Chat with Angel McCoughtry
McCoughtry scored a WNBA playoff record 42 points in a series clinching win against the Liberty.
Welcome to SportsNation! On Friday, we'll have Atlanta Dream forward, and 2009 WNBA Rookie of the Year, Angel McCoughtry stopping by to chat.
Led by McCoughtry's team-leading 28.0 points per game in the postseason, the Dream have swept through the playoffs beating Washington and New York, the top two seeds in the East. Now they are set to make their first WNBA Finals appearance as they take on the Storm.
McCoughtry, the first overall pick in the 2009 WNBA draft, was the first three-time All-American at the University of Louisville. After averaging 20 points and 9.1 rebounds in her collegiate career, Angel left the Cardinals as their all-time leading scorer (2,779) and rebounder (1,261).

Angel, with the NFL season kicking off this weekend, I want to know which is your favorite NFL team?
Angel McCoughtry (2:46 PM)
Of course the Ravens, I'm from Baltimore. Let's go Ravs ...beat them Jets!!!
Sharon Jackson (Minneapolis, MS)
The Dream Team is playing with a lot of confidence right now, what inspired this change?
Angel McCoughtry (2:47 PM)
We've always palyed wit hconfidence. We just had a little bump in the road but now we're back playing well together.
Hey Angel, what do guys need to do to stop Seattle?
Angel McCoughtry (2:48 PM)
We need to play smart for 40 minutes. We have to come mentally and physically prepared to play against them.
Hey Angel, congratulations on making it to the finals againt Seattle. Who on Seattle is the biggest threat?
Angel McCoughtry (2:49 PM)
The entire team. You can't bake a cake without eggs and flour can you? Just like any team, you need everyone to come together in order to win. So in all, their entire team is a threat to us.
Your team had a bad second half but in these playoffs you've managed to win four straight against two very good teams in the Mystics and Liberty. In your opinion, what has been the biggest reason the Dream have done so well in the playoffs?
Angel McCoughtry (2:51 PM)
I think we played well. Teams make runs so I don't think we had a bad second half. Coming together and playing as a team is the season we have done well in the playoffs.
Cleosha Lee (Memphis, Tennessee)
I just want to say that i feel honored and privelaged just to see you play on tv, im 17 getting ready for my college career and you are one big inspiration..I would love to meet you in person sometime soon..im just in love with your game!
Angel McCoughtry (2:52 PM)
I love you too. Thank you for allowing me inspire you. Continue to work hard and be great.
coleco (san diego)
Congratulations to you and your team getting to the finals. How do you think your new starting five will match up against the starting five of the Storm seeing that they have a slight height advantage on you?
Angel McCoughtry (2:54 PM)
Height never means anything. That goes back to David beating Goliath. We are going to do whatever it takes to win. Rebounding, playing defense, we will do anything.
Hi Angel. I had the pleasure of watching you at Indiana late in the year. I was VERY impressed with your game. I hope you take this as a compliment, but you remind me alot of Tamika. Your desire to WIN shows with your hard play and willingness to take over at the end of games or when your team is down. What is the BEST advice that you could give Me or my 2 daughters(11 & 12) to take their basketball games to another level. Thanks and GOOD LUCK vs. the Storm!
Angel McCoughtry (2:56 PM)
Thank you for the compliment. I really look up to Tamika on and off the court. As a woman, you have to have fun with the game of basketball. We need to have our confidence up and when we have fun, our confidence will follow. If you work hard, your skills will come. Just enjoy the game and everything else will fall into place.
Katrina Robinson (Houston Texas)
Angel what is the most important thing you have learned about yourself as a player this season vs last sean
Angel McCoughtry (2:57 PM)
Just playing and letting the game come to me, not forcing anything. Also not arguing with the refs because once they make a call, they can't take it back.
Erin Horne (Orlando, Fl)
First of all HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! :) I Have 2 questions for u.How does it feel to be eastern confrence champs & moving on to play in the 2010 wnba finals??Also, what do u usually do to prepare for gameday?
Angel McCoughtry (2:59 PM)
Thank you!!! It feels great. It reminds me of playing in the Final Four but it's not over. We celebrated and now it's time to get back to the job at hand. Becoming WNBA Champions. Gameday, I take a long nap, eat a good meal, take a hot shower and pray before each game.
Angel McCoughtry (3:00 PM)
Thank you for all the questions. Hopefully I'll be able to continue to impress you guys on the court. Cheer for Atlanta as we look to bring home our first WNBA championship.
