Beano Cook (3:05 PM)
Good afternoon and welcome. I am happ that my pick of Michigan State worked out with the cover. I take a 3-3 mark into my pick later this hour.
Beano,Can South Carolina be mentioned in the bcs championship conversation?
Beano Cook (3:06 PM)
They still have to win this week, beat Arkansas and Florida. If they don't lose another game, yes they could be mentioned.
Lynn (Monticello, FL)
What program have you been more impressed with and also do who do have playing for the nat'l championship.
Beano Cook (3:07 PM)
I think the Nebraska-Oklahoma winner has a good chance to play for the title. I originally picked Ohio State, so I will stick with the Buckeyes as the opponent.
Don (Ann Arbor)
Is Dennard Robinson still the Heisman frontrunner?
Beano Cook (3:08 PM)
I would say he is right now. If not, guys like LaMichael James and Taylor Martinez could be in the hunt.
Does the latest arrest of a Georgia player hurt Mark Richt's future?
Beano Cook (3:09 PM)
Not if he wins the remaining games on his schedule.
Evan (Grant, NE)
Does Nebraska have the best collection of defensive talent in the nation?
Beano Cook (3:10 PM)
I have to be honest...the Blackshirts are right up there. Would I say the best? It is a toss-up. Ever since Bo Pellini left LSU, the Tigers have not been the same. I know LSU keeps winning, but it is still not the same.
Tony (Richmond, CA)
AJ Green and Julio Jones garner the majority of headlines among the junior wide receivers, but how do you think Ryan Broyles stacks up against these two? Is he a first rounder as well?
Beano Cook (3:11 PM)
Broyles has had a very good year for the Sooners. He should be a first-round pick.
Tony (Richmond, CA)
Beano, are the Corhuskers the clear favorite and team to beat in the Big XII?
Beano Cook (3:13 PM)
Oklahoma and Nebraska are the favorites. Oklahoma State is good but I would go with Oklahoma and Nebraska.
Chris H (Florida)
Beano: With the heat on Paterno, do you think Al Golden is the logical replacement, if/when Paterno steps down?
Beano Cook (3:14 PM)
He is the logical replacement, though I don't know if he will get the job. Coach Bradley on Penn State's staff, as well as Larry Johnson Sr. would be candidates.
how bout what utah did to iowa state? that nov 6th showdown with TCU in salt lake is looking bigger and bigger. am i way off base thinking that utah could be better than TCU and boise?
Beano Cook (3:15 PM)
It was unbelievable. Utah and TCU will be a great game and Utah also has Air Force and Notre Dame on the schedule. Nobody is talking about the Utes and even at 11 in the AP poll, they could move up with some help.
When Nebraska beats Texas and Oklahoma State wins this week why wouldn't College game day be live in Stillwater over another boring SEC game? Is it just the ESPN love for their conference Favorites? They should enjoy the BIG RED EXPRESS. Thanks
Beano Cook (3:16 PM)
It is a possibility. LSU plays Auburn next week and the Gameday gang could be there. Wisconsin-Iowa is a possibility too.
Jim (State College, PA)
Beano...Joepa would never recommend Al Golden..He still holds a grudge for leaving during the recruiting period.
Beano Cook (3:17 PM)
That is true. He may not have a choice.
Michael (Nashville, TN)
Was Alabama overrrated or did they just have one coming?
Beano Cook (3:18 PM)
The Tide was not overrated. They got beat and you have upsets. Give Steve Spurrier some credit. The ol' ballcoach knows how to win some big games...if you don't believe me, ask Georgia.
Do you believe Texas will put up a fight this week against Nebraska?
Beano Cook (3:19 PM)
I think the Longhorns will put up a fight but Nebraska will win. If I am wrong, I am wrong.
Mike (Reno, NV)
Hey Beano, do you see Colin Kaepernick of Nevada being put into the Heisman talk anytime soon? It's bound to be a good game against Boise November 26th...
Beano Cook (3:20 PM)
Good game against Boise but I don't think he will get into the Heisman picture. Solid player but not getting the national exposure of Robinson, Martinez, Terrelle Pryor.
Beano Cook (3:21 PM)
If Terrelle Pryor wins at Wisconsin and Robinson struggles against Iowa, Pryor becomes the frontrunner for the Heisman.
Ray Stinger Jr. (Pittsburgh)
Hi Beano. What happens first,Pitt-PSU renew football series or the Pittsburgh Pirates finish above .500?
Beano Cook (3:22 PM)
Pittsburgh-Penn State series gets renewed.
Chad (SLC, UT)
Beano, toss out the rankings. Who's the best AQ team and non-AQ team and how do they compare to each other?
Beano Cook (3:23 PM)
Ohio State and Boise State.
DOES OLE MISS CONTINUE THE TREND AND UPSET ALABAMA THIS WEEKEND?
Beano Cook (3:24 PM)
No. Last year I thought Mississippi would win and the Rebels lost. This game is at Alabama and Nick Saban will not lose two straight ... I just don't see it.
What do you think about the job Gene Chizik has done at Auburn?
Beano Cook (3:26 PM)
Outstanding. That is the only word you can use. If Auburn keeps winning, the Tigers could play for the national title. If they beat Arkansas, LSU and Alabama, they have to be in the top two in my mind.
Tim Watley (Dentist office)
Hi Beano. Who's going to win the SEC? If you had to choose today?
Beano Cook (3:27 PM)
I still would pick Alabama to beat Florida. At the beginning of the year I thought Arkansas-Florida. If Alabama finishes 11-1, I still feel the Tide should play for the national title.
How about some love for the Orange this season?
Beano Cook (3:28 PM)
They beat South Florida on the road last week. Absolutely give some love for cpach Marrone. Carter is a very good running back and underrated on the national level. Big game against Pitsburgh this week.
EVER HEARD OF A PLAYER LOSING A FINGER DURING A GAME LIKE GREG NOSAL OF VA TECH....UNBELIEVABLE!!!!
Beano Cook (3:29 PM)
I have never heard of that. It might have happened, but I have not heard that happen.
Elias (Nashville, TN)
Hey, Beano, you're the best ESPN.com has. So tell me, has Tennessee really fallen this far... and do you think Derek Dooley can get it tuned around? If so, how long will it take?
Beano Cook (3:31 PM)
It is hard to believe what has happened to Tennessee. I have to think the Vols will come back. Give Dooley some time.
Can anyone stop Oregon? They appear to have a great mix of speed on offense and experience on defense. Your thoughts on them running the table in the Pac-10?
Beano Cook (3:33 PM)
I agree. They have to ply at USC, but right now you would have to think the Ducks would win. Still play Oregon State in a rivalry game. Beavers hurt with James Rodgers out.
Mike (Los Angeles)
What do you think of Notre Dame? The Irish faithful say that, with a few breaks, they could be 5-1. But, if they had not received a few breaks (against Purdue and Pittsburgh), they could be 1-5.
Beano Cook (3:36 PM)
Sure, you could say that about a lot of teams, with a few breaks they would have more wins. Before the season I said they would get nine wins and they can still do that. Utah is going to be a tough game for them. USC is never easy. By then the Trojans may have lost 1-2 other games and not care as much.
Hey Beano - gotta give me your thoughts on Iowa - Michigan, all of this Robinson for Heisman hurts my head like the Iowa D will to him!
Beano Cook (3:37 PM)
Michigan is at home and you know how I feel about home teams in big games. Iowa can still win the Big Ten. They have Ohio State and Wisconsin at home.
Tony (Richmond, CA)
Does the Kyle Rudolph injury eliminate the Irish from bowl contention?
Beano Cook (3:38 PM)
They can still make a bowl, but that is a real loss. He is one of the best tight ends in America and puts more pressure on Dayne Crist at QB and Michael Floyd.
Jack (The Island)
Beano, if Boise and TCU are both the only remaining undefeated schools at the end of the season do you see both of them playing for the NC game? Or will a 1 loss AQ school jump them?
Beano Cook (3:39 PM)
It depends on what the computer shows. Whichever two teams the computer has should play for the title. It is not a perfect system but it is what we have in place right now. Let's see how things play out the next few weeks and as we get closer I can give a better answer.
What are your thoughts on the Noles going forward? Can they win out? Is this beginning of a comeback to national relevance?
Beano Cook (3:42 PM)
Florida State got a great win last week and it has been a good first season for Jimbo Fisher. I think the Florida-Florida State game in Talahassee will be a very good game. Remember how the Seminoles looked last year? Pretty bad. Fisher has done a super job. Florida State is close to national relevence again.
Who would you rather be, Rick from Casablanca, or Coach Saban?
Beano Cook (3:42 PM)
Rick from Casablanca. Saban doesn't know Ingrid Bergmann.
Aaron (Rhode Island)
How can you not mention Iowa Hawkeye's defensive line in your previous response on Defensive teams? I believe they rank 1st in points allowed. They will own the line of scrimmage against Michigan.
Beano Cook (3:43 PM)
I give Iowa a lot of credit and have said many times that Kirk Ferentz is one of the best coaches in America.
James B (Chicago)
Hey Beano! What would be a bigger disaster scenario for BCS championship? TCU/Utah vs Boise/Nevada (if they are the only undefeated teams remaning), Ohio St vs Michigan St, or one-loss Alabama jumping over undefeated non-big six team?
Beano Cook (3:45 PM)
Good question. I would not count Alabama out yet and this will play itself out for the most part. That is why college football is so exciting and fun.
Hayden (Logan, Utah)
seems like this year would be a good one for a playoff....?
Beano Cook (3:46 PM)
Every year would be a good year for a playoff. Right now, reality says we will not have a playoff. In 2014, around then, there will be a plus-one. That's just a prediction. The BCS is better than what we used to have. Remember that.
Jeff (Louisville Ky)
Hi Beano. Would you rather hang out with Newman in the post office or watch a Royals vs Indians baseball game?
Beano Cook (3:47 PM)
Believe me, hanging out with Newman in the post office, as long as he brings Kramer.
Kel (Columbus, Ohio)
Simple question...what is the media's issue with the big ten? Why do they feel the need to degrade everything the big ten does? For example this weekend if OSU beats Wisconsin this weekend it will be 'because the big ten is not good and doesn't boast much depth other than OSU.' If Wisconsin wins it will be 'because they beat a mediocre #1 team that moved up in the polls because they are in a mediocre conference'...what gives? The big ten is constantly put in no win situations because that is the way the media always portrays it regardless of the outcome.
Beano Cook (3:48 PM)
The media members have no issue with the Big Ten. It will eb interesting if ohio State and Michigan State both go 12-0.
should a school like fresno state be happy with the limited success they do have or be disappointed (ie. get rid of pat hill) that they play well against BCS teams, but then get destroyed by average WAC teams?
Beano Cook (3:50 PM)
Ask the Fresno State fans. It is a good observation and I cannot explain why.
Whats the chance of Dan Mullen pulling an upset on his old boss Urban Myer this weekend Beano?
Beano Cook (3:51 PM)
He would have a better chance in Starkville. I don't think Urban Meyer is in a good move after losing two games in a row.
Do you think Michigan will fall apart now that it has a loss?
Beano Cook (3:52 PM)
They probably will if they lose to Iowa this Saturday. They still have to go on the road against Wisconsin and Ohio State.
Beano Cook (3:53 PM)
Time for the pick. I am 3-3 for the season. Baylor is a slight favorite at Colorado. I am picking the Buffs, 28-14. See you next week.
