Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:01 PM)
Good afternoon everyone...let's get this Wednesday afternoon partaaaaayyy started!
Jed Clampett (Beverly Hills)
O.K mark, Lets get the RED BULL questions out of the way. I have #4 and #83 locked in as my bottom drivers. Will they have cars that will run up front or will they be running JUNK the rest of the season? Is it time to drop Vickers for Regan smith and drop Kahne for Ambrose , burton, logano or whoever I can get? Thanks Buddy!!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:04 PM)
I think for at least the short term Jed everything will stay about the same. The cars for the next few races have already been built and massaged and are ready to go. Team members have not begun jumping ship yet so, again, in the short team I don't see much changing. Ambrose has got to be on your team this week in my opinion whatever you need to do. If you want to drop Vickers then you might want to look at Burton, but for a one shot deal for Sonoma think about Boris Said and Robby Gordon. No help after that but could give you some extra flexibility this weekend.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:04 PM)
oh and forget...please tell Ellie May hi.... :)
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Who do you think will win the Bucyross 200 at Road America & the Toyota Save Mart 350 at Sonoma?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:07 PM)
Just checked out the Road America entry list...I'd go with Edwards...and at Sonoma could this be the week Marcos Ambrose finally gets his first Sprint Cup win? I think so.
I have noticed a lot of new gals have been sending in questions. Must say I do not like it. Just remember I was your first..To write in of course..LOL My question is this the final races for Seg 2.. All of these drivers have great potential but all face big problems. Vickers losing Red Bull. J Burton just looks so unhappy. J mac who has been terrible. Do you see any of these drivers doing anything it the upcoming weeks.. Thanks my love
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:11 PM)
You a funny lady.....Vickers is a halfway decent road course driver and so is Burton, but the last few years at Sonoma he keeps getting run over while running up near the front. JMac is a totally mystery. Something is wrong throughout that whole organization because Montoya is off just a little too. I look at Burton and I see the talent on that team and I keep saying to myself it's got to get better they are just too good to be this bad. So, my guess is that Burton will find the magic before other two if any of them find the magic...and yes I'll never forget you were my first...lady to write to The Guru...lol
hey mark, how are you doing today? I need some assistance please, need two drivers from the following list: R.Gordon, Menard, gilliland, T. Labonte, B.Labonte, Lally, Andy Pilgrim, Brian Simo, Tony Ave, Tomy Drissi and Boris Said. I know these guys may not be the best to choose from, but I gotta go with two of them....thanks for the help!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:12 PM)
I'd go with Robby Gordon and Boris Said...they have both upside and downside...but more up than the others...I'd rate Menard and Gilliland right behind them..Unknown to most people Menard has some road racing experience.
Bill Scott (Lake Summerset, Illinois)
Hell-o Mark, I think I'll stay away from Red Bull Racing because of the HUGE distraction. Will starting up front be the number one factor in your top 30 on Sunday ? A side note: we're on vacation visiting my sister in Springfield, Illinois which is Justin Allgaier country. I like the kid a lot. We leave here and head to Road America for the Nationwide race Sat. We've never attended a road course race and are looking forward to it. I think Cousin Carl is the only Cup driver entered. Will he have to fly himself back and forth from the left coast? Might you stay away from him in the Cup race? Thanks, Bill
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:17 PM)
The Red Bull Racing deal is going to be hard to figure out until we actually get to the track to see how the team is operating and if anybody has already left for greener pastures, which I'm told is not the case. As for my Sunday top-30...yes starting position will play a part of what I do because 18 of the 22 races there have been won from a top-10 starting position..Allgaier seems to be a good kid...as for the Nationwide race and Carl..He won't be flying himself back and forth..he'll need the rest..I'm staying away from him at Sonoma because his record just isn't that good there.
show me money 14,24,9,42,51,7
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:19 PM)
We could IF....no one pays back Gordon for his misdeeds a year ago...and IF Said and Robby Gordon keep their heads or drive over them Sunday.
Rick ma [via mobile]
Ok guru the 42 has put themselves in a bad spot, but with sonoma, the glen, indy if they get 2 wins they will get a wildcard spot. It's a tall task but they should have won indy 2 straight years! What kind of a chance do you give them? Show them you can do it jpm!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:23 PM)
Well Ricky Montoya would certainly have to be considered one of the favorites this weekend and at Watkins Glen..As for Indy he'll be near the top of the list for the way he's run the last two years in which in my opinion the 42 has just given two wins away and he did the tire test and that should keep him dialed in too.
Is Boris Said a smart pick for a top 10 win? Robby Gordon thoughts?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:25 PM)
I think Said is a safer pick then Gordon. Said would be willing to walk away with an eighth place finish like he did last year. For Robby it's all about winning...hero or zero...last year he was the runner-up and he is a former Sonoma winner...but the rest of his stats there are pretty ugly because he's either gotten into a wreck or broke his transmission or wore out his brakes.
Nick Rolando (Orlando)
Mark, hope all is well buddy. The Ford's were freaky fast last week in MIS they deserved better than the finishes they got. Anyways, what do you think of 14-9-42-51 for Y! and 14-9-42-43-4 for ESPN? I have 1.4 left over for the Salary Cap league to possibly trade up.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:28 PM)
I can live with the Yahoo team..but if you have 1.4 leftover you could possibly trade Allmendinger and pick up Jeff Gordon...Just a thought.
Guru- kahne hurt me bad last week and I'm picking 14th this week. Who are some mid pack sleeper type guys I should think about taking at 14th?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:30 PM)
Clint Bowyer might be lefted over then...maybe AJ Allmendinger..then there's Boris Said and Robby Gordon, which are pretty risky.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:31 PM)
This would probably be a good time to sneak in my pre-race top-30...so here it is...1.Marcos Ambrose2.Juan Pablo Montoya3.Jimmie Johnson4.Jeff Gordon5.Tony Stewart6.Kyle Busch7.Kasey Kahne8.Kevin Harvick9.Greg Biffle10.Kurt Busch11.Clint Bowyer12.Denny Hamlin13.A.J. Allmendinger14.Ryan Newman15.Dale Earnhardt, Jr.16.Mark Martin17.Brian Vickers18.Carl Edwards19.Robby Gordon20.Paul Menard21.Boris Said22.Jeff Burton23.Matt Kenseth24.Martin Truex, Jr.25.David Gilliland26.Jamie McMurray27.Joey Logano28.David Ragan29.Regan Smith30.Brad Keselowski
I am more than likely going to start Boris Said this weekend, but who is the safer backup choice: Robby Gordon in the 7 or Tony Ave in the 38?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:32 PM)
We're all about daring to be great Ken...Gordon has more risk, but way more upside too than Ave.
hi there guru, first off just like to give u an apology for questioning your greatness last week at michigan. you said that the 5 was good and i couldnt figure out why you would say that. well i went with the 5 and guess what big daddy, the guru was once again right. so i thank you for the advice and the info because other wise i had kahne and as we saw, he flopped. so thank you and i vow never to question the almighty one again. now hows this early lineup look. 14-4-9-7 with 48-43-42-mears on the bench. the 42 still has great chance to make the lineup, just trying to maybe go little different knowing everyone will have him. again thank you and see ya sunday buddy
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:35 PM)
It's always okay to question me Tim...all I ask is that you be careful when you "poke the bear"..lol..You know one other deal I'm proud of last week I actually recommended to one player that he take Landon Cassill and I'm sure he thought I was nuts..but Cassill wound up 12th...another bold stroke for the "dare to be great Guru"..lol...I can see the thinking behind your Sonoma team...looking at last year's number you could go for the gold.
Hello Guru. Being a long-time Robbie fan, gonna try 7-9-14-42-48 for Sonoma. Murderers Row, i believe, except may change out 48 for 18. Whatcha think?P.S. Keep Nationwide at Raceway Park where they have a good race, the Brickyard doesn't need the minor leagues.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:37 PM)
I like your team Steve...but I wouldn't trade 48 for the 18...48 on the upswing at Sonoma with finishes of fourth and first the last two years..plus Jimmie's pretty careful about not getting wrecked..I agree the Nationwide race needs to stay at Raceway Park in Indy..if they hold it at the big track it won't have nearly teh excitement and crowd will be tiny..unless NASCAR twists arms and gets a bunch of Cup guys to run the race..then maybe a few more fans...It is not the magic bullet the track thinks it is.
Two questions: First, can David Ragan score a top 10 this week, and 2nd, will Michigan Speedway possibily have to issue restrictor plates for next years race due to the high speeds caused by the track repave?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:39 PM)
No Matt, I don't think David Ragan can score a top-10 this week. His numbers at Sonoma are UGLEEE. As for restrictor plates at Michigan after it's repaved? It might have to be considered because the cars are already pumping well over 200 going into the corners on fresh tires..then again, without plates that will seperate the drivers and perhaps make it a safer race that way.
Benjamin Spencer (Winston Salem NC )
would you keep JR for this weekend if you acciqured him in the first week of this segment because affartntly his vaule has greatly increased and does this look like a good team to for this week JR Jeff Gordon Marcos Ambrose Robby gordon and Kyle busch
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:42 PM)
Hey neighbor..typing at you from nearby Midway and you have a tough question. Junior should be pretty good next week, but I think a top-15 is the best you can hope for this week. Personally, I'm staying away from Junior because he's overpriced right now. His value isn't likely to increase after Sunday so you may want to trade him and pick him back up next week at Daytona..I like Jeff Grodon, Marcos Ambrose a lot...Robby is risky but has some upside..I'd trade Kyle Busch though for either Tony Stewart or Juan Pablo Montoya.
Guru - Beth may have been your first, but she'll never have what WE have, LOL....how good do you think Robby's car will be this week - are his road-racing cars a cut above his usual ones? This is his chance to get back into the top 35. Noticed you mentioned David Gilliland - I'm thinking he might be a decent bet in the lower tier - would you say he's safer than Robby and/or Boris?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:44 PM)
You too a funny ladeee...I think in the lower tier Robby and Boris are the picks with the most upside. It's risk when you take any of these drivers down near the bottom so why not go with the ones if the moons lined up might get you a top-10?
Nick Rolando (Orlando)
Mark, a non-fantasy question. What next silly season item will become clearer? UPS going to the 99, Andretti Autosport and Ford, any ideas Mark that you've heard?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:47 PM)
It's hard to say Nick..right now there are a bunch of deals you would call "fluid" and could run out on the floor any day now...The one domino that has to fall to make the rest start to move is Carl Edwards. Does he stay or go? Once he decides other things will fall into place fairly quickly.
Pick; said or kahne????
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:47 PM)
Kahne has more upside because of the way he's finished the last two seasons at Sonoma and might be a keeper next week for Daytona.
Mark, who else do you see contending for the nationwide win on Saturday?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:53 PM)
Elliott Sadler is a really underrated road racer...then you have three guys with a lot of road racing experience in good cars..Ron Fellows in Dale Jr.'s #7...Michael McDowell in the Joe Gibbs #18 and Jacques Villeneuve in the Penskee #22 for Brad Keselowski...Those four should also make some noise in my opinion.
espn team 24,14,9,43,42 show me money
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:54 PM)
That's a pretty sporty team right there Dave...Gordon's stats are amazing, but after wrecked or spun so many people last year I'm wondering if this is payback time.
Mark, do you think Smoke is going to hit his stride soon, or is his team a bit off this year - notice you have him in your top 5, but still behind JJ & Jeffie Gee - it used to be Smoke was about the first one to look at when it came to road courses. As always, thanks!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:58 PM)
Smoke is hard to figure...stats might put him higher but overall performance this year drops him a position or two. I still think he'll be pretty formidable at Sonma.
Nick Rolando (Orlando)
Mark, last question for today, I promise. :) Who you got this weekend 48 or 14? I traded the 14 for the 48 on ESPN and have .2 left over after I had 1.5 left over previously.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (4:00 PM)
Well yours is the last question I'll answer today...promise..lol...Johnson over Stewart...I don't think you go wrong either way but I rank Jimmie a little higher because of what he's done the last two seasons and he's been a lot more consistent than Tony this year.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (4:01 PM)
That's going to do it for me...Don't forget my Sunday chat from Sonoma will come your way at 12:30 eastern. Until then have a great week and may the force be with you...Sad to say but must "The Guru has left the building!"
