If you look at the Big East you have to look at Greg Monroe of Georgetown. He's big guy that can score inside and out. Scottie Reynolds of Villanova. Luke Harangody from Notre Dame.

He's a talented unselfish player. He doesn't try to score a lot and plays within the flow of the game. He's a fun guy to play with because he shares the ball and is a totally unselfish player.

(Laughing) I don't think there is a huge change. I think players are focusing more on going to the NBA then they were 20 years ago.

Coach, how do you think DeShonte Riley is developing? Do you think he can be like Arinze Onuaku, who started his career out slow but turned into a great player?

Yes, big guys usually take a little longer to get to a point where they can play on this level day in and day out. If he continues to work hard he has a great opportunity to become a great player.

Anytime you can win a National Championship, its always a great moment. Winning a National Championship for your players and your program is always a great feeling.

What keeps you motivated year in year out with your coaching responsibilties and all the work you do with Coaches vs. Cancer? About how long do you plan to keep coaching?

I'm not sure how long after this year. I'm year-to-year. The motivation is simple, you start out 0-0. You try to get the team to be as good as they can be year after year. I didn't think I would be coaching this long but here I am.

I knew Jimmy and played in the V Foundation golf tournament many times. Over the past couple of years, we've been heavily involved with Coaches vs. Cancer which raises money for the V Foundation.

What did you to fight your cancer? Did you throw yourself into the game of basketball?

When we found that I had cancer, I hard surgery and now I've been cancer free for six years now. I caught it early that that helped me out the most. After surgery, I just went back to work.

Jim, how does this year's SU team compare with the team that won the 2003 National Championship?

It's really too early to compare this team and the 2003 National Championship team. We're off to a great start but it's still to early in the season to draw comparisons to the two teams.

That's a good question. It's hard to say right now. West Virginia and Villanova are very good teams right now. Both have been picked to win the league and both look really strong right now.

Jim, you've helped to produce many great collegiate and pro players in your career. Who was your best player who, for whatever reason, never made it to the NBA?

That's a hard question. You never know who is going to make it. Some guys surprise you and make the NBA while others you think will make it don't. I wouldn't pick out any one guy. You never can tell who's going to make it in the NBA.

Coach, '04 Alum here. Congrats on 800! I was at the Garden for both wins and was obviously impressed with what you have done so far with this team. It seems like this is the best all around team you have had in the last ten years, being able to play inside and outside. Do you agree?

I think this is the best team we've had in a couple years. We aren't at our best yet but we are getting there.

I think all the coaches are helping out our young guys. You have two guards on our staff with Gerry and Simms. It's great to have these guys around for the players to talk to because they have been through what these current players will go through.
