Quint Kessenich (2:32 PM)
Championship weekend is here. on the line this weekend is five automatic bids to the NCAA tournament.
Jose Badilla (Dover,NJ)
Do you think UVA has a shot at winning the national championship without Shammel Bratton?
Quint Kessenich (2:33 PM)
They played an inspired game last weekend beating Penn 11-2. With the excising talent on that roaster, you can't count them out. To me their defense is the big question mark.
Penn State dropped out of the top 20 this week. Do you think that ruins their chance of a tournament bid?
Quint Kessenich (2:34 PM)
Not without the automatic qualifier from the CAA. They have to beat UMass then either Hofstra or Delaware.
How surprising of a season has Villanova had this year? They've been pretty surprising.
Quint Kessenich (2:36 PM)
They've been close in the past but they certainly have surprised some people this year. They are well coached and they have a couple of elite players on that roster. They must not stub their toe this weekend against Georgetown if they have any hopes of capturing the 8th-seed.
How good of a season has Bucknell had?
Quint Kessenich (2:37 PM)
Terrific. They are 14-2 and they enter the playoffs with momentum. They will be a tough first-round opponent because of their toughness and their unique schemes. They could be a bracket buster.
The Terps have been pretty steady this season. Do they need to start showing some flash to win it all, or can they keep going steady as they have been and win a title?
Quint Kessenich (2:37 PM)
I like the way they are playing right now. They seem to be peaking at the right time.
How big was that Cuse win over ND?
Quint Kessenich (2:38 PM)
It was their most impressive performance of the year and it sets them up well for a playoff run.
David (Richmond, VA)
What is your reaction of UVA dismissing Shamel Bratton?
Quint Kessenich (2:39 PM)
I think it's a shame to see such a talented player make some bad decisions.
Quint, does Duke have the defensive prowess to get to championship weekend this year?
Quint Kessenich (2:40 PM)
If they can get saves from their goalie, then they have a shot but he's been very inconsistent.
Who do you think the best player has been this year.
Quint Kessenich (2:41 PM)
By far, Rob Pannell of Cornell. It's not even close. He deserves Player of the Year and the Tewaraaton Trophy.
Seth Tierney (Hempstead NY)
If my team fails to get passed Delaware or PSU/Umass in the final will we get snubbed from the big dance? It's a little ridiculous that I am gonna get penalized for Hopkins and Army dropping us from their sched
Quint Kessenich (2:43 PM)
True. Hofstra's strength of schedule is weak. They've beaten a handfull of teams whose RPI is 16 and 20. I think, based on quality that Hofstra belongs. But you don't want to put your fate in the hands of the NCAA selection committee.
If you want to peak at the right time for the tournament, is now when you need to be playing well? Or can you sneak into the tournament and still have time to turn it on?
Quint Kessenich (2:45 PM)
For teams this weekend trying to get automatic qualifiers, they need to play well right now. For other teams, they can wait until May 14-15th in the first round. One bad game and your season is over.
The NEC will be getting an auto bid, but this year, it looks like none of their teams would be close to making the tournament. Is their auto bid good or bad for the tournament, if they'd be taking away a bid from another at large team?
Quint Kessenich (2:46 PM)
The NEC doesn't get an automatic bid this year. As a new conference, they aren't eligible yet. In the future, I like the fact they will get an auto bid.
How do you feel about the championship game last season
Quint Kessenich (2:48 PM)
I thought it lacked transition and tempo but it was drama filled. I would like to see more goal scoring and shots on goal.
Jack (Ann Arbor Michigan)
How good can Michigan be in a couple years? They have a mix of elite academics/athletics/atmosphere that few schools can match. They beat low level D1 teams the past few years such as Bellarmine and Detroit Mercy
Quint Kessenich (2:49 PM)
It will take time but after five years I see no reason why they won't be a perennial top-20 team.
Quint Kessenich (2:52 PM)
