Jim McCormick (2:59 PM)
Playoff time. Let's go...
Hey Jim, I'm desperate at the D position this week. I have the Packers D but they face the Pats on the road. Only Ds available on the wire are Houston, Denver and Jacksonville. Should I cross my fingers and go with the Pack?
Jim McCormick (3:00 PM)
I understand the fear of the Pats, it's legitimate, but these other options are literally among the worst in the whole league. I'd still hope that the Pack could muster some pressure, net some sacks. If these are the only three, I can't see making a switch.
Tim Hightower (Arizona)
How do you think Ill do this week? Good enough to start over Rashard Mendenhall or Matt Forte?
Jim McCormick (3:02 PM)
I would consider him over both in a PPR format, but only over Forte in standard scoring. Mendy is in a tough spot, but a short score remains possible to go with some respectable yardage.
Leon (Lancaster, KY)
If Rodgers is a go, run with him, or put in Garrard?
Jim McCormick (3:02 PM)
If he's a go I'd place him right back in the top five, but my gut says that you'll be starting Garrard.
Tough to sit your studs, but should Mendenhall sit down vs the Jets for Torain vs the Cowboys?
Jim McCormick (3:04 PM)
Now here's one where I'll go with the upstart over the expected stud. I just don't trust Hightower, or the Arizona offense, to be honest (per previous question). In this case, Torain just re-emerged as a force and Dallas was just run over by Philly to close out a crucial game. Expect Torain to top 100 once again.
Mike G (San Francisco)
Jim - Since you're the expert, play P-Willy tonight or grab someone else just in case?
Jim McCormick (3:05 PM)
Both relevant San Fran backers - Spikes and Willis, have hand injuries and will be playing with casted hands. I'd stick with Willis for a volume of tackles, as I expect San Diego to be in a position to run the game out.
James (Iowa (Snowed in))
Hey Jim, I could use your opinion on playoff waivers. Should consolation teams be allowed to make waiver claims? Also, someone mentioned this to me, but do 'most' leagues rotate commissioners? Thanks!
Jim McCormick (3:07 PM)
Talked about this earlier in the week - consolation teams shouldn't be making moves, in my opinion. That player pool should be for the playoff teams, with consolation teams competing with their fixed rosters. Not sure what most leagues do, but the majority of leagues I've been in over the years have a fixed commish, unless someone steps down or passes it off.
Webb-footed (Across the Pond)
I'd love to hear your take on Joe Webb. He's got WR eligibility in one league I'm in, and while he is a risk, I've got two other risks in Vincent Jackson and Mike Wallace (vs. Jets) in my lineup. Any chance you'd plug Webb in, if he does start?
Jim McCormick (3:10 PM)
Lots of Joe Webb queries coming in, all dealing with his dual eligibility in some fantasy formats as both a QB and a WR. It's interesting to consider plugging him in as third wideout or flex, given that a poor fantasy performance from a QB often bests what a third wideout provides. At the same time, there's a risk in him having multiple turnovers and potentially harming your score. In your case, I'd consider Webb over Wallace as the Revis factor looms large, and is a legitimate concern for Wallace's production.
Jim, need playoff help today!! Go with SD tonight or ATL on Sunday?
Jim McCormick (3:12 PM)
The Atlanta pass defense is unimpressive, but their ability to build leads and exploit lesser teams remains attractive. That said, San Diego is the call here; they are in must-win mode and face a San Fran offense that while recently showed some life, has been inconsistent and sloppy at times.
Play Floyd even w/ Hammy Issue (Sitting Duck?)
Mighty tempting given the offense and the SF D, but are there still questions about his ability to produce even with a tender hammy? Or did he more or less answer that last week?
Jim McCormick (3:13 PM)
I think he essentially proved healthy last week, no clear setback has surfaced, and the short week kept him out on Wednesday. Chargers beat scribe tweeted this today: "For those asking re: Floyd, he should be OK. Him resting had something to do w/ it being short wk. But the hammy is obviously still tender."
Joe Addai limited yesterday, which is really sort of an upgrade. Do you think he plays this Sunday?
Jim McCormick (3:14 PM)
I couldn't trust Addai in a playoff scenario, not with other backs still present to compete with and how anemic the Indy running game was even when he was healthy.
Can't believe it's not Britter (Basement)
Better talent or better matchup? Who do I play Marshall or Britt?
Jim McCormick (3:15 PM)
I'd go with Britt. Reputations and contracts don't count in most fantasy leagues, and Britt had 8 targets last week and now faces an extremely generous pass defense.
Rookie QB. Sub-zero game time temperatures. Facing the #2 run defense in football. Lingering injury concerns. Is it crazy to sit Peterson for a guy like J. Stew who's played well the last couple weeks and has a juicy matchup?
Jim McCormick (3:17 PM)
I would go with Stewart. Call me crazy, call me Carl, but he's primed to put up huge numbers against a traveling Arizona team. Peterson is clearly an elite talent and sitting him seems blasphemous, but he's also subject to the matchup and to the eroding passing game.
Gray Hairs (Atlanta)
Rodgers is a big ?.......start Collins or Hassellback
Jim McCormick (3:19 PM)
I'm in the middle of the same quandary, and I'm going with Collins. I do like Hasselbeck, though, despite all the turnovers last week, as the Atlanta secondary can be had. But I prefer to go against that Houston defense that just lost it's best pass rusher and remains a sieve in the secondary.
ONE WORD ANSWER: Sit 1: Hightower, Fred Jax, or Forte?
Jim McCormick (3:20 PM)
Bill (Providence, RI)
Jim. Talk me off the ledge, cause I SWEAR TO GOD i'm going to start Blount over AP if you don't. Tough D, coming off an embarrassing loss, with J. (expletive) Webb at qb. AP's a beast, but it's hard to run through an entire team? Thanks.
Jim McCormick (3:22 PM)
While I just endorsed Stewart over AP, which still seems impossible to say, I would stick with AP over Blount. Just not as dedicated as a role as Stewart has enjoyed recently, with the touches fluctuating from the low teens into the twenties. I like Blount, would consider him a very solid number two back this week, with AP as a low-end number one type given his scenario.
RutgersESQ (courthouse steps)
I should be trying to negotiate a better deal for my client, but I can't focus on the case without knowing whether to start Blount, Hightower or Branch in my non-PPR flex?
Jim McCormick (3:23 PM)
I'd go with Blount here in a non-ppr.
I have amendola but I just picked up job webb (who has WR eligibility), should i play webb or actually play a WR?
Jim McCormick (3:23 PM)
At the Amendola level, I'm going with the weird Webb loophole.
D Up!!! Jim, Really value your opinion - Browns D at Bengals or Miami vs Buffalo and why? Thanks!!
Jim McCormick (3:25 PM)
The Browns give up yards on the ground but are stout to allowing scores via the run, and while Carson Palmer has been playing reckless for months now, I could see some points posting in a Ohio shootout of sorts. Miami, meanwhile, keeps the score low and is home to Cameron Wake, a force that is about to become a household name.
Free Tim Tebow!! (Pit of Despair = Invesco)
If you're playing a 3rd string QB at WR, seems definition of getting cute. Which 2 ACTUAL Wr's do I play - Nicks, Wayne, Calvin and Britt?
Jim McCormick (3:29 PM)
If that 3rd string QB was starting, it means that his potential is pretty high, even in a somewhat bad outing. Say Webb posts 180 total yards (kid can scramble, check out his long preseason scores), and one score, even in the face of multiple turnovers that's in the 10-point range. It's too cute if you are sitting sound options, but for those toggling between middling third wideouts, it makes sense to me. Per your actual wideouts - might have to sit Nicks if his injury limits him - check his Friday status to confirm. If he's a full participant and likely to take full snaps, I'd sit Britt in that case.
Stupid to start Michael Bush at Flex with McFadden as my #1? I did this last time they faced the Broncos and it paid off. Will it pay off again?
Jim McCormick (3:30 PM)
Clearly depends on your options, I know several readers emailed me this past week about starting both Jags backs and it seemed viable. It's best to diversify your backs if you can, so that you are not tied to just one offense. But it has been done, and it has worked, and yes, Denver's defense has checked out.
Darren (Dome-less Minneapolis)
Start Crabtree over Garcon at WR3 now that Collie is likely back?
Jim McCormick (3:32 PM)
Not against this San Diego defense, a group that has been stingy on opposing wideouts for much of the season. I'd prefer a smaller share of Manning's attention than a top target of Smith's, if Crabtree can even be considered that.
Brrrr. Forte or Tolbert? Tolbert or Forte?
Jim McCormick (3:34 PM)
I prefer Forte - he at least is in line for most of the work, even if he loses out on some goal line opps with Chester in place. Tolbert has been a really nice resource but with Mathews back in the mix his workload is diminished, and thus his potential.
Vjax or Lloyd?
Jim McCormick (3:35 PM)
I'd go with Jackson, Lloyd could disappear thanks to that Nnamdi character being healthy.
one word answer...sidney rice ,holmes or floyd
Jim McCormick (3:36 PM)
Fellow Jim (Work)
Need some advice from a wiser version of our name. At flex who do you like in a .5 ppr Branch, Torain, Britt or Stevie Johnson? All decent options with no clear cut winner in my book. Thanks!
Jim McCormick (3:36 PM)
Torain presents the greatest upside here, with Britt playing a close second.
Flacco or Collins?
Jim McCormick (3:37 PM)
Flacco, just a more reliable source and should be in somewhat of a shootout, as the Ravens' secondary is middling.
Joe (Decatur, GA)
Jason Campbell or Eli as Rodgers Replacements?
Jim McCormick (3:39 PM)
I'd honestly rather face the Denver defense than the Philly defense in this case, just seems like two different kinds of games awaiting these two QBs. Campbell should enjoy the freedom a strong running game affords him and the Denver defense has seemingly started their offseason. Eli, meanwhile, is due to be in a grind of a game that doesn't favor big numbers.
Need some help with keepers, they need to be round 5 picks and beyond. What 2 would you go with. Collie, Garcon, BJGE, Tolbert, Manningham or R. Bush?
Jim McCormick (3:41 PM)
Collie seems to have forged a stronger rapport than Garcon, and merits keeper status amongst this group. I'd likely look to Green-Ellis next, who should continue to be a touchdown fixture in New England and a solid second fantasy back.
What's your view on starting all high-risk/reward WRs? Something to worry about, or no big deal?
Jim McCormick (3:42 PM)
I generally like to lean towards the risky options that have payoff potential. Worry about real life, and just enjoy that you went for it in the playoffs.
Dimitrios (Athens, Greece)
Rapid Fire: Can only start 2 studs.MJD, Mcoy and DMC?
Jim McCormick (3:43 PM)
Sit McCoy, tough to do, but the Giants pose a threat to his production while these other options face inviting rush defenses.
Take a chance that Rodgers doesn't play and go with the Pats D or play the Chargers D tonight?
Jim McCormick (3:44 PM)
Interesting dilemma, and while I enjoy taking risks, I'd prefer to play the Chargers against a known quantity. New England certainly becomes a top option if Rodgers is deemed out, but that decision won't come until Saturday, it seems.
Jim I am not creative! I just need some IDP help. Pick one Spikes, Wake, Vilma, Dhani Jones?
Jim McCormick (3:45 PM)
Wake for the win; just has the highest upside and Fitzpatrick has been known to hold onto the ball (aka coverage sacks). Vilma is a safe second option as he'll be busy hunting down Rice.
Another keeper question....options and draft pick I would lose for keeping them.....Bradshaw(3), Dez(5), Stevie J(15), Lynch(15)
Jim McCormick (3:47 PM)
No sure how many you keep, but I'll order them; Dez, Bradshaw, Lynch and Johnson. All make for nice keepers, and while it's great to get solid returns from 15th rounders, it's also nice to stock up on known studs.
Danny (Erie, PA)
Start Webb in the flex over options like Starks, P Thomas or Jaravvis?
Jim McCormick (3:47 PM)
Yep, it's worth the risk for what could be a considerable return.
Ryan (San Bernadino)
I keep changing my name, but it isn't helping... Flex: Britt, Garcon, or Hightower? Defense: Oakland, Arizona, or Cleveland?
Jim McCormick (3:48 PM)
Go with Hightower and Oakland.
Chargers D or Jets D?.....R.Brown or R. Matthews who do you trust more this week?
Jim McCormick (3:49 PM)
The Steelers' offense has been weak, but I'd still prefer to face the 49ers with SD playing at home and in a short week. I prefer Brown, somehow, if only because the Buffalo rush defense is bad enough to make him look good.
James (Atlanta, GA)
Kevin Boss or Owen Daniels?
Jim McCormick (3:50 PM)
I'd go with Daniels, who seems to be finally emerging after a long recovery.
Cookie Monster (Mrs. Fields)
Lightning Round: Mathews or T Jones?
Jim McCormick (3:51 PM)
Speaking of risk/reward receivers, who do you like out of VJax, Holmes, and BMW? All have sizable question marks this week, frankly I'm scared to play any of them.
Jim McCormick (3:53 PM)
I like them all somewhat, with Jackson having the most upside with Rivers bound to look vertical. Holmes is a nice option but the regression of Sanchez has him secondary here. Big Mike is just an injury concern for me, but also has some considerable upside. I'd consider them in that order.
Jared Allen a better or worse play outdoors on MNF?
Jim McCormick (3:53 PM)
Could be better in that Cutler could struggle with finding guys open in adverse conditions (i.e. takes longer to get out of breaks).
Collie or Britt?
Jim McCormick (3:54 PM)
Britt, it's close, but I like his situation better.
Which Oakland WR gets Champ Bailey - Louis Murphy or Jacoby Ford?
Jim McCormick (3:55 PM)
This could be a case where Champ just sits on his side of the field and takes what comes his way, but if he were to follow I would think it would be Murphy, somehow the most polished of the Oakland receivers.
Would you bench Lloyd or Garcon for Webb?
Jim McCormick (3:56 PM)
I'd sit Lloyd, says more about the Nnamdi Asomugha factor than the upside of Webb. A healthy Nnamdi should be considered just as dangerous as Revis to a player's fantasy upside.
Jim McCormick (3:57 PM)
Thanks for checking in everyone, if you hit me up on Twitter @JMcCormickESPN I'll do my best to get to you. Good luck, see you on Sunday morning.
