Joey Chestnut will be here at the top of the hour!
Buzzmaster (2:50 PM)
Joey is here!
Tommy (Madison, WI)
What's the most difficult eating competition that you've participated?
Joey Chestnut (2:51 PM)
Hot dogs is the hardest by far becuase everyone is pushing themselves to the limit and bringing their best game. I try to stay away from sweets, because they make me feel like garbage afterwards.
Joey (SC)
Yeah, my name is Joey too! How do you prepare for this? Do you eat alot or not eat at all? I've always wondered how pro eaters prepare so please explain.
Joey Chestnut (2:52 PM)
I get my body into a cycle. I will do a practice contest, then fast for 3 days with no solids. Then I will have another practice and then fast. I will do that and try to peak at the big event.
Johnny Ruggs (Valley Stream, NY)
At a normal family bbq, how many hotdogs will you eat?
Joey Chestnut (2:53 PM)
I'll probably eat two or three, unless someone eats more.
John (Providence, RI)
I saw you on an episode of Man V. Food. How was that experience? Can you somehow get Adam to film an episode of Man V. Food where he is also a competitor in the Nathan's Hot Dog Contest? I would be very interested to see how he could do against professional competitive eaters. Best of luck on Monday.
Joey Chestnut (2:53 PM)
It was an awesome experience. I go to that place once a week. Adam was a great guy to meet in person.
Josh (Minnesota)
What is your goal? Can you break 60 in this 10 minute timeframe?
Joey Chestnut (2:54 PM)
My first goal is to eat enough to win. Second, is to break the record of 68. If the conditions are right and the hot dogs are cooked properly, 60 shouldn't be a problem.
Nick (MN)
How does your body feel after eating 50 plus hot dogs?
Joey Chestnut (2:55 PM)
It feels like absolute garbage. I'm exhausted, drunk on hot dogs. Hours later I'll take Pepto to help digest and hope to fall asleep.
Tommy (Madison, WI)
Have you been banned from any all-you-can-eat restaurants? Where?
Joey Chestnut (2:55 PM)
Usually, the all you can eat places are happy I am there. They like to give me their best food. One time I went to an all you can eat sushi place and I think they poisoned me on purpose after my 50th plate. It was the worst food poisoning of my life.
Jeremy (Chicago, IL)
What is your favorite food and how much of it can you eat?
Joey Chestnut (2:56 PM)
I love my mom's chicken parmagian. If she wants me to come home, she'll tell me that she's making extra of that and I'll make the two hour drive home to see her. I can eat pounds of it.
Drew (NY)
What are ur hobbies when ur not dominating Hot Dog Contests?
Joey Chestnut (2:57 PM)
I like to go fishing. I like going to baseball games, football games. I can accompany all of those things with beer.
Matt (Sandusky, OH)
Since you are obviously skilled at eating food, are you also skilled at cooking food?
Joey Chestnut (2:57 PM)
Since I've been doing the eating contests, I've been doing a lot better with cooking. My palate's become better. I've gotten better at recognizing certains tastes. I can also make 70 hot dogs faster than anyone else.
Matthew (Los Angeles, CA)
Who gave you your nickname "Jaws"?
Joey Chestnut (2:58 PM)
Thomas, the best female competitive eater in the world gave me my nickname. It was after I beat her in a waffle eating contest. And the nickname stuck.
Ben (Sandy, UT)
How's your relationship with Kobayashi, do you two speak at all?
Joey Chestnut (2:59 PM)
There has always been a language barrier with me and Kobayashi, so we didn't speak much. Since he left Major League Eating, he's doing his own thing and we haven't spoken. I miss competing against him.
bob shoudt (royersford pa)
Does the Notorious B.O.B.'s dazzling good looks ever intimidate you during a contest?
Joey Chestnut (3:00 PM)
No. I don't really look at the competitor's during the contest too much.
Joey Chestnut (3:00 PM)
But your wife cheers for me.
Matthew (Chicago,IL)
When your not eating hot dogs are you eating healthy?
Joey Chestnut (3:01 PM)
When I'm not training for contests, my diet is actually really normal. The more I train for contests, I have to eat healthy. In the long run, I have a pretty normal calorie intake.
Darnell (San Jose)
Joey, keep holdin it down for San Jose. We've been supportin you all along and will continue to till you've broken all the records. So do you even enjoy eating hotdogs anymore?
Joey Chestnut (3:02 PM)
Absolutely. I love a good hot dog. If it's food I hold a record in, chances are I'll still eat it in every day life.
Nathan (Missouri)
Joey, describe what it is like being on the stage for Nathan's 4th of July Hot Dog Contest.
Joey Chestnut (3:02 PM)
It's intense. There is electricity on Coney Island on July 4. It's unlike any other contest. It really energizes me.
Matt (IN)
I'm sure you like to grill. What's better, charcoal or gas?
Joey Chestnut (3:03 PM)
I do like to grill. If I'm smoking, I'll use gas. But if I'm just grilling, charcoal is better.
Breesy (Cleveland)
r u into sports and if so who is your favorite player?
Joey Chestnut (3:04 PM)
I'm a fan of Tim Lincicum. He's a pretty good dude. I'm a pretty big Giants fan. Pablo Sandoval. He's cool. I'm a baseball fan and college football.
Jaden (SLC,UT)
Do you listen to any music before the events to help pump you up? If so, who is it you listen to?
Joey Chestnut (3:04 PM)
I do listen to music. I listen to some fast paced rock. I also call people who support me, they always have something good to say. I'll call my mom, my brothers. I try to reinforce with positive things right before the contest.
Manny (San Jose)
When did you break the barrier from eating a lot to eating competitively?
Joey Chestnut (3:05 PM)
My little brother signed me up for my first contest. After that first contest, I knew my body was made for it and I could figure out how to beat everybody.
Tommy (Madison, WI)
How do you define a point of psychological fullness and actual medical risk when you force yourself to eat more?
Joey Chestnut (3:06 PM)
Practice and making my body adapt.
Joey Chestnut (3:06 PM)
Same way as a marathon runner or a body builder. It's a matter of making my body work for me.
Matthew (Columbia, NJ)
Joey, what do you like most about eating in Wing Bowl?
Joey Chestnut (3:07 PM)
The atmosphere is amazing. It's a 30-minute contest. It's longer than any other contest. It brings another factor to competitive eating that other contests don't.
Ben (Sandy, UT)
Is there a specific record that you currently do not hold that you are shooting for?
Joey Chestnut (3:08 PM)
I want to hold the hard boiled egg record. Right now it's 65 in 6 minutes. Some day I'd like to do 100.
Tommy (Madison, WI)
After a competition, how long do you wait before you compete again?
Joey Chestnut (3:09 PM)
Ideally I like to separate them by 2-3 days, but there have been a few times where the schedule has me eating the next day. And it does negatively effect how much I eat the next day.
Dave (CT)
Do you get a new hot dog belt every year?
Joey Chestnut (3:09 PM)
Right now I have two of them. They won't give me any more.
Joey Chestnut (3:09 PM)
I don't bring them back after I win.
Fred (AL)
Do doctors watch over you?
Joey Chestnut (3:10 PM)
Every 3-4 months, I'll get all of my blood work done and see a doctor. He'll answer my questions and I'll answer his. I have an open line with my doctor.
AJV (Scranton PA)
What is the spiciest food you had to eat in competition?
Joey Chestnut (3:11 PM)
I'm a sissy when it comes to spicey. I did a jalapeno contest once and it was the only time I regretting doing a contest.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Which Foods did you have that tasted Terrible & made you sick?
Joey Chestnut (3:12 PM)
I once had ribs at a contest and I got sick afterwards. And I love ribs. I'll never go back there again.
Conner (MN)
Now that Nathans has been 10 minutes for a few years, which time format do you like better, and why?
Joey Chestnut (3:13 PM)
I like the 10 minute format a little bit more. It's a fast paced contest. The hot dogs go down easy. The last few minutes of the 12 minute contest, people weren't eating anyway.
Joey Chestnut (3:13 PM)
Thanks everybody for your support. We'll be going for my fifth title and hopefully a new record.
