Talk about the talents of Shabazz Muhammed. What current NBA player has similar skill set to him? And lastly, do you see him heading east for college or staying on the west coast?
Reggie Rankin (4:05 PM)
He reminds me of former Louisville wing Terrence Williams, who is with the Nets, except Shabazz is a lefty. Their skill set is similar and they are both versatile, athletic. They can rebound and slash to the basket too. Based on who's recruiting him, i tend to lean on him heading east. NC, Duke, KY have made him a priority in addition to Kansas and Texas. But I don't want to count out the elite programs on the West Coast, like UCLA, UNLV, Arizona, Arizona St.
Looks like KU is after Quinn Cook with Turner commiting to UofA. Do you see the B-more pipeline continuing to flow into the midwest? Also, you pick one. Nash, McLemore, or Beal and why?
Reggie Rankin (4:09 PM)
I could see Cook being someone that Kansas would have great interest in based on their succes with Selby. Although they must be certain to evaluate his injury. He will be another great fit in their style and he's talented enough to thrive in that system. If I had to pick one, I would go with Beal because of his ability to shoot and he's more polished.
Bill Fredrich (Indianapolis)
I'm interested in how the new stars system is going to work out. My question concerns Roosevelt Jones. A few months ago, there was an article releases saying he was on the cusp of the top 100 list. But he's not on the 150 right now, just an oversight?
Reggie Rankin (4:13 PM)
First of all, we think the new stars system is a great way to break down the level of players ability. In terms of Jones, he was on the cusp of the 100 before we re-did the rankings a few months ago. The SF position is really deep throughout the country, which is a big reason why he's not on the cusp, but that could change after we re-do the rankings after the high school season. Regardless, he is a legit high three-star player with the potential to move up.
jordan (Louisville ky)
is there a good chance that kentucky can get another 5 star recruit in 2011. and if so would that class rival that of their 2009 class?
Reggie Rankin (4:15 PM)
I think this class already rivals the 2009 class, but they still have a shot at Quincy Miller, Amir Williams or even another guard in Tony Wroten or Trevor Lacey.
what are Texas chances of pulling Quincy Miller and or Moussa Gueye? Are there any other prospects Texas is Hot with at the moment?
Reggie Rankin (4:19 PM)
I don't think they are leader for Miller, but that could change with a campus visit. They have a better shot at Gueye, who would give them a legit 7-footer in the middle. They are also looking at three-star recruits Jonathan Holmes and Anthony Anderson.
Does Duke have a chance to catch Kentucky for the number 1 spot and do you see them landing Quinn Cook and Austin Rivers?
Reggie Rankin (4:23 PM)
Not sure if they could catch KY, but if they land Rivers and Quincy Miller they would make things interesting. They also have a great chance of landing Quinn Cook with the possibility of Kyrie Irving leaving early.
Is Ole Miss the leader for Johnny O Bryant?
Reggie Rankin (4:25 PM)
I think Miss. is right in the thick of things, but I've heard Miss. St., LSU, Miami and Alabama as of late. He is still in evaluation mode of the schools.
Mikey V (Oregon)
Do Dana Altman and the Ducks have an outside chance at any of the top prospects left out there? Any news as to some big man who might try and step in right away for the Ducks?
Reggie Rankin (4:29 PM)
Not sure about a big man at this time, you have to remember Altman has a juco background and he might go that route. They are trying very hard with Jabari Brown and Norman Powell, two four-star SGs on the west coast and Amir Garrett, who is also a four-star recruit.
Rutgers is doing big things down in Piscataway!! What else do you see happening for this recruiting period for the Scarlet Knights?
Reggie Rankin (4:32 PM)
I think they have already made a great impression on the kids from the East Coast and they have filled their needs. Their class is deep and strong, led by Myles Mack and Jerome Seagers. Anything else from here would be icing on the cake. Mike Rice has done a great job landing legit Big East players.
Kevin (Cincinnati, OH)
How about the recruiting of Xavier? Do they once again have the best class in the A10?
Reggie Rankin (4:34 PM)
Yes, they have three four-star recruits led by Dezmine Wells, who is an immediate impact player in the A10 and will probably be frontrunner for rookie of the year, Darwin Davis is a true PG with great quickness and Jalen Reynolds is an athletic PF with good skill and tremendous upside.
Any chance Dorian Finney-Smith picks ODU (his official is this weekend) over Va. Tech and Florida when he announces next week?
Reggie Rankin (4:38 PM)
I think there is a chance because he has family ties to ODU, but Va Tech has really put in a ton of time and they are the most local high-major program that he's still considering. Plus, you can never count out the Gators.
Kevin (Boston College)
Coach Donahue just snagged some quality California recruits, how long until he has the Eagles flying again?
Reggie Rankin (4:41 PM)
Ryan Anderson is the face of this class. he is a very skilled PF and Caudill gives them legit size inside, along with Dennis Clifford. It's only a matter of time Donahue has the Eagles soaring in the ACC. He is a terrific coach and these guys fit his style of play.
Will UConn land any recruits in 2011??
Reggie Rankin (4:43 PM)
The huskies are recruiting Jabari Brown out of Calif really hard, along with Tony Wroten, Ryan Boatright, Ky Madden and Jabarie Hinds. Expect to hear the huskies get one on the board very soon.
tony wroten has said he will commit to a school on oct 8 ive heard its down to louisville and washington, who do u think he will choose? and if wroten commits to UL does that influence millers descion or not
Reggie Rankin (4:47 PM)
If I had to pick I would probably say Washington slightly based on location and Lorenzo Romar. But if he went to Louisville I wouldn't be shocked at all. He could influence Miller to join him because Wroten's ability to pass would be very attractive to him.
Evan (Chapel Hill)
Will unc be able to land Zeller or Austin?
Reggie Rankin (4:49 PM)
I think they have a great chance at both because of family ties for Zeller and Rivers could be the marquee player for a marquee program along with Harrison Barnes, if he's still there.
Steve Lavin has been doing a great job recruiting so far at St. John's. Who do you see them getting next?
Reggie Rankin (4:52 PM)
He is already off to a really good start, recruiting the West Coast and in the Midwest with Sampson. He has really reached out to the HS and travel coaches in NY.Next on the list for the Red Storm would probably be Tyler Harris, Dom Pointer, Deangelo Harrison, Norvel Peele or Jabari Hinds. Adding one or two would take this class to the next level.
What do you think of Alex Murphy?
Reggie Rankin (4:55 PM)
He is a very skilled SF with great size, sneaky athletic ability and is a true triple threat. He can shoot, pass and handle the ball. He lets the game come to him and has a great feel for the game with a tremendous basketball IQ. In short, I think he's pretty good.
Talbott (Lexington, KY)
Kyle Wiltjer's commitment to UK came as a bit of a shocker. How well do you think he will play into Calipari's system, and do you expect him to be a one-and-done?
Reggie Rankin (4:57 PM)
I think he will be tremendous in Calipari's system because of his size, skill and versatility. He will benefit from all the dribble penetration. I don't think he will be a one-and done, but I think he will play in the NBA thanks to his size, skill set and tremendous basketball IQ.
Nick (Wisconsin )
what are Kentucky's chances of landing J.P. Tokoto
Reggie Rankin (4:59 PM)
I think they have an excellent chance because once Calipari makes a decision to go after a recruit hard, the visit will speak for itself and his recent success with players will be very attractive.
Michael Shearer (Durham, NC)
Where do you think Austin Rivers will end up?
Reggie Rankin (5:02 PM)
Based on my gut feeling, I think he will end up at Duke. Coach K's experience coaching NBA players in the summer, Duke winning the championship and school tradition will be too much for Rivers to say no to. However, he can't go wrong with UNC or Kansas either based on their coaches and a long list of former greats.
