Good afternoon everyone...it's a great day to be in God's country...so let's get this partaaayyyy started!
mike p (danbury ct)
good afternoon, well stewart did not do a bad job, considering everyone else from 1 to 5 had a bad day,so 153 out but 50 points out of second, so should we go with martin mr phoenix or boyer,i hope to god harvick wins the next two races or at least phoenix gains ground for homestead, then bring there best car and gets either a win or top five. what do you think little detail please thanks.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:04 PM)
I like Martin quite a bit for this race Mike. He's struggled quite a bit this year, but they've been competitive with their flat track chassis program...Bowyer's coming on but I like Mark a little bit better..Harvick used to have it going on at Phoenix but last three races not so hot..The RCR shop is just down the road from me and they say they're going with chassis set-up that has made Burton bad fast at Phoenix lately and going for broke...that can be a good thing and then again...it could go the other way..but given how consistent Harvick has been in the Chase personally I think he rises to the occasion Sunday to make this thing interesting.
Hi Guru. What other tracks would be similar to Phoenix and would it be safe to say I could trust the driver results of those tracks to determine a lineup for this weekend?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:06 PM)
Certainly New Hampshire is one and I also think Martinsville..I'm doing a little studying on that for my weekly preview. That will be posted tonight and I'll bring that into further focus..I should also mention some crew chiefs believe if they can run strong at Richmond they can also be good at NH and Phoenix.
hows this team?48,5,42,33,20,29,14 anybody need go?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:09 PM)
Looks pretty good to me Dave. Logano has been hot lately and doing really well so as I look at this team don't really see any weak sisters there.
Mark, what is the square root of 12? Thanks.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:09 PM)
Max..you're killing me man..if you could have seen my algebra grade high school..you wouldn't torture me like that...lol.
RAY GORDON REID ( TEMPE AZ 85281)
COMMENT AT 3.25 TO MARK GURU GARROW WEDNESDAY GREETINGS ESPN NASCAR GURU WHO DOES THE ARIZONA GURU HAVE FOR SUNDAY
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:10 PM)
Okay..everybody the chat is official...Ray Gordon is in the house!
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Who do you think will win the Wypall 200 & the Kobolt Tools 500 at Phoenix?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:12 PM)
Well it's a flat track so I like Edwards a lot but I really see Kyle Busch coming back with a vengeance this week..he wins Saturday...Jimmie Johnson Sunday.
Which non-chaser will have the most value this weekend?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:13 PM)
I think Mark Martin is going to be right there and so will Ryan Newman...you'll also need to consider Montoya and Logano.
hey mark, can you please choose two drivers from the following list please: Hornish, Speed, Smith, Bill Elliott, R.Gordon, Kvapil, Gilliland, Mears, B.Labonte, and Almirola...just need two drivers from that list.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:16 PM)
Tough call Daniel but I would go with Smith and Hornish...at this point the Petty cars are on a truck owned by Roush Fenway in the infield at Texas Motor Speedway and until Roush gets a check cars won't be released so no telling what's going on right now with that group so while tempted to throw Almirola into the hat will have to take a wait and see attitude when it comes to the #9.
Keith (Downtown Missoula Mt,)
Guru what is the better choice 18 &31 or 14
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:18 PM)
I think Keith Tony's probably the safest pick..record lately not all that great at Phoenix but he had the car to beat at New Hampshire..Burton's been fast a lot of places and then you look up and he's got a lousy finish...Busch led a bunch of laps here in the spring but couldn't finish it off..
Nick Rolando (Orlando)
Mark, buddy hard to believe the end of the year is near. Thanksgiving and Christmas break around the corner. :) Anyways, my pre-lim for Phoenix is: 48-29-33-77, is that money?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:19 PM)
It could be money Nick if Hornish comes through. I'm pretty confident 48 is top-5 and potential winner with 29 and 33 top-10..Hornish has got to come through..He was 17th last fall and 18th this spring..It would be nice if I felt a little more comfortable he could better that, but I'm not that confident...Can you swap him for Logano?
Other thatn his spring run at Phoenix, Mark Martin has been average at short flat tracks this year (New Hampshire and Richmond). Will Martin have his typical strong finish at Phoenix on Sunday, or will we see the same sort of finishes from the other 4 races, seeing that he is bringing his New Hampshire Chassis?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:21 PM)
John, I think Martin will be good as I said a few minutes ago. Despite his struggles he continues to chalk up big numbers at Phoenix, a track he's super comfortable at because it's like many of the short tracks he cut his teeth on many moons ago.
2, 5, 33, or 99 this Sunday and why?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:25 PM)
I think all four will be pretty good, but I would rank Martin tops in this group. He's been top-5 in four of the last five at Phoenix including a win..In the last seven races his only two finishes outside the top-10 are 12th and 14th...so if he burns you he won't burn you that bad..2,33, and 99 don't really come close to those numbers
John Pardue (North Wilkesboro, NC)
Guru, anyone who you would switch for any of these drivers at Phoenix? A drivers 11-48, B drivers 31,33,39,1, C drivers 43 or 78. Thanks for the help! You are the man.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:27 PM)
I certinaly like 48 and 11 in that order...as for the "B" drivers..I'd rate them 33,39,31,1..."C" drivers 43 then 78...But again remember 43 car might not show up in Phoenix...I think chances are they probably will but right now that is a question mark and we all need to all take that into consideration.
so how did you like that fight between the jeffand the jeff show i thought they did to put in the wwe ring their for a little bit the way they where going at it did't you thing so.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:29 PM)
I thought it was pretty neat Scott..I watched in slow motion and after Gordon tried to throw headlock on Burton and missed he balled up like he was going to throw an upper cut but decided against it...now it would have been "on" then..made the race a little more interesting I can tell you that.
Who's ur top 5 for Sunday? Do u think Mark can pull the upset & win. People are saying he is the one to keep an eye on. The man hasnt finished lower than 14th since New Hamsphire.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:31 PM)
Marybeth..I think Mark could be in the top-5 mix...I'm going to have my pre-race top-30 rankings coming out with my preview on the ESPN fantasy racing home page a little later tonight..but I like 48,11,29,5, and probably the 42 for my top-5.
What tracks are comparble to Homestead ?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:32 PM)
I think the recent races at Kansas, Charlotte, and Texas would be of some help as you look ahead to Homestead.
John (ZHills, FL)
This weekend at Phoenix, do you think Kurt Busch will pay back Jimmie Johnson for a season of cheap shots? Nevertheless, I'm not chancing it with Johnson on my fantasy team. Go get'em Kurt
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:33 PM)
No, I don't think that's going to happen because no driver wants to take out another driver to cost them the championship..the shoe could be on the other foot some day and it's just not cool driver etiquette. Jimmie's coming loaded for bear and he and Hamlin are likely to go toe to toe.
Marybeth (Philly )
will smoke get out of his funk on sunday. since his win at fontana he hasnt finished in the top 10.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:34 PM)
Yeah his stats have really stunk up the joint..but he's won at Phoenix before...loves the place and again had the car to beat at Loudon and that should put him in pretty good shape at Phoenix.
Truex or Allmendinger at Phoenix ?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:36 PM)
I think Allmendinger has been way more consistent on the flat tracks this year ..but will he have a car to drive at Phoenix that's a question right now..Again, I anticipate it will get worked out, but you never know.
Which 2 from this list do you suggest to run at Phoenix :31, 20, 1, 47, 00, 56, 88, 83, 6Thanks !
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:39 PM)
Given how up and down Burton has been lately..I would probably go with the 20, and the 47..they were 10th and 11th at Phoenix in the spring..
Marybeth (Philly )
where are ur top 30 pre-race rankings
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:40 PM)
Again, going to post them with my pre-race preview tonight on the ESPN fantasy racing home page..you can find it at...http://games.espn.go.com/stockcar/en/frontpage
2 races 4 drivers, please pick 2 for each race. 48,11,39,99
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:40 PM)
Norcal Mike (Cali)
Long shot to get in Top 20 maybe Top 15? Labonte, Kvapil, R. Gordon, Gilliland??
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:41 PM)
About the only guy here with a shot to do it is Robby Gordon.
2 races with these drivers left, please pick 2 for each race ,1 Harvick ,2 Mcmurrays, 1 Logano, 1 Bowyer,1 Dinger ,1 Ambrose, 2 Truex
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:42 PM)
Dinger, Ambrose at Phoenix....Harvick,Logano at Homestead....
Mark, could you rank these drivers for me please? 2,31,33,17
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:43 PM)
33,17,31,2..that's the way I see them now Jamie.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:48 PM)
I just think Allmendinger is better on tracks where aero isn't as big a deal and he can make up some of the car's shortcomings by getting up on the wheel...Logano looked really good at Texas and that should translate well to Homestead..I guess I would also put Bowyer ahead of 'Dinger at Phoenix, matching him up with Ambrose.
Boo Bees ( . )( . )
I don't have a question, just a cool place to be from. Vroom, vroom!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:49 PM)
oops...just got the joke...funneeeee...sure wished I had got that before I posted it..lol..
lol, Boo Bees Funny.Think Harvick will be a better pick at Homestead than Phoenix as far as scoring more points ?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:54 PM)
Harvick used to have Phoenix down pat, but has struggled recently..I've talked with him several times lately about Homestead and he is pumped about the car and set-up he's going down there and had a car nearly good enough to win the season-finale last year.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (4:01 PM)
Well, I guess that's going to do it for today...don't forget to check out my preview on the ESPN Stock Car Challenge home page..it will be posted tonight...also our race day chat from Phoenix will come your way at 11:30 eastern time this Sunday morning...So, until then have a great week and I hope this force is with you...and sadly it must be said again..."The Guru has left the building!"
