Chat with Travis Hansen
Atlanta's second round selection (and 37st overall) Travis Hansen will chat online at 3:30 pm ET on Wednesday, July 16th.
Hansen is a 6-6, 210-pounder from Brigham Young University. The 25-year-old guard/forward spent his final years with the Cougars after starting his career at Utah Valley State College in 1996-97. Prior to attending BYU he served two years on a LDS mission in Santiago, Chile.
The team leader in scoring (16.8 ppg) and blocked shots last year, Hansen also ranked second in rebounding and assists, and was a consensus first team All-Mountain West Conference selection as well as the league's Co-Defensive Player of the Year with Marcus Banks of UNLV (now with the Boston Celtics). With that in mind, now's the time to get his feelings on making it to the big time!
Send in your questions now and get his early-season comparisons on life in the NBA and thoughts on what he needs to work on in the coming months to prepare for the next step in his basketball life.
Jon (alva)
Travis, What things you are working on to stand out from the rest of the guards on this summer league team to help yourself a spot on the roster when the regular season comes.
Travis Hansen (3:33 PM)
I am just trying to play my game. I want to contribute on defense especially.
Trevor(bountiful)
What was your first reaction when you found out you were being drafted by the Atlanta Hawks?
Travis Hansen (3:33 PM)
I was excited. I was disappointed in the fact that I thought I would go higher, but when I was drafted I felt good about the organization and the coaches.
Trevor(Bountiful)
What do you think your most difficult challenge will be in adjusting to the NBA?
Travis Hansen (3:34 PM)
Just playing with other guys, and seeing how they play. It's such a different game, and a much longer season. I just need the experience.
Justin(South Carolina)
Travis obviously taking two years off for a church mission must have been hard on your game, however do you feel that the mission experience may help you in the NBA? Good luck!
Travis Hansen (3:35 PM)
I definitely think it helped me...in life. It was a great experience to server on a mission. It helped me overall.
amélie nantes france
what do you think about Boris Diaw ? Do you have goods relationships with him ?
Travis Hansen (3:36 PM)
We have a great relationship. We are the two rookies on the team, so we hang out a lot. He is a great passer, and he knows how to play the game. It will be fun playing with him this year.
Brigen (London, Ontario)
Atlanta is coming off a disappointing season, how could you help them get into the playoffs this year?
Travis Hansen (3:37 PM)
I think I will contribute in any way I can. I want to play tough defense, which is the best way to get time as a rookie. I think we will do well this year.
Chris Beckstead (Houston)
Do you think your twin sisters can lead BYU women to a national championship?
Travis Hansen (3:38 PM)
I hope so! They have a great coach. My sisters are very good, so hopefully they can win a conference championship and then maybe a national championship.
Drew (Genoa, OH)
Travis, how do you feel you are meshing with Dan Dickau, and how different do you think it will be playing with JT?
Travis Hansen (3:39 PM)
Well, I am meshing with Dan Dickau right now. He's a great player. It will be a great experience playing with Jason Terry. He makes everyone better.
Britt (Los Alamos)
How is the family adjusting to your travel schedule? Can we expect you to grow your hair like Dickau?
Travis Hansen (3:40 PM)
My family is adjusting very well. It's hard on them to be away, but it's fun. Maybe I'll grow my hair like Dan or longer (laughs). We'll have a competition to see who can grow there hair out the longest.
Andrew Igo, Belmont
Whats up Travis? I saw you play monday night and I think you play awesome. I think you were very under-rated and I think the celtics should have taken you. And my question is do you think that being 25 you have a disadvantage to these young players coming out of high-school? I will see you saturday again, and good luck.
Travis Hansen (3:41 PM)
I think I don't have a disadvantage. I think it's a plus. I am more experienced and stronger. I am just looking forward to working hard and having a great NBA career.
Brandon, SLC
who has had the most influence or has helped you the most since you were drafted and have begun the process
Travis Hansen (3:42 PM)
My dad, and my coaches from BYU. Also, Brian Santiago. A lot of people have helped me get to where I am today.
Torey (Woodbridge, VA)
How are you enjoying Atlanta? Are there any players on your team that you have gotten close to?
Travis Hansen (3:43 PM)
I love Atlanta. My wife and I just found a place to live. I worked out with the team, and met them all. They are all great.
