Two great wins last night by Buffalo and Carolina in games they had to win.
Whats your take on the Betruzzi hit that went unpunished?
Barry Melrose (3:13 PM)
I thought he should have been suspended. If you look at his history, he's been in trouble before. It was a blatant elbow. He should sit out the minimum of two games or a max of five.

Why are the Chicago blackhawks struggling? Is it because of all the new players? Is it because they are so young? Do you know the reason?
Barry Melrose (3:14 PM)
No. They just haven't been able to play that disciplined style of play for long periods of time. It's like they think they will all of a sudden play the way they did last season. But as of late they are just playing .500 hockey.
Which team has the most will over skill that could put them deeper into the playoffs than expected?
Barry Melrose (3:15 PM)
Chicago is certainly one of those teams and so is Nashville. In the East, the NY Rangers could be a surprise.
Stu (Newport Beach)
Barry, who is your NHL MVP right now? And where do you see the Ducks finishing up in the west?
Barry Melrose (3:17 PM)
Oh boy! I always lean toward goaltenders. I think that's the most important position in sports. So I would look at Carey Price or Tim Thomas or Cam Ward.
Barry Melrose (3:17 PM)
I think the Ducks will finish 5th. I really like the way they are playing right now.
Mark (Los Angeles)
Are the Ducks becoming one of those teams "you don't want to face in the first round"?
Barry Melrose (3:18 PM)
Definitely. Very similar to a few years ago where they were the bottom seed and they upset the top seed. They have a couple of players that are playing great right now and they are getting good goaltending from Ray Emery.
What happen to Detroit last night? How much worry should this strike in the team? The fans?
Barry Melrose (3:19 PM)
Nothing, it could actually be good for Detroit. It could be a wakeup call. But that is one of those games where you throw the paper away and never look at it again.
Will Montreal still make the playoffs? They seem not to want to....
Barry Melrose (3:20 PM)
I think they will. I think they have enough cushions. The basically have to lose the rest of their games and Carolina would have to win out for that to happen.
Barry - welcome back! My only question is - WHERE YOU BEEN? We miss you!
Barry Melrose (3:22 PM)
I was doing college hockey. And I'll be doing the Frozen Four next week from St. Paul, Minnesota. Once that finishes up, I'll be back in Bristol for the NHL playoffs.
Barry, whos your Hart trophy winner? Corey Perry has to be at the top doesnt he? he leads the league in goals, top 5 in points, and has kept the Ducks in the West race without Getzlaf and Hiller for extended periods of time. He gets my vote thats for sure.
Barry Melrose (3:23 PM)
If I had to pick one right now it would have to be Tim Thomas from Boston. He's playing great right now.

Barry, what do you think the Wild will have to do to be contenders next season?
Barry Melrose (3:24 PM)
They have to somehow find some more scoring. They have good defense and their goaltending has been solid but their downfall has always been their offense. They need more scoring on that team.
How long of a suspension do you think Giordano should get for the knee on Bobby Ryan in the last seconds of last nights game?
Barry Melrose (3:25 PM)
That will be determined by past history and when it happened in the game. When it happens in the last minutes of the game, it makes it more serious.
Kimmo Timonen (Flyers Locker room.)
Hey Barry, how underrated do you think I am?
Barry Melrose (3:26 PM)
I always think you're one of the most underratted players in the NHL. I don't think you get your due because Chris Pronger is on the same team as you.
Cam Neely (Boston, MA)
If we don't make the ECF this year, I'm firing my GM...want the job?
Barry Melrose (3:27 PM)
I think both the GM and coach in Boston are solid. They are building a good team up there and they will be solid for years to come.
eastern conference melrose rank ...
Barry Melrose (3:28 PM)
I think you have the top four teams are very good. The bottom four are clearly below the top four. If I had to pick a team right now, it would be the Flyers.
Jim (Reston VA)
How good would pittsburgh be if they had Malkin and Crosby?
Barry Melrose (3:32 PM)
It's hard to believe that they would have more points than they have right now. But Crosby was playing so well when he got hurt that you would have thought they would win the ECF and the Stanley Cup.
Barry, rumor is Derek Roy is ahead of schedule in his rehab. How big of a difference can he make if he makes it back for the playoffs?
Barry Melrose (3:33 PM)
They said last night that he wouldn't be back until mid May. So they would have to win a couple of rounds before he is ready to come back.
Paul (levittown ,PA )
Out of the western confrerence in the Pacific Division witch out the for team's has the best over all chance to go to the cup?
Barry Melrose (3:34 PM)
Vancouver and it your talking Pacific, I would say Anaheim.
How do you think the Red Wings will do in the playoffs this year?
Barry Melrose (3:35 PM)
The same as every year, they are dangerous every year. Detroit is always a favorite to win the West.
Barry Melrose (3:36 PM)
We have about a week left guys so hold on to your hats. Thanks for the chat, see you in a couple of weeks!
