Chat with Jim Boeheim
Welcome to SportsNation! On Friday, Syracuse men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim stops by to help celebrate Jimmy V Week here at ESPN.
In the 16 years since The V Foundation for Cancer Research was founded by ESPN and Jim Valvano, the foundation has raised more than $90 million. The V Foundation started with the dream of Valvano, the former NC State basketball coach and award-winning broadcaster, as he battled cancer. For more information, or to donate to the V Foundation, call 1-800-4-JimmyV or go here. Every cent of every donation goes directly to cancer research.
In his 34th season at Syracuse, Boeheim, 65, won his 800th game as a coach on Nov. 9. He fought his own battle with prostate cancer and has been active with the "Coaches vs. Cancer" early season basketball tournament for years. Boeheim has a national title under his belt, as well as five Big East Tournament and seven Big East regular season titles.
Send your questions now and join Boeheim Friday at 3 p.m. ET!

Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
Jim, Who are going to be the toughest players to face in the big east?
Jim Boeheim (3:08 PM)
If you look at the Big East you have to look at Greg Monroe of Georgetown. He's big guy that can score inside and out. Scottie Reynolds of Villanova. Luke Harangody from Notre Dame.
Joseppi (Los Angeles, CA)
What's the one thing we don't know about Wes Johnson that we should?
Jim Boeheim (3:09 PM)
He's a talented unselfish player. He doesn't try to score a lot and plays within the flow of the game. He's a fun guy to play with because he shares the ball and is a totally unselfish player.
Big T (State College, PA)
Coach good luck this year, I am just wondering how the game has changed since your first years coaching?
Jim Boeheim (3:10 PM)
(Laughing) I don't think there is a huge change. I think players are focusing more on going to the NBA then they were 20 years ago.
Evan I (NYC, NY)
Coach, how do you think DeShonte Riley is developing? Do you think he can be like Arinze Onuaku, who started his career out slow but turned into a great player?
Jim Boeheim (3:11 PM)
Yes, big guys usually take a little longer to get to a point where they can play on this level day in and day out. If he continues to work hard he has a great opportunity to become a great player.
Dave (Williamsport Pa.)
Coach bringing my kids to the dome for the 1st time Saturday night. How about leaving Wes in to score 40!
Jim Boeheim (3:12 PM)
(Laughing) You never know what's going to happen in a game. We might need him to score 40. You never know what's going to happen in a college basketball game.
Tank (Astoria)
Congratulations on #800 coach! What's your favorite memory?
Jim Boeheim (3:13 PM)
Anytime you can win a National Championship, its always a great moment. Winning a National Championship for your players and your program is always a great feeling.
Andrew Wituszynski (Kansas City, MO)
What keeps you motivated year in year out with your coaching responsibilties and all the work you do with Coaches vs. Cancer? About how long do you plan to keep coaching?
Jim Boeheim (3:15 PM)
I'm not sure how long after this year. I'm year-to-year. The motivation is simple, you start out 0-0. You try to get the team to be as good as they can be year after year. I didn't think I would be coaching this long but here I am.
Michael (New Jersey)
How did you get involved with the V Foundation?
Jim Boeheim (3:16 PM)
I knew Jimmy and played in the V Foundation golf tournament many times. Over the past couple of years, we've been heavily involved with Coaches vs. Cancer which raises money for the V Foundation.
James (Brooklyn, NY)
What did you to fight your cancer? Did you throw yourself into the game of basketball?
Jim Boeheim (3:17 PM)
When we found that I had cancer, I hard surgery and now I've been cancer free for six years now. I caught it early that that helped me out the most. After surgery, I just went back to work.
Colin (Washington, DC)
Jim, how does this year's SU team compare with the team that won the 2003 National Championship?
Jim Boeheim (3:18 PM)
It's really too early to compare this team and the 2003 National Championship team. We're off to a great start but it's still to early in the season to draw comparisons to the two teams.
Vander (Los Angeles, CA)
Which team in the Big East will be the toughest matchup for the 2-3 zone this season?
Jim Boeheim (3:19 PM)
That's a good question. It's hard to say right now. West Virginia and Villanova are very good teams right now. Both have been picked to win the league and both look really strong right now.
Mike S (CT)
Jim, you've helped to produce many great collegiate and pro players in your career. Who was your best player who, for whatever reason, never made it to the NBA?
Jim Boeheim (3:20 PM)
That's a hard question. You never know who is going to make it. Some guys surprise you and make the NBA while others you think will make it don't. I wouldn't pick out any one guy. You never can tell who's going to make it in the NBA.
Jon (NYC)
Coach, '04 Alum here. Congrats on 800! I was at the Garden for both wins and was obviously impressed with what you have done so far with this team. It seems like this is the best all around team you have had in the last ten years, being able to play inside and outside. Do you agree?
Jim Boeheim (3:21 PM)
I think this is the best team we've had in a couple years. We aren't at our best yet but we are getting there.
Bobby (Syracuse)
Jimmy how come Doug Gottlieb never gives syracuse respect no matter what?
Jim Boeheim (3:22 PM)
I don't have any idea. You're asking the wrong guy. (Laughing)
Matt (DC)
Do you think having Gerry and Greg on the staff will expedite the development of Scoop and Brandon?
Jim Boeheim (3:23 PM)
I think all the coaches are helping out our young guys. You have two guards on our staff with Gerry and Simms. It's great to have these guys around for the players to talk to because they have been through what these current players will go through.
Bob (Long Beach)
First off I'd just like to say GO ORANGE! What game on the schedule do think will be toughest game for Syracuse?
Jim Boeheim (3:24 PM)
(Laughing) The next game.
Todd (Nashville, TN)
Coach,This zone is the best zone I have ever seen Syracuse play. Ive been watching Cuse for 30 years and it has never been more active than this year. Do you agree?
Jim Boeheim (3:26 PM)
Well I think we've played good defense in years before. It's still early in the year so we have to see that we're able to do come Big East season.
Jim Boeheim (3:26 PM)
Thanks for all the great questions. I enjoyed chatting with you all.
