KC Joyner (4:00 PM)
Good afternoon! Let's talk some football!
BSB (Sending this as I flee the office...)
Merry Christmas KC! I am having a hard time believing Cousins is an Elite QB. Is this a case where the metrics say one thing but the scouting eye says another? Does your scouting eye really thing he is on the same level as Luck et al?
KC Joyner (4:02 PM)
Get out of there, my friend, and have a very Merry Christmas! Regarding Cousins, he may not look as strong on the scouting side as he does the metric side, but one lesson I've learned over the years is when those two disagree, it is better to go with the metric side.
My fantasy hopes seem to be resting on the same thing now as at the start of the season: the knee of Maurice Jones-Drew. Do you think it holds up enough to start him? I have a pretty good replacement in Blount, and can pick up Jennings. If MJD plays, do you start him over Blount? Blount over Jennings if he doesn't?
KC Joyner (4:03 PM)
Seattle's D really isn't very good so starting Blount over an injured MJD makes a lot of sense.
KC: First my sincerest Christmas wishes to you and yours and the regular visitors to this chat. I'd like to offer a present to all for this week: If you play fantasy football do not even consider starting or picking up Joe Webb.
KC Joyner (4:04 PM)
Merry Christmas to you as well, J.B.! And thanks for the fantasy football gift!
How many rings does Matt Ryan have? How many records does he hold? Why am I surprised that ESPN jumps from player to player, depending on who is hot?
KC Joyner (4:05 PM)
It's odd that you are from Atlanta and say that. Of course, doubters of Ryan's will pull out the "he doesn't have any rings" argument. Only thing to say to that is that is in the past and right now Ryan is playing better than Brees.
BSB (When I think I am out they pull me back.)
Do you think we will ever have a day when a DT wins the league MVP. It seems like only Off skill players have a shot.
KC Joyner (4:06 PM)
We'll have to jump in a time machine and go back to the early 1970s. Alan Page won an MVP in either 1971 or 1972.
Santa Claus (Workshop)
KC, the rest of my team is all set, but I need some help at QB...Cutler, Big Ben, or Cassel?
KC Joyner (4:08 PM)
This is a tough time of year for Santa to manage his fantasy roster. More than glad to help out! Would go with Ben on that one. Now just make sure Civilization 5 makes it under the Christmas tree, will ya?!
Does Matt Ryan's better running game allow him not to have to make as many passing decisions because he is throwing the ball less than Drew Brees (relating to your insider comparison piece)?
KC Joyner (4:09 PM)
He's only throwing about four fewer passes per game than Ryan. It might make something of a difference but Brees' bad decision rate is actually where it normally has been over the years. He's a risk taker and those risks normally pay off with significant production increases but this year they haven't paid off as well.
Have to say, KC, I'm a bit unnerved by the McNabb situation in Washington. I think they've already asked Kluwe to change his number in Minnesota and frankly, I really don't want him.
KC Joyner (4:12 PM)
It's odd how McNabb's reputation seems to be surviving all of these issues. He has a poor Super Bowl in Philly, is injury prone, gets benched last year and eventually traded to an in division team in part because the Eagles probably thought he couldn't do that much harm to them. He has a terrible 2010 season, gets benched multiple times and yet Shanahan seems to be one taking the grief. McNabb is an aging QB who two organizations have given up on. If the Vikings move to pick him up, it is a very bad sign.
Hey KC, do you think the editors make up these headlines for your articles so they can laugh when all the angry luddites come screaming about your latest metrics based "bashing" of their star player?
KC Joyner (4:14 PM)
Dan, I can't speak for the editors but I imagine their main goal with a headline is to craft a few words that draw a reader's attention while accurately reflect what is in the story. The headline of Ryan being better than Brees is exactly what that Insider article says, so the headline is entirely apt and accurate.
Clark Griswold (Christmas Vacation)
Can I refill your eggnog for you? Get you something to eat? Drive you out to the middle of nowhere and leave you for dead? What are the chances Daily Show gets 100 and a score tonight? Roll with him over the likes of T Jones, R Brown, M Lynch or R Mathews?
KC Joyner (4:15 PM)
Clark Griswold rules! Daily Show is a risky start tonight even with Polamalu out. Would probably go with Mathews over him given how injury riddled the Bengals D is.
KC, Brees led the Saints to NFC championship game in 2006, with TW0 rookies as his leading recievers, Brees threw for 5,000 yards in 2008 and no one had 1,000 yards receiving. Throw in a Super Bowl MVP last season, and I'll take Drew Breeeeeeeeeeeeessssssss!!!!!!! You can have Matt Ryan.
KC Joyner (4:17 PM)
David, I'd take the 2006, 2008 or 2009 Brees over both the 2010 versions of Ryan and Brees. The point of the article is that the 2010 versions of these two favor Ryan.
Well to be honest thanks to the Moss Debacle, McNabb may be the Vikes only option next season unless the Eagles are willing to take a 1st round and a 4th round pick for Kolb.
KC Joyner (4:18 PM)
The Vikings should be able to get a good young QB even if the Eagles price is unreasonable. There are four quality first-round caliber QBs this season and the Vikings record assures they should be able to get one of those.
KC help me defeat Skeletor one last time. Would Wallace get the nod over any of my other three WR, Jennings, Nicks, D. Jackson?
KC Joyner (4:20 PM)
It's no Heman, it's He-Man. A strong case could be made to start him over Nicks, as Nicks is due to face Tramon Williams, one of the best CBs in the league.
If Denver has a chance in the draft to pick Luck, should they?
KC Joyner (4:21 PM)
In a word, absolutely. Tebow is very likely never going to develop into a top QB. Luck looks pro-ready right now.
Mrs. Claus (North Pole)
KC, playing Santa in the big game and need to pick a QB. Would you go with Rodgers or Ryan? Worried about the concussion, and the possibility of Ryan being pulled. P.S., I just saw Santa package up Civ 5 for you, so don't let him hold that over your head.
KC Joyner (4:23 PM)
Would not worry about the concussion for Rodgers. He's second only to Vick in consistent elite play at QB and has to be the starter as long as he is playing. And tell Santa thanks very much for Civ! My eldest and I will have a ton of fun with that.
Greetings KC, I've got somewhat of a brainfreeze and can't think of any creative way of asking this. In a 6pt TD league do I go with Eli, Big Ben, Freeman, Garrard, or Cassel?
KC Joyner (4:25 PM)
That's OK - this is a busy week for everyone and brain freezes are part and parcel of the day. I really like a lot of those matchups. Freeman and Garrard face the weakest defenses, so go with one of them (Freeman probably being the better choice).
KC Joyner (4:25 PM)
Will probably be answering a few more fantasy questions than usual because there won't be a chat tomorrow.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year KC. Thanks for all your hard work and advice this year
KC Joyner (4:25 PM)
Same to you, Kmac! And thanks for contributing to the chats this year!
I'm an Eagles fan and was wondering who would get your MVP vote and why?
KC Joyner (4:26 PM)
Brady over Vick in that one because he's more consistent. As great as the comeback was last week, it only happened after the Eagles played poorly for three quarters. That isn't a good thing and has to be accounted for in some fashion.
What do you think of Mallett's skill set? I think he's got an arm that has throws in it that some current QBs would kill for. That being said, I think he's got an ego because of it, too, and tries to force throws he shouldn't. Your take on him? That being said - 49ers fan here, and I'd LOVE to have him.
KC Joyner (4:27 PM)
Biggest issue with Mallett is whether or not he can handle big game pressure. His road record has been so-so and he also collapsed late in the Alabama game. Not saying he is incapable of big game play but it is a concern at the moment.
Zach (Bronx, NY)
In order to be a SB contender next year, my sorry Houston Texans need to...(3 reccomendations, I know it's asking a lot, but be generous, it's the holliday season)
KC Joyner (4:28 PM)
Hate to say it but a new head coach, a new defensive scheme and better safety play.
Fair enough, KC, but one key component in the Brees" of seasons past was Reggie Bush, whom he has not had for much of the season, and Bush does not seem quite right, yet. Atlanta has this season what the Saints had last season, Most " tough" games at home, relatively healthy all season, and a lot of " luck". I still can't wait to bet on the Saints when they meet in round 2 of the playoffs.
KC Joyner (4:30 PM)
Not to keep this going, but why do people feel compelled to give Brees excuses? He hasn't played as well this year as in past years and those years weren't all injury free.
Cool, I can ask a FFL question: First week of a two-week championship round, KC. I'm starting the Law Firm and Mendenhall for sure but I have one last RB spot available. I was thinking about sitting Hillis this week in favor of LeGarrette Blount. It's a PPR league but I think Hillis is running out of steam while Blount has a full head of it going. WWKCD?
KC Joyner (4:32 PM)
If ever there were a week to consider Blount over Hillis, this might be it. The Ravens have it in their heads to stop Hillis and Blount has a very weak Seattle D that is making a cross country trip. The odds say Blount is the better play.
Big debate among Bear's fans is what does Urlacher need to do to be a HOF lock?
KC Joyner (4:32 PM)
Isn't he one already? If not, more postseason success wouldn't hurt.
Eric (San Jose)
What's wrong with Singletary? He still can't pick a QB!
KC Joyner (4:33 PM)
Who would have thought indecisiveness would be a trait Mike Singletary would display?
Chris Gamble (I'm OUT - isn't that great for wallace??)
Why do all the rankings have Britt over Wallace? Panthers pass def overrated, gamble out, why no love for wallace tonight?
KC Joyner (4:35 PM)
It might be that Gamble isn't very good in the first place so having him out might not be a bad thing for Carolina. Having said that, Captain Munnerlyn hasn't exactly had a great season (he almost was downgraded to a green rating on the TFS charts). I'll have Wallace as a must start on this week's start-sit charts (which, by the way, will be released a bit later today - want to get a look at the latest injury reports).
You said Rodgers was second only to Vick, did you mean in the NFC? Because I find it hard to believe either of those guys has been more consistently elite this season than Brady.
KC Joyner (4:37 PM)
In a fantasy football sense. Brady has been much better of late in the fantasy point realm but earlier on he wasn't dominant. Rodgers and Vick have both been consistently dominant in that area.
NYG vs. GB - who ya got?
KC Joyner (4:39 PM)
Very tough call. Am leaning towards the Giants because I believe they will respond well to last week's debacle, but don't bet the house on it.
i have wallace, and mendenhall should i play ben over garrard..
KC Joyner (4:40 PM)
Ben will have a good day but it very risky to put all of the fantasy eggs in one basket. Garrard has the very weak Washington D on his schedule, so put him in the lineup.
Mike (Danbury, CT)
I've been wondering for a while about where Eli's bad decision rate ranks against his previous years? I know a lot of his picks have been tipped, but it seems to me he has also made a ton of questionable decisions too...
KC Joyner (4:41 PM)
Eli has been hovering around or above the 3 percent bad decision mark all year long. A lot of his picks are due to tipped passes and the like, but a high rate like that means he is making too many mistakes as well (2 percent should be the goal).
Zach (Bronx, NY)
KC, I ask you for holliday reccomendations and you wanna fire everyone in Houston! Talk about coal in the stocking! Who's your recommendation for a new coach?
KC Joyner (4:45 PM)
Sorry, my friend, but that team is playing well below its talent level. As for a new coach, the recommendation would be Harbaugh. Stanford is the best coached team in college football and they play a pro-style offense. He's an NFL ready head coach and will make some team very happy they hired him. Well, hate to cut this a bit short but I had to reschedule a Friday radio interview for 4:45 today, so I've got to run. No chat tomorrow (sorry, holiday staffing issues). You can follow the TFS material on Twitter @kcjoynertfs. Hope to see you all next week and hope you have a very Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!
