Quint Kessenich (2:32 PM)
With the conference races heating up, I'll be up in Hartford for Saturday's UMass vs. Hofstra and Rutgers vs. Syracuse.
Is this a down year for the ACC? Is it still the best conference?
Quint Kessenich (2:33 PM)
The league was nine losses out of conference compared to just two a year ago. I still think two teams from the ACC will be seeded in the top eight. This weekend's ACC tournament will tell us a lot.
Terry (Orlando, FL)
Do you think Duke will make a return trip to the Final Four?
Quint Kessenich (2:34 PM)
I see them a team that can be ranked anywhere from No. 5 to No. 8 and right now I think they will be underdogs in their quarter final game.
Carl (New Orleans)
What's been the biggest surprise this season?
Quint Kessenich (2:36 PM)
Villanova, Bucknell and Delaware's success in the CAA. A downside surprise would be Navy, Georgetown and Albany; three preeminent programs that are struggling.
Which team heads into the final weeks of the season on a hot streak?
Quint Kessenich (2:36 PM)
Cornell is hot after beating Syracuse. John Hopkins is on a win streak and Notre Dame is still undefeated.
Bill (Boston, MA)
Quint, as a frustrated Holy Cross Lax fan, do you finally see them adding scholarships after firing their coach this year? While this is a D1 team in a tough conference, it has the support of a D3 team. Will anything change up here?
Quint Kessenich (2:37 PM)
I have no idea what the inner working of their AD and president are. I would only hope that they ramp up the program and try harder to field a competitive team.
How bad is UVA's locker room? Watching them live, teamwork and a plan seem to be lacking. With last year's championship coaching blunder on the last play and the lack of discipline of the current team is Starsia's time coming to a close?
Quint Kessenich (2:39 PM)
I haven't been in their locker room so I don't know. I do know that their offense is No. 1 in the nation and their defense in No. 40. If they can figure out how to stop teams, they can turn their season around.
With three weeks left till Selection Sunday, who do you think will earn the No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament?
Quint Kessenich (2:40 PM)
The winner of the Notre Dame-Syracuse game on April 30 on ESPNU. Barring something crazy, one of those two teams will be the No. 1 seed.
Tony (Richmond, CA)
Your alma mater is looking very good. Are they now the team to beat for the national title?
Quint Kessenich (2:42 PM)
They are playing well but you worry about them peaking too early and hitting their freshman wall. But you have to be impressed with their improvement that the chemistry that they have developed.
Who do you think has done the best coaching job so far this season?
Quint Kessenich (2:44 PM)
Penn's Mike Murphy, Dave Pietramala of John Hopkins, Ben DeLuca of Cornell and Kevin Corrigan of Notre Dame. Frank Fedorjaka of Bucknell and Jim Nagle of Colgate would also be in the discussion. But it's a tad bit too early to start handing out post season awards.
Do you think it was actually good for Syracuse to lose so that they could see where a team could expose their weaknesses?
Quint Kessenich (2:45 PM)
Yes. I spoke Johnny Desko today and he said he felt the loss refocused his team.
What do you think of this Warrior Classic this weekend up north?
Quint Kessenich (2:46 PM)
I love the UMass vs. Hofstra game. UMass is 8-3 and playing well right now. Hofstra is 11-1 but has only beaten two teams with a winning record. It's a huge game in the CAA.
J.P. Miller (Boston, MA)
What do you think UPenn's chances are of making the tournament? Is it possible that two teams could make the tourney coming out of the ivy league?
Quint Kessenich (2:47 PM)
Penn has an excellent chance. They have a strong RPI, strength of schedule and their win over Duke can be critical. They are very much in the mix.
I have a young goalie at home. I was always taught in sports before a game, or an at bat to simplify my thoughts. What are 3 thoughts my goalie should concentrate on just before a game?
Quint Kessenich (2:49 PM)
Watch the ball, when you give up a goal move on the the next shot and clear the ball. Be a leader on defense and always make the next stop.
Quint Kessenich (2:50 PM)
We have a double-header this Saturday with Rutgers vs. Syracuse and Navy vs. Johns Hopkins starting at 5:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU. Enjoy the games and I'll speak with you again next week.
