Stevie (Dallas, TX)
Should the Cowboys resign Marion Barber? They have Felix Jones and Tashard Choice behind him, two younger, faster, and better runners that wouldn't require the Cowboys to give in as much for.
Mosley (12:02 PM)
I think it's time to move on from the Barber era. Go with Jones and Choice. And you think about drafting a RB late.
Matt, love the work. What are the Giants' plans with Smith and Kiwinuka? They have to bring back both guys, right? If not, which one will they let go?
Mosley (12:02 PM)
I think it's more likely that Smith comes back than Kiwi. But there's a definite interest in doing a one-year deal with Kiwanuka. He's a rare player in terms of versatility. Fewell wants him back. I know that for sure.
Steelers vs. Packers, who wins?
Mosley (12:03 PM)
Leaning toward the Packers at this very moment, but not sure I'm ready to make it official. I do think the Steelers' experience in dealing with this whole scene really helps. Won't be a lot of wide-eyed guys on that field.
Hi Matt, this is going to be the most watched Super Bowl of all time, right? Two of the oldest, winningest teams in the league, with huge nation-wide fanbases, duking it out in the biggest game of the year in the nicest stadium in the NFL?
Mosley (12:05 PM)
I think it will do a huge ratings number. But the Super Bowl's the one matchup where it doesn't totally matter which teams are playing. If you have a great game, you'll pull an amazing number. But sure, it helps that the Packers and Steelers have so much history and prestige.
Jim (East Rutherford)
In the preseason last year, you picked the Giants to make it to the Super Bowl. Are they even in the running for the division crown in 2011?
Mosley (12:07 PM)
You had to remind me of that right now, Jim? I think they'll definitely be in the running for the division crown. They had a 31-10 lead on the Eagles in the fourth quarter. If they finish that game, they win the division.
Brian Orakpo = candidate for DPOY, no?
Mosley (12:07 PM)
Based on this past season? I wouldn't think so at all. I thought he was pretty good, but certainly not DPOY good. His sacks actually fell off in the new scheme, although he does draw a lot of holding penalties.
Hi Matt, Donovan McNabb is the starting quarterback for the _____ in September?
Mosley (12:08 PM)
I thought JJ said Red Jesus was given control over the coaching staff..Yeah Right!!..Is there a reason why JJ has put the muzzle on Rob Ryan at the Senior Bowl by not letting the guy speak to the media...I see another unsuccessful season with "Coach Jerry" at the helm .....
Mosley (12:09 PM)
I think Jason Garrett came up under Nick Saban. He likes the one-voice approach that Bill Parcells has used over the years. We'll hear from Rob at some point. I may show up at the combine and try to spend some time with the man.
Mosley,Got here early for this question: If the great Dick Lebaeu decides to leave the Steelers, do you think Andy Reid would go after him? If this dream scenario happened, would Lebaeu insist on switching to a 3-4 defense?
Mosley (12:10 PM)
I think Andy Reid would let LeBeau do whatever he wanted to do. I can't imagine the Steelers letting him get away, though. Doesn't really seem like something the Rooneys would do. And LeBeau has entered his 70s, hasn't he? Not sure he wants to start with a new team at this point.
MM, please tell me JJ is crazy to think he is set at cornerback next year. Did he not watch the games from his suite !! Newman is over the hill and he only kept 3 real corners on the active roster. When do we draft one if not with the 1st round pick....??
Mosley (12:11 PM)
Maybe Jerry's just running a misdirection route on this one. But it certainly sounds like that optimism is starting to show up in his voice. And that's a scary thing coming off a 6-10 season.
Jc (Fort Myers Fl)
Hey Matt. We all know Reese has a blanket statement for all free agents on the open market but do you think he would consider Plaxico for real. I think it would be a great idea if he is in shape and ready to play cause no one on the open market or the draft has his skill set agree or disagree?
Mosley (12:12 PM)
I don't see it happening. Not after what he put this team through. Tom Coughlin still believes with all his heart that the Giants were returning to the Super Bowl if not for the Plax self-shooting. I don't think Tom's ready to welcome him back into that locker room.
Matt (New Jersey)
Matt, can we bring up Kevin Gilbride here? I understand (I guess, from what I've heard) that he's a real good X's and O's guy. But, his play-calling baffles me at times. Actually, a lot. I don't think our offense ever takes a real step forward towards being elite with him there. Why is this not brought up more? I'm not delusional...in regards to this at least. Thanks for the Beast coverage.
Mosley (12:14 PM)
I think Gilbride's first priority has to be figuring out how Eli Manning threw all those INTs. That's way more important than his playcalling. I don't have a huge problem with Gilbride's playcalling. But if Manning doesn't bounce back from all those mistakes, KG will be looking for a new gig after next season.
Matt, any chance the Giants get involved in the Aso bidding? He'd certainly be an upgrade to Webster.
Mosley (12:15 PM)
Jerry Reese will look into it, but I think the price will be a little steep. Eagles more desperate at CB than Giants at this point. Seems like the type of thing that Snyder would've loved to do back in the day in Wash, by the way.
NYGiants4Natic (North Jersey)
Hi Matt,Do you think with the 19th pick in the draft the Giants would consider Mark Ingram and let Jacobs walk. Also gun to your heard, (No Pun) do you see Plax back with the Jints next season
Mosley (12:17 PM)
I don't think Plax will be back. Mark Ingram's a player that Jerry Reese likes quite a bit, but I don't see him taking a RB in the first round. When you have a feature back who you found in the seventh round (Bradshaw), you don't feel compelled to land one in the first round. I think the Giants may take a long look at that OT from Wisconsin, Camrimi (sp?)
With the emergence of Jason Pierre-Paul, do you think the Giants can afford to let Mathias Kiwanuka hit free agency?
Mosley (12:18 PM)
I think they'll try to bring Kiwanuka back on a one-year deal if his neck heals. You just have to see how it plays out. Outstanding player who got hurt at the absolute worst time (contract year).
What do you expect the Skins to get for McNabb? Is a 4th possible?
Mosley (12:19 PM)
I don't think a lot of teams want to take on that contract. If he'll renegotiate, the Cardinals or Vikings might be willing to do a fourth.
Matt,Who is the starting QB for the Redskins next season? What about in 2-3 years? Best guess!
Mosley (12:20 PM)
Rex Grossman's your starter. But either Jake Locker or Cam Newtwon will be waiting in the wings.
If the Giants dont pick up plax, who do you think will?
Mosley (12:20 PM)
John Fox (Dove Valley)
Hey Mosley do you think that I can take Haynesworth off of Washington's hand with a 3rd rd pick?? He's been in Shanny's doghouse all season so why not?
Mosley (12:21 PM)
They'd pay for the moving expenses if you offered a third-round pick, John.
MJ (Long Island)
DeAngelo Hall gave up the most TDs, Most receptions and 2nd most yards of any CB ....#fun facts
Mosley (12:21 PM)
And he's starting in the Pro Bowl now that Samuel has backed out.
Matt, if the draft was held today, the Cowboys select....
Mosley (12:22 PM)
Prince from Nebraska. And they'll party like it's...
At this rate, is Andy Reid going to be the D-Coordinator for the Birds in 2011?
Mosley (12:23 PM)
Andy's a clever one. He was in Antigua conducting this secretive search. You will be surprised when the name comes out. And I may throw out a couple names this afternoon if anyone's interested.
steve (deland, fl)
what will the skins get for hayneworth and mcnabb in trades?
Mosley (12:25 PM)
Perhaps a fourth-rounder for Albert. McNabb will have to agree to renegotiate his deal. If he's willing to do that, look for the Cardinals to make a play for him. He already has a house there. And that team was starting Johnny Skelton down the stretch.
Robert (McAllen, Texas)
Hey Matt, maybe the Cowboy corners are playing so bad because the safties are really bad. Allen Ball does not come up front for run support and he does not cover. The same for Sensebaugh.
Mosley (12:26 PM)
You can throw out any excuse, Robert. The whole secondary played poorly. Cowboys still look GS. Al Ball is not a starter. And Darren Woodson tried to warn me on all this stuff.
Nnamdi Asomugha (Oakland)
Hey Matt, can philly really afford me and keep their guys happy too?
Mosley (12:27 PM)
They can afford you -- and they're not overly worried about keeping "their guys" happy. If they can land Aso and then get something done with DeSean Jackson, it will be a good start.
Jeff (Va Beach, VA)
How have Danny Smith and Jim Haslett retained their jobs? The 'Skins special teams is atrocious every year and Haslett turned a top-10 defense into one of the worst in franchise history (not to mention him having to resort to the UFL because his coaching "skills" were so toxic to NFL teams)
Mosley (12:31 PM)
I think you're being a little tough on Haslett. He wanted to be a head coach, and the UFL was the only one offering a gig at the time. He's not "toxic." I wrote a million times last offseason and no one wanted to hear it. The Skins didn't have the personnel to make the transition to a 3-4 (smoothly). You have to give the man more than one season before firing him. As for Danny Smith, I guess you could give him some credit for Brandon Banks' rise.
RAYGORDONREID ( DAYTON OHIO 45469)
QUESTION TO MAT MOSLEY AT 1230 PM HI MATT CUTLER OR CALEB HAINE QB BEARS NEXT YEAR
Mosley (12:32 PM)
Cutler. But Hanie does hail from one of my rival high schools (Forney) and he was pretty impressive when thrown into an almost impossible situation. Oh, and he's a FA.
Manny (San Francisco) [via mobile]
Where will Kevin kolb end up im hopeing 49ers?
Mosley (12:32 PM)
I don't think the Eagles really want to trade him, Manny.
Hi Matt, can philly keep everyone( Vick, DJax, McCoy) happy and bring Nnamdi in?
Mosley (12:33 PM)
As I said earlier, not everyone will be happy. Every team lives with that.
Keith (South Carolina)
Matt, I agree with you that you typically don't draft RB first round, but Ingram looks like the type of back the giants need, plays smart, lets the blocks set, doesn't fumble. One huge reason the giants missed the playoffs, turnovers. I think this would be a good pick.
Mosley (12:34 PM)
I think the Giants missed the playoffs because they gave up huge plays against the Eagles and Packers in back to back weeks. I'm not convinced they're a RB away from being a playoff lock.
Todd(PA) [via mobile]
What do you think of Spencer I'm not ready to give up on him but thought Parcells always said u can never have enough pass rushers. I think the Boys should take best available player at #9 which looks like a hybrid DE/OLB u see them doing this. I'd rather them take another pass rusher then cornerback.I truly blieve more pressure(plus better safety play)makes Jenkins Scandrick n Newman look that much better.n I do think Newman has a lot left.Thoughts?
Mosley (12:35 PM)
Not sure I agree on Newman at this point. Like the guy a lot, but he's a declining player. If I have a good pass-rusher and a top-flight CB, I'd go with the CB right now.
Hey Matt, just curious about your opinion on Ben Roethlisberger. I for one am sick of the media overhyping this guy. Why is he always put in the Brady, Manning, Brees catergory when he doesn't deserve it. His defense won those super bowls. His stats are atrocious, especially in the SB's. He was outplayed by Sanchez last week and his stats are in the middle tier of NFL QBs. What gives?
Mosley (12:37 PM)
I think you can't simply look at the stats with Big Ben. He makes huge plays when the Steelers absolutely have to have him. I understand how he played in that first Super Bowl, but he's won a lot of playoff games since then. This team feeds off his leadership. I think it's wrong to say the Steelers are only here because of their D. When the game's on the line, Big Ben's one of the best in the league. I don't know how you can argue with that.
chris (south carolina)
Aaron rodgers is unstoppable!!
Mosley (12:38 PM)
If you held the MVP vote right now, Rodgers would be breathing down Brady's neck.
Since Aso doesn't fit the Eagles Scheme, Do you think they will draft a CB in the first Round? Whats more pressing RT or CB?
Mosley (12:38 PM)
A great CB like that can fit in any scheme. It's wrong to suggest otherwise.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Do you think that Auburn QB Cam Netwon would be a perfect fit for the Washington Redskins?
Mosley (12:39 PM)
I don't think he's a perfect fit. I think he's a guy who might be pretty good two or three years down the road.
SHOULD THE COWBOYS TRADE ROMO FOR CARSON PALMER?
Mosley (12:39 PM)
Not in a million years. Palmer's body has taken a beating. And he's making a lot of poor decisions these days. He's no longer a top 10 quarterback, so I'd never do that deal.
Cheesehead Sports Nut (Chicago, IL)
If you had to build a franchise around Aaron Rodgers or Adrian Peterson who would you pick?
Mosley (12:40 PM)
Rodgers without even having to think about it.
hey matt.. do you think theres any way the redskins dont go qb or at least offense with our first pick? While our defense was terrible this past year.. there were only two games that our defense didnt give us a chance to win (phi 2nd time, nyg 2nd time). the offense is the main problem.
Mosley (12:43 PM)
I think the Skins will likely go QB. But there's certainly a chance they might go a different direction if their guy's already gone. This team desperately needs help at RB, O-line, D-line, WR and you can keep going with that. Shanny can't really get fixated on one position.
Jake (Austin, TX)
Matt, fantastic work as always. The Beast is lucky that have you. Now I know you mentioned Palmer possibly ending up at the Skins, which certainly has arguments either way. My question though would be how do you see the QB situation in the Beast shaking out?
Mosley (12:46 PM)
Mike Brown said he's not trading Palmer. I think the Skins will draft a QB (Newton or Locker) and then let them watch for a year. Rex Grossman may be the starter next season, as crazy as that might sound. Vick will be the starter for the Eagles and you know the rest of the division. The Eagles will keep Kolb, although that's not what he wants. Should be interesting.
Rank these QBs in 2011: McNabb, VY, Kolb, Palmer
Mosley (12:47 PM)
1. McNabb2. Palmer3 Kolb4. V.Y.
A lot of "ifs" but IF the reskins release Haynesworth and IF the Eagles were interested, how much of a "discount" would he have to give for them to afford him IF they somehow landed Nnamdi?
Mosley (12:48 PM)
He doesn't have to give them a discount. Why are you so worried about the Eagles' finances. They've spent big money on defensive players in the past (Samuel, Kearse). They'll be willing to do it again.
Andy (Manhattan Beach)
What will the skins receiving core look like next year?
Mosley (12:50 PM)
It better look a lot different than it does now. I think the Shanahan boys really like Santana Moss quite a bit. You'll have to go after someone in the draft. Everyone's talking QB, but what about Green?
If Amukamara and Peterson are both gone by the time Dallas picks do you see them taking a pass rusher?
Mosley (12:52 PM)
I don't think both of them will be gone. I think they may try to move down and take an O-lineman if both of those guys are gone.
Batman (New York, NY)
Hey Matt,The Giants defense seems like it is on the verge of being one of the more elite units in the league but is missing a piece. personally, I think a playmaking linebacker would cement this defense as one of the best and most feared around. Any chance the Gmen make a run at Chad Greenway or another free agent linebacker?
Mosley (12:53 PM)
Jerry Reese isn't afraid to throw around some money in FA. I like what Goff's done but the Giants need another LB. Or maybe Sintim's ready to become a player. But I wouldn't count on that. I like the way Greenway plays, sure.
Matt R (WI)
Just as Brady and Manning were the top QB's of the 00's, i believe Rodgers will be the top QB of the 10's, and tops in the league after Brady and Manning throw in the towel, somtime around 2015. Agree?
Mosley (12:56 PM)
I think Rodgers is playing like the best QB in the league RIGHT NOW. Pretty remarkable how he returned from that concussion and then drove this team to the Super Bowl. A lot of folks predicted he would be the MVP -- and now he's living up to all that hype. Just a phenomenal player. By the way, I wonder why Mike McCarthy isn't getting more praise in all this. We go nuts over Belichick and Rex Ryan. Seems like McCarthy deserves more props than he's receiving. OK, this has been wonderful. Please hold your applause. See you back here soon.
