think he will be in the Heisman running. The first thing is keeping him in school. He's eligible for the NFL draft, although I think he needs to come back for another year.
Mo (NYC)
I know it's like splitting atoms, but who do you take: Bama's or Florida's D?
Chris Low (1:37 PM)
Can I pick an all-star team from the two defenses?
Laura (Birmingham, AL)
If Timmy Tebow wins another SEC title, is he the greatest SEC football player ever? I know he's "in the conversation," but yes or no?
Chris Low (1:39 PM)
I'll put it this way: He's the best one I've personally covered in the SEC, which goes back to the league split in 1992. I saw Herschel play and I saw Bo play. In my lifetime, those are the three best I saw ... just counting what they did in the SEC.
Memphis Rob (Memphis, TN)
Who's the better return man, Brandon James or Javier Arenas
Chris Low (1:40 PM)
That's so close, but I'd go with Arenas because he's so phyiscal and can run through tackles as well as he can run away from tacklers.
Payne (somewhere in athens )
What should i expect in Athens next year? All of the same, poor Qb play, poor def and poor special teams? Any sign of change?
Chris Low (1:43 PM)
Payne, I feel your pain. There has to be change. Coach Richt won't have any choice. The good news is that there are two heralded quarterbacks on campus. A.J. Green will be back as well as most of the offensive line. I would definitely look for changes on defense. The Dogs have given up 30 points or more in 10 of their last 20 games dating to last season. You can't win like that in this league, and Richt knows it.
Don (Sugar Land)
What is your Bowl pick for LSU with a) win vs Ark b) Loss to ArkThanks
Chris Low (1:44 PM)
LSU goes to the Cotton with a win and either the Outback, Chick-fil-A or Music City with a loss.
Chris (TN)
Where do you se Tennessee going win or lose?
Chris Low (1:45 PM)
Tennessee will go to either the Outback or Chick-fil-A with a win and likely the Liberty with a loss.
Mike (LA)
How good is Patrick Peterson of LSU going to be?
Chris Low (1:46 PM)
He's been the best and most complete cornerback I've seen in the SEC this season.
Jason (Birmingham, Alabama)
You honestly Believe Tebow is better than Bo Jackson? Chris I like you but come on...
Chris Low (1:48 PM)
I said those three are the best I've seen in my lifetime. Tebow is the best I've personally covered in the SEC, which goes back to the league split in 1992. Bo played in the 1980s. Again, this is based purely on what they did in the SEC.
Doran Toney (Talladega, AL)
If Auburn loses 4 or 5 games next year like they have this year, do you think Chizik's seat gets hot?
Chris Low (1:48 PM)
Nah, you've got to give him at least three recruiting classes and four years to see what he can do with those classes. The Tigers were way down in numbers this year. I think Chizik is off to a nice start.
Mark (Iraq)
Is it now safe to say that Alabama is offically back
Chris Low (1:51 PM)
Hmmm, working on a second straight unbeaten regular season in the SEC? I'd say it's safe to say that. Lot of really good young talent in the program too (Richardson, Dareus, Barron, Ingram, Jones, McCarron, etc.) Happy Thanksgiving to you and all your partners over there in Iraq and thanks for your service.
Christopher (Oxford, MS)
What will be the deciding factor in the UK-UT game?
Chris Low (1:52 PM)
Tennessee being able to shut down Randall Cobb and making Morgan Newton beat them throwing the football.
Nick (Tuscaloosa, AL)
Who is better Shaun Alexander or Mark Ingram?
Chris Low (1:54 PM)
Can I have them both and play them in the same backfield?Alexander was probably a little more versatile, not much, though. They both are great short-yardage runners, and Ingram is so good after contact. Alexander ended up being a great one. But at this point in their careers, Ingram has been more productive
Nick (Florida)
If the SEC title game comes down "to who can convert the key 3rd downs", doesn't that favor Florida with Tebow at the helm? He is the ultimate 3rd down weapon.
Chris Low (1:56 PM)
He sure is, but Alabama might be in a lot of third-and-shorts with Mark Ingram in the backfield.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
What have been the biggest surprises in the SEC this season for you, both good and bad?
Chris Low (1:59 PM)
Kentucky has been the surprise team, especially the way the Wildcats have hung in there despite a lot of injuries.I also didn't see Alabama being quite this good losing those offensive linemen.Vanderbilt took a step back that I didn't see coming.I knew Ryan Mallett was talented. I didn't know that he would throw 30 touchdowns.I thought Ole Miss would be better earlier and contend in the West.Jevan Snead hasn't had the season I thought he would.Jonathan Crompton has rebounded like I never thought he would.Georgia's a lot worse than I thought the Bulldogs would be.
Jay (South of Rocky Top)
thoughts on lane kiffin so far?
Chris Low (2:02 PM)
Really good start recruiting. I like how hard this team plays. He's done a great job with Crompton. The jury is still out on his in-game coaching. The Vols haven't beaten anybody that counts yet and lost at home to two teams (UCLA and Auburn) they were at least as good as, if not better.
Kathy (Jackson, MS)
Do you think there is ANY hope that Auburn can pull the upset this week?
Chris Low (2:03 PM)
Sure, the game's at home and Alabama has played some close games this year. Auburn has to get off to a good start early on offense and make Alabama play from behind.
Cal (Vienna, Austria)
You mention the greatness of Herschel...don't forget about the guy who just broke his all purpose yards record for Freshmen...VU's Warren Norman!
Chris Low (2:04 PM)
Great year for Mr. Norman, but I'd say he would be the first to tell you that he's not in Herschel's class.
Matt (Georgia)
If Georgia miraculously beats Tech this weekend, any chance in a better bowl game than the papjohns.com bowl?
Chris Low (2:05 PM)
Maybe the Chick-fil-A or Music City
Chris Low (2:07 PM)
Thanks for all the questions. Should be a fun next week or two, and I want to wish everybody a happy Thanksgiving. Hope you all get to spend a bunch of time this week with your loved ones.
