Chat with Dana White

On Saturday, UFC 118 will broadcast LIVE in HD to select movie theaters nationwide.
Welcome to SportsNation! On Tuesday, UFC president Dana White stops by to chat about the upcoming UFC 118 fight.
White began his career in MMA as a manager to such fighters as Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell. However, in 2001, White's childhood friend Lorenzo Fertitta's company Zuffa, LLC bought the UFC and installed White as president.
On August 28, he will oversee UFC 118 featuring a rematch between lightweights Frankie "The Answer" Edgar and B.J. "The Prodigy" Penn, live from TD Garden in Boston on PPV. Edgar won against Penn in a unanimous decision during UFC 112.
Send in your questions now and then join White at 1:30 p.m. ET Tuesday!

UFC's Dana White will be here shortly!
Buzzmaster (1:30 PM)
Dana is here!
Jeff (Romeo, MI)
Dana, I think your personality is so Love/Hate, you ever think of doin some type of Reality Show just based on your ins and outs of the UFC on a daily basis?? Think it would be a great show!
Dana White (1:31 PM)
My video blogs are close to that right now. We talked about doing a TV show one time. A reality show with Spike. It just takes up so much of my time. Makes it hard to run the business.
Brian F (San Diego, CA)
How does it feel to be back in Beantown? Make sure to hit up Little Stevie's pizza on Boylston, just down the road from Hynes Convention Center!!!
Dana White (1:31 PM)
I'm pumped. And actually to do the fight there. I'm going on a food eating binge when I get there. I've never heard of that place.
Dave (Boston)
Why do you think boxers tend to have more of an arrogant attitude while mixed martial artists tend to be more humble and respectful of their opponents?
Dana White (1:33 PM)
Not just boxers, sports guys in general. A lot of these guys in sports have that attitude. I don't get it. Maybe because people have been kissing their butts since high school. Also the martial arts component of the sport, you learn respect at a young age.
jon (new york)
hi dana! now that you built the ufc, and made it so big, what motivates you? and makes you get up in the morning ,
Dana White (1:33 PM)
Because we haven't achieved the end game. The ultimate goal, which is creating a sport. To create a sport, people all over the world have to be playing by the same rules. People who play soccer have the same rules all over. That's our goal with the UFC.
Steve (VA)
Dana, I don't think I'm saying anything too shocking when I say, you don't really fit the mold of many other company's presidents. Having said that, do you ever run into anyone that tries to take advantage of that fact?
Dana White (1:34 PM)
No. Never. This isn't a regular company that I'm running. This isn't Microsoft, this isn't Pepsi. It's the UFC and a fight company.
Will (LA)
Dana, I'm a casual fight fan, but I have a hard time really getting into it. For example, one of the first fights I watched, and I can't for the life of me remember who was fighting, the guys engaged in a ground battle nearly the entire 5-minute round. While I'm guessing hard core fans can appreciate this, I found it a little boring to be honest. Is my assessment correct, or do I need to keep watching fights?
Dana White (1:35 PM)
I think you need to keep watching more fights. I came from boxing and wasn't too thrilled about the ground game because I couldn't understand it. Once I learned it, I became a huge fan. Try to learn more about it and I think you'll love it.

Will You Ever Match Brock with Bobby Lashley? Who next for Brock
Dana White (1:36 PM)
Bobby isn't in Brock's universe, but who's next for Brock is one of the best fighters in the world in Velasquez.
Kai (Tennessee)
Dana on your video blog you were talking about how intimidating Iron Mike was when he walked in a room....who is more Intimidating Iron Mike or Brock?
Dana White (1:37 PM)
Hmmmmm. Brock's pretty scary too. I was talking about with Tyson how imposing he was walking into the stadium. Tyson just had this thing about him and you never knew if he was going to snap. Very good point, Brock has that too.
Dave
playe dthe video game lately?
Dana White (1:37 PM)
No, I suck at it.
Bobby Jay (Vermont)
Would you ever let Kimbo Slice back in the UFC if he wins in smaller organizations to prove himself worthy of a second chance?
Dana White (1:38 PM)
Yeah, I would, but what I'm hearing is that he's going to box instead.
Rob Harvey (London, UK)
Dana, any chance of a couple of tickets for UFC 120?
Dana White (1:38 PM)
Sure, no problem.
Flo_Mac Soldier (Brookline Ma)
What boxer, past or present do you think would have made the most impact in the world of MMA?
Dana White (1:38 PM)
I think any of them, if they started young and trained in MMA.
Griffin (Charleston, IL)
Do you think MMA could ever actually replace wrestling on a college level? I would love to see collegiate MMA teams compete
Dana White (1:39 PM)
I would love to see that too. You can't take away wrestling. That's a piece of MMA. You have to have wrestling too.
Kyle (Queen City)
Your favorite fight of ALL time still Hughes v Trigg II?
Dana White (1:40 PM)
To be honest with you, those are my favorites, but now we've had some recent ones that have been good as well.
Alex Techersknov (Monteral, Quebec )
Do you think James Toney all that good as he says he is ?
Dana White (1:41 PM)
He is as good as he says he is. In the boxing world, he's one of the best over the years. We'll find out in MMA. But don't forget this is a fight and anything can happen in a fight.
Justin (Houston, TX)
Dana, you mentioned running a huge show in Dallas at Cowboys Stadium. Are there concrete plans, much less any details you can share about holding a show there in 2011?
Dana White (1:41 PM)
No plans set. It would have to be the right fight. I love that stadium and would love to do one there.
brandon stl [via mobile]
Will there ever be a st. Pierre vs. Anderson Silva fight in the distant future?
Dana White (1:42 PM)
People always ask me that. Obviously they both have some work to do. St. Pierre will fight on the next season of the show. Anderson has a couple of fights too. They both have a few guys to deal with in their division, but then I wouldn't have a problem doing that fight.
JD (Dallas, TX)
how's this season of ultimate fighter shaping up? stoked to see the st. pierre vs. kos matchup of the coaches.
Dana White (1:43 PM)
It's looking good. The way I gauge a season is by the fights, and I'm happy with the fights this season.
Sean (Los Angeles)
Do you consider the UFC in Abu Dhabi a success, or more of a work in progress?
Dana White (1:43 PM)
I think it was a success. Obviously, I wasn't happy with the main event, but that happens some times.
Marc (Malden, MA)
I know you wanted the first Boston show to be huge, but I can't help feel that a 47 year old vs a 42 year old boxer isn't good enough for a co-main event.
Dana White (1:44 PM)
I made the fight, so I'm not too bummed out with it. But I did build a great fight around it. Penn v. Edgar. Florian v. Maynard. Maia v. Miranda. Diaz v. Davis. Can't bitch about that card.
Sean (Los Angeles)
I love the Primetime series -- do you have plans to bring that back any time soon?
Dana White (1:45 PM)
Oh yeah. The next Primetime will be Velasquez v. Lesnar.
Jason (Owosso, MI)
Why no word on the Shane Carwin Steroid scandal?
Dana White (1:46 PM)
I talked to Shane. This is a situation where Shane said it was before he ever fought in the UFC. His name came up on a list, but he never tested positive for anything. He popped up on a list, like the BALCO list. We'll see what happens.
carlos (kansas city)
we all know box its huge in mexico, do you think UFC can be as successfull in mexico as well?
Dana White (1:47 PM)
Absolutely. If you're a fight fan, you love good fights, whether it's UFC or boxing. I love the UFC, but if there is a good boxing match, I will watch it or even go. But how many good boxing fights are there? WE do 30 a year.
Jeff (OH)
Dana, honestly - does James Toney make you laugh with all this stuff he's saying? Calling Brock a sissy and what not? This is comedy gold!
Dana White (1:48 PM)
Here's the thing about James Toney. He's funny but there's a little crazy too. He said he's going to knock me out at the weigh in press conference. I don't know if he's joking or serious.
Adam (Provo, UT)
How does the UFC recruit new/younger fighters? Do you have scouts?
Dana White (1:48 PM)
Yeah. We pretty much have our finger on the pulse of what's going on all over the world with the fighters. We're always pulling the best in the world into the UFC.
Dana White (1:49 PM)
Thank you all for taking the time out of your day to fire me some questions. I appreciate it. I'm pumped up for Boston. If you get a chance and you're in the New England area, get to the UFC Fan Expo. I'll see you all Saturday night.
