Bruce (2:03 PM)
Happy Holidays.. Watching a little AFA-Houston and excited about the bowls. It has been a chaotic week, so I'm ready to take your questions.
What are the odds of a major shakeup in the conferences in the next year? Pac10/Big10/Big12/Sec?
Bruce (2:06 PM)
A few weeks ago, I'd written that I thought the Pac-10 was poised to have a big 2010 because of all the good young QBs and skill talent, but that league has been a big disappointment thus far in bowl season.. I think the Big 12 could struggled because of the QBs that are moving on after this season. My hunch would be SEC/Pac-10; Big Ten, ACC, Big 12.
Andrew B. (Notre Dame, IN)
This question may not be appropriate at this time, but how will the Leach situation affect your book, is it dead?
Bruce (2:09 PM)
I honestly don't know what this means for that book project. So much is going on around that situation. It's impossible to say what may come next.I had just really started writing, but have a lot more work to do on it. It's scheduled to come out at the start of 2011.
letsgohokies (Memphis, TN)
Seriously, VT or TN in tonights game?
Bruce (2:10 PM)
I picked VT in the blog.. The Vols had been shaky on special teams all season and then lost their ST coordinator Eddie Gran.. not good timing considering you're facing the team most noted for special teams play in CF.
Michael F. (Birmingham, AL)
Is the Tex Tech job Art Briles's ?
Bruce (2:12 PM)
Not sure.. I know Tech people like him although he's had a couple of four win seasons in a row and he makes probably more money than they want to spend. Tommy Tuberville has been very vocal about lobbying for the job. Ruffin McNeill should get a long look and I think Sonny Dykes will get some consideration.
elvis (ATL Ga.)
Can anyone stop Da' Rick Rogers in te UA AA bowl?
Bruce (2:13 PM)
Apparently no one could yesterday at practice.
Matt (B'ham, AL)
How about that Bowling Green/Idaho game?! Such drama, and what about that WR for BG...155 catches in one year?!? Is he an NFL prospect or is it just a product of the system they run?
Bruce (2:18 PM)
It was one of the best games I've seen all month. Freddie Barnes had been lighting up defenses all season and with production like that you know he'll get a chance.. people tried to dismiss Greg Jennings from the MAC a few years ago and he's been a good pro WR too.
You wrote recently that the UGA program is in a "tailspin". Really? Granted this year we stunk. But we still won 10 in 2008 in a 'down' season. A new DC and better QB and we're a top 10 team. Don 't you think you were overstating a bit?
Bruce (2:21 PM)
Yes, I do.. bad year..but they still did win 21 in the previous two years. The new DC has to get them fixed up to make them top 10.
Jack (Athens, GA)
Who is facing the biggest coaching distraction tomorrw: Cincy or UF?
Bruce (2:23 PM)
I feel like Cincy because at least the head coach is there.
No sugar coated answers: 1. How bad was Miami's loss Tuesday? 2. Is Randy Shannon the man for the job?
Bruce (2:25 PM)
It was a bad loss. They got crushed on both lines. Wisconsin played well. Love their tight ends and I was impressed by Scott Tolzien.Jacory Harris didn't look like himself. He was just shaky. I still think Shannon's the right guy for the job, but it's been two steps forward, one step back all season. Their O-line really has been a big disappointment.
Losing Golden Tate and Jimmy Clausen hurts Notre Dame big time. Over/under 4 wins for them next year?
Bruce (2:26 PM)
Over!.. I'd set the O/U at 8. I think Dayne Crist will be very good and Mike Floyd is terrific.
Bob (Newark, NJ)
Can Greg Schiano finally get to a BCS game in the next year or two?
Bruce (2:28 PM)
Maybe. I like Tom Savage and Mo Sanu but they lose a bunch of solid linemen.
which coach in college football has the best golf game?
Bruce (2:30 PM)
I know Spurrier's pretty good. There was a Clemson assistant I'm blanking on Jack something who I heard was terrific. Jack Hines?
Randy (St. Paul)
The Insight bowl has to be one of the worst to be in since its the only shown on the NFL network right? Anyways you do you got Minnesota or Iowa State?
Bruce (2:31 PM)
I took Minnesota. I'm exactly sure why to be honest.
Bruce (2:34 PM)
Some of you are asking me about certain editorial decisions. It's not my decision to make and it's not appropriate for me to weigh in on it. Sorry.
Frank (Fort Lauderdale)
FSU just got Matt Elam to switch from UF. Are you amazed with the job Jimbo is doing on the recruiting trail with only half of his staff currently recruiting and what are your thoughts on Elam?
Bruce (2:36 PM)
It'll be a huge pick-up for FSU if he signs. He's been the guy Urban's been the most hands-on with thru the recruiting process. One offensive coach I know has said he thinks the two best prospects in the entire country are Elam and DB Demar Dorsey.Jimbo made a GREAT hire by grabbing Eddie Gran. He has those relationships with those Dywer kids and a lot of blue-chippers in SF. Things are looking up if youre a Noles fan.
how about that Mountain West Conference!! woot woot
Do you think Jordan Jefferson is really the future for LSU, or were people to quick to judge J. Lee? He was thrown into a bad situation in my opinion.
Bruce (2:37 PM)
I like JJ, and I think he's been hindered some because they've been so depleted at RB. Been kind of a disappointing season I think for LSU.. underwhelming given what seems like a lot of talent.
After watching Nebraska crush Arizona, it seems to me that the fact Texas nearly lost to Nebraska shouldn't be a big deal. Do you think Texas looks alot better after that great performance by Nebraska?
Bruce (2:39 PM)
I thought the same thing last night. One of my buddies remarked as we were on the phone during the A&M-UGA game that it convinced him more than ever that Bama would roll Texas. Not so sure of that.
Steve (Sun City, Ca.)
The Trojans and Matt Barkley looked good in the post season, but then they always do. Next year do they play for a championship or lose 2 or 3 to the pac 10?
Bruce (2:40 PM)
Not sure.. Team has to mature a lot. They seemed really unfocused. It does help that they'll get most of their toughest games at home in 2010 though.. I could see 10-2.
you cam out in your blog with your early 2010 heisman candidates. J. Quiz was number 1, Dion Lewis was number 8.after thier bowl games, in which Quiz was shut down against an average run defense, and Dion Lewis looked like a god among men (taking away his fumble on the 1) against what was a top ten run defense. if you had to come out with a new list, how far would Lewis climb, and how far would Quiz drop?
Bruce (2:41 PM)
Not sure..I'm not bailing on the Quiz bandwagon so fast. Give credit to BYU who came with one of the most dominating performances we've seen in a bowl so far.
Ben (Lincoln, NE)
I bet you couldn't have enjoyed last nights Holiday Bowl any more than I did. Anyway, what are your thoughts on the outlook for the 2010 Husker squad?
Bruce (2:42 PM)
Impressed.. I think Jared Crick will pick up a lot of the slack from Suh and the offense should continue to develop.. They've got to do a better job of taking care of the ball.. I think Bo Pelini has them on the right track.
What do you think of the Ducks' chances at a national title in 2010? This really seems like their year.
Bruce (2:43 PM)
They're going to have a decent shot but they have to go to USC and OSU next year.
Bruce, Less impressive bowl performance thus far: PAC-10 or ACC?
Bruce (2:44 PM)
Mike (Livonia, MI)
Been trying to get this answered ALL WEEK! Cameron Newton - where's he ending up? Aub, MissSt, KState, Oklahoma, other??? C'mon, we're twitter pals! HA
Bruce (2:45 PM)
My guess is Miss State, because of the Mullen offense.
Bruce - great work, love the blog. Everyone is picking my Tide to roll, it's downright terrifying. At any rate, do you think the size, speed and physicality of the Bama D is too much for Texas?
Bruce (2:47 PM)
Thanks! I don't think it's been a rout. UT has a lot of athletes too and McCoy is an experienced run-pass threat with speedy receivers. The big key is the UT O-line. Nationally I feel like a lot of people underestimated how good the NU D is. The Huskers don't have a Ro McClain but their front is as good as there is.
Kevin (New York)
Where are your picks?
Bruce (2:47 PM)
They're in the blog that I think has gotten posted already.
Bruce (2:48 PM)
Wow, Case Keenum just threw his fourth INT. I knew the AFA D was good but didn't think it would play this well.
Paul (Sacramento, CA)
Ronald Powell..USC or Florida??
Bruce (2:49 PM)
Heard he was bound for UF but that was before all of the uncertainty with whether Urban Meyer will come back to UF in the future.
Kurtis Smith (Murfreesboro, TN)
Who is going to have a better running back carrier at Bama? Mark Ingram or Trent Richardson?
Bruce (2:50 PM)
That's like me picking a game when the team I would've picked is already down 17-0 to start the second quarter.
I love that the MWC is letting its performance speak for itself this year. No whining, no complaining, just win after win. How big a deal would it be if they ran the table in the bowl season?
Bruce (2:50 PM)
It would be a heck of a statement. No doubt.
Clay (Oakland, CA)
Has Dave Christensen's name come up regarding the vacant Texas Tech job?
Bruce (2:51 PM)
Not that I'd heard.
John (Fort Worth)
Fiesta- close one or blow-out?
Bruce (2:52 PM)
I like TCU, 23-14.
German R (Corvallis, OR)
After a disapointment with how the Beavers lost thier bowl game and so near to the Rose bowl for a secound year, What are your predications for the future of Beaver Football ?
Bruce (2:53 PM)
I think they win 9 or 10 in 2010.. The Rodgers brothers are back and so is the heart of the D. I'd heard a lot about Ryan Katz' arm and man, was that impressive to see him fire it late against BYU. If he can avoid a lot of picks, they should be a top 20 team.
What does it say about TCU when their opponents are about to go 6-0 in Bowl Games?
Bruce (2:55 PM)
Didn't know that. Great stat. I'm going to Tweet that right now.
Bruce (2:55 PM)
Bruce (2:55 PM)
3 more questions.
Russell (Everett, WA)
what would a big time program have to offer to lure chris petersen away from boise?
Bruce (2:56 PM)
Not sure. He seems very happy there and he's also seen that leaving the blue turf doesn't always go so well.
John (Aiken, SC)
Just wanted your opinion on Clemson's QB Kyle Parker. Dabo is confident he's coming back. Do you see him putting up huge numbers in 2010? If WRs cooperate.
Bruce (2:58 PM)
Impressive young QB. He's some athlete. He should be the QB of a top 10 team before he leaves there.
Blake (Abilene, TX)
Your opinion? Is Urban on the sideline next year?
Bruce (3:01 PM)
My guess is yes, but I think the only people who have any inkling of an answer would be Urban and his wife.. This whole thing is weird because it's very awkward for us in the media to be delving into a guy's health and views on family, etc. Although since he's been pretty open about talking about it the night before his press conference, it's hard to get around.
Bruce (3:02 PM)
Thanks for all of the questions. If I didn't get to yours send it to me via Twitter at BFeldmanESPN. Happy New Year!
