Barry Melrose (2:33 PM)
Looking forward to Washington-Pittsburgh game tomorrow night. Its the last big game of 2010.
Hey Barry, what is the Leafs' master plan with Nazem Kadri?
Barry Melrose (2:34 PM)
I don't think they have one. If this kid is not going to play a lot in Toronto, he should be in the American League playing 30 minutes a night. You don't get better watching.
Alicia A (Los Angeles)
Do you think the Kings are done making trades or is there a bigger deal in the making?
Barry Melrose (2:35 PM)
The Kings have been very aggressive. They were in the Kovalchuk dealing. They got Marco Sturm. So if the Kings think they can make their team better, they've shown that they will be very aggressive.
how much does the pronger injury hurt Philly?
Barry Melrose (2:37 PM)
It certainly affects Philly and I think with their depth on defense, they will be able to weather the storm. If you're looking for a positive side to it, they will get a fresh rested pronger back near the end of the season for the playoff push.
In your time with Stamkos did you ever think he could develop into the player he is today?
Barry Melrose (2:38 PM)
Everyone thought he would be a very good player, but no I didn't think he would lead the NHL is goals in his second year.
who do you think the Penguins will play in the Cup this Year. thnx
Barry Melrose (2:40 PM)
I think Vancouver will win the West. They will be a team this is very tough to win against in a playoffs for mat. If Pittsburgh wins the East I think they will play the Vancouver.
How would you rate the job Dale Tallon is doing for the Panthers after 30+ games? Do you think the Panthers streak of chasing starting goalies will grow to four tonight?
Barry Melrose (2:41 PM)
I think Florida is on the right track. I didn't like the Horton deal but they are a big, young, good skating hockey club. And you have to be able to skate to play in today's NHL.
Hey Barry... are you starting to sweat based on your assertion last week that there is NO WAY Sid could ever challenge Gretz's streak of 51?
Barry Melrose (2:42 PM)
No! Don't forget Gretz's scored his goals in 39 games. Sidney has to score 24 goals in 10 games. Nobody is going to break that record in today's NHL.
In your opinion, which team has the best uniforms?
Barry Melrose (2:43 PM)
The Blackhawks. With all the other original six teams tied for second.
Will the blackhawks even make the playoffs this year? and how deep into it?
Barry Melrose (2:44 PM)
I think they will make the playoffs once they get Hossa and Kane back. They will be a very good team down the stretch. On paper this is still one of the best teams in the world. They are certainly capable of repeating.
How many wins will Corey Crawford get this year?
Barry Melrose (2:45 PM)
I will say 25, it depend on how Turco plays the rest of the season.
how could my blues get more goals in the net?
Barry Melrose (2:48 PM)
When a team is struggling, the offensive players must start putting the puck in the net to change things around. Also is you're struggling offensively, you better get a lot better defensively until things change.
When will Ovechkin score a goal??
Barry Melrose (2:50 PM)
That's the question of the year. I never thought I'd see Ovechkin go into January with under 15 goals. Obviously this has to change for Washington. The good news is the Caps and Ovechkin have played two good games in a row. Maybe Thursday night against Pittsburgh will be the jump start that Ovechkin needs.
Ryan (Germantown, MD)
Would you consider the Rangers a "sleeper" team?
Barry Melrose (2:52 PM)
Yeah they could be. I like them and the way they are playing. They are getting goals from a lot of different guys. They are winning without Gaborik having to have a hat trick every single game and they don't need Lundqvist to stop 50 goals every single night. I like this year's club much better than last year's club.
Barry, who is the hottest item going around this year come trade deadline? Also, who would you (as a coach or GM) target to get for sidney.
Barry Melrose (2:54 PM)
I would say anybody with the Devils, Islanders, Flames and Wild. There will be a lot of players available for underachieving teams with high pay roles.
Where does Lindstrom rank in all time defensemen? Also, has he done enough to be Co-Mayor of Hockeytown with Yzerman & Howe?
Barry Melrose (2:55 PM)
I think Lindstrom will be in that argument for the second, third, fourth best defenseman to ever play. Orr is number one but Lindstrom is in the argument for the next best.
If I am not mistaken, last year your projected the Blackhawks to win the Stanley Cup over Philly. And obviously that happened. What's your pick for this year?
Barry Melrose (2:57 PM)
At the start of the year I said Washington-Vancouver. Obviously Washington has not played well lately but I still think they are the most talented team in the East. And I still like Vancouver in the West.
Any chance the Avs make a deal for a goalie? They have no chance to advance deep in the playoffs with Anderson and Budaj between the pipes? Also, when will ESPN get hockey back?
Barry Melrose (2:58 PM)
I doubt it because I think they like their team. Anderson will probably be gone next year so if they can't resign him, which I doubt they can I think a goalie would be something that they will be searching for. But it would take a pretty sweet deal to pry those young players away from the Avs right now.
Barry Melrose (2:59 PM)
I wish like to wish the greatest sports fans in the world a Merry Christmas.
