Tim Graham (3:03 PM)
Good afternoon, folks. I have a Coke and some beef jerky. Essentials for a good chat. Let's get rolling.
Adam (New York, NY)
As noted in Gregg Easterbrook's TMQ column, the Jets run 72% of the time on first down, by far the most in the league. It would probably help them to mix it up. Might you expect it to change, if for no other reason than to become a little less predictable on offense?
Tim Graham (3:05 PM)
Strangely, Mark Sanchez also throws interceptions 72 percent of the time. The Jets might want to run that often on second and third downs, too.
Adam (New York, NY)
Bigger loss in the AFC East - Kris Jenkins for the Jets defense, or Ronnie Brown for the Dolphins offense?
Tim Graham (3:06 PM)
Adam is taking over the chat ... I think losing Brown hurts more because they already were down Pennington. If Pennington still were healthy, then my answer would have been Jenkins.
Jared (Buffalo)
What would the best plan for the Bills be at the RB and QB positions in the offseason?
Tim Graham (3:07 PM)
The Bills are fine at running back. They should let Lynch and Jackson fight for their carries. The Bills need to draft a blue-chip QB prospect or find somebody in free agency, but those pickings look slim.
Joe (Cuse)
Tim you going to the Pats phins game this week?
Tim Graham (3:07 PM)
I will be there.
Clinton (Philadelphia)
Darrelle Revis is the best player in the NFL
Tim Graham (3:08 PM)
Not sure if he's the best, but he's my favorite to watch.
Matt (IN)
Tim, do you realize that you're chatting opposite Jim Boeheim right now? Greatness just follows you around, doesn't it?
Tim Graham (3:08 PM)
I hope you posted this question in his chat, too.
Joe (Cuse)
Do you think the race for afc east is over?
Tim Graham (3:09 PM)
It pretty much has been for a few weeks, but the Patriots losing two out of three has made it a little more interesting.
Tim Graham (3:10 PM)
I'm opposite Boeheim and Joe from Syracuse is here. I'm honored. Anybody up for some Paul Pasqualoni talk?
Todd (tampa fl)
Tim why isn't anyone talking about how the bills were having success with Lynch and right after he scored a TD to take the lead they stopped giving the ball to him?
Tim Graham (3:11 PM)
I wondered if the Bills would keep giving it to Lynch after that monster drive in the second quarter, but I guess he was in there just to give Fred Jackson a breather. Perry Fewell has decided Jackson is his featured back for now.
Matt (IN)
I actually did post that question for him. I don't think he will answer it though, unless maybe he's a Bills fan and wants to gripe at you for being a Patriots/Jets/Fins fan.
nick (maryland)
did you develop all that wit over the years or were you just born with it?
Tim Graham (3:13 PM)
I take it in pill form. People tell me it's better to mainline wit, but needles make me queasy.
Tim Graham (3:17 PM)
Having some connection issues here at the new Graham HQ. Just moved in last week, and the phone company keeps rescheduling my high-speed installation. So I'm on an aircard with the hiccups.
the kid (nyc)
darrelle revis is the man. he deserves every accolade he is getting. are there any players with more nicknames? i have heard revis island, master lock, shut down, jesus revis.
Tim Graham (3:17 PM)
What about Revis the Riveter?
ZB (Seattle)
Assuming Pennington shoulder rehab goes well, does Miami have a QB controversy on their hands next season?
Tim Graham (3:18 PM)
I don't see it. Their quarterback of the future will have two full seasons of NFL experience and almost one season of starting experience. Henne keeps the job.
Clay (Charlotte)
Homemade or store bought beef jerky? Real men make their own.
Tim Graham (3:19 PM)
I'm a phony. Jack Link's ... I bought it for the drive to Toronto yesterday.
Billy (Weston, FL)
What do you think Revis's chances are of winning DPY?
Tim Graham (3:20 PM)
Might come down to him and Elvis Dumervil.
Emmanuel (Las Vegas)
Can you touch on the mike tannenbaums philosophy of giving up depth and draft picks for Vets. In the short term its great, but it's bound to hurt the jets. I believe they'll have 3 picks again?! thoughts?
Tim Graham (3:22 PM)
You're absolutely right, Emmanuel. It kills your depth when you fill out the bottom of your roster with undrafted free agents and castoffs and not draft picks year after year after year. You need to constantly infuse your organization with prospects, not longshots.
Dylan (New York)
The Jets will have at least 4 picks and maybe 5 depending how much Lito plays. Plus they will probably receive a couple compensatory picks because they lost half their players to the Browns in the offseason.
Tim Graham (3:22 PM)
If they keep them.
Mike Martz (Unemploymentville)
Pencil me in for Buffalo in 2010
Tim Graham (3:23 PM)
I know Martz is interested. And if he's spending his Friday afternoon's on this chat, then I can see he has the time on his hands.
Detlef Schrempf (Portland, OR)
How do you see the division shaking out? If Miami wins this weekend, its wide open again
Tim Graham (3:24 PM)
Your definition of wide open is different than mine. The Patriots with a one-game lead and only four to play is not wide open in my book.
Mike (Ottawa)
Any chance the Bills can get a 2 for 1 out of Montreal. Trestman to coach and Calvillo to play QB?
Tim Graham (3:25 PM)
That would be an interesting combo. I don't think Calvillo is an NFL quarterback, but I'd like to see Trestman get his shot to be an NFL head coach.
ZB (Seattle)
Regarding DPOY: you have to consider Charles Woodson along with Revis. Revis is better in coverage perhaps, but Woodson has been making game-changing plays.
Tim Graham (3:25 PM)
And I was remiss in not mentioning Darren Sharper. Thanks, ZB.
Corey "Squirt" Ferris (In Da Hizzzzouse!)
Tim you are my main man Hero! What do I have to do to get a poster sized autographed picture? Let me know that as well as what is the best facial moisturizer out there? I got a big date coming up tonight. Oh yeah this is a football chat so if the Bills move to Los Angeles will they stay in the East or will Divisions re-align?
Tim Graham (3:27 PM)
If I truly was your hero, you'd know that my chats are not about football. Now put your pants back on and go do something productive with your day.
Andrew (Miami, FL)
If Vontae Davis and Sean Smith are busy covering Randy Moss; who has the best chance of stopping Wes Welker?
Tim Graham (3:28 PM)
South Beach
Gheorghe Muresan (Washington, D.C.)
Tiger Woods: Yay or nay?
Tim Graham (3:29 PM)
If only those irons could talk.
Zach (Hawaii)
Tim, Nathan Jones is miami's nickel corner, he's been solid this season and the defenses unsung hero
Tim Graham (3:30 PM)
I agree. Nate Jones is having a great year.
lexie (amherst, MA)
with maroney running so well right now, is fred taylor's comeback actually a negative to the team's overall success?
Tim Graham (3:30 PM)
Not a negative, but not as big of a deal as some might think.
Todd (tampa fl)
What are the odds an AFC East teams gets a wild card playoff spot?
Tim Graham (3:31 PM)
1 in 70
Zach (Hawaii)
that's regarding your comment about wes welker
Tim Graham (3:31 PM)
I know.
Avi (Boston)
are we going to see more of lex hilliard soon
Tim Graham (3:33 PM)
That's my hunch. The Dolphins signed Ricky Williams through next year, so if they want to keep him in their plans, they'd be wise not to turn him into a workhorse for seven straight games. Hilliard is good enough to offer a decent complement and keep Williams fresh.
Trevor (Buffalo)
Will we see Brian Brohm start this year
Tim Graham (3:37 PM)
I see a very small chance in that. Maybe he'll play in the last game or two in mop-up duty, but keep in mind Perry Fewell is auditioning for the permanent job. He's going to use the players that give him the best chance to win.
Joe (Cuse)
Tim who wins Mayweather or Pacman?
Tim Graham (3:38 PM)
A year ago, I said if they were to fight, Pacquiao would win. I'm standing by that.
Zach (Hawaii)
Do the Patriots resign Vince Wilfork or does he go into free agency?
Tim Graham (3:39 PM)
The Patriots have to bring him back. 3-4 nose tackles are critical, and there are so few of them out there. If they let him go, that's a mammoth void.
nick (maryland)
who wins merriweather or pacman jones?
David (Saint Paul)
I have this weird feeling the Dolphins will meet the Vikings at the Superbowl this year in Miami. How unrealistic is this 'weird feeling'?
Tim Graham (3:41 PM)
That wasn't a waking dream. You were watching the NFL Films recap of Super Bowl VIII.
Zach (Hawaii)
the Patriots drafted Ron Brace right, so what do they do with him?
Tim Graham (3:42 PM)
Hard to say how good he is with the number of times he has been deactivated.
Brian (Shortsville)
Any sense of how the Bills are prioritizing their organizational shake-up. Everyone is giddy about Shanahan, dreaming about Cowher and; until last night; enthusiastic about Fewell. What about the GM/talent evaluator guy?
Tim Graham (3:44 PM)
That's more critical that the coach. If logic is in play here (let's not assume), then the Bills were smart to talk to those A-list coaching candidates before a possible GM. Those big-time coaches would want to sign off on the GM. When you consider bringing in a second-tier coach, you probably want your GM involved in the process. In the latter case, you'd hire the GM first, coach second and not vice versa.
EL (winter haven, FL)
SUP TIM, wow the way the fins are drafting where seeing a dynasty being built dont you think Tim?. and dont forget about the FA signees
Tim Graham (3:45 PM)
They are putting together an impressive foundation. Even though they took a step backward record-wise, they are admirably competitive week in, week out. And they're young.
SlideMarkSlide (Tampa, Florida)
Why dont the Bills just give Jim Kelly the GM job, he always seems to have the answers.
Darrel Revis (On Another Planet)
When am I going to start getting consideration for Defensive Player of the Year!?!?
Tim Graham (3:46 PM)
You must be on another planet because you have been getting consideration on Mother Earth for a couple weeks now.
John (Boston)
please put in order of bigger need for pats offense: RB, 3rd WR or TE
Tim Graham (3:47 PM)
Third receiver, running back, tight end.
Clinton (Philadelphia)
Darrelle Revis is the Wayne Gretzky of defensive backs
SlideMarkSlide (Tampa, Florida)
Where would the Jets be if Brett Favre was still the starting QB?
Tim Graham (3:51 PM)
Braylon Edwards can't catch passes from normal quarterbacks. Edwards would have several crosses from the point of the football tattooed on his chest ... from where they drilled him and bounced off.
Matt (Nanuet)
How about General Revis!!! Like General Grievis from Star Wars! Anybody...Anybody????
Jack (Cary)
What position should the dolphins target for there 2010 first round pick?
Tim Graham (3:52 PM)
If there's one available, a downfield receiving threat. If not, inside linebacker.
Ryan (Astoria NY)
Tim, why doesn't Buffalo offer Shanahan a contract now, so he can coach the rest of the year to see what he is working with? Or is this a matter of Shanahan waiting to see what other openings will be available for him?
Tim Graham (3:53 PM)
Maybe they have offered him a contract (but probably not). ... Either way, Shanahan wouldn't sign it. No coach would want to come in and work with somebody else's junk. He'd want an offseason to bring in the players he likes.
Joe (Cuse)
Matt From Nanuet..Not bad..not bad at all
joe (boston)
i forgot that the jet's won their superbowl in week 2 against the pats, thats whyy the fans are happy with losing the rest of the year aslong as revis does okay. My bad tim
John (Columbus, OH)
Please tell me there is zero chance Cavanagh will get the Jets OC job if Schotty leaves.
Tim Graham (3:56 PM)
I can't tell you that. It would seem like the logical move, no?
Alexander (Albany)
Joe, can I assume your team of choice is the Patriots?
Steve (NYC)
Lots of Revis love in here, but he's just not as good as the guy in Oakland.
Bill (La Verne, California)
Where's Ed when you need him?
Joe (Indiana)
Looks like Pete Rose gave Sanchez head first sliding pointers... Is this PCL strain a partial tear?
Tim Graham (3:57 PM)
No, it's not a tear from I've been told. Adam Schefter reports Sanchez will play next week if he can handle the pain.
SlideMarkSlide (Tampa, Florida)
Steve, has Nandi covered as many elite WRs in one season as Revis has this year? Take a look at the guys Revis has covered this year.
Trevor (Buffalo)
Super Bowl winner?
Tim Graham (3:59 PM)
My preseason pick was the Steelers to repeat because everybody was back. I'm sticking with that pick.
Kellen Clemens (rubbing my hands with glee)
Speaking of that PCL strain...is this my chance to audition for the starting job in Cleveland next year?
Tim Graham (4:00 PM)
If that happens ... Those poor Cleveland fans ...
Justin (Marlboro, NJ)
Tim, big fan. Thoughts on Chad Pennington returning to the Jets next season to back up Sanchez, assuming he doesn't retire and makes a full recovery?
Tim Graham (4:01 PM)
Thanks, Justin. Interesting thought on Pennington, a homecoming that might work with Mangini gone. But Pennington has said he enjoys working with Henne, and if you're going to be a backup, would you rather do it in New Jersey or Miami?
Emmanuel (Las Vegas)
Erik Ainge will create a qb controversy in NY.
Tim Graham (4:02 PM)
The controversy: Who's the best third quarterback, Ainge or O'Connell?
R (in CT)
Rex Ryan, Bill Belichick, Perry Fewell & Tony Sparano all in a steel cage match -- who walks out the winner?
Tim Graham (4:04 PM)
Fewell or Sparano in a tossup.
nick (buffalo)
love R's question!
Emmanuel (Las Vegas)
I know he's struggled as of late, but he's a 4 year starter from the SEC. Give him time. Our luck Ainge will go to the panthers and become a star.
Tim Graham (4:04 PM)
SEC quarterbacks always work out.
Ed Hochuli (Chat Ref)
That's unchatmanlike conduct against Kellen Clemens. The only thing you will be auditing for is the position of lead janitor at the local Wal-Mart. 15 yards and repeat 1st down.
Tim Graham (4:06 PM)
Wow. Pretty harsh, Ed. But we all have to abide by the rules.
Xander (Philly)
Oh come on Tim, that joke i sent was a gem!!!
Tim Graham (4:07 PM)
Let's see, references to animal cruelty, domestic abuse and taking a shot at an entire region of people. Other than that, I could have posted it.
Tim Graham (4:07 PM)
For those who were wondering, yes, it was a Tiger Woods joke.
Zach (Hawaii)
with all this talk if darrelle Revis, I find it Ironic that he can cover all of the elite WR but Gos forbid if ted ginn lines up on him he gets beat for a touchdown
Tim Graham (4:08 PM)
Gos is tough on the double move.
Xander (Philly)
I didnt say it was PC, but i'm betting it made you giggle...also, how about the other futbol? Loving the US' draw. BRING ON THE REDCOATS!!!!!!!!!!
Tim Graham (4:09 PM)
OK, folks, a couple more and then I have to wrap it up.
dan (boston)
worst division in football, is it the AFC east or NFC west?
Tim Graham (4:10 PM)
NFC West by far.
Greg (Boston, MA)
Tim, what games are you going to be at for the last 4 weeks?
Tim Graham (4:11 PM)
Not sure where I will be for Week 14 yet. I will be covering Patriots at Dolphins on Sunday.
John (Columbus, OH)
I love all the Jets haters throwing the Ginn TD out there as an argument against Revis. One TD to a terrible, but fast, receiver in a game in which Miami ran the ball 99% of the time. Ginn caught the entire secondary sleeping on one play - what else did he do in that game or the second game they played?
Joseph (Ft Worth)
Tim - do you think the Dolphins brass realize they need a WR playmaker or will they continue to acquire "core" team guys
Tim Graham (4:14 PM)
They've been looking since last offseason. Receiver is a high priority for them, but the sticker prices for free agents or trades were more than where they valued the player. They don't make moves out of desperation, which should make Dolfans happy for the long-term.
Ed Hochuli (Chat Ref)
You want to beat the Redcoats? Easy. I'll just show up at game time and walk onto the field shirtless. They'll quit on the spot.
Tim Graham (4:15 PM)
On that note ...Have a great weekend, everybody!
