Tim Graham (3:03 PM)
Good afternoon from the Super Bowl media center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. I just got into a heated confrontation with a bodyguard for Kevin James, of all people. Where else can that happen?
Tim Graham (3:03 PM)
Let's get started with some Super Bowl and AFC East talk ... or whatever else you can think of.
Robb (Colorado)
What are the chances BMarsh ends up in NE? Welker might be gone for a while and Moss is about washed up. What do you think it would take to get him from Denver?
Tim Graham (3:05 PM)
I doubt the Patriots are interested. Randy Moss is coming of a pretty good season. His numbers were right on his career average. As for Wes Welker's absence, that would have no impact on interest in Brandon Marshall. They play different roles. Julian Edelman will handle that.
Buffalo Pete (Canada)
Do the Bills take a serious look at brohm this offseason?
Tim Graham (3:06 PM)
I'm sure Chan Gailey will give Brian Brohm a hard look. Gailey is a quarterbacks guru, and he'd love nothing more than to be the guy who unlocks the potential everybody once saw in Brohm.
Brian (Syracsue)
Know you have better things to do in Miami, but how important is getting a nose tackle going to be for the Bills? That and Offensive tackle have to be 1-2 on the priority list in the draft. They have some piece they can plug in at linebacker for the 3-4.
Tim Graham (3:07 PM)
Nose tackle has become the second- or third-biggest priority now that we know they're moving to a 3-4. Nose tackle is the keystone to that system. Let's not forget the importance of finding a quarterback.
Tim Graham (3:08 PM)
You can see all of the ESPN predictions here: http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/10190/see-our-predictions-on-super-bowl-xliv
Tim Graham (3:09 PM)
I like the Colts to cover. Although I need to check in with my son today. He's 2-0 against the spread. He'll be 4 years old next month, but we have a system. I show him the Sports Illustrated preview issue and he points to a picture. Highly scientific.
Dan (San Diego)
Who do you think each AFC East team will pick in the first round of the draft?
Tim Graham (3:10 PM)
Not a clue. Draft boards in early February don't look anything like draft boards in late April. We need to see what each team does in free agency before we know how they're going to lean in the draft.
Tarek (NYC)
Being doing this for more than a week now, name the best 5 qb's you have ever seen play and thanks!
Tim Graham (3:11 PM)
Since I became a sportswriter: Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, John Elway, Warren Moon, Joe Montana (might be higher but I covered him late in his career).
Tim Graham (3:12 PM)
I reserve the right to change any list done off the top of my head.
Jimmy (Arlington)
Sanchez or Henne?
Tim Graham (3:12 PM)
That one can either way. But I'll go with Mark Sanchez.
Chris C. (Greensboro, NC)
Are the Jets hands tied this offseason? Being in the final four means that they can't sign a free agent until they lose one, but they have none of significance. Furthermore, if they do lose let's say Thomas Jones, then they cant sign a free agent to a bigger contract than the free agent they lost. If that's the case, they won't be able to get a quality free agent this offseason. What do you think of the rule?
Tim Graham (3:14 PM)
The Final Eight rule that you're referring to deals only with players whose contracts are expiring this year and NOT players who are released. So the Jets can't cut players to make way for incoming unrestricted free agents, but they can sign as many players who've been cut without restrictions.
Tarek (NYC)
Thanks Tim! But wow no Dan the man! I'm shocked!
Tim Graham (3:15 PM)
One of the first games I covered was when he shredded his Achilles.
Avi (Boston)
Why dont you have your chat as often as all the other bloggers do?
Tim Graham (3:15 PM)
We all do it once a week.
Jim Kelly (East Aurora)
Warren Moon? What about me?
Tim Graham (3:17 PM)
Here come the whiners that I wasn't able to come up with a comprehensive list in 23 seconds. If it makes you feel better, I'll put Kelly on it.
Sean (Philly)
Avi must get out of work early most Friday's.
TSM (San Diego)
Tim, Don Coryell in the HOF! Think it will happen?! Think it SHOULD happen?
Tim Graham (3:18 PM)
He revolutionized the game. I'm all for it.
Tommy (1940's)
Hey Tim, seaaaaa. Whats going on down there and Florida? Looks like the Saints O' is doing the jittabug while everyone else is doing the charleston??!
Tim Graham (3:19 PM)
Why I oughta ...
Jake (Cleveland)
Dan Marino was the greatest passer I've ever seen, but Peyton is the best quarterback I've seen. Do you believe there can be a distinction between best passer and qb?
Tim Graham (3:20 PM)
If you want to get into semantics, sure. "Quarterback" entails leadership skills and a certain panache.
Ed Hochuli (Chat Ref)
Kelly, quit whining. You're in the Hall of Fame for cryin out loud. That's 15 yards for acting like a baby, and it remains 1st down
Derek (Pittsburgh)
Get some golf tips from Nicky Faldo?
Tim Graham (3:21 PM)
No, but I told him I loved his work in the "Raiders of the Lost Ark" series.
DJ (home)
OK maybe it's just me but what happened with kevin james body guard??
Tim Graham (3:24 PM)
Well, James is a huge Jets fan. I introduced myself and asked if I could get his take on the season, just for fun. He agreed. The bodyguard cut me off while we were walking. I followed behind until James got to his seat at the next radio stop. He was signing autographs and agreed to continue the interview. James was in the middle of an answer and the bodyguard karate chopped my forearm, which was outstretched with a microphone. I explained that James agreed to the interview, and the bodyguard turned into a tough guy. So I got in his face.
Kevin James (Ft Lauderdale)
Why the heck do i have a bodyguard?
buffalo Pete (Canada)
how many questions do you usually received during a chat?
Tim Graham (3:24 PM)
It varies. During the season it can be over a thousand. So far today, we've had 115.
Brad (Boston)
Did you ask Kevin James if he'll ever do anything funny?
Tim Graham (3:25 PM)
No, just Jets questions. I thought those were humorous enough.
Brian (New Jersey)
Recently read that the Jets may be interested in signing a player from the CFL. Could the Jets sign him without restrictions or would they need to lose a player first (final 8 rule)
Tim Graham (3:27 PM)
Great question I don't know the answer to. I'm guessing, but I would think they can sign him without restrictions. The Final Eight rule deals with free agents whose contracts are expiring. But I haven't seen a specific reference to players who aren't in the league. The rules for the uncapped year don't always follow logic.
DJ (home)
And yet another great super bowl story is born!
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Come on, Brad, "The King of Queens," was funny and was on the air for a long time.
Paul Kuharsky (AFC South)
The bodyguard turned into a tough guy. So *I* got in his face and slammed him to the ground. Only the facts, Graham.
bill (fairfax, va)
was the bodyguard dressed as a mall cop?
Tim Graham (3:28 PM)
He was right out of central casting. Typical goon.
Ingrid (UOP)
I love Somaons!! R there any good Somoan players in this years draft?
Tim Graham (3:29 PM)
I'm partial to the Tagalongs.
Avi (Boston)
What do you think the Dolphins can get in a return for a trade of Joey Porter?
Tim Graham (3:31 PM)
Not much. My guess is he'll get cut.
Brian (New Jersey)
Will you post the Kevin James interview on the AFC Blog
Tim Graham (3:31 PM)
I will. He was a nice guy. I'm not upset with him at all.
John Bender (here)
Tim, does Barry Manilow know that you raided his wardrobe?
Tim Graham (3:32 PM)
He laid these clothes out for me.
Bo (Thibodaux, La)
did my question exceed the character amount Tim?
Tim Graham (3:32 PM)
No. You do have any character. So don't worry about it.
Slim (S.F.)
Do all the bloggers hang out together in Miami? Couldn't imagine hanging with Sei-fart
Tim Graham (3:33 PM)
I'm guessing you're the kind of guy who eats his own boogers.
Roger (New Orleans)
Who dat? Is that the same as GUESS WHO!
Tim Graham (3:34 PM)
Better that than Bachman Turner Overdrive.
Derek (Pittsburgh)
How do you feel about Ilya Kovalchuk to the Devils?
Tim Graham (3:36 PM)
Probably the last place I would picture him landing. When was the last time they had a sniper? Guys like that go into Lamoriello's system and get short-circuited. How about the Leafs getting busy with Giguere and Phaneuf? Those were a couple of blockbusters.
Tommy (1940's)
Mr Graham! Mr. Graham! Can ya give us the scoop on Florida? Did you see any Miami flappa girls down there??
Tim Graham (3:36 PM)
Stop cracking wise, you!
Matt (IN)
Did you ever see those guys, Tim? BTO, that is. There's a reason people called them Bachman Turner Overweight
Tim Graham (3:37 PM)
When I still lives in Cleveland, I stumbled into a bar in the Flats one night. They were playing. For free. To about 14 people.
Chris (NC)
Never thought I'd see a hockey comment here...
Tim Graham (3:38 PM)
First time? We talk hockey often in here.
Hoyt (Pittsburgh)
How's Marcus Stroud gonna do in this new defense? Should we see any improvement from Maybin?
Tim Graham (3:39 PM)
I had a good talk with Channing Crowder today about the Bills' defense because he's tight with George Edwards and underwent the transformation to a 3-4 a couple years back. He thinks Stroud can be a star in the Bills' system.
Tim Graham (3:39 PM)
Here's a link to the blog post I wrote after talking with Crowder: http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/10200/crowder-gives-bills-fans-sneak-d-preview
Avi (Boston)
How could you like Crowder after he was on Porters side?
Tim Graham (3:41 PM)
I don't like or dislike anybody for their opinions. I'd like to think I'm a tolerant person. Besides, I don't have a rooting interest in any team. I'm just a gatherer of information.
Moe (Stockton)
AFC West Blogger William Williamson went to Chico State. Can you take him in a drink off?
Tim Graham (3:42 PM)
I'm confident in my abilities regardless of who you put in front of me.
Jimbo (Brooklyn)
Hey Tim, Haven't heard much on Jenkins recovery recently. Any news?
Tim Graham (3:43 PM)
Kris Jenkins did some interviews after the season and said he was doing OK.
Matt (IN)
Did you go over and see The Who's press conference?
Tim Graham (3:44 PM)
Kevin Seifert and I caught the last few minutes of it. We saw them do "Won't Get Fooled Again." Appropriately enough, we walked straight to the NFL Players Association news conference from there.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Is your hand sore from signing for all of the autograph hounds on South Beach?
Tim Graham (3:45 PM)
No autographs, but I had somebody tell me I was a lot taller than I look in my blog picture. That's the third time someone has said that to me. I'm still baffled by that.
Bo (Thibodaux, La)
You're so insightful and informative that I find it incredulous that you don't have your own show. Now go look up sarcasm
Tim Graham (3:46 PM)
Right. Because sarcasm is a foreign concept to me. Go look up irony.
Brian (Orlando, FL)
Who is the biggest non-sports related celebrity that you've met in Miami so far?
Tim Graham (3:47 PM)
I haven't really met any other than Kevin James, but in the media center I've seen Usher, Jamie Foxx, Adam Sandler, Rob Schieder, David Spade, Chris Rock, Miss America, Andy Rooney ...
Jimbo (Brooklyn)
Admit it Tim. Sanchez makes you weak in the knees just like Mike Greenberg...
Tim Graham (3:48 PM)
Why would you think Mike Greenberg makes me weak in the knees?
Tim Graham (3:50 PM)
Either "See Me, Feel Me" or "Eminence Front."
Brian (Orlando, FL)
It's ironic that Jimbo mentions Sanchez and weak knees in the same sentence.......
Emily (Mass)
That's a lot of moderately funny people in one room. You must have felt right at home.
Tim Graham (3:51 PM)
I want to know if there's a prerequisite that all comedians be tiny. Adam Sandler was the tallest at about 5-9.
Tim Graham (3:51 PM)
I'm guessing, of course. I don't have comedian trading cards to look at.
Seamus (Braintree, MA)
Have you had your 2v2 basketball game yet with the bloggers?
Tim Graham (3:51 PM)
It hasn't come to past. I've laid eyes on Pat Yasinskas once all week.
Joe (Buffalo)
Conan is freakishly tall
Tim Graham (3:52 PM)
As are Leno and Letterman. Maybe late-night hosts obliterate the paradigm.
Sean (NJ)
Hi Tim sorry so late but is there any trade bait out there for joey porter I doubt we just release him right?
Tim Graham (3:54 PM)
I think he gets cut. Big contract. Big baggage. Bad season.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Spade and Schneider's blog pictures would actually be life-sized.
Tarek (NYC)
Howard Stern is also really Tall.
Tim Graham (3:54 PM)
See? Maybe it's a host thing.
Pat Yasinskas (NFC South)
You've been ducking me.
bill (buffalo)
Could you see Vince Wilfork going to buffalo?
Tim Graham (3:55 PM)
They'd have to overpay to get him. If Wilfork is able to hit the open market -- and I doubt the Patriots will allow that to happen -- I think Miami would be the frontrunner.
Eric (Virginia)
randy moss should get traded.....your thoughts?
Tim Graham (3:55 PM)
I disagree.
Jim (Palo Alto)
Hall of Fame predictions?
Tim Graham (3:57 PM)
Let's see ... We can put down Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith in ink. Dick LeBeau and Floyd Little are from the Senior Committee. That leaves one spot.
Tim Graham (3:58 PM)
This isn't my prediction, but I think that of the rest, Dermontti Dawson deserves it most.
Jim (Palo Alto)
Send Moss to the Raiders for a first rounder.
bill (buffalo)
Is Reed EVER going to the HOF? I think so.
Tim Graham (3:59 PM)
He will. But he'll have to wait for Cris Carter, Shannon Sharpe and maybe Tim Brown.
Al Davis (Oakland)
I don't want Moss. I'll take Benjarvus Green-Ellis instead.
bill (fairfax, va)
Gailey coached in Atlanta (Ga Tech) while Vick was there. Any connection? I hope not.
Tim Graham (4:00 PM)
That would be a Gong Show.
Jon H. (Alexandria, Va.)
Settle a bet: Who would the Browns be better off with next season as their starting QB: Quinn or Chad Pennington?
Tim Graham (4:01 PM)
Pennington cannot be signed to be a starting quarterback in the NFL next year. A backup with the chance to start? Yes. But he won't be signing somewhere as the starter, not when he's coming off a third shoulder surgery.
Tim Graham (4:02 PM)
We've gone at it for an hour. Let's take a few more and get on with our lives.
Sean (NJ)
What are the odds of the fins picking up a FA wide out to help out the O' or is it still build in the trenches and D' time in Miami
Tim Graham (4:03 PM)
I think the Dolphins will work hard to get a receiver either through free agency or a trade. They know that's a critical missing piece.
bill (buffalo)
Chances of vick to buffalo.
Tim Graham (4:05 PM)
31 percent
Emily (Mass)
That was a bet with me you settled. Your editors can now go back to debating Star Wars vs. LOST and quoting Rocky movies.
Tim Graham (4:05 PM)
Sounds like a wonderful afternoon you're having.
Brian (New Jersey)
Are than any prominant players from AFC East teams that may get released this offseason?
Tim Graham (4:07 PM)
Adalius Thomas, Joey Porter, Channing Crowder ...
Clubber Lang (via mobile)
My prediction for Emily is....PAIN!
D. William Parcells (Miami)
I disagree, Tim. I think there is a 17.9% chance that Vick goes to Buffalo. But there's also a 100% chance that if he does, we will pummel him.
Tim Graham (4:09 PM)
Thanks for dropping by, everybody. I'm going back out on Radio Row to see if I can stir up more trouble.
Tim Graham (4:10 PM)
See you next Friday.
Dan (NorCal)
Tim, in one of your earlier chats, someone asked you who the worst Dolphins QB was and you answered something other than "Ray Lucas." '02 Dolphins were a powerhouse and he single-handledly killed the season. Explain yourself.
Tim Graham (4:12 PM)
This question came in before I could sign off ... My answer was Cleo Lemon. I stand by that.
