Adam Schefter (2:16 PM)
Hello, everybody, and thank you for stopping by another Friday afternoon chat before the Sunday games. Let's knock out as many questions as we can until 3 p.m.
Do you think there's any chance Bill Parcells comes back to the Cowboys?
Adam Schefter (2:16 PM)
Don't see that, Nick. See Parcells taking a year or two to unwind, and then getting back in as a consultant somewhere else, trying to rebuild another franchise. Not the Cowboys.
Adam, what do you think Jason Garrett brings to the table that Wade didn't?
Adam Schefter (2:18 PM)
Nick: Think he's going to attempt to change the culture, the atmosphere, the enviornment, everything surrounding the team. It's a little late in the season to try, but his head coaching job with the Cowboys is riding on it. Garrett must prove that he is worthy of being kept on as the head coach. Jerry Jones would like for Garrett to succeed and make his decision easy. But I don't think it will be easy for Garrett to do. Lots of holes to plug.
If not the Vikings, who do you believe wins the NFC North?
Adam Schefter (2:19 PM)
James: If Minnesota can find a way to win Sunday in Chicago -- and I don't think that is going to be easy at all -- then the Vikings could make a run. But I still think that Green Bay is the team to target in that division. The Packers are the team to beat right now.
Let me ask you about the 2011 NFL Draft. Regardless of where the Vikings sit in the draft, I believe they need to take a QB even though Tarvaris Jackson and Joe Webb remain on the roster after the season concludes. Do you agree? Also, if you agree that they should take a QB, which QB would you take?
Adam Schefter (2:20 PM)
Looks like they need to address the QB position in one way or another, James. Even if they believe in Jackson and Webb, it's tough to count on either quarterback for next season. Chances are, the Vikings will have to sign a free agent, trade for a veteran or draft another QB. But they can't go to camp next year with Jackson and Webb as No. 1 and No. 2 -- not if they plan to compete for the NFC North title.
Mbrogan (Hugheston WV)
Do you think Brett Favre will get suspended.
Adam Schefter (2:21 PM)
Don't think so, Mbrogan, but I also know the case isn't over yet and the NFL has not wrapped up its findings. Just have to see. There might be some form of discipline, a fine, something. But my guess is no suspension.
Andrew (Atwater, Ca) [via mobile]
Are the Raiders for real? Can they win the AFC West?
Adam Schefter (2:23 PM)
They're as real as their record, Andrew. Look, they've won three in a row. They may or may not win the AFC West. But there's one thing that's beyond debate. They're relevant again. They matter. It has been a long time since that were the case. Maybe they can win enough to capture the AFC West title. But even if they can't, they are for real and the season is enjoyable for Raiders fans once again. Been a while.
What do you think are the chances that Deangelo Williams resigns with Carolina? If not there, where do you think are some possible places he could land?
Adam Schefter (2:24 PM)
Jay: Ultimately, it will not surprise me if the Panthers put their franchise tag on DeAngelo and prevent him from going anywhere. Hard to imagine a team trying to accumulate talent letting one of its best players walk out the door and getting nothing in return. They've shown no inclination to sign him to a long-term deal so far, but the franchise tag always is in the Panthers' back pocket. Won't surprise me if they use it.
Joe S. (New York City)
I think it's kind of sad and a little pathetic with the way Rex Ryan loves making a fool of himself at press conferences. He should have more dignity and understand that the position of head coach is one of authority and discipline, though tempered with humor on occasion. Your thoughts?
Adam Schefter (2:26 PM)
That's one way of looking at it, Joe, and I understand your viewpoint. The other is that the game is entertainment, and no coach in the league is more entertaining than Rex Ryan. He helped make the Jets a contender last season, a must-watch on TV this preseason, and relevant this season. As long as he wins, he can come out dressed as his brother at any press conference he wants. It's not the way I would do the job, but I wouldn't be getting the results that Rex is with that team, either. And one thing that is beyond question: His players love playing for him. Love.

Will childress be back in Minnesota next year
Adam Schefter (2:28 PM)
Were it not for the four-year extension that he signed last season that runs through 2013, Evan, the feeling is that the Wilf family already would have made a change. If the Wilf family wants to eat the millions that they now owe Childress, then yes, a change will be made. If they're unwilling to spend the money, he will be back. All about the Wilf's money.

Is steven jacksons finger healed by the way I loved you on mike and mike you should have your own radio show
Adam Schefter (2:29 PM)
Healed enough for him to play and be a factor, Evan. Steven Jackson will be ready this weekend for the Niners, no matter how healed his finger is or isn't.
Brett (St. Louis)
How much credit does B.J. Raji deserve for the recent dominance of the Packers D? Obviously Clay Matthews is the best player on the defense, but Raji has been the one constant on the Packers fluctuating D-line. Also, is Raji on his way to becoming one of the best DTs in the league? He is obviously not in the same class as Wilfork, Hampton and Rogers, but with his recent play it appears he is on his way there.
Adam Schefter (2:30 PM)
Raji has been very, very good, Brett, and if the Packers keep winning, more and more people will keep noticing. But Matthews has gotten the headlines this year that Charles Woodson got last year, and deservedly so. But the more they win, the more attention everyone will get -- including Raji, who is playing very well.
Michael C. (Westport, CT)
So does Eric Mangini get an extension after the season? Also, how can the Browns lose like crazy early on and then start hammering great teams like the Saints & Pats?
Adam Schefter (2:33 PM)
Michael: Eric Mangini has done a tremendous job this season. Each time he beats one of those good teams, he makes it that much tougher for Mike Holmgren to fire him. The Browns have become one of the toughest outs in the league. And think back to last year -- early on, Cleveland was awful. Then, as the season progressed, the Browns got better and better to the point where they won their last four. Clearly some of Mangini's lessons took hold. Looks like it's happening again. Despite not throwing the ball effectively, this team is winning. And right now, that makes Mangini's return more and more likely.

If mcnabb leaves Washington after the season is there a Chance the vikings sign him
If Vince Young does start, how much of a risk is i that he finishes the game? I know it is hard to predict injuries, but he has left early because of this injury before.
Adam Schefter (2:36 PM)
DRTN: The Titans won't start Vince if they don't believe he is capable of finishing. Any quarterback that starts (short of Brett Favre or Peyton Manning) is at risk for not finishing the game. But Tennessee is basing its decision on whether to start Vince on whether he is healthy enough to play. Right now, it looks like he is.
Phil Dunderpants (Cali)
Hey Adam, what do you think about Mike Goodson?
Adam Schefter (2:38 PM)
We're going to find out, Phil. But what I don't like is that he is going to be playing with a rookie quarterback that hasn't shown he is capable of moving the ball this early in his career. Opposing defenses don't have to worry about Clausen beating them right now. It makes it easier for them to take away Goodson or whoever is running the football for Carolina.
Love your work Adam, I was wondering why the Buccaneers don't just let Legarrette Blount loose? I feel that the Caddy is washed up and Blount won't improve his receiving and pass-blocking skills unless they let him play every down. Your thoughts please?
Adam Schefter (2:40 PM)
Blount isn't ready to play every down yet, Nick, because of his pass protection skills. It will come in time, but anytime soon. Plus, Williams isn't washed up yet. And he is one of the real leaders of that team. Guy's got a lot of heart, and there's definitely a place for him. There's a place for more carries for Blount, too; he deserves them. But don't be so quick to dismiss a talented and proud player.
Jack (Richmond, VA)
Hey Adam. Looks like McNabb is gone after this year (waste of 2nd round draft choice). How about Marc Bulger in DC next year?
Adam Schefter (2:41 PM)
If McNabb is gone, Jack, and I'm not convinced he will be yet, then Washington would have to look at Bulger and any other available veteran. Why not? Baltimore has liked Bulger, been impressed with him, and I'd think Bulger would be able to get a starting job next season. Hello, Arizona???
RAYGORDONREID ( COLUMBIA SC 29202 )
QUESTION TO ADAM SCHEFTER AT 2.50 PM HI ADAM BEST NFC TEAM FALCONS OR GIANTS
Adam Schefter (2:41 PM)
Two good choices, Raygordonreid. AFter watching the Falcons last night, it's tough to pick against them. But based on what I've seen so far this season, the Giants are the NFC's best -- for whatever that's worth after eight weeks.
Am i crazy for thinking that with Shaun Hill back in the fold that the Lions can make a run at the NFC North assuming they beat the Bills and Cowboys the next 2 weeks, which they should
Adam Schefter (2:43 PM)
Danny: I really thought the Lions had a big second-half run in them, and they still might. I like that team. But they gave away that game last weekend, lost their franchise quarterback, and it's going to be tough to bounce back now with a 2-6 record. Had they won last week and stood at 3-5, I'd have liked their chances a lot better. Going to be real tough now, even though I do like Hill and this Lions team.
michael (florida )
Should we take Atlanta more serious at this point of the season?
Adam Schefter (2:45 PM)
Michael: Whoever wasn't taking the Falcons seriously wasn't paying attention. They're 7-2. Matt Ryan now is 18-1 at home. If they can get a first-round bye, that means they would be one home win away from the NFC Championship game. Hard not to take that seriously.
Andrew (New York City)
How long of a leash does Chad Pennington have down in Miami? If he struggles against the Titans on Sunday can you see Tony Sparano going back to Chad Henne for next Thursday's game against the Bears?
Adam Schefter (2:46 PM)
Don't see that, Andrew. Once the Dolphins bench Henne, they bench Henne, that's it. Tough to move on from that. I actually think we might see some of Tyler Thigpen before we see more of Chad Henne, but we'll see. When coaches make decisions like this, they want to give it a chance and stick with decisions like this.
Who do you predict will be in the Super Bowl?
Adam Schefter (2:47 PM)
Predictions are the easiest way to look foolish, James. The NFL landscape changes too much on a week-to-week basis, no less trying to figure out what it will look like in two-and-a-half months. But if I had to pick two teams today, it'd be hard not to go with Pittsburgh vs. the N.Y. Giants. Which means we'll probably get a San Diego vs. Philadelphia.
Nick (Middletown) [via mobile]
Fitzpatrick to Lee Evans for 2 TDs this weekend. Lock it up!
Adam Schefter (2:48 PM)
Fitzpatrick and Steve Johnson are two of the most underrated players in the league, Nick. Fitzpatrick to Evans twice won't surprise me.
Bill (New York)
Standard league fantasy question- Need 2 RBs: S. Greene, B. Jacobs, K. Moreno, D. Brown. Which 2 do I play?
Adam Schefter (2:50 PM)
Can some consistent chat-room guests please fill in Bill how I feel about dispensing fantasy advice? Let me just say that last week, I dropped Ronnie Brown to start Darren Sproles. Sproles got zero points, Brown 15. Fantasy tips are hunches at best. No one knows for sure. Go with your gut, Bill.
Evan houston [via mobile]
Is Colt Mcoy the unquestionable starter in cleveland?
Everything I here suggests that the Panthers will not select a QB in the draft. Why?? Haven't these guys learned their lesson yet? Clausen and Pike aren't the answer so why would the Panthers neglect their passing game again?
Adam Schefter (2:51 PM)
Let's see what Clausen shows down the stretch, Peter. Carolina needs help in so many areas that it's impossible to say where they would go. But I would say the same thing to Carolina that I would to Buffalo or any team picking near the top of the draft. Hard to pass up a franchise quarterback if you believe in him.
Mike Fichera (Valhalla, NY)
Adam, can't listen on the radio during the day so please respond via email or blog. My thoughts....baseball has a fairly late trade deadline and for the most part adds a pretty good amount of intrigue during a season, the NFL's trade deadline does not. Could the new CBA possible address this? This season particularly, teams that thought they had a chance (Minn, Dallas) I'm sure have a player or two that would bring value down the stretch to Baltimore, Pitt, NE..etc. and return a 2nd or 3rd round to the trading team if for example the trade deadline was moved to weekend after Thanksgiving. Your thoughts?
Adam Schefter (2:53 PM)
I'd love to see the trade deadline pushed back, Mike. Makes so much sense. Have mentioned to many people over the years. But they don't want to give any teams any unfair advantages later in the year by pushing back the deadline. But there's one thing I'd like -- a later trade deadline with more action in and around it.
Hi Adam! Who starts at QB for these teams this weekend... Niners, Titans, Browns, Lions. Thanks!
Adam Schefter (2:54 PM)
Here you go, Rachel. My expected starters: Troy Smith for the 49ers, Vince Young for the Titans, Colt McCoy for the Browns, Shaun Hill for the Lions. And say hello to Brett in Hattiesburg for me.
Hey Adam. How does Steve Smith's injury affect the Giants this Sunday, and does it change the outcome of the game? And is there any chance the Giants won't win the division?
Adam Schefter (2:55 PM)
Sure there's a chance the Giants won't win the division, Max. New York has a rather significant game next Sunday against the Eagles, who they play two more times this season. Also play the Redskins twice. This division is a long way from over. And they're going to need back Steve Smith. Tom Coughlin said Smith won't play this week and might not be able to go next week, either.
Who is the best overall receiver in the NFL right now Adam? I say Calvin Johnson, my brother says Roddy White. Please settle our debate.
Adam Schefter (2:58 PM)
Adam: Calvin Johnson has more upside than Roddy White. But these days, my No. 1 receiver in the NFL is Roddy White. My No. 2 might just be Hakeem Nicks. And my No. 3 might be DeSean Jackson. And if Andre Johnson were healthy, he probably would be ahead of all of them. But these days, Roddy over Calvin.
Mal (Passaic NJ) [via mobile]
Adam, I'd like to first say, I love your work & think you are one of the very best in the bizz. With that said can you explain to me my Eagles aren't considered one of the best in the NFC?? We are 3-0 with Mike Vick & the defense is holding its own. Not to mention we gave Atl an old fashon "pat on the backside" with Kevin Kolb at the helm..
Adam Schefter (3:01 PM)
Thanks for the nice words, Mal. I've been aboard the Eagles bandwagon for a while. Thought they've been dangerous since the start of the season, when I picked them to go to the playoffs. But they're even better than I thought, and that's because of the speed that Vick brings. Makes them so dangerous. Think they're in a good spot. They have a chance to be there in the end.Anyway, thank you all for signing on and participating. Have a great weekend, enjoy the games Sunday, and don't forget to watch Sunday Countdown on ESPN at 11 a.m., and please follow me on Twitter @Adam_Schefter.Take care.adam
