Postgame Chat: NBA Finals Game 4 with D'Arcy Maine
D'Arcy Maine (12:09 AM)
Wow. Another great finish. And he series is back to being all even. Words can't express my admiration for Dirk. But I'm sure going to try over the next 90 minutes or so. Send in your questions, comments, witty LeBron comments, etc. and let's get this postgame review underway!
Aaron SC Texas [via mobile]
Did Lebron play tonight?
D'Arcy Maine (12:10 AM)
Who? I must not have seen that player tonight.
Dan Gilbert [via mobile]
Told you!!!!! His Quitness.
D'Arcy Maine (12:11 AM)
Burn. LeBron finished with a grand total of... eight points. That certainly will help quell his critics. Hope sarcasm carries over in chat form.
Eric, FL [via mobile]
LeBron had his lowest-scoring postseason game ever tonight. Do you think he'll go off in Game 5?
D'Arcy Maine (12:12 AM)
I really was expecting a big night for him today, Eric. I'm not sure what to expect from LBJ on Thursday. He seemed very relaxed and focused entering this game and then we got... that. Whatever you want to call it. Have to wonder if the pressure of this stage has just become too much.
Kevin (NY) [via mobile]
Mike Miller? Are you kidding me? This team has a billion dollar payroll, and that's the shot they take?
D'Arcy Maine (12:15 AM)
I don't think that was their plan, Kevin. When Wade tripped, he sort of desperately chucked the ball at Miller. Not a great shot but I don't think it was exactly scripted. Then again, I'm not really sold on Spoelstra's ability to lead his team in the closing moments.
mike, washington dc [via mobile]
I think Dallas needs their supporting cast (Chandler, Marion, Terry, Stevenson) to play this way every game in order to win the series. Do you agree?
D'Arcy Maine (12:17 AM)
Absolutely. That's why they won today. Al four of those guys had great games and stepped up for Dirk in his illness. That's what they need again, regardless of Dirk's health, in Game 5 and beyond.
Vincent (Indianpolis, Ind) [via mobile]
How does Lebron expect to be in the argument as one of the best players, and he doesn't even show up in the Finals?
D'Arcy Maine (12:19 AM)
Great question. I don't know Vincent. We know he has the talent and the ability. I'm just not sure why he's not coming through in the clutch.
Brandon(Farrell Pa) [via mobile]
Wade was on fire tonight. If he didn't trip when he did do you think the game would have ended the same way it did?
D'Arcy Maine (12:21 AM)
Impossible to know for sure, Brandon. But I will say, after the game Wade had, that he certainly woud have a gotten a better pass in or even found the open lane had he not been stopped by his own two feet. Tough way for him to end it.
Magic Johnson, LA [via mobile]
Now that we've established that LeBron isn't Michael Jordan and never will be, why do all of LeBron's supporters compare him to me? I don't want to be compared to LeBron ...
Josh [via mobile]
MJ has to be laughing, 8 points for Lebron and now 2-6 all time in Finals. We are all Witnesses, what a joke.
D'Arcy Maine (12:22 AM)
Well, we are all witnesses. I'm just not sure of what.
kris, danville, va. [via mobile]
Do you think C. Butler will try and come back and play now that the series is so close?
D'Arcy Maine (12:24 AM)
I guess the door is still slightly open for that, Kris. I really don't think it will happen based on what I've seen of Butler and what I've heard from people familiar with the situation. I know he wants to (desperately) but he and the team have to make sure his presence would be benficial and not hinder this team if he's not 100%. Hard to step on the court for the first time in five months and have it be in the Finals.

Quincy (Tulsa,ok) [via mobile]
Why is it everytime the Heat make a big run to extend their lead, following the dallas timeouts they let the mavericks right back in the game with a run of their own?
D'Arcy Maine (12:26 AM)
Have to place at least some of that on Spoelstra. He needs to do a better job keeping his team focused. I know that's not an easy task with this team but he has to find a way.
Raeford [via mobile]
Who has the edge in the series now?
D'Arcy Maine (12:27 AM)
I think the Heat still have an edge as this series will be closed out in Miami. Dallas has the momentum going into Game 5 though after this win and another game in front of a home crowd.
sal chicago [via mobile]
is something wrong with lebron or is this just proof that he cant produce when it counts?
D'Arcy Maine (12:28 AM)
As fas a I know, LeBron has no injuries or any thing of that nature. I'll let you know if he says anything in regards to this at his press conference shortly.
dominque, ne [via mobile]
What do you think scottie pippen is saying now?
D'Arcy Maine (12:29 AM)
Probably something about being an uncredited cast member of 'The Real Housewives of Miami'. Now that is a travesty.
D'Arcy Maine (12:30 AM)
To clarify Pippen's point though, he said LeBron COULD eventually be a better player than MJ. Not that he is now. And in LeBron's defense, he's 26 and has plenty of time to define his legacy. Don't rule him out just yet.
adam manhattan ks [via mobile]
Do you think Spoelstra will be with the Heat for another year? Or do you think they will give him one more year?
D'Arcy Maine (12:33 AM)
I would imagine Spoelstra will be back. If they win the Finals, it would be nearly impossible (and pointless in many ways) to get rid of him. If they lose, I'm sure people will talk about it but it would look really bad for the franchise. Wouldn't make Miami seem like a great place for any other coach to come to.
Rooster [via mobile]
Is it just me or do the heat play a lot better when chalmers is in the game?
D'Arcy Maine (12:34 AM)
Chalmers didn't have a great game tonight but he's been consistently better than Bibby throughout the series. Chalmers had five points, six assists and four rebounds tonight in close to 30 minutes. Bibby had zero points, two rebounds and a dish in just over 16. I'm sure we'll continue to hear questions of Chalmers taking over the starting spot over the next 48 hours.
sauro garland tx [via mobile]
Does this series have good tv ratings?
D'Arcy Maine (12:36 AM)
I believe it's still pacing for some of the best ever. Would think it will continue (or improve) as this series is now all even.
Horton. Dallas TX [via mobile]
I know we're supposed to look at the tape and come back with a better question, but can we surmise that Lebron really has no interest in leading a team to a championship?
D'Arcy Maine (12:37 AM)
I don't think it's an interest thing, Horton. I can promise you LeBron wants very badly to win a title. There just seems to be a mental block or something of that nature preventing him from leading his squad on this stage. I wish I could give you better insight. It's baffling.
Answer me [via mobile]
Bench lebron To send message.
D'Arcy Maine (12:39 AM)
Not happening. What kind of message would that send? And LeBron would NEVER play in a Miami uniform again if that happened.
Eddie Tampa FL [via mobile]
I honestly think lebron played like he did tonight (not interested) to show everyone that Miami can't win without HIM in spite of how well Wade has been playing ......I feel a little message being sent there .....what r ur thoughts?
D'Arcy Maine (12:41 AM)
I think you're giving LeBron too much credit. He wants a title. Plain and simple. He wouldn't purposely sabotage his team's chances of doing so just to prove how valauable he is. Wade almost did win this without LeBron and he's the reason the Heat have won two games.
Dave [via mobile]
Is Stephenson starting game 5 or Barrea?
D'Arcy Maine (12:44 AM)
Don't think Carlisle has thought that far yet. I would guess he'll stick with Barea and play Stevenson off the bench. Worked out pretty well for both players tonight.
dobromir, cle ohio [via mobile]
did players already speak to the press? i wonder what lebron had to say?
D'Arcy Maine (12:46 AM)
Wade and LeBron are talking to the media now. LBJ is letting Wade do most of the work. Much like in tonight's game.
Jason [via mobile]
Why is everyone so concerned about lebron? We should be talking about how dirk didn't quit even though he was about ready to fall over and die. Lebron should take note
D'Arcy Maine (12:47 AM)
Dirk and LeBron were essentially polar opposites tonight. Dirk overcame a nasty fever to lead his team when it counted. A healthy LeBron did just about nothing for 48 minutes.
D'Arcy Maine (12:48 AM)
LeBron just told the media he was still confident in his abilities. He may or may not take some extra time after practice to shoot tomorrow. I've seen Ryan Seacrest get better answers out of people.
Chris - Dallas, TX [via mobile]
Clearly, LeBron has no desire to leas on this stage. He deferred to nearly every other player on the team, failing to capitalize on each moment. Do you think Wade senses this?
D'Arcy Maine (12:50 AM)
I think Wade knows how to win on this level and is going to do what he can, regardless of how LeBron is playing. That's just the kind of leader Wade is.
stephen-st.charles, il [via mobile]
Does this game hurt lebron's legacy/reputation?
D'Arcy Maine (12:54 AM)
It depends. In the short term it could, depending on how he does the rest of this series. If he plays like this again, it's going to be a very long offseason of question. If he's able to recover, I think he cn shake this one off. At the end of his career, we'll take note of his full body of work and evaluate accordingly.
CT [via mobile]
Dallas needs to play with that aggressive energy b4 they get down so much I think if they do that they can pull it off and get the trophy.
D'Arcy Maine (12:56 AM)
Dallas definitely needs to play with that kind of late-game intensity all game long. I'm not sure why it takes them so long to find that rhythm.
Frank (Addison, TX) [via mobile]
Is the media going to continue to over-react as they have by picking the previous game's winner as the team that will win all remaining games uncontested?
D'Arcy Maine (12:57 AM)
Yes. That's just the nature of this thing. For better or worse.
Ventnor, NJ [via mobile]
I think people are overly concerned with the play of Lebron right now. The man is playing great, unselfish basketball. Let's keep in mind its year 1 of this experiment... And they're already on the way to ring number 1.
D'Arcy Maine (12:58 AM)
Should point out LBJ had nine boards and seven assists. He's just expected to do more offensively and has positioned himself as the go-to guy. His performance tonight warrants some criticism as a result.
Nabeeh Ziadeh:Clifton, New Jersey [via mobile]
If Dallas (Dirk) goes back to Miami with a 3-2 lead, how confident are you that they finish them off probably in 6?
D'Arcy Maine (1:00 AM)
I think this series is going seven, Nabeeh. Just a hunch at this point. Both teams want it too badly to not play this one down to the final minute.
mark cuban Dallas TX [via mobile]
D'Arcy Maine (1:00 AM)
Is that as close to a Cuban comment as we're going to get?
Brad (Dallas TX) [via mobile]
Are the rest of the NBA fans out there enjoying seeing LeBron fail as much as us Dallas fans?
D'Arcy Maine (1:03 AM)
I think they are, Brad. Certainly seems like it based on the comments I'm getting in this chat. Most aren't appopriate to print. But are very entertaining.
Randy dallas,texas [via mobile]
Do u think if dallas win game 5,they would have the momentum going back to miami.
D'Arcy Maine (1:04 AM)
Definitely. If they're able to win two games in a row, they certainly take the edge. Would be tough to win in Miami but I think they could win one of two.
tou, mn [via mobile]
Why hasn't James Jones played at all?
D'Arcy Maine (1:07 AM)
Jones is recovering from a toe injury but by all accounts, he's at or near 100%. He's a great shooter and could provide aother offensive dimension if given the chance. Think Spoelstra keeps giving Miller the nod because he is much better rebounder. Wonder what adjustments though will be made entering Game 5.
Cubans treadmill (mavs gym) [via mobile]
Regardless of the outcome of the series, do you think Cuban will finally speak after it's all said and done?
D'Arcy Maine (1:10 AM)
I hope so. I miss him. This series isn't lacking in the drama department but we could get to 'Black Swan'-level drama with some Cuban commentary.
jim carrey CA [via mobile]
My twin brother is the best!
D'Arcy Maine (1:12 AM)
I'm just happy to post something that doesn't make fun of LeBron. Carlisle does look strikingly like Ace Ventura. Laces out.
Dave-O Corona Ca. [via mobile]
Not to beat up on LeBron but if Dallas pulls off the championship LeBron will get hammered by the media and the fans during the off season. Your thoughts?
D'Arcy Maine (1:13 AM)
That's a fact, Dave. If the Mavs win this series, LeBron has a long several months ahead of him. It won't be pretty.
Eduardo Tegucigalpa, Honduras [via mobile]
Would you say Lebron is affected by the fact he has played around 44-46 minutes in each of the Final's games?
D'Arcy Maine (1:14 AM)
LeBron is used to playing that minutes and is a young guy in his prime. I don't think fatigue is a factor. I really don't. Mental fatigue maybe.
JT (Spokane WA) [via mobile]
Who are the secondary MVP's for each team this series? Obviously, Dirk and Wade are first choices but who's second?
D'Arcy Maine (1:15 AM)
Leaning towards Bosh and Marion. But Wade and Dirk obviously are the clear frontrunners.
Hertbert Brentwood New York [via mobile]
Which superstar do you think wants to win the finals the most?
D'Arcy Maine (1:17 AM)
I think tonight Dirk showed just how badly he wasnted it. Despite a high fever and no sleep as a result, he showed his true heart and desire to win this ring. Nothing short of amazing.
PICK ME!!!!! [via mobile]
Who would you rather build your team around.... Larry Bird or Dirk Nowitzki?
D'Arcy Maine (1:19 AM)
Any GM would kill for the chance to have either. Bird's career resume is better but Dirk is definitely proving he should be in the same conversation.
bryan in maryland [via mobile]
all im hearing is criticism for lebron but if bron has just 2 more points,3 more rebounds, and 1more assist he has a triple double.. do you really think the guy played THAT bad?
D'Arcy Maine (1:21 AM)
For a role player? It was a solid performance. For LeBron? It was a bad game. He has set himself up to be thought of as the go-to guy and a superstar and tonight he did not fill that role
D'Arcy Maine (1:22 AM)
Okay, everyone. That does it for me from Dallas for the night. Thanks for all of your great comments and questions. Can't believe what an exciting series this has become. I'll be back here on Thursday night to do some more chatting. Hope to see you then!
