Chat with Priest Holmes
Priest Holmes (5:46 PM)
Hello everyone! I'll be here at halftime of the Broncos-Raiders game to take your questions! Talk to you then. In the meantime, check out my new site www.teampriest.com!
Moderator (10:44 PM)
Good evening everyone .. Priest will be joining the room momentarily! Keep sending your questions!
Priest Holmes (10:46 PM)
I am here and ready to go!!!
Ken (Cockeysville, MD)
Hey Priest, I hated to see you leave the Ravens, but congrats on all the success with KC. I was wondering, on a personal level, what your emotions are for this week's game?
Priest Holmes (10:47 PM)
The emotions are going to be high. I had a chance to talk to Earnest Byner and he is head of the Player Personnel for the Ravens. I'm excited about a chance to see some of the guys I played with when I first came into the league.
Priest Holmes (10:47 PM)
I'll be on his radio show on Thursday at 7 p.m ET.
Barrett (New Orleans)
Hey Priest Your performances these last 3 weeks have been absolutely amazing, but with such a heavy work load week after week do you have any concerns it will catch up to you by the end of the year?
Priest Holmes (10:48 PM)
No. I don't think it will catch up to me. I'm confident in saying that because our WRs and Tony Gonzalez and our younger RBs are doing a great job. We all believe in these guys. If the ball isn't in my hands, we can still get it done.
Mark Stull, Overland Park, KS.
Priest: Which do you prefer, KC Barbeque or Texas style? I am partial to both. Thanks and God bless
Priest Holmes (10:49 PM)
I prefer K.C. style now that I have been here for awhile. I believe the wood they use here is different though. They use more mesquite in Texas. The sauce in K.C. is great! The baked beans are great too.
Joshua (San Antonio TX)
Hello Priest Is there any chance the Team Priest Expedition will be making a stop in your home town of San Antonio? Good luck the rest of the season
Priest Holmes (10:50 PM)
Oh yes. It definately will. After the season we will have a chance for the vehicle to make some appeareances all over.
Lance (Wichita, KS)
Do you have a name for your move when you cross the endzone?
Priest Holmes (10:51 PM)
It's a Priest Holmes signature. I guess that's the name!
Patrick, Ottumwa
Have you been watching the Denver-Oakland game and if so what are your impressions of both teams
Priest Holmes (10:51 PM)
A lot of it was summed up in the first quarter! As far as the Raiders, I think they had their shot in the last two years. But things keep moving and other teams can gain an advantage on you and that is what you are seeing tonight.
Jeremy st.paul, mn
Hi from Jeremy--number one chiefs fan in mn. How long to you forsee yourself playing given you are close to turning 30? Based on what I've seen, plus you didn't play on every down for a couple of years when you were with the ravens, i'd say you could go to 34-35. Keep healthy and God bless
Priest Holmes (10:53 PM)
I think I have more than 5 years to play, if that is something I choose to do. Getting to a championship is my goal and making that happen for K.C. Not being an every down back has given me more longevity. Injuries are a part of the game but it's just a matter of your perserverance and how you can bounce back.
Suktith, NYC
Priest - how does it feel to be such a fantasy god? owning you in a fantasy league is like an addiction - keep it up!
Priest Holmes (10:54 PM)
It's funny you say that.. early on in my career, it was more females that had me on their fantasy teams. But over the last year, more men are talking to me about how much they have won because of me. I never mind a check or percentage of that .. for my foundation!
Jason Olathe Kansas
Hey Priest, what are your thoughts on this years TX/OU game
Priest Holmes (10:55 PM)
I think UT definately bounced back from the loss to Arkansas and put on a scrimmage against Rice. The matchup with OU and UT is just one of those games, it doesn't matter how much talent you have, it's about emotion and excitement. They will have to play tough for all four quarters.
Valley, Nebraska
With the media speculating you have been overused, I am curious to hear your side of the story. Would you like coach Vermeil to take some carries away? Or do you like taking the heavy workload and carrying the offense on your back?
Priest Holmes (10:56 PM)
I actually enjoy it. That's the responsiblity of the RB. It's a warrior position. You are constantly being hit by all 11 defenders. When they talk about being overused, that is just the media getting excited about me beating the TD record. It was just one way for them to run with it in the media. You won't find too many RBs complaining about getting too many carries. If you are in a groove, you want to stay there.
Alan, NJ
What kind of organization is Team Priest and who does it help? BTW im lovin the ride (ridin on spinnas!)
Priest Holmes (10:57 PM)
Yeah, it's a community organization that brings excitement locally to the K.C. Fans. We created the web site to be more active with the fans, esp. children. You can enter contests and do all kinds of things. Most recently, we worked with inner city schools and provided custom mouth pieces for the athletes.
Rob (Memphis)
How do you like living in Kansas City?
Priest Holmes (10:59 PM)
The Midwest is different, coming from Baltimore. Life is pretty fast on the East Coast and then you come here where one of the main focuses of the city is sports .. and barbeque. It made quite a difference in my life. I've never seen a city so involved with sports. Out stadium is a couple yards from Royals Stadium and it is really exciting.
Bronx, New York
Do you think you have a chance to break the single season rushing mark. -Thomas
Priest Holmes (11:00 PM)
Well, that really isn't my concern going into this season. One record I feel I will be able to come in reach of is the TD record. If I'm scoring TDs and the team is scoring TDs, we will be a more successful club.
Garrett K Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Where do you plan to play after your contract runs out?
Priest Holmes (11:00 PM)
I'm going to retire a Chief. That was one of my goals I wanted to achieve by getting into this current contract. It feels great. Going into my seventh year, I was ready to be anchored in one place.
chicago
Priest it seems like everytime you score on a run your fullback is always there to make the block. Do you perfer the I formation or singleback?
Priest Holmes (11:02 PM)
I'm different. When you see Barry Sanders, you usually see him in a single back position. I really belive to be in sync, it helps to have that fullback back there. When it comes time to get on the goaline, you bring the fullback in. Having him in the midfield is great as well..
Navid, Sacramento Ca
Hey Priest, I would just like to say that it's because of you that I continue to come in first place in my fantasy league, my question is, how good do you get along with Trent Green and the rest of the offense? I just never see you talking to them on the sidelines ever...
Priest Holmes (11:03 PM)
When I'm on the sidelines, I talk to the offensive linemen and fullbacks. Trent comes to me if he has any adjustments he wants me to make. It's important for the QB and RB to communicate. I definately enjoy any comments I get from him. It's never been a problem with us.
John Orlando FL
A lot of people compare you to Marshall Faulk...How would you compare your style to his?
Priest Holmes (11:04 PM)
I think our styles are very different. He is very elusive and I'm more of a workhorse. There are a few things we share and that's making plays. But our movement on the field is a little differenet.
Clayton, NC
Priest, what were your thoughts on Lewis's breaking of the single game record. Do your see it being broken again anytime soon?
Priest Holmes (11:05 PM)
I see that record being broken. You just never know which Sunday a RB is going to go off. It speaks volumes about Jamal's work ethic coming off knee surgery. He had a great season last year as well.
Hollis, Georgia
Priest, what is the derivation of your name just wondering if there's a special story there.
Priest Holmes (11:06 PM)
No story. My mother had X, Fox and Priest as choices so it was a no-brainer! No really story though.
Warpaint
when are we going to be able to buy some of those cool Team Priest t-shirts from your website?
Priest Holmes (11:06 PM)
Yes! Just check back second week of October and we will have merchandise available.
Bisco (Galway, Eire)
Why the heck did Baltamore get rid of you?
Priest Holmes (11:08 PM)
I think it was more Brian Billick. The running style he wanted was more a larger size back. At the time in the conf. and our division, you had Bettis, Dillon, Eddie George, when they got Jamal, he was the blueprint they wanted. I didn't match up as well. Plus, the running style there was 3 yards and a cloud of dust and that's just not my style.
Ollie (River Falls)
Hey Priest. Is there a way that fans can send in contributions to Team Priest? Where can we send donations to? Keep running.
Priest Holmes (11:08 PM)
Any contributions ... just click on teampriest.com and go to the contact icon .. click on that and you will see an address where all mail is received.
Ross (Edina, MN)
Priest, what are your plans after the NFL? Business/Pleasure?
Priest Holmes (11:12 PM)
I think I'll stay pretty busy. I'm very competitive. The hitting and contact may end but my competitive drive will still be there. I will have lots of choices at the end of my career. Thanks to everyone for logging onto the chat.. this was a lot of fun. I will be back at halftime next Monday to take more of your questions! Be sure and check out www.teampriest.com!
