Bill Williamson (2:03 PM)
Hi everyone, let's get rolling.
Bri (San Diego, CA)
Bill, you and I slightly disagree on your assessment of the Kiper/McShay Mock Draft as it relates to the Chargers. Seems like the better pick for SD is to go with Terence Cody, since a 350 lb. nose tackle is a limited resource while a RB is not. It's huge that they have the 40th pick because they can get the RB there - Best, Matthews, Dwyer, Gerhart, Blount...they could all still be available. Thoughts?
Bill Williamson (2:04 PM)
I think we agree. That's where I'd go -- Cody at No. 28 and a RB at No. 40.
Dennis (Ashburn, VA (RAIDER NATION EAST!))
Why do you, Bill, and so many other ESPN folks down play Bruce Gradkowski's potential to lead the Raider offense? The team rallied around him last season, and he clearly wants to be a Raider. I think his skills make him a better option than Jason Campbell, and his age and desire make him a better option than McNabb.
Bill Williamson (2:07 PM)
I'm not that down on Gradkowski. I think he is the best option in house and I love his spunk. But he has limitations. He's a journeyman. I think the Raiders would be fooling themsleves if they think he's anything more than a short-term answer. Since theya r elooking into other QBS, it's clear they feel they same way,
Nick Johnson (KC )
Do you think the Chiefs would go after Jordan Shipley in the Second Round?
Bill Williamson (2:08 PM)
I could see it. Denver likes him too.
Bill if the rumors are true about the possible Albert Haynesworth trade could you see the Raiders making an attemp at the big man?
Bill Williamson (2:09 PM)
The Raiders love big name and they have a need there. Sure, I wouldn't be shocked. The Raiders have been too quiet. I'm waiting for them to strike big.
Coy (Oceanside, CA)
I asked this over at your mailbag, but does a Jason Campbell and Albert Haynesworth for Nnamdi Asomugha and a 4th Round Pick make sense for either the Raiders or Redskins?
Bill Williamson (2:11 PM)
It's interesting,. I know Shanahan would do it in a minute. He loves Nnamdi. But I'd hate to see Oakland give him up.
Jason (Parker, CO)
Curious if you think that getting Alphonso Smith was worth giving up the broncos 1st rounder from this year? Or would they have been better off just using it this year?
Bill Williamson (2:15 PM)
So far, it looks like a terrible deal. Just terrible. he was replaced by an unrafted rookie last year and Denver signed a nickel CBthis offseason. It's early but it's looks like a bad deal right now.
Bobby (San Diego)
How much of a need at nose tackle? Chargers have bingham, nwagbuo, johnson, boone, castillo, cesaire, and martin to fill in these positions... would chargers be better off taking more of a pressing need?
Bill Williamson (2:17 PM)
It sets the tone for that defense. The Chargers really missed Jamal Williams last season.
Broncos GM (Greeley)
What do you think Bill? Marshall for rams second round pick. then trade it and a 3-4th rounder to Green Bay's 23rd pick. Get LB at #11, Cody at #23, and OL/WR in 2-4th rounds. For WR insurance sign TO for 1 yr.
Bill Williamson (2:18 PM)
Sounds like you have it all figured out. Nice job.
Do you think that with extra 3rd and maybe 2nd round picks next year, and the possibility of trading sproles or merriman, that the chargers would be willing to part with next year's first round pick to trade up for Dan Williams? Spiller is also a possibility but i dont think he is what the chargers need.
Bill Williamson (2:19 PM)
I could see A.J. Smith be very aggressive. A move like this wouldn't suprise me.
Nick Johnson (KC )
So are the Chiefs Really Considering Jared Gaither from the Ravens or is that just a Rumor????
Bill Williamson (2:20 PM)
Just a rumor at this time.
Chris (Sac Town)
What kind of yeard do you think Heyward-Bey will have in Oakland??
Bill Williamson (2:21 PM)
It can't be worse than last year, right? Any type of production would be nice.
Who makes the bigger immediate impact on the Chiefs to win games? Okung or Berry? And if Okung is gone Bulaga or Berry?
Bill Williamson (2:23 PM)
I'm a believer in the importance of great safety play. We've seen defenses completley turn around because of dominant safety play. I would love to see how Berry would affect the Chiefs' young defense.
Bill,Love your blog....Do you really think the broncos will settle for a 2nd or god forbid 3rd rounder for Marshall? Wouldn't they just be better off keeping him or just paying the man.
Bill Williamson (2:27 PM)
My column Friday addresses this subject. I think he goes for a package of a second and perhaps a conditional pick.
Bill, everyone has the Bronocs going McClain i think way to early for ILB- are they looking at Joe Haden?
Bill Williamson (2:28 PM)
I think McClain is perfect at 11. Impact guy. I'm not sure Dnever would go for a CB at No. 11. It has other pressing needs.
With the recent aqcuisitions in Free Agency and possible picks in the draft, do you see the KC Chiefs getting to 7 or 8 wins possibly (also, they have a decently easy schedule)...
Bill Williamson (2:29 PM)
I think that would be a good goal for the Chiefs.
Saul Garcia (San Diego, CA)
Bill, Recently AJ Smith hasn't made a big splash in free agency. I do like his philosophy of keeping things in house and building from the draft but at some point tinkering in Free Agency or with Trades could be the final piece to our puzzle. Do you think he could honestly do something big this year in a trade?
Bill Williamson (2:31 PM)
I think it will be draft related. I can see him moving up in the draft.
Schlomoe (San Diego)
Who takes the lead RB spot on Oakland, Bush or McFadden?
Bill Williamson (2:32 PM)
I think Oakland wnats to see McFadden take charge. i think it will be better off it both Bush and McFadden ran 15 times a game.
Hey Bill, love your blog first off I check it every day sometimes twice a day. What are your thoughts of the Raiders maybe trading a 2nd and 4th rounder to move up in the later part of the 1st round to get Jimmy Clausen if he happens to fall like Aaron Rodgers or Brady Quinn?
Bill Williamson (2:33 PM)
Thanks for the kind wods ... Or just take him at No. 8 and keep the other picks.
keith (Erie, pa)
What do you think of the chiefs picking rolondo mcclain if both berry and okung are gone, And they cant trade out of that positon(as they would like to do)?
Bill Williamson (2:34 PM)
I think a trade down would be likley in that situation.
Nate (El Paso, TX)
Bill, do you think the Chiefs brought in Charlie Weiss to take over for Todd Haley---after the latter presumably gets fired?
Bill Williamson (2:37 PM)
No, he is close with Haley. He was borught in to help Haley not replace.
ryan (Pueblo, CO)
What rookies has Denver been meeting with lately?
Bill Williamson (2:38 PM)
Among those who are visiting are Gerhart and Shipley.
Million (San Diego)
I have to disagree with Bri, i believe that san diego needs to jump on the oppurtunity to take either Ryan Mathews or Jahivd Best. Because i believe Cody will be there with the 40th.
Bill Williamson (2:40 PM)
If Mathews is there, it could be a tough decision.
Bill,When if ever, will Big Al finally realize he needs a GM? Bruce Allen was the last good thing that happened to the Raiders as far as drafting goes.
Bill Williamson (2:42 PM)
I don't see it happening. He would have hired someone if he wanted to.
Wayy (Berkeley, CA)
If the Raiders draft Clausen, do you think they will instantly be a better team next year?
Bill Williamson (2:43 PM)
That is a lot to ask for from a rookie.
Jared (Phoenix, AZ)
Bill, who makes the playoffs first, Josh McDaniels' Broncos or Mike Shanahan's Redskins? My money is on Shanahan.
Bill Williamson (2:44 PM)
Will the Raiders make a play for a new running back? They dumped Fargas and I don't see DMC or Bush being the premier back
Bill Williamson (2:45 PM)
I could see Oakland get drafting a RB in the mid-rounds
What are your thoughts....Jimmy Clausen with the #5 overall and Golden Tate with the Chiefs early 2nd round pick? Both being reunited with Charlie Weis in KC? Sounds good right?
Bill Williamson (2:46 PM)
I think Tate in the seocnd round is a better bet.
Hey Bill do you think its possible for the chiefs to take Eric Berry First,Golden Tate Second, then trade the secound pick in the Second round to get Jared Gaither?
Bill Williamson (2:47 PM)
I think that would be a pretty good production out of the firs two rounds.
Could the Bengals be a landing spot for Tony Scheffler? What is Den's asking price and is Scheffler an adequate blocker? I know his receiving skills are primo. Thanks Bill!
Ray Ray (Maryland)
If the Raiders were to draft Jimmy Clausen, do you believe he is player that could start right away, or would need to learn on the sidelines?
Bill Williamson (2:49 PM)
They'd probably take a third or fourth-round pick.
Bill Williamson (2:49 PM)
On Clausen, I think he'd start pretty early. Oakland wouldn't take him to sit him. It needs better QB play right away.
Ryan (San Diego)
Hey Bill with the addition of a nose tackle and good running back in the draft, do you think San Diego will take the AFC and make it the super bowl? What other areas do you think they need improvement in to make that happen?
Bill Williamson (2:51 PM)
Asking rookies to be difference makers for a Suepr Bowl team right away is a tall task. But if the running back can provide instant help, it will go a long way for this team.
Shakoor (New Jersey)
Do you think Rolando Mcclain will fall to the giants at 15th?
Nick (San Diego)
Who Do you think is better between Jahvid Best and ryan Mathews in regards to san diego.
Bill Williamson (2:52 PM)
I thinK Denver may take him at No. 11.
Bill Williamson (2:52 PM)
Mathews may be a better fit because of his size.
Bill, with saying Smith is a flop in Denver, then Joe Haden has to be a consideration at 12?
Bill Williamson (2:53 PM)
Maybe, but thee are more pressing needs.
I'm a Charger fan from Boise, ID, and I'm wondering what you see in the future for my boy Legedu Naanee. Can he be a productive slot WR in an increasingly pass-first offense?
Bill Williamson (2:54 PM)
Yes, the Chargers like him a lot. He is already a solid contributor.
What is the % chance Okung falls to the Chiefs and they actually draft him?
Bill Williamson (2:55 PM)
I think Okung goes to Washington at No. 4.
kevin (South Carolina)
When will Oakland draft a real QB
Bill Williamson (2:57 PM)
Maybe in a couple of weeks.
Joe Wilson (Jackson Ms )
Is the broncos still trading b.Marshall if so why ain't the 49ers n Seahawks all over this?
Bill Williamson (2:58 PM)
The Seahawks are still very interested.
Ryan S (Plainville, CT)
Seeing Tebow getting drafted by the Raiders would make a lot of sense...ask LOUIS MURPHY!
Bill Williamson (2:59 PM)
It would be cool to see him in the Silver and Black, wouldn't it?
Bill Williamson (3:00 PM)
Great hour everyone, talk to you next week.
