len (1:15 PM)
sorry about the elay, gang, had a doctor's appointment that ran long. thanks for your patience, let's get started.
Being a Rutgers fan, it was great to see Britt and Rice play so well. How are each of these guys viewed in the league and what is their upside? To me, Britt looks like a young T.O. and Rice looks a little like Emmitt - admittedly pie in the sky.
len (1:17 PM)
two really goo players from an improving program. i haven't seen rice in person yet, but guys in baltimore really like him. i like britt a lot.
undefeated n.o v undefeated indy, both at full strength in the s.b. who wins & why?
len (1:19 PM)
don't mean to cop out, sir, but i will anyway. even strength, no injuries (which can't happen for indy), it would be tough to pick. it would sure be entertaining, though, wouldn't it?
Chad (Las Vegas)
Hope everything is okay from the doctor visit. What do you think of the Saints showing last night?
len (1:21 PM)
everything was great, sir, thanks so much for asking. wow, saints were unstoppable, weren't they? gregg williams had done a great job with the D, but props to sean payton, and his play-calling and offensive design. it sure seems like the wr's always have 3-4 yards of cushion.
Greg (Ashburn va)
LEN,Do you see jim zorn getting fired from the redskins before week 17?
len (1:24 PM)
no, sir, i don't. as i've written before, it rarely makes a difference in a team's performance, so why not wait until the end of the season, whenthe possibilities are enhanced. that said, yeah, i think he will be fired at season's end. too bad, a nice man in over his head.
george (st. louis)
Do you think the 49ers will make the playoffs?
len (1:26 PM)
anything is possible, sir, in the bunched-up nfc, and given the play of alex smith last week, that's heartening. but a bunch of teams for them to crawl over, so, no, i don't see them making it.
What do you think has lead to the turnaround of GB's pass protection?
len (1:28 PM)
would normally say, kampan, sir, but he's been hurt (concussion), and can be a free agent after the year . . . i think clay matthews can be a 10-sack guy every year, but i don't know that he's better than kampman
Any thoughts on who the Bills will go after for coach now that the Shanahan interview is out of the way?
len (1:30 PM)
someone asked a couple week ago, sir, if i thought they could attracy an "A-list" guy, and i still think that's possible . . . but, as a lot of other people have pointed out, look for a jim haslett type of guy
Will teams actually admit a mistake was made in hiring a head coach after one year? Cleveland and Tampa come to mind.
len (1:33 PM)
great question, sir, because, even though economics shouldn't be a factor, it will be . .. clev is still paying off crennel and savagae, and i'm pretty sure bucs are still paying bruce allen (and maybe gruden, although i'll have to check on that one) . . . barring economics, which is easy for me to say, since it's not my money, both places need to bite the bullet and make a change
Len, What do you think about the chances of the Colts being beaten by the Chargers in the Playoffs?
len (1:34 PM)
the chargers seem to have the colts' number in the playoffs, sir . . . but having seen indy on sunday, they are very resilient, and i won't bet against them, that's for sure
Has Revis become the best CB in the league?
len (1:36 PM)
as a pitt grad, sir, i'm biased. but he's really good . . . caught a lot of heat, and deservedly so, for not having him on my midseason all-pro team
Hey Len,I've been a Saints fan my whole life, and you know that means mostly bad times with my team. So while I am excited, I am still wary and worried the other shoe will drop some way some how. Did the game against the Pats remove any doubts you may have had?
len (1:38 PM)
not many doubts remained anyway, sir, but it sure reduced them even further. . . i've said this before in chats, but roman harper (cheap plug) has really benefitted from gregg williams
Greg (Ashburn VA)
len ,,Do you see THE REDSKINS team in the mix for mike shanahan ?
len (1:39 PM)
yes, sir, for sure . . . he's really tight with director of football ops vinny cerrato, and the kind of big-splash guy snyder loves . .. but mike is going to have to have a ton of control and that, more than money, is the biggest issue
Walter (Boone, NC)
Who do you see as rookie of the year? Percy Harvin, Knowshon Moreno, Brian Cushing or someone else not named here?
len (1:41 PM)
got to see cushing for the first time last sunday, sir, and he was very impressive . . . in fact, wrote about him and the other USC rookie linebackers earlier today . . . haven't seen jairus byrd yet, but am looking forward to it.
Dave (SF, CA)
Why wouldn't Tomlin try to put points on the board with the Steelers on their 40 with half a minute left before half time?
len (1:43 PM)
probably, sir, because he essentially had a rookie qb playing . . . no quibbls with that play-calling.dixon did show that he might be ready to be the no. 2 next year
I know alot of people say Dan Synder is the problem in DC and in many ways he is with his constant regime changes and bad hirings. But he is always willing to spend to win. Do u think he can hire a great football guy like Shanahan or Cowher and support them with his resources but not his input to build a successful organization? For the most part he did that with Gibbs but Gibbs just didnt get it done correct?
len (1:46 PM)
i thin ke still had too much input, sir, with gibbs, although your premise is a good one. DS, as a life-long skins fan, had too much respect for gibbs to be as meddlesome as usual. no doubt he'll spend money and wants to win. but i'm still an old-school guy who feels you have to draft well, too. orapko as nice start, but tey've got to keep doing it
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Mr. Pasquarelli: Has Brett Favre found the Fountain of Youth or just an offensive line that will give him the protection he needs?
len (1:48 PM)
a little bit of both, sir. . . was talking to football guy i respect today, and we agreed favre could not have hand-picked a better situation. his opinion: the line is pretty good, but favre has made it even better
Walter (Boone, NC)
Do you think the top three receivers (Wayne, Garcon, and Collie) that the Colts have now will eventually compare to Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, and Brandon Stokley?
len (1:52 PM)
pretty tough, sir, since marvin will someday be a hof-guy, and i really liked stokley. but the young guys are playing well, and wayne just keeps making clutch plays, even when everyone in the building knows he's getting the ball . . . would be nice if gonzalez, who has disappointed some people in the organization with a lack of toughness, comes back soon
Did you even read Stephen from Atlanta's question? He asked about Green Bay's pass PROTECTION, not its pass RUSH. And stop using "sir" every response. It's annoying.
len (1:54 PM)
thanks, sir, for pointing out that oversight to me . . . after the older guys, clifton and tauscher, i don't know enough about the kids to make an assessment . . . again, sir, thanks for correcting me
I like the hiring of Mike Shanhan by the Skins but doesnt Vinny Cerrato have to go? He decisions have for the most part been bad to terrible.
len (1:56 PM)
i think, sir, that he has to go as the GM-type guy. . . actually, if you talk to vinny, he's a knowledgable guy and a talented scout . . . . but no way should he be a GM, even if it's snyder making most of the personnel calls
Katelyn (Syracuse, NY)
Is Lovie Smith done in Chicago? Cutler seems to be a bust so far this season, while Orton is thriving in Denver.
len (1:58 PM)
i could be dead wrong about this, sir, but i don't see the bears dumping lovie . . . i've herad the reports about the bears reaching out to cowher, but haven't heard that first-hand . . . will there be staffing changes, even if lovie stays? you bet.
Walter (Boone, NC)
With 0?00%, will Chris Johnson beat the rushing record?
len (1:59 PM)
no, but i think he'll be one of only four men in history, sir, to rush for 1,800-plus yards and average 6 yards a carry
Your killin me Len
len (2:00 PM)
If Ryan's injury really is just a turf toe, why would they declare him out on Monday? Mike Smith is usually more coy w/ injuries. Makes me think it's serious. Any insight?
len (2:04 PM)
turf toe is more serious, sir, than people think. i remember, years ago in pittsburgh when i was (a whole lot) younger, we used to laugh that turf toe basically ended the career of tough-giuy jack lambert . . . then i saw lambert's foot and never questioned it again. i think ryan has classic case of turf toe but, to me, it's somewhat ominous that he went to visit dr. robert chandler, a foot specialist, in chrlotte yesterday. and to be kind, being coy would be an upgrade for mike smith who is borederline belichick-cryptic about injuries
Matt (Bryan, TX)
A lot of the local media is calling for Kubiak's head. Do you think there is any chance he is fired? Any chance for Bill Cowher?
len (2:06 PM)
lots of people more familiar than me, sir, seemed to think kubiak is in trouble, especially after sunday . . . i've not heard that, but that doesn't mean it isn't true
len (2:07 PM)
got to run, thanks for the great questions
