Doesn't Buffalo HAVE TO find a legitimate LT before the season starts? What are those clowns doing?
Jeremy Green (2:04 PM)
Hey Brad tell me how you really feel. LT is the biggest hole on their roster right now. This is a young and talented line inside but you are correct in that the tackle spots need addressed
Landon (Oakley, CA)
Whats up Jeremy? What direction do you think the Niners offense goes with the 2 new beasts on the offensive line? Do they go back to pounding the ball and away from the spread? Does this hurt Alex Smith?
Jeremy Green (2:06 PM)
they are going to pound the football... that is what mike Singletary wants to do on offense. As for Smith I don't think getting away from the spread will hurt him because he started to adapt last season and is playing with a lot more confidence. They will still use some of their spread stuff on definite passing downs.
Not to diss Faneca but is there a better spot for a O line rookie starter than between All Pros like Mangold and D'Brickashaw?
Jeremy Green (2:08 PM)
I agree Dexter. It was Faneca as the veteran that groomed Ferguson and Mangold and made them better players and now it is their turn as veterans who have become Pro Bowl guys to do the grooming. It is just a great pick and fit.
should i sign with the jags or go visit the fins?
Jeremy Green (2:10 PM)
I wish you would re-sign in New Orleans but that looks more and more like it won't happen. If I were sharper I would visit the fins. I would want to finish my career on teams that have a chance to be there in the end and Miami is a much better teams then Jacksonville.
JG with Jason Campbell learning so many different systems & having so many Off. Coordinators, would you consider his going to Oakland a step up/ step down/ or no change at all? Al Davis
Jeremy Green (2:11 PM)
I do not see a lot of change for him and you mention it Anthony... its another new system. I do think the Oakland offense will give him a chance to let him go vertical more which is one of his strong suits. I do see more big plays with Campbell at the helm but overall I think he struggles to be consistent as was the issue in Washington.
Jason (Santa Clara)
Does Crabtree have a break out year? Can Ginn help stretch the field? I loved what I saw from Crabtree, but I have my doubts if he can break long ones.
Jeremy Green (2:14 PM)
I think we do see the breakout season from Crabtree. I think the Ginn speed on the other side will open up the field for Crabtree and Morgan as well. Crabtree is not going to run by people but I still think he is a guy who because of his size and strength can take a short throw and house it.
Shane (Los Angeles, CA)
Could A. Thomas be a good fit with the Cardinals? They need depth at LB and he definitely could be used either at I or OLB.
Jeremy Green (2:16 PM)
Thomas would be a great fit in Arizona. I think he is the type of player that could maybe get them over the hump. Like you said Shane his versatility would be huge in their system.
Shane (Los Angeles, CA)
Mr. Green: What is your take on the Dez Bryant interview with Mr. Ireland? If the interview went down the way Miami says it did, suddenly the line of questioning doesn't seem so out of line. A reasonable person could see how that question came out, and if it is indeed the case, then the Cowboys drafted a drama queen in addition to a WR. Welcome to T.O. 2.0!
Jeremy Green (2:18 PM)
As a guy that worked in the league I can see where Ireland was coming from. You have to garner as much info as you can on these players. If it did indeed happen the way Miami said it did I don't have a problem with it.
Is Pat Angerer an odd pick for INDY in RD 2? I think he can eventually replace Brackett, but can they get him on the field anywhere but special teams in the mean time?Is he athletic enough to play OLB?
Jeremy Green (2:19 PM)
I thought it was a bit of an odd pick for them. I think he is a good player in the right system but as you mention with the lack of AA, he does not fit their mold of LB. They like smaller undersized athletic guys... I guess that is why the pick surprised me.
Have the Falcons done enough to really challenge the Saints in 2010?
Jeremy Green (2:21 PM)
I don't think they have but they still have a lot to work with. They need to be more efficient on offense and find a way for that defensive line to step up. This is still a very good team when their backs are healthy and Matt Ryan plays like the real Matt Ryan.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Speaking of odd picks, Toby Gerhart to the Vikings? Why, JG, why??
Jeremy Green (2:22 PM)
Funny JB. I can only say they did it based on the production. I am not a big Gerhart fan though. He runs very upright and does not make guys miss. He is not going to run through people at this level like he could in the Pac 10... not going to happen
I heard Tate is looking like our number 1 reciever and that would bump housh to 2 which he whould be awsome at, but is tate a legit number one right now?
Jeremy Green (2:23 PM)
Easy now... there has been one mini-camp. Other then maybe QB, WR is the toughest position to develop quickly as a rookie. He is going to contribute I think to their offense but I do not see Tate as a legit #1 as a rookie at least.
How good do you think CJ Spiller can be for the Buffalo Bills?
Jeremy Green (2:25 PM)
Eventually I think he will be a special player... they need to fix their offensive line play though, especially at the tackle spots.
Do you think Buffalo would be a good landing spot for Flozell Adams?
Jeremy Green (2:25 PM)
Be a great landing spot. I think the Bills should also be talking to the Saints about a Jamal Brown trade.
Craig (Omaha NE)
the UFL seems to be set upon a firm foundation with many fomer NFL coaches and personnal people employed, but to survie over the long haul they will need some kind of support/affiliaction with the NFL. WIll the NFL ever adopt/abosrb the UFL as a farm system to develop players? Thanks.
Jeremy Green (2:28 PM)
I agree Craig. My dad is coaching what was the SF team and is now Sacramento. The UFL is a good league. There were some good players that made the jump to the NFL and will compete for roster spots this season. I wish they would work more hand in hand though because it could be a nice developmental league for the NFL
JG, Do you think the Chargers will trade Shawne Merriman before the season?
Jeremy Green (2:30 PM)
I don't think so. I know he is not at the level he once was but I still look at him as a player you have to double which opens up other guys to play one one one. He is such an inspirational guy on that defense. I think he sticks and stays in San Diego.
Patrick (San Clemente, CA)
As a Charger fan, I'm concerned that they didn't do enough this offseason in order to play at the level they were at last season. Do you think that they drafted well enough and should they have made a better effort to get some established veterans in their need positions?
Jeremy Green (2:32 PM)
I don't have a lot of concerns with San Diego. I think they got what they needed in the draft by filling needs with quality talent. As far as adding veterans its not really in this teams nature, that is why AJ SMith has been so good at re-signing their own quality players which means they don't have to be active in free agency.
Ryan (San Diego)
Why do people love the Jets so much? They were a Peyton Manning playing all of week 16 away from missing the playoffs, they have a qb who is a question mark at best and they signed a bunch of knuckleheads. I must be missing something
Jeremy Green (2:33 PM)
Funny Ryan. I think the defense will only get better under Ryan. You have to think Sanchez will take his game to the next level. I would not say I am over high on this team but they are a contender in the AFC East to New England.
Do you think CJ Spiller has LT/Marshall Faulk type of skills or is he more of a Reggie Bush?
Jeremy Green (2:34 PM)
He is more Marshall Faulk then Reggie Bush. CJ can pound the rock between the tackles. He does not shy away from contact. I see him as a better every down option then Bush coming out.
Doug (San Jose, CA)
With the Boldin trade and the Raven's draft, do you expect them to win the AFC North? Also, when can we expect FIRED UP JG back on the podcast?
Jeremy Green (2:36 PM)
I loved the Boldin trade. I think he finally gives them that playmaker they have lacked at WR who can change a game. I think they are the favorites in the north especially with Ben out 6 games.
JG, why did the Eagles take Trevard Lindley without corner even being a big need. Samuels is great as usual and Hobbs should be fully recovered from injuries along with Joselio Hanson in the nickel and Dmitri Patterson available if someone goes down.
Jeremy Green (2:37 PM)
I think he is a guy they might try out at Safety first and then if it does not work move him back to corner... BTW... why aren't you in school?
Jeremy Green (2:37 PM)
PLaying hooky to chat with JG Huh?
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Jeremy: Just in case Mr. Favre decides surgery is not an option, do the Vikings have a plan in place that is better than watching Tavaris Jackson slog his way to an 8-8 season?
Jeremy Green (2:39 PM)
JB... that is the plan right now. They go with T-jack or Rosenfels. I still think this team is good enough in other areas to go say 10-6 with T-jack at the controls
12yearoldeaglesfan (reading, pa)
because i am sick(playin hooky to chat with JG)
jeremy- you are the head coach of the Rams... when should bradford start at QB this year? right away game 1 or wait a month or two
Jeremy Green (2:42 PM)
I have to wait and see. I am not there so I don't know how quickly he is picking things up? DO the other players have confidence in him? Is he showing great leadership? How is my offensive line looking? So many questions to be answered before I could make that call. If it were my choice though I would want to start him and get the ball rolling on developing him.
Hey JG, just stopped in and saw your first question/response...Although the Bills do have a need at LT, you are the VERY FIRST analyst comment on the inside of the line, which is young and talented (like you said). Is LT so important that if one of the tackles the Bills has plays just average, the line will still stink even with the talent on the inside? Thanks for bringing that up.
Jeremy Green (2:44 PM)
Stink could be an overstatement. I don't think an entire line will go to hell. But I really like Wood and Levitre and if the tackles are bad and those guys have to spend time helping out it could affect the way they think or play in one on one situations. They don't need to be great at the tackle spots but I do think they need to at least be good.
Over under on defenses figuring out Kolb...4 games?
Jeremy Green (2:46 PM)
I don't know that he gets solved that easily. I think he is going to have some great games and not so great games. Overall I think he develops into an average starter. This is a good offensive system and he understands it well.
Are you purposely skipping over Bears questions? What's your take on Major Wright? More Mike Brown than Afalava?
Jeremy Green (2:47 PM)
I would never diss a fellow Bears fan on purpose. More like Mike Brown. Smart and can get people lined up. He is a guy that can go down into the box and be effective.
matt (Grand rapids)
I'm tired of all the Jets talk!! Sanchez is completely overrated. Henne is much more polished and will have a better NFL career, Agree????
Which teams do you think will be in the running too draft Jake Locker 1st overall next season?
Jeremy Green (2:48 PM)
I agree that Henne is more polished right now. He has had one more season to develop though. Lets make this call after the season. I agree though right now I would take Henne...
Jeremy Green (2:49 PM)
Thoughts on Seattle's Draft? heard conflicting reports
Jeremy Green (2:51 PM)
I really liked it... Okung and Thomas will start as rookies. Golden Tate is going to contribute a lot. And even though these guys are not picks per se I like the additions of White and Washington over the 3-day draft to create competition at RB. I really like what Seattle did
lavar (east stroudsburg)
the vikings should have picked up donavon mcnabb and let bretts ankle go retire
Jeremy Green (2:52 PM)
Hard to argue that because if Favre does not play I still think the Vikings go 10-6 but they will be an early post season out whereas McNabb would have kept them a legit contender.
How good do you think the Ravens D-line will be now with big Terrence"Mount"Cody lining up next too Haloti"U get" Ngata?
Jeremy Green (2:53 PM)
Going to be scary to try to run on this football team. Two big massive DT's gobbling up blockers inside and allowing those guys at LB to run and chase.
Carolina is a dark horse for the #1 pick next year too. Not digging the Moore/Clausen/Pike trio at all.
I'm pretty sure there is only 1 franchise QB in the AFC East and its (obviously) Brady. Put Trent Edwards on the Jets or the Dolphins, he puts up similar numbers to Sanchez and Henne. Put Sanchez or Henne on the Bills last year with that line, they get benched for Ryan Fitzpatrick too.
Jeremy Green (2:54 PM)
Great point Xander.
Do you think Matt Leinart will turn out to be a solid NFL QB for the Cards? He has had a few years to learn Whiz's offense?
Jeremy Green (2:55 PM)
I think he is going to be better then people think he will be. It is his team now which means I think he prepares better knowing that he is the guy. He has made some plays over his career as well when he has played. I think he will keep them in contention in what could be a tight NFC West.
Mike (UC Santa Barbara)
Do you think the Vikings made a big mistake passing on Clausen and McCoy?
Jeremy Green (2:57 PM)
I would not call it a mistake because Childress knows quarterbacks and he didn't think they fit so I will defer to him on that and his offensive system. Neither one could give him more then a more veteran like Jackson or Rosenfels could give them right now. They will find a QB to develop in the 2011 draft.
I'm a PSU fan, so I watched a lot of Mike Kafka at Northwestern and I think he fits the Eagles west-coast sytem well as a number 2 behind Kolb if Vick is used as a gadget player.
Jeremy Green (2:58 PM)
Good observation there. I am a big Kafka fan. Gets rid of the ball quickly and is a great fit in the WC offense.
Jeremy Green (2:59 PM)
OK guys... thanks for joining me today. I will catch you back here next week... 2 PM on Monday. Thanks for all the great questions.
