Chat with D'Arcy Maine
D'Arcy Maine (6:30 PM)
Greetings from Soldier Field! Sincere apologies for the delay with the start today. There were some credential issues but not only did I get them resolved, I got to play beanbag toss while waiting. That said, thanks for joining me tonight and keep the questions coming!
FC Houston/Chi [via mobile]
does the bears have a good chance tonight? What's the line?
D'Arcy Maine (6:34 PM)
Might as well start with an easy one, FC. Vegas favors the Packers tonight by 3 so obviously they're predicting a close one tonight in Chicago. I think we're in for a good one tonight. The home crowd should help the Bears and certainly give them a very good chance of pulling this one off. They are 2-0 for a reason. Even if the Lions were one of those opponents...
Shawn Guinn, N. LasVegas, NV [via mobile]
Does Chicago have what it takes, not only to beat the Packers tonight. But make & win the Super Bowl?
D'Arcy Maine (6:40 PM)
It's pretty early for Super Bowl talk there, Shawn but I like where your heads at. I've heard various members of the Bears over the last couple of days point out that it really is only Week 3 and we need to all keep that in perspective. I don't think there is a clear favorite to win it all at this point and that won't change regardless of the outcome of the game tonight. I think it will be very telling to see how the Chicago offense is able to adjust to Clay Matthews and the Pack defense. If they are able to figure out a way to make things happen, Bears fans should feel very optimistic.
Brian Scalabrine (GB sidelines) [via mobile]
You think I will get any playing time tonight? GO PACK GO!!
D'Arcy Maine (6:42 PM)
Three questions in and we've already got a Scal reference. I've got a good feeling about tonight. But, on a serious note, I'm a little disturbed fake Scal would want to get off on such a bad note in his new town. Chicago fans will remember this disloyalty, fake Scal.

who do you think will be sitting on top of nfc north at the end of this game?
D'Arcy Maine (6:46 PM)
I like the way you phrased this, Chris. More fun than just asking "who wins tonight?". A couple of fun facts first about tonight's NFC North matchup... this is the 180th meeting between the two teams (Chicago holds the edge, 91-82-6) but this is the first time since 1962 both teams enter the game with a 2-0 record. The above facts make me feel really young. So obviously I had to post them. But to answer your question, I give the Pack a slight advantage tonight and I think they'll win by a TD.
ben r nyc [via mobile]
I know both rodgers and cutler have somewhat of a friendship off the field. what's the likelyhood that will be a factor in tonights matchup?
D'Arcy Maine (6:49 PM)
Interesting question, Ben. But I think there is often a huge emphasis on these off-the-field friendships and I really don't see it as a factor at all. I think in any sport at the professional level, athletes are able to forget about their friendships and let their competitive drives take over. But, I never really understand the conversation in football, as Rodgers and Cutler wil never actually be on the field at the same time. It might quietly motivate them to do better but other than that, it shouldn't do much.
D'Arcy Maine (6:51 PM)
But, just to emphasize their friendship off the field, Cutler actually has become a pseudo-mentor to Rodgers' younger brother who is a QB at Vandy. So there certainly is a respect level between them that should provide some very nice sound bites afer the game.

The Bears were obviously not that good last year and most people had them finishing around 6-10 this year. At what point do you see the Bears coming back to reality or does everybody have this team figured wrong?
D'Arcy Maine (7:08 PM)
The Bears are who we thought they were! Sorry, just couldn't resist that one... I think a lot of people are surprised by the Bears start but it seems as if Cutler is starting to come into his own in Chicago and returning more to his 2008 season in Denver form. It's also in large part to the defense. The Bears have limited their first two opponents to just 56 yards rushing combined (Lions with 20, Cowboys with 36). Also, the return of Brian Urlacher is huge for this team both on and off the field. He has 14 solo tackles, 2 assisted tackles and 1 sack thus far and you can't put a value on his leadership qualities with this team. So, with all of those factors, I believe the Bears really are a playoff team and much better than people initially thought. Tonight should be a great measuring stick for this team.
D'Arcy Maine (7:13 PM)
Sorry all. The stadium has currently lost all internet connectivity. I'm currently stealing the reporter in front of me's internet but might get kicked off when he realizes that I'm, you know, stealing.

Seeing the bills released Edwards today do you think the Bears will pick him up? He could be a great No.2. QB?
D'Arcy Maine (7:17 PM)
Interesting question, John. First, how bad do you feel for Trent? Being released from the Bills has to be like being not asked to return to the third season of Jersey Shore. I realize Edwards' numbers weren't good (29-for-52 for 241 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT in two games) and how much better Fitzpatrick did yesterday but I can't help but feel bad. I think it would be smart for the Bears or any other team to pick up him as a No. 2. I think he could do better in another system and could be a solid backup for Cutler here in Chicago.
Mikey- Abq, NM [via mobile]
How you doin, I'd like to ask you about Urlacher, he's definitely one of the NFC's top Linebackers but is he still among the best in the NFL and can he be again..I'd like to see him play forever and win a hundred rings but nothing that good can last forever, since he's been healthy he's had a hunger like the Url from 2001-2006 how long can we see him for
D'Arcy Maine (7:22 PM)
No, Mikey... How YOU doin? Who doesn't love Urlacher? The guy's everything you want on your team - hard worker, leader on and off the field, able to produce strong numbers year after year and I could go on. He's had a great first two games for the Bears this year and I've actually heard he's calling it his "best start ever". But, as you say, nothing lasts forever and at 32, it will be sooner rather than later. Provided he stays healthy, I think he could play another three strong seasons but obviously after last season, his health is a factor. But, I really think if he could have it his way, he would play this game forever because he seems to love it that much.

over/under 2.5 sacks for clay matthews tonight? i am taking the over
D'Arcy Maine (7:26 PM)
I think you have to take the over on that. He's the first Packer EVER to record consecutive three-sack games and has six on the season. I would take it until he gives you reason to think otherwise. Fun fact: He's on pace for 48 sacks this season. The current record for most sacks in a season is 22.5 (Strahan in 2001)...

What is the win\loss ratio for the bears on mnf?
D'Arcy Maine (7:31 PM)
I love these questions. First, this is the 10th MNF game between these two teams. The Packers hold a slight edge having won five of those (and all in the last six contests). The Packers are 27-21-1 in MNF appearances and the Bears... haven't released their MNF record anywhere. So I'm guessing it's not all that great.
Tom, SoCal [via mobile]
I consider you a reality show guru. Can you help settle a bet and confirm that Jay Cutler is dating Kristen from The Hills? Thanks! Love your work!!
D'Arcy Maine (7:32 PM)
I'm truly honored by that distinction, Tom. Thank you for that. Glad to help settle a bet. Cutler is in fact dating Kristin Cavallari. No word on if she'll be in the house tonight.
D'Arcy Maine (7:33 PM)
Side note: For those who think those type of questions have no relevance, think again. I think you can tell a lot about a person by who they date. If Cutler is braving daring crazy Kristin, you know he has to be pretty gutsy. That's a good trait in your QB. Point proven.
jaquan jones [via mobile]
This year who is the best nfc quarterback
D'Arcy Maine (7:35 PM)
Nice question, Jaquan. Have to go with Drew Brees. Ask anyone who owns him in fantasy and they'll agree with me. '60 Minutes' did a great feature on him last night. Worth watching online if you missed it.

Is Aromashadu playing this week?
D'Arcy Maine (7:35 PM)
Sorry, Vegas. He's on the inactive list.

Are the packers going to wear those horrible looking uniforms tonight against the bears?
D'Arcy Maine (7:37 PM)
Tell us how you really feel about those uniforms, Nate. The Packers are in normal uniforms but the Bears however will be wearing 1940's throwbacks in honor of the 'Monsters of the Midway'.

if michael vick plays the way hes capable of. do you see the eagles winniing the nfc east?
D'Arcy Maine (7:42 PM)
Can't tell you how impressed I am with Vick. He's returned to his pre-jail form and is back to being the exciting QB everyone fell in love with in the first place. He threw for 291 yards and 3 TDs and ran for another score yesterday against the Jags. It will be fascinating to watch him next week against Donovan McNabb(the one man who predicted Vick's resurgence this year)but, as of right now, I think he easily the best QB in the NFC East and really could lead the Eagles to winning the division title. Plus having DeSean Jackson as a target certainly doesn't hurt.

What do you think of soldier field? And how's the food?
D'Arcy Maine (7:46 PM)
Beautiful stadium, Andy. Right next to Lake Michigan with views of the City. The food for the media is equally impressive. Needless to say, I'm currently angling for a job with ESPN Chicago. I kid, I kid. Unless they're hiring.

Finale Score Tonight?
D'Arcy Maine (7:49 PM)
I like the use of all caps at the begining of each word here, Chas. Shows that you mean business. And I respect that. I'm going Packers 21, Bears 14.
russ nyc [via mobile]
Does Chester Taylor see an increase in PT tonight? They paid a lot for him...
D'Arcy Maine (7:54 PM)
They paid a lot for him to average 2.7 yards on the carry. I would expect the Bears to try and utilize him and Forte tonight. Don't know how success they'll be but I would imagine they'll try and utilize all of their options right from the get-go.
D'Arcy Maine (7:57 PM)
That does it for me chatting tonight, everyone. Thanks for joining me. I'll be doing a live blog starting in approximately four minutes and I hope to have you following along with that! I'll be posting questions, comments, etc. so get yours in if you're so inclined. Thanks again for joining me and enjoy the game!
