Terry Blount (2:00 PM)
Cup at the quarter pole. What's the biggest surprise so far? Kahne to Hendrick? JJ-Gordon feud? What are your thoughts after the thrilling Dega race?
Is it just me or is there more people excited for the truck race this weekend?! No Kyle or Kevin!!!!!! Woohooo!!!!!!
Terry Blount (2:00 PM)
Amen to that. Trucks and NW without Cup stars works for me.
Rocco (Pahrump, NV)
With all this talk about ending sprint cup losing streaks when do you expect Kyle Busch to win another cup race? Seems like a really long time since Kyle has won a cup race.
Terry Blount (2:01 PM)
I wouldn't be surprised to see Kyle win Saturday night at Richmond.
Big Worm (Cali)
Why wouldn't anyone go with junior at the end of the race? And can he even get to victory lane this year?
Terry Blount (2:04 PM)
Who goes with whom at the end at Dega is strictly a game of chance. And I do believe Jr. will win somewhere this year. The team is improving. He's usually good at Richmond, so Saturday might be his spot.
Kyle seems to be points racing in Cup and using NW/trucks for his "win fix". Any thoughts?
Terry Blount (2:05 PM)
Tht's true to an extent. He has nothing to lose in NW and trucks. But Kyle and wised up and learned not to push the car beyond its limits in a Cup race.
How long will Biffle stay near the top of the standings without winning a race?
Terry Blount (2:06 PM)
He could do it all season. Winning isn't a major requirement with this points system, but it does help your seeding at the start of the Chase.
Jeremy (Port Angeles, WA)
What is your take on the Izod Indycar series having Oval Champion & Road
Terry Blount (2:07 PM)
It's OK, although the best driver in each discipline usually it's obvious. I can tell yout this: Danica won't win the road racing title.
Who is your dark horse for Saturday night? Casey Mears perhaps.
Terry Blount (2:10 PM)
Uhh, no. That's an extreme longshot with the car he has, not a darkhorse. My darkhorse would be Hornish, who finished in the top 10 in both RIR races last year, but even he's pretty much a longshot.
Where is Clint Bowyer's respect?!?!
Terry Blount (2:10 PM)
I think Clint has respect, but a few more wins would give him more respect.
Mike (Star City, W.Va.)
Terry: I saw where the 71 and Bobby Labonte was fairly competitive last week and had a chance for a Too 10. Any chance that Labonte has anything left and could wind up with a competitive team after this season like Mark Martin has done or has his ship sailed
Terry Blount (2:11 PM)
Not much chance Mike. And don't read too much into Dega results. When 29 drivers lead a lap, it means almost anyone can win there, but it sure was fun to watch.
Jeremy (Port Angeles, WA)
When do you see Danica in nascar full time?
Terry Blount (2:12 PM)
2012 if it happens at all.
Any word on Brads penalties?
Terry Blount (2:13 PM)
Not yet. Probably later this afternoon.
caster and camber (bahama, nc)
whats up TB? have you heard anything about brad keselowski's shocks, from his nationwide #12, being impounded by nascar after the race at 'dega? if so, why did they impound them and what do you think will be the outcome of this? thanks
Terry Blount (2:14 PM)
The spring rate was off, so NASCAR took them back to the R&D center. Some type of penalty probably will come today.
ely (state college, pa)
what are your thoughts on mercedes updating the car for schumacher for the european stretch of the schedule? i know he is "the man", but rosberg has outpointed him by 40 so far. wouldn't it make more sense to tailor the car for rosberg at this point?
Terry Blount (2:15 PM)
My guess is they will use some experimental stuff on Schumi's ride. If it works, they will use it on both cars.
Jeff (Oklahoma CIty)
My wife's on board for a Nascar road trip this year? I'm thinking the Brickyard 400 or Dega in November? Whats your take?
Terry Blount (2:16 PM)
If you're in it just for the on-track action, that's a no-brainer. It's Dega. But if you want to see one of racing's great venues, go to Indy.
do you think nascar well try again to come to seattle
Terry Blount (2:18 PM)
As a Pac NW resident, I don't see that happening anytime soon. ISC wanted millions of dollars in public money from a state that wouldn't put up the money to keep its NBA team, much less build a racetrack. NASCAR wants to be in the Seattle area, but the days of major public funding are long gone everywhere.
Andy (Dayton,Ohio )
Any comment on Harvick's "anonymous sources are crap" quote.
Terry Blount (2:19 PM)
Just Kevin being Kevin. He's more fun when he's surly.
Bobby (Midland Park )
Hi Terry can you ask Nascar if they can change the gear ratio at Pocono so these guys have to shift.
Terry Blount (2:20 PM)
I have a better idea. How about NASCAR move one race out of Pocono.
Hello terry. whats your top five for saturday and how do you like denny's chances back in his hometown?
Terry Blount (2:22 PM)
Denny races well at RIR, but I'm still not sure how well he'll do on a short track with the knee situation. Other contenders are JJ, Martin, Gordon, Kurt Busch and Kyle Busch, along with all three RCR drivers.
Terry, where do you think Kahne will be in 2011. Kahne going over to SHR for one season does not make much sense to me. Do you believe Rick & Kasey know something that we don't know in regards to Kahne's whereabouts for next year?
Terry Blount (2:23 PM)
I'm certain they know something we don't know. And I agree. Why would you move a guy twice, a man who just spent a fortune on as potential champion?
Do you think McMurray is turning into the new Michael Waltrip? He's run very well at plate tracks, and all but one of his wins have come at Daytona and Talladega...and he's on a team with a good plate program...
Terry Blount (2:24 PM)
Jamie would not be pleased with that comparison, but if the shoe fits ...
fort walton beach florida [via mobile]
whats jj deal i mean he did that to gordon his spotter say go outside and he goes inside a couple of guys should be ticked besides gordon what do you think?
Terry Blount (2:26 PM)
I think what happened Sunday was a typical Dega incident and not intentional. But I love this little feud. I like seeing Jeff get fired up and show some aggression. Maybe that's what he needs to get that elusive fifth title.
Joe (Waco, TX)
Any chance of AJ leaving Gillette? Maybe for Ragans seat at Roush?
Terry Blount (2:27 PM)
I know AJ is going to explore his options, as anyone would. In a way, that would be sort of an internal move within the Ford group.
Bobby (Midland Park Nj )
I am with you on moving one out of Pocono I gave up my July tickets to hot only June for me
Terry Blount (2:29 PM)
Honestly, I don't expect that to happen. The Frances and the Mattioli family have a close relationship. And Pocono remains the closest track to the NY market.
Rob F (Hoboken, NJ)
Much has been said and written about the current situation with JG and JJ. Do analyts and journos really think it'll boil into something serious? I don't see how it can considering they're not only teammates, but share the same shop.
Terry Blount (2:30 PM)
A lot of guys over the years have been teammates and not gotten along. I doubt this will become any big deal because Rick won't let that happen. But it's sure fun for the moment.
Whats with the NW only drivers? Bires gets fired, Townley gets benched, Braun gets benched, Stenhouse probably will get benched....all for Cup drivers!!!
Terry Blount (2:32 PM)
Sometimes its sponsor pressure, although Braun didn't have one. Sometimes the team owner just decides the driver doesn't have the potential to make it to Cup and gives up on him. In Bires case, I thought he deserved more time. It's sad, but it's a business.
Who's going to get the Budweiser sponsorship?
Terry Blount (2:33 PM)
Good question. Hard to say at this point, but I think the talk about not being able to go to Hendrick was premature.
Henry (Allentown, PA)
Why is Bobby Ginn listed as the car owner of Clint's #33?
Terry Blount (2:35 PM)
The listing I see still has Childress. Buyt owners often list other names, like wives or brothers or associates, for tax benefits.
Dave W. (Ukiah)
Terry, I am a big J.J. fan but a driver who is really starting to show me something is Scott Speed. Looks like the kid has some driving skills and a very magnetic personality to boot. Think Red Bull will give up on him like they did "The Dinger" or stick it out and give him a chance? I really like the kid and hope he sticks around...his personality fits in the garage.
Terry Blount (2:38 PM)
Scott has shown some promise this season, but it's hard to tell because Red Bull hasn't been as good as I expected. The same is true for MWR, the other Toyota team. Only JGR, which builds it's own engines, has raced well.
They always say team dominace works in cycles. Is that the case anymore? The way things are going with Hendrick he will own NASCAR in 3 years.
Terry Blount (2:40 PM)
Don't bet on it. No one stays on top forever. But Hendrick will compete for titles for a long time because the organizations and more money, therefore more resources and top people, than everyone else.
Barb (Naples, Fl)
Do you think Nascar drivers who have never won a Sprint Cup Championship deserve inclusion into the Nascar HOF? What about owners?
Terry Blount (2:41 PM)
Absolutely. Mark Martin is a prime example. Most owners will need a championship as a team owner, but not always.
Ginn is listed as the owner of the #33 from last year when the team was new and needed top 35 owners points and got them from Ginn after the DEI/Ganassi merger
Terry Blount (2:43 PM)
There ya go. but I think Richard is listed as the owner now.
A few years ago people said it was nuts to be a Nascar driver-owner. Now with Kyle, Harvick, Stewert, Robby, Jeff and Waltrip owning Nascar teams it seems like the way to go. What changed?
Terry Blount (2:44 PM)
Tony is the only one of those doing it and winning at the Cup level. Multi-car teams and alliances with super teams, as Tony has with Hendrick, make it easier to do successfully.
Matt (Staunton, VA)
In 2008 we saw Edwards and Kyle Busch rack up major wins. What has happened with those cars since?
Terry Blount (2:46 PM)
In Kyle's case, I think he and Dave still are trtying to figure out the chemistry. For Edwards, it's the fact that Ford is off a little from the past.
So Little Dale, M.Waltrip get in in 20-30 years?
Terry Blount (2:47 PM)
No. Neither of them, at the moment, is Hall worthy.
big ben (nc)
have you heard any monetary estimates about how much damage has been to cars with the multiple GWC this year?
Terry Blount (2:48 PM)
Not specifically, but it's huge. And the team owners make take a stance at some point to say: "We can't afford this."
Carlos (Sunrise, FL)
We like Sprint cup drivers in Nationwide and trucks cause they are the best Nascar drivers. Why all the negative comments about that? Wouldn't fewer fans watch those series without cup stars?
Terry Blount (2:50 PM)
Having a few Cup guys run a partial NW sked is OK. I understand that it helps sell tickets. But having them run the entire season and compete for the title, using better equipment from Cup team owners, is a travesty.
Where will Elliott Sadler end up next year?
Terry Blount (2:51 PM)
Probably somewhere that isn't conducive to winning.
Will there ever be a union for drivers to discuss issues like the GWC?
Terry Blount (2:52 PM)
Drivers tried to start a union years ago and failed miserably. I don't see it happening.
Does Kyle get in? One good season and no Cups says no. Being the master of the minors is not HOF worthy.
Terry Blount (2:54 PM)
Kyle has a long way to go in his career. He turns 25 on Sunday. Cup titles probably will come his way down the road.
Daniel (VALDOSTA, Ga.)
Terry, do you legitimately see anyone else but Jimmie Johnson hoisting the Sprint Cup this November in Miami?
Terry Blount (2:56 PM)
I still think Denny can challenge him if his knee is healthy in the fall. A lot can change over the summer. It's really about who can get hot in the Chase. Gordon could do it and so could Harvick. And I wouldn't count out Kurt Busch. But the odds are with JJ to win No. 5.
Daniel (VALDOSTA, Ga.)
Terry, now that they're repaving Daytona do you think it's going to turn out to be a lot like Talladega where set up isn't as big of a deal b/c of how smooth and grippy it is?
Terry Blount (2:57 PM)
Not entirely. Daytona is much narrower than Dega and the transition off the turns is sharper. Even with smooth pavement, you have to set-up the car differently than Dega.
Gene (Ross, Ohio)
How are t.v ratings this year?
Terry Blount (2:58 PM)
They're good, considering all the rain problems. Dega was way higher than the NBA playoffs.
Harvick rode around in the back all day until the last 50 laps. Last year he called Carl a "pansy" for doing that. So what's up with that?
Terry Blount (3:00 PM)
You live and learn. KH did what he had to do to win.
Terry Blount (3:01 PM)
Gotta run folks. Heading to Richmond in the morning for what should be a great Saturday night show. Take care. Peace.
