KC Joyner (4:00 PM)
Good afternoon! Let's talk some fantasy football!
Pierre Thomas slowly Killing My Season (Boston)
Ugly RB#2 Question: D.Brown, Forte or sleeper M.Goodson? Any of these a good play?
KC Joyner (4:02 PM)
Didn't see question #1 but concur on the idea of Thomas' injury being a fantasy football killer - have him on three teams and all he's done is take up a bench spot. Play Forte, as the Vikings won't be able to stop him from catching passes.
Supernintendo Chalmers (Springfield)
Mr. Scientist using your supercomputer can you tell me if it is wise to accept a trade in which I get MoJo and trade away Maclin and Forte, keep in mind I can handle the receiving hit.
KC Joyner (4:04 PM)
Supercomputer and Supernintendo! Forte has a tough slate of run defenses coming up, so even though the price is high, it is a good deal (especially if you can take the Maclin hit).
Bill (Louisville KY)
Is Sidney Rice gonna pay off for the owners that have stashed him away all season?
KC Joyner (4:05 PM)
Only if the Vikings keep winning. If their season goes any further south, it would be a surprise to see them risk Rice's future by trying to get him out there now.
Homer Simpson (Springfield)
Would you trade Miles Austin for TO?
KC Joyner (4:06 PM)
Great question. Austin has the bad combination of a brutal CB schedule (the TFS start-sit charts have him facing five red rated CBs the rest of the year) and Kitna as his QB. Make the trade.
Thoughts on Manningham, if Steve Smith is out extended period?
KC Joyner (4:07 PM)
Ran a series of articles for ESPNNewYork.com reviewing the Giants metrics in multiple areas. Manningham had superb stats, so he should be able to post similar numbers to Smith.
Jamaal Charles (Denver)
I believe I play for you KC. Would you start me ahead of Peyton Hillis?
KC Joyner (4:08 PM)
Hillis does have a tougher matchup, but there are reports Charles is banged up. Got to go with Hillis even against a tough Jets run D.
Wes Welker (NE)
Any chance my numbers are going to go back up? Am I doomed for the rest of the year?
KC Joyner (4:09 PM)
Welker recently said his knee is still bothering him. Injured players don't tend to get better during the season, so the odds that his numbers go up are slim.
Thank You for telling me to stick with an "injured" Roddy over Dez in yesterdays chat!! I was thrilled watching that game. You da' man KC!
KC Joyner (4:09 PM)
Glad I could help! Bryant still will likely post some quality numbers, but probably not the 25 or so points White posted.
Play Orton or hill at qb?Will Floyd become useless when VJax comes back?
KC Joyner (4:10 PM)
Orton ranks one slot higher on the TFS QB start-sit charts (more info about which can be found at www.thefootballscientist.com). Floyd did a great job last year with Jackson in the lineup, no reason to think that will be any different this year.
KC! Am I panicking by trading Miles Austin and Zach Miller for Mike Wallace? ( I own Tamme)
KC Joyner (4:12 PM)
Austin is still going to post some really good numbers this year. Wallace will as well, but there is the concern that he only catches 3-5 passes per game. It might be best to stick with Austin with the idea things will get better with Garrett as HC.
Should I cut Steve Smith (CAR)? Does he do anything for fantasy owners the rest of the way?
KC Joyner (4:13 PM)
There are a number of quality WRs available in most leagues who should be able to post better totals than Steve Smith South. Get one of them before dropping him but don't hold back from picking them up on the premise his season improves.
Eddie (Hoboken, NJ)
KC, may I offer you some dining advice... Try and MLT tonight, a Mutton Lettuce and Tomato sandwich when the Mutton is just right.... my weekly matchup dilemma, Big Ben or Kyle Orton this week? I wish I could start both!
KC Joyner (4:14 PM)
That movie was comedy gold! Ben is the way to go, as the NE secondary will not hold up against the Steelers vertical passing attack.
Never thought I'd be asking this but Brady or Fitzpatrick at QB this week?
KC Joyner (4:15 PM)
Never thought I'd say to start Fitzpatrick over Brady but with Brady's injury and a road matchup at Pittsburgh, Fitzpatrick is the way to go.
KC, Always appreciate your work. Your matchup analysys WR's vs. CB's are always informative. With that said, Mike Thomas or Seattle Williams at WR this week?
KC Joyner (4:15 PM)
Thanks! Thomas is the way to go, as he will almost certainly face Kareem Jackson in coverage. Jackson is easily the worst starting CB in the NFL.
Ned Flanders (Springfield)
I'm in a dilly of a pickle. Start Mike Wallace or Randy Moss in a .5 ppr league?
KC Joyner (4:16 PM)
Simpsons seem to be the theme today! They both should have good games but a highly motivated Moss is the way to go.
I'm cursed with a solid lineup. Barring injury, I don't think I need to make another roster move or even change my starters for the rest of the season. Dare I say that I'm bored with my good fantasy team? What should I do to further my interest?
KC Joyner (4:18 PM)
Look at someone who has a fantasy team with a ton of injuries (had one team last week that had every single bench roster spot filled with players who were out that Sunday - first time that's ever happened!). See a situation like that and it makes one very thankful for having a good team!
Trying to spam the board, and STILL can't get through! LOL... you must be seeing a ridiculous number of questions! KC... HELP ME OUT, PLEASE? I want to drop Ausin, and pickup Floyd... good more, or bad?
KC Joyner (4:20 PM)
Spamming the board isn't the way to go, Rich! And I do get a lot of questions - try to answer as many as possible! Austin for Floyd is a lateral move - don't do it. But do try to find someone else on your roster to drop for Floyd, as he is going to make a good run down the road.
Jimmy N (Arlington)
KC! Thanks for the SAAAAAGE advice to stick to my guns and start Ryan/White AND Matt Bryant.... the 3 combined for 66 pts for us last night! You the man KCJ!!!
KC Joyner (4:20 PM)
Jimmy, glad I could help return the favor for posting every week!
Nathan (San Jose, CA)
In a PPR this week, do you like Mike Thomas or Lee Evans better?
KC Joyner (4:21 PM)
Thomas. I can't say this enough - Thomas has a great chance to be this week's Seyi Ajirotutu. Kareem Jackson cannot cover anyone and he will be targeted early, often and vertically.
KC......after you finish your Mutton could you give your opinion on holding on to Z Miller and Tammie
KC Joyner (4:22 PM)
The MLT was superb! Both TEs are going to have good seasons the rest of the way. It would be great to keep both but given the dearth of quality TE options, you might be able to draw good trade value for one of them.
DUFFMAN needs to start either Blount or Torain. OH YEAH!
KC Joyner (4:23 PM)
Duffman rules! Go with Blount, as Torain is battling an injury.
Scott Bakula (Outside the Quantum Leap Accelerator)
Necessary Roughness was the greatest football movie ever (starring Sinbad). Who else should start this week? Steve Johnson, D. Bowe or J. Maclin?
KC Joyner (4:24 PM)
Mrs. Scientist is a big Scott Bakula and Quantum Leap fan. Count me in for North Dallas Forty as the best football movie of all time. Johnson has the toughest matchup of the three, so go with Bowe and Maclin.
Otto (out-of-control school bus)
So is Thomas a better play than Sims-Walker this week?
KC Joyner (4:25 PM)
MSW is still a good play, but he'll likely face Glover Quin this week. Quin is a pretty solid CB, so Thomas should be the focal point of that passing game. Go with Thomas for the upside potential.
Travis (Spring Lake, MI)
Chester Taylor vs. his former team, or Danny Woodhead vs. Pittsburgh?
KC Joyner (4:27 PM)
Tough call but Woodhead has been seeing the ball about 12-15 times per game. Taylor likely won't have that volume, so go Woodhead.
Mr. Burns " Excellent" (Orlando)
Got to start 2 of the 4 Miles Austin, Steve Johnson, Hines Ward, Mike Williams TB. Thanks
KC Joyner (4:28 PM)
Montgomery is great - love it when he can never remember Homer's name! Austin and Johnson are the way to go, as they have better matchups than the other two.
Comic Store Guy (Comic Store)
Greates....chat...ever. Marshall or Wallace in a ppr league? Forte/S.Moss/D.Brown in a .5 ppr league.
KC Joyner (4:30 PM)
Best...question...ever. Wallace over Marshall, as he will hit a big pass this week. Forte in a PPR league.
Groundskeeper Willie (philly)
Acch!! Friday Night Lights gets my vote for best football movie. Davone Bess or Nate Washington?
KC Joyner (4:30 PM)
Would you believe I've never seen that film? Got to add that to the movie night with Mrs. Scientist. Washington is the way to go, as he should see a lot of the coverage liability that is Sean Smith.
You seem to be much higher on Austin than most I have read. Would you deal Lesean McCoy for him if McCoy was a backup on your team and you needed a better 3rd WR?
KC Joyner (4:32 PM)
In 2009, Austin was the best WR in the NFL. Kitna is a liability, but Garrett is a superb playcaller and will find ways to get Austin the ball. He'll have a good enough season to justify trading McCoy for him.
Hopper (Funny guy)
I guess you got be funny guy to have question answer here huh? I be funny man too. Funny for starting T Jones over R Brown or Torain...
KC Joyner (4:33 PM)
Humor will almost always get a question posted. Torain is hurt, Brown isn't producing and Jones has the Denver D this week. Sounds like a good move.
Thinking about trading Peyton Manning for McFadden. I have Vick and wouldn't mind some help at RB. Should I be able to get more for Manning? Any recommendation of who to target?
KC Joyner (4:35 PM)
If you are about to head into the playoffs with Vick as your only fantasy QB, don't make the trade. Vick could easily get injured again and having Peyton to back him up would be a huge plus. Plus, there are games where you could easily justify starting Peyton over Vick.
With the meaty matchup against the Texans, would you start both Thomas and Sims-Walker?
KC Joyner (4:36 PM)
Depends on who else is available, but don't rule the move out because they are Jaguars wideouts.
Monty Python and (The Holy Grail)
Tell me that is not one of the best comedies ever!!! With Steve Smith out, should I flex with Best or Holmes? Watch out for the Killer Rabbit!
KC Joyner (4:37 PM)
The Holy Grail and Life of Brian are definitely TFS favorites! Go with Best - Buffalo's D hasn't been able to stop anyone this year.
Al Calavicci (with Sam Beckett)
Is it a Quantum Leap to start Holmes, R Moss & MSW this week while leaving Maclin
KC Joyner (4:38 PM)
Go with Maclin over MSW - he has the more favorable CB matchup.
In your belly (IL)
I've got a Tamme ache. Where do you think he'll end up in the final TE ranks barring injury?
KC Joyner (4:39 PM)
Very creative word usage! Tamme should be a top 10 TE for the rest of the year, not only because he's good but because the rest of the TE world is lagging in point production.
The book North Dallas Forty is infinitely better than the movie. Mike Thomas, Brayon Edwards or Amendola? .5 PPR
KC Joyner (4:41 PM)
Haven't had a chance to peruse the book, ought to given how great the movie is. Amendola has a tough CB matchup, Edwards might only catch 4-5 passes but could hit a long one, so he is the safest pick. Having said that, Thomas has the aforementioned upside value, so if you want to take the chance he posts a 20 point PPR league day, go for it.
You've helped me get this far....in Survivor, roll with Tampa this week to save NYG for the Jacksonville match-up...or roll with the G-Men over Dallas?
KC Joyner (4:43 PM)
Glad I could help! Tampa is the way to go, as the Giants are the type of team that can win just about any game (and TB isn't to that level just yet).
KC,I am desparate for a sleeper defense. My choices are KC, Indy, or Miami. Whose the best of these bad choices?
KC Joyner (4:44 PM)
Tough call, as they all have some issues. Indy ranks highest on the TFS start-sit charts, go with them.
Does anyone else think that Harvin just does not like to practice. The guy has something new every week. Sat him last week because of the ankle. Should he get the start this week? Your thoughts?
KC Joyner (4:45 PM)
With the numbers he is posting of late, Harvin is a guy who has to be in a fantasy starting lineup as long as he plays on Sunday. Can't bench him because he doesn't make it to practice (to paraphrase Iverson - it's just practice!)
You think reggie wayne starts to be a stud with all the injuries going on?
KC Joyner (4:47 PM)
Wayne leads the league in receptions right now, so pass volume isn't an issue. He just hasn't found the end zone much but that will change down the road as his matchups get better.
Brian Piccolo (Chi Town)
Would you trade Austin and Garcon for Megatron?
KC Joyner (4:49 PM)
It's good to remember him every football season (Piccolo, that is). That might be a bit much of a price to pay to get Megatron but with the way Johnson has been performing, it could easily be justified. Just be a bit concerned that Megatron has some difficult playoff CB matchups.
Sparky Anderson (the great beyond)
Seattle D vs Arizona or 49ers D vs St. Louis
KC Joyner (4:51 PM)
Sparky was great, thanks for giving him another shout out. TFS was a big 1984 Tigers fan and wonders why that team doesn't have more representation in Cooperstown. Tough call on the D, Seattle is probably the way to given the Cardinals QB woes.
Only 2 movies men are allowed to cry at. Brian's Song and Old Yeller
KC Joyner (4:52 PM)
Good movie advice!
Keeping up with Mike Thomas....he's available in my league. He's not worth dropping Welker and then playing over Wallace, right????
KC Joyner (4:53 PM)
You had me right up until the time you said to play him over Wallace. A case could be made for that, but Wallace vs. the NE secondary is a very good play. Only make that move if you feel you need to trade an almost sure double digit starter for someone who could, but isn't assured, of giving you 20 points.
Worst WR Question Ever! (twin cities, mn)
#2 WR - Burleson, Mike Thomas, or Holmes?
KC Joyner (4:54 PM)
All are good picks but Thomas has to be the way to go.
Mr Plow (Springfield)
KC, standard scoring, pick 2 please: Wallace, Burleson and Crabtree. I'm thinking to go with the first two...
KC Joyner (4:55 PM)
Crabtree has Ron Bartell on his schedule this week and Bartell is having a great year (check out this week's TFS article on the Rams). Going with the first two is the right move.
Coach to Norm: "Why dont you and Vera have any kids" Norm: "I can't coach". Coach: "Oh, that's too bad, why not?." Norm: "I look at Vera and I just can't."OK: Chiefs or Eagles? Thanks!
KC Joyner (4:57 PM)
Those two were the best reason to watch Cheers (well, that and the first girl on the series - I think it was Diane?)! Both teams are risky starts but the Eagles do have a better set of passing game matchups. Go with Philly.
Straight to the Point (Nowhere Witty)
Which two to play? Please help, been trying all year. Harvin, Wallace, Mike Williams South. Or I could drop Malcom Floyd (or one of the others) for Mike Thomas if you are as high on him as you sound. Have to win this week to stay in wild card contention. Thanks!
KC Joyner (4:58 PM)
Thanks for being persistent and direct! Wouldn't drop Floyd for Thomas given that Thomas is only a one week play and the three WRs you mentioned are all must start candidates this week. Harvin and Wallace top the list, so go with them.
KC Joyner (4:59 PM)
As long as Harvin plays, that is (obvious caveat).
Geico Pig (Weeeeeee-whe- whe-weeeeeeeeeee)
What do you think about having Floyd and VJax being on the same team, should I trade one? and which one?
KC Joyner (5:01 PM)
Mrs. Scientist hates that commercial (just wanted to get that in so I can help her vent). Don't worry about keeping them both - they posted terrific numbers last year when they were both in the lineup and that is a very likely scenario this year. Well, hate to run but dinner is almost ready. Quick FYI - you can follow my work on Twitter @kcjoynertfs. Hope to see you all next week!
