Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:00 PM)
Good afternoon everyone...with the week off I hope you all could charge your batteries..and with that..let's get this partaaayyy started!
Jeff Gordon or Juan Pablo Montoya with the better finish this weekend at the Brickyard?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:03 PM)
I thinking it's going to be Montoya...I've got him ranked fourth going in and Gordon fifth...so very close between the two..My feeling is this - Montoya had the best car far and away last year and if not for the speeding penalty was long gone..despite his record..despite his points position Montoya has actually been better at every track this year..if he maintains or gets a little better at Indy than he was last year then he should contend for a top-five and the win again..Gordon will be good but I've got a feeling the ECR power under the hood of Montoya's car will make him a tick better.
Sam Hornish Jr., AJ Allmendinger or Paul Menard with the highest finish at Indy?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:05 PM)
Hornish just can't seem to get anything right to go for him this year...Menard did impress me at Chicagoland that's for sure...but I like Allmendinger as the best in this group. He has more upside and was tenth at Pocono, a track that is a decent predictor of what may happen at Indy.
Nicholas Rolando (Orlando)
Mark, back on the fantasy trail this week. My prelim line-up is 48-00-29-82. The 82 worries me Mark. I have 4, 5, and 4 starts left with the 98, 77. 43 left so I had to essentially pick Speed or run out of starts with the other guys. Should I switch over to one of those three or with Speed? Or Regan Smith? Thanks Mark!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:09 PM)
The only car that scares me as well on your team is the 82...let me give you some alternatives to think about other tan the 98,77, and 43...I think Brad Keselowski is going to need some serious consideration. I don't know if Logano is in that group but he might be number one over Logano and also think about Reed Sorenson..he was 13th last year at Indy driving for Richard Petty and I think he's driving a little bit stronger car, subbing for Brian Vickers in the Red Bull Toyota..Vickers finished fifth at Indy last year.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Who do you think will win the Kroger 200 at ORP?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:10 PM)
Just to stick it to Carl Edwards, I'm predicting Brad Keselowski to win that race...betting Edwards has some sort of problem...after last week got a feeling he might be about to get some negative "mojo"...
hey mark, who do you think Martin and Montoya will fare this weekend? Martin seems to run fairly well here over the years and has a good average finish here and Juan easily should have won this race last year, your thoughts?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:11 PM)
Martin has been a little off wherever we've been this year so I'm not sure what to expect out of him at Indy..Montoya, on the other hand, is someone I feel can make a run at a top-five and could contend for the win just like he did in 2009.
I need some big points.. I watched last years Indy race and JPM dominated. However, a speeding on pit row ticket cost him the race. I think he will be good but can he hold it together or do I stick with 48-14-24-31-29.. Thanks Love Beth
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:13 PM)
Beth I think the team you have on paper is very good...Gordon may be a safer play over Montoya but again I think Montoya, like Gordon, is top-five material and could very well turn in the same kind of performance he did last season..If JPM can do that he just might get back the track owes him.
Since you owe me a subway after Chicago I am going to let you get even and go double or nothing that neither Carl or Brad win the next Nationwide race. Are we on? My long shot top 10 for Indy is Martin Truex Jr.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:14 PM)
How can I refuse to double down?...you're on!...Truex, in my opinion, does have an outside shot to run top-10, but you've got to like teammate David Reutimann a little better.
Andy (Suburb of IMS)
HELP WANTED after wasting valuable allocations on the 48 and 29 last week. Do you see the 42 duplicating his great IMS effort or is it safer to go with the 14 and 24? Do you think JMac will be a sleeper using info from the 42 or would you go with the 20 or 00? Finally, I have been on the Sorenson band wagon the last few weeks as a ?C? driver, do you foresee a top 15 or top 30 this week? THANKS for all you do!! Can?t wait for IMS to open....
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:17 PM)
Andy, I feel you pain...got bit last week too by those two guys..I think 42 has a chance to duplicate that performance but I like the 14 just a little better going in..I have him ranked third..Montoya fourth and Gordon fifth..I also think Sorenson is a real sleeper pick this week..could very well run top-15..and will certainly run top-30..that's a no brainer there..and you're welcome!
RAY GORDON REID ( WEST LAFAYETTE INDIANA 47907)

good afternoon guru. any news on the tires?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:21 PM)
Just checked around and don't really have anything new to report. They did a tire test and drivers felt the tires would hold up and hook up pretty well..If I hear anything else I'll have it "tweeted" or have it on my race day chat.
Can Earnhardt run top 5 again this weekend like he did for much of last year's race before suffering his 2nd blown engine in the last 3 races at Indianapolis?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:23 PM)
I guess anything is possible Justin, but I don't see it..Junior's been a little off the last two races at Pocono and Chicagoland and I'm not sure he can jump up and get that good that quick..For his sake I hope so, but I just don't see it...too many other good cars for him to climb over to run top-five.
Who do you pick to win this weekend? Give me three darkhorse picks that could crack the top 10, please?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:25 PM)
Again, my number one pick is Denny Hamlin..as for three dark-horses how about Allmendinger, Logano, and Soreneson.
YOu have JPM and Gordon running 4 and 5, then who do you have 1,2,3? Please don't say the 48!!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:26 PM)
Then I won't say the 48...you have seen my top-30 pre-race rankings right?
Karl - I like where your head's at. Truex should be a top 10'er everytime. But Guru, what about David R. in the 00 for MWR?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:27 PM)
I think the win at Chicagoland will only boost Reutimann's confidence in himself and his team...their the lead dog at MWR not Truex and win almost two weeks ago proved it.
What numbers should I rely on more than others when looking for drivers each week? Past success/failure, practice speeds, qualifying? Something else I'm missing?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:28 PM)
Past performance at Indy is key but so is the last practice..and how they did at Pocono with a glance at the Chicagoland finish as well.
norm (palm springs ca)
Mark, Do you think the fords of 99 and 16 will show the improvement the crew chief mentions in you crew chiefs notes Chi-town?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:29 PM)
The Roush cars did run better as a whole and that's a good sign..are they good enough to go up there and challenge for the win at Indy? I don't think so but top-10 material maybe.
GURU, The fact that you are "THE GURU" and have truly earned that title with your experience in the sport and your insightfulness brings me to the question of your take on the Brad/Carl incident. Thanks as always.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:33 PM)
Carl had the right to come back and nudge Brad out of the way...He did not have the right to hook him and send him into the wall and then across the track where he was nearly t-boned..Carl also does not have the right to wreck other cars which he's done both times...In my opinion Keselowski was "jay walking", a minor charge, but Edwards passed judgement like it was a felony...bottom line if Carl's going to get even he's got to get better at it..and he needs to take out or move over the offender and not punish so many innocent bystanders..
Nick Rolando (Orlando)
Mark, unfortunately Logano and Keselowski aren't in the "C" group. The 43, 77, 98, and 82 are the main 4 guys. But Sorenson is in there, is he a better pick than Speed?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:34 PM)
Yes, Sorenson is a better pick than Speed.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:49 PM)
Harvick, Gordon, Johnson, Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch, Jeff Burton, Tony Stewart are eight that I think are "in"..the guys I see in potential danger are Kenseth, Edwards, Biffle and Bowyer..all have been inconsistent..Kenseth does have a little bit of a cushion if he can get by Watkins Glen and still have almost 200 points on 13th he should be good to go..of the guys out of the top-12..Dale Jr., Martin, Reutimann, Newman, Kahne, McMurray, Logano, Truex, and Montoya, who 242 back with seven races to go before the final cut...none of those guys has thrown together four or five good runs in a row this year and that's what it will take to get in..so the guys currently in the top-12 could easily be the ones still there after Richmond given the performances we have seen in the opening 19 races..
Janet (Ascutney VT)
Hi Mark. Who do you think will be top 4 for qualifying? Also do you think Nascar would make Edwards pay all the car owners for the cars that got wrecked for a wreck that he intentionally caused? That might wake him up. Thanks.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:53 PM)
If I guy had to pay like that boy would that be good news for car owners..and yes that would be a wake up call...I remember when Dale Earnhardt wrecked Terry Labonte about the same way just as Labonte was taking the checkered flag at Bristol..Richard Childress told Rick Hendrick to send him the bill...Hendrick told me he sent RC an itemized bill and guess what it never got paid..as for the top four qualifiers hard to say because it's all about the qualifying draw..if you draw early you get to go out when track is cool...if you get a late draw..you're are going to get the short end of the stick with the temps up and the track slicker than snot on a door handle...how's that for a mental picture?...lol...
GURU, Is PRN broadcasting the race from Indy? For the fans who haven't heard, the best raceday, other than being there, is muting the TV and listening to the radio team.( PRN or MRN).
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:54 PM)
No it's the Indy Radio Network...but a bunch of the guys from PRN are going to be on the broadcast..Doug Rice, Brad Gillie, Brett McMilland and I believe Rob Albright...I wasn't good enough to make the cut I guess...lol..and yes I too think the best way to experience race is watch it on TV with the sound down listening to the radio!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (4:03 PM)
Well I guess that's going to do it for today...Thanks for all of you joining this chat sesssion...Remember our race day chat from Indy will begin at 9:30 eastern this Sunday morning...hope you can all be there with the rest of our "friends"...until then have a great week and be safe..."The Guru has left the building!"
