Chat with Jerome Bettis

Bettis was drafted 10 overall by the Rams in the 1993 draft.
Welcome to SportsNation! On Tuesday, we will look toward the start of the NFL season on Thursday when former NFL running back Jerome Bettis stops by to chat.
Following a 13-year career in the NFL, Bettis retired after his Pittsburgh Steelers won Super Bowl XL in 2006, his only Super Bowl win. He left the game with 13,662 rushing yards, good for fifth all-time and his 91 rushing TDs is 10th all-time.
Bettis is working with Guinness in the Head-to-Head challenge. Between now and Oct. 31, fans 21 and over can send in stories about stepping up to a challenge. The winner gets an all-expense paid trip to Dallas to hang out with Bettis.
Send your questions now and join Bettis Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. ET!

Jerome is running a few minutes late everyone. He'll be here around 3:20.
Buzzmaster (3:23 PM)
We've got Jerome!
jason (pittsburgh)
Bus,Just wanted to say I loved your book. Thought it was cool and honest (and still wince about the shots to the groin part). Anyway ... if they ever made your life into a movie, who would play you?
Jerome Bettis (3:25 PM)
That's a good question. The closest actor is probably Anthony Anderson, but he doesn't look like he's athletic. I'd have to make him lose some weight.
Nick (College Park)
Mr. Bettis - can you please give me your best case scenario for the Steelers this season, and, in your opinion, what the most realistic outcome of their season will be?
Jerome Bettis (3:25 PM)
The most realistic is 10-6, 9-7. If they have a rough start, maybe 9-7, but I think 10-6.
Eric L. (Eau Claire WI)
What is your most memorable moment in football?
Jerome Bettis (3:25 PM)
Hoisting the Lombardi Trophy in my hometown.
Trevor Been (Eaton,Colorado)
Dio you think Ben Roethlesberger should still be a caption and will this effect the steelers in any way
Jerome Bettis (3:26 PM)
Obviously, it won't have any effect, because the players voted for him not to be captain. I don't think it will be a problem at all. I think it would be more of a story if he wasn't.
Christian (Camp Hill, PA)
Did u catch any Jonathan Dwyer for the Steelers in the preseason? Not quite as big, but he's the 1st guy to remind me of your downhill running for the Steelers since u retired. Your thoughts?
Jerome Bettis (3:27 PM)
I didn't see a lot of him, but he was hurt for a little bit. I think the running game is going to be OK early, but they have to show a commitment to it early. If they do it, it will bear fruit later on in the season.
matt (notre dame country)
how do you think the irish will fare tis year
Jerome Bettis (3:28 PM)
I was pleasantly surprised at how well they performed against Purdue. I will equally be looking forward to seeing how they do against that Michigan running game.
Sarah (Philly)
Bus - What are your thoughts on Coach Tomlin's decision to go with Dixon over CB? Do you think Dixon can get 2 wins in those 4 games?
Jerome Bettis (3:28 PM)
I think they can, if the defense plays incredibly well and they're able to run the football somewhat consistently.
Kevin (Simsbury, CT)
Hey Jerome- Gotta ask... gas or charcoal?
Jerome Bettis (3:28 PM)
I do grill, but I am not old school. I am a new school griller, it's gas.
Richard (Point Pleasant, NJ)
The Giants have two great runnings backs, Ahmad Bradshaw & Brandon Jacobs, which one would you start or do you start both of them?
Jerome Bettis (3:29 PM)
That's a tough one. Clearly, you have to start the one that gives you the most productivity. That's Bradshaw.
Brian F (San Diego)
Who was your favorite teammate of all time and what was your favorite city to play in on the road? thx
Jerome Bettis (3:30 PM)
That's a tough one. I don't have one. I have a couple of guys. Slater, Dawson, Ward, Porter.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Who do you think will be the best Rookie Running Back in the NFL this year?
Jerome Bettis (3:30 PM)
I like Mathews in San Diego. He's probably the best. CJ Spiller is probably No. 2. 3 would have to be Best.
Shawn Spencer (Santa Barbara, CA)
Jerome, who was the player you did NOT want to see between you and the end zone?
Jerome Bettis (3:31 PM)
There was nobody coming between me and scoring a TD.
steve (warner robins Ga)
loyalty aside .... who do you have winning the superbowl?
Jerome Bettis (3:31 PM)
I like Green Bay.
Sarah (Philly)
They sure could use you to help them get that consistency back! I'd love to get back to the days of you pounding it ahead on short and anything!
Jerome Bettis (3:32 PM)
They just have to make the commitment. Go through it in training camp. You go through the drills, eventually, they'll pay off for you. You have to keep fighting and clawing. That's how you become a better running team.
Baron (Large, PA)
Physically toughest player you've ever played against? Smartest? Thanks
Jerome Bettis (3:32 PM)
Sam Adams.
Stan (GA)
how excited are you for this promotion you're working on?
Jerome Bettis (3:34 PM)
I am really excited. I get a chance to challenge somebody in a perfect pouring contest. Bring them out to Dallas. It's a great event. Go to Guinness.com and in a 100 words or less and tell us about your boldest athletic moment and maybe you can be the one crushed in this contest by me.
Jerome Bettis (3:34 PM)
Just try to stop me. You're going to lose, but it will be a great trip.
Buzzmaster (3:34 PM)
Thanks for chatting Jerome!
