AJ Mass (11:01 AM)
Time for another hour of fantasy chattage. Who shall join me in my second cup of coffee?
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Who do you think will play in Super Bowl XLV since the Saints,Colts,Eagles,& Chiefs are out?
AJ Mass (11:02 AM)
No need to change my selections of one week ago, Chris. Still looking at Packers v Patriots.
Will Cuse go undefeated?
AJ Mass (11:03 AM)
Highly doubtful, and it really doesn't matter. All you have to do is win as close to 20 as you can and get to the dance. After that, it is first team to six.
Who's your favorite to win tonight Auburn or Oregon? My money is on the ducks!!!
AJ Mass (11:05 AM)
Are they still playing college football? They've had over a month to prepare for Cam, so I go with the Ducks as well...
Coach K (Durham)
Win close to 20? I usually have that done by the end of January.
AJ Mass (11:06 AM)
Indeed you do. That's why we rarely worry about seeing you on the #1 line.
Sal (Lodi, Nj)
I have the first 2 picks in this years basball draft, besides Cabrera, Pujols, and Holliday who do you like this year? Can you name a few players? thanks.
AJ Mass (11:06 AM)
I'd go Albert 1, Carl 2, Doc 3.
Mike (San Diego)
For 17 weeks, I've gone in to the 8 am chat on Monday with some sort of emotion, whether it be happy, sad, or anxious to see what happens on Monday. Right now it just kind of feels empty. How long until baseball?
AJ Mass (11:08 AM)
About a month to one of our favorite four word phrases in the English language: Pitchers and Catchers report. My least favorite five-word phrase? Ladies and Gentlemen, Elton John!
Scherzer or Brett Anderson for 2011?
AJ Mass (11:09 AM)
Max for me, though right now as a No. 3-type.
V or the Cape?
AJ Mass (11:10 AM)
Didn't watch The Cape, but V is a big stink-bomb. Fringe is where it's at right now for sci-fi series.
Do you think Chris Coghlan is being overlook, especially if he may add CF and possibly some IF eligibility during the year?
AJ Mass (11:12 AM)
No. I think he's not going to produce much this season -- maybe 10 HR and 50 RBIs?
Thoughts on the Matt Garza pickup?
AJ Mass (11:14 AM)
Three straight seasons of fly ball % increase and a move to Wrigley? I like Garza as a No. 3, but not much more.
Mike (San Diego)
How much of a bump do you think Javy V going back to the NL East is going to give him in ADP this year? I hope not much because I see a bounce back year for him.
AJ Mass (11:17 AM)
Given the ridiculous HR/FB increase last season, there's bound to be some bounceback, but a large part of that was due to a little less zip on the fastball.
Early thoughts on keepers for next year in ppr league: Need 2: Vick, Foster or Andre Johnson?
AJ Mass (11:18 AM)
Way early... but I'd keep the two Texans and use one as a trade chip.
Keeper question...can keep Ryan Grant for a 8th round pick. You think he'll get his starting job back next year?
AJ Mass (11:20 AM)
As of now, it should be between Grant and Starks, and most likely some combo of the two. I'd guess 60-40 Grant right now.
Anna (New York Command Ship)
AJ, While you enjoy my bliss, can you tell me what you think Hideki Matsui will do in Oakland?
AJ Mass (11:21 AM)
Around the same numbers as last year I'd expect.
Ted Lilly is an even more extreme fly ball pitcher than Matt Garza and he succeeded in Chicago...why can't Garza who has better stuff top to bottom?
AJ Mass (11:24 AM)
Since when is being a top-30 pitcher in all of baseball "failing"? I merely point out that I wouldn't expect a drop to a 3.00 ERA as some over-exuberant fans may have suggested.
Feeling on where Beltre will rank among 3rd baseman next year?
AJ Mass (11:25 AM)
do you think Hillis will be a top 10 fantasy rb next season?
AJ Mass (11:26 AM)
Two fewer TDs and he might not have been this year... my guess would be no.
Alex (New Orleans)
Would you rank Trevor Cahill any higher in a non-K league, than you would in a K league... His ranking seems really low by some experts. This kid was awesome last year
AJ Mass (11:29 AM)
You mean if we take out a category he is poor in, does his value go up? Sure, I guess... Barely top-50 for me.
Where will Raul Ibanez be ranked in 2011? He hit .309 after '10s all star break.
AJ Mass (11:30 AM)
I'd slot him at the tail end of the top-75 hitters.
AJ, what is the main thing you look for when trying to determine the fantasy value difference between a 5x5 and points league? Opportunity...aka ABs? What players are more valuable in points leagues than 5x5?
AJ Mass (11:33 AM)
It depends on the point system, Garrett, and what constitutes negative value as well as positive value. Personally, I give a deduction in my valuation system for each at-bat to give an accurate measure of BA value. But, if all you get credit for are hits and there's no minus for outs, then more ABs is equivalent to more chance for value and probably takes a higher priority.
AJ Mass (11:34 AM)
I'd feel better about Britt with someone better than Kerry Collins, but I'm not sad if I have him. Certainly you're looking at two up-and-comers and could do far worse.
Thoughts on Andrew McCutchen this year?
AJ Mass (11:36 AM)
I think we're on the cusp of a breakout season. Top 25 is not out of the realm of possibility, given his 40 SB potential.
Can Pierre Garcon be a #1 WR next yr?
AJ Mass (11:38 AM)
Doubt it... his skills are way too erratic for my tastes, and Reggie isn't toast yet.
Will Hellickson be the ROY?
AJ Mass (11:40 AM)
I thought Jennings would get it last year, given the opportunity, and he didn't get chance. Now he will... so, got to stick with Desmond, brutha.
Why so serious?
AJ Mass (11:41 AM)
Have you been hanging out with Pink?
Knowshawn M. (Denver)
IS my stock rising or falling if Tebow remains the starter?
AJ Mass (11:42 AM)
Not sure Tebow does remain the starter... regardless, I'd say stock rising.
John Boy (Cincinnati)
Keeper question for a 2qb league: Aaron Rodgers (1st round) or Run DMC (6th)?
AJ Mass (11:42 AM)
In a 2 QB league, I keep the QB.
Good morning, I am in a 12 team keeper league (keep 8). My start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WRS, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 D. I plan to keep Schaub, Eli Manning, Bradshaw, Benson, R. White, R. Wayne, W. Welker. Who would be #8 on my team:Ronnie BrownBeanie WellsOchoCincoMike ThomasThanks
AJ Mass (11:43 AM)
I'd keep Mike Thomas.
Would you keep Miles Austin or Dez Bryant?
AJ Mass (11:44 AM)
Dez - much more upside and I think with Jason Garrett in control, he'll gear the offense to him moreso than Miles.
Franklin (Santa Cruz)
Where would you rank Hiroki Kuroda in the SP ranks? He seems very underrated for the stats he'll put on the board. His W/L record was poor last season, but his other stats were top 30 worthy. Do you agree??
AJ Mass (11:45 AM)
Not sure the W/L record gets any better this go-around, so while I do like him, there's a low ceiling. Rotation filler-outer at best.
Will there be riots on the off chance that Seattle hosts the NFC Championship?
AJ Mass (11:47 AM)
If we've learned anything from recent events, it's that we all need to chill... No riots necessary, but certainly I wouldn't be opposed to a straight 1-6 seeding of all teams who make post-season, which would have made a 7-9 Seattle team the #6.
Yes, another keeper question. . . . . (NJ)
I can't make up my mind between Dwayne Bowe in the 4th or Ahmad Bradshaw in the 5th round. My other keepers are Mendenhall and Mike Williams TB.
AJ Mass (11:48 AM)
Who is this Dwayne Bowe you speak of? I didn't notice him this weekend...
Ham Tyler (Space)
Help! Where's the Fifth Column when you need them?
AJ Mass (11:50 AM)
Easy pal... I'm trying to track down Martin and Donovan as we speak. Hang in there...
Maybe it's because Cassel didn't target him at all during the entire game. . . . .
AJ Mass (11:50 AM)
Chicken or egg? That's the problem.
Can we stop talking about re-seeding please. If Seattle lost, then Giants/Bucs fans could complain. Of course, it doesn't help things that the Saints don't know how to play road playoff football either. They didn't deserve a playoff spot since they can't win on the road in the playoffs. Win your division, if not, stop crying!
AJ Mass (11:52 AM)
I'm not saying Seattle shouldn't have gotten in... win your division and you get in. But there would be a lot fewer teams resting players in Week 17 if you might lose a home game to what is currently a locked-in Wild Card.
Jerome Simpson a breakout player next yr w/Chad & TO gone from Cinci?
AJ Mass (11:53 AM)
I like all the Cincy receivers... Simpson, Caldwell, Shipley... the problem is Carson and his ability to remain upright.
J E T S JETS JETS JETS!!!
AJ Mass (11:55 AM)
Well, I can't argue with that kind of logic.
from what i heard seattle is another big underdog this week,do you think they will cover against the bears?
AJ Mass (11:56 AM)
I don't pay attention to the spreads at all, but I wouldn't be surprised to see this one end up with a margin of victory around 8-12 points.
Anything Significant change you see or dont see w/upcoming 18 game schedules?
AJ Mass (11:58 AM)
That second bye week that might get thrown into the mix is going to force you to have deeper rosters... but other than that, I'm not expecting radical changes.
AJ Mass (11:59 AM)
That's the hour... where does the time go? You can always find me on Twitter... We'll be back on Friday for another hour of chattage, and in the words of the original V, "GO TELL YOUR FRIENDS!"
