College Football Show
SportySpice (3:34 PM)
Ok everybody, listen up. It's your moderator here. We'll kick this thing off in about a half hour. Send in any topics you'd like to discuss today or any big predictions you have about this weekend and we'll try to work them in later on. Go grab a cold drink and come back ready to argue -- it's Show time! See you at 4!
SportySpice (4:01 PM)
It's 4:00, away we go! First topic on the table -- Week 4's rankings. What are you thoughts? Everybody satisfied?
Luke Dunellen NJ
Texas is overrated every year as are the Sooners. Oklahoma is not even the best team in their own state the last two years. Houston Nutt deserves major kudos. One of the most underrated coaches in the land today.
Steve: Adel, Ga
Texas has loads more talent than Arkansas and I cannot understand how Arkansas won that game. I will go ahead and say it, Arkansas stinks:always has, always will. Texas simply can't win a big game -- although I would never ever consider Arkansas a big game. Arkansas will get theirs in Tuscaloosa next week. Arkansas ranked? I guess they earned it but what joke!!
Nick, Columbus, OH
If Arkansas is overrated, where does that leave Texas. I think Mack Brown was a step down from John Mackovic & that is saying something!
JDub (Columbus)
Steve, Arkansas can't be that bad. They just beat UT, so what's UT? They get the hype every year and fail. At least this year they are out of the way earlier.
Josh, Doylestown PA
Texas isn't overrated, they are overconfident. You need to win big games before you slack off
SportySpice (4:09 PM)
Ok, let's talk No. 1 -- does everybody agree the Sooners should be sitting on top?
Kelly Jacksonville,fl
Even though i am a huge seminole fan, i still think Osu should be number one until they loose. THey are the champs and deserve to be number 1. THey have the longest winning streak and have survived many close games.
Scott (Sellersburg, Ind)
I think you have to have Miami over Oklahoma. OK they beat Alabama, who cares? Miami came back on the team who is going to win the SEC. Wassup there?
Alex, Chicago
How in the world are the defending national champions, the team with the nation's longest Division 1-A winning streak, ranked 4th in one poll and 5th in the other? What a complete lack of respect and a total slap in the face. If it was Miami in Ohio State's position, they would still be ranked #1. I can't WAIT until we spank overrated Michigan in the last game to vault the Bucks back into the National Championship Game.
Adam, Cedar Rapids
There is no way that Ohio State should be ranked anywhere near the top 10..They are living on dreams of last year. They are as overrated as Notre Dame!
98farmer (knoxville, tenn)
sooners#1 michigan.#2 miami.#3 ohio st.#4 usc#5
Patrick (Mule Town, TN)
I agree that OSU should be at #1 until they are beat, but they aren't th #1 team in the country.. my vote is for the Sooners
Steve: Adel, Ga
I think Oklahoma should be #1 and Miami a close second.
Nick (Blacksburg)
Wait a second, something to clarify here ... Florida will NOT win the SEC this year! The winner of the LSU-UGA game will.
Brian (Baton Rouge, LA)
That's right! Florida is not going to win the SEC, LSU is. Second of all, Ohio State should be on top given they haven't lost.
Matt, West Lafayette
Nick from Blacksburg -- why aren't you reppin' your Hokies??
SportySpice (4:20 PM)
Good question! Let's talk about that for a minute. The No. 8 Virginia Tech Hokies stay at home on Blacksburg's Stadium Lane this week to face the Texas A&M Aggies. What do you guys think? What's the weather like down there? Game on?
Hokie stuck in Texas
Does aTm really have a chance in the weather against VT's stingy defense and overpowering running game?
Nick (Columbus, OH)
Of course the game will be played -- even if the Governor calls a state of emergency -- VT is so "national TV coverage" happy they would play during World War 3. None of those people are going to miss a game because of a little hurricane.
SportySpice (4:24 PM)
Careful Nick, thems fightin' words.
Matt (Dallas, TX)
I don't think A&M could have a chance scoring against my grandma in the rain and wind they're supposed to see, let alone versus the hokies.
Dan in the Burg
The weather isn't as bad as it could be and the students are really jacked for this game. Funny thing with us... as the weather gets worse, we get louder. Tune in, we will not disappoint
Frank, Dallas
It'll be a mud bowl, TAMU pulls it out with fewer turn overs!!!!!!!!!
Travis (Norman, Ok)
As much as i want the aggies to win for the big XII, I just dont think they have the team that will beat the hokies. They are simply too young.
Scott, Baton Rouge
I hope they play or my $50 bet will have no action! The Hokies will cover the 14.5 spread with their running game.
Dan (Blacksburg)
I'll represent the Hokies... Tonight we are going to roll over a much weaker Texas A&M team and then we are going to take care of business in Pitt and in WVU and then we are going to beat Miami on November 1st. We will finish the season by celebrating our Sugar Bowl bid after beating UVA in Charlottesville. This is the year of the Hokies
Ross, (CS, texas)
Hey now, we Aggies have a chance in tonight's game. We are coming off a week of rest, a time where our young players have worked on their mistakes from the first two games. Also, I dont quite know what VT was prepairing for when they watched video....they havn't seen a bit of good aggie football. We may suprise some tonight! GIG'EM AGS!!!
Rey (mt laurel, nj)
Remember last year when thea ags pulled off the upset against OU? It's true, they can be surprising!
Volman (Bristol, TN)
It's supposedly always the year of the Chokies, but it never seems to happen.
Joey (Tifton, GA)
On to the next topic. How can the game of the week be Michigan against Oregan? When UGA/LSU and Tenn/UF is playing. Both of those games are much better.
TODD IN GAINESVILLE, GA
GEORGIA AND LSU MEET ON SATURDAY, AND ONE OF THEM IS GOING TO WALK AWAY WITH THEIR FIRST LOSS OF THE SEASON. GEORGIA HAS MADE SEVERAL MISTAKES EARLY IN THE SEASON, I.E. PENALTIES VS. MTSU, AND IS MISSING 2 KEY PLAYERS DUE TO INJURY. LSU HAS YET TO PLAY A REAL TEAM THIS YEAR. WHO HAS THE BEST CHANCE OF WINNING ON SATURDAY?
SportySpice (4:35 PM)
Hey guys. Well, it looks like you took care of my subject change, but let me say this real quick to you Hokie and Aggie fans out there. While you are watching the game tonight (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN), log on to ESPN.com's College GameDay Online for special in-game analysis from Jim Donnan, Ivan Maisel, and more. There will be some cool stuff going on. Check it out. Gooluck to you guys. Stay dry!
Josh (Baton Rouge, LA)
I think the LSU-UGA is really gonna be who comes out and executes the best. If LSU comes out and plays a mistake free game, since they are at home, I think they win. If they turn the ball over more than 2 times they will lose. Never less i'll still support my Tigers. GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!!!!
Lucas (Texas)
As much as I dislike LSU, I think they are coming together and have the best chance of running the table in the SEC.
lump (tigerland)
tiger bait! tiger bait! tiger stadium will be the difference...92,000+ drunk cajuns! although its a day game, it still puts overrated stadiums like neyland to shame...anyone who has been to both can testify.
steve OREGON
That is east coast mentality for ya, We out west are forced to watch all the crapy games coming in from places like florida and tennesseeeee
Portland, OR
I think the Oregon/Michigan game will be the game of the year. Oregon is gonna come out on top, and get the respect the Pac-10's deserved since the beginning of the BCS
Marty: Manchester MI
I think we find out if Michigan is for real this week. Oregon will test Michigans DB's and not since the Woodson days have they been consistant vs a passing attack. Your thoughts?
Bill (Ann Arbor, MI)
Something is in the air here in Ann Arbor. This is the first year people don't see the players out at parties or clubs because they're sleeping and dreaming about a national title. It's all business here in Ann Arbor so watch out national title pretenders because the Wolverines are coming! Go Blue!
Graus (Bellevue)
Oregon doesn't play defense. Michigan will win this going away.
Gary (Seattle)
Hey Steve in Oregon, the Michigan-Oregon game is on tv here. The reason UF/UT and UGA/LSU games are on is because they are the best games. Period.
Volman (Bristol, TN)
The only team worth watching on the West Coast is USC. Apparently Steve doesn't like real football like the SEC plays.
Scott (Baton Rouge)
Without the SEC, college football would not be the same!
Brian (Eugene, OR)
Enough about the SEC, lets talk about the game of the week, Michigan and Oregon. If Oregon can stop Michigan in the air (big if) then I really like Oregons chances. This game is going to tell both teams alot about their respective teams. Although I feel Michigan is the best team in the country, look for me on top of the goalposts Saturday celebrating a Ducks win.
Tim Portland Ore
Bigger isn't always louder... The 58,000 at Autzen will rattle MICH. They are right on top of you.... GO DUCKS!
James (Norman, OK)
OU beats Michigan by 10. Seven if it's in the big house.
Jill (Waterloo, IA)
I am tired of everybody discussing the same old games. How about we discuss the Iowa/ASU game. Do you think Iowa can pull off the win even with all of their injuries?
Dan (Urbandale, Iowa)
The Hawkeyes are going to beat he Sundevils in Iowa City on Saturday by more than 10 points without Mo Brown and Bob Sanders,
j.c.(norman,ok.)
they play football in iowa?
Jason (West Lafayette)
Iowa by 10...Sun Devils have looked weak in first two games against cupcake opponents!
Brian (Eugene, OR)
I'm thinking no, ASU's passing game is looking very good again.
Kyle (Santa Monica, CA)
Absolutely, ASU is one of those teams (like Auburn) that writers bandwagoned in August. Their offense has been suspect and their defense is non-existent. Walters is a solid QB, but the team has lots of holes.
Dave LA, CA
I guess the Hawkeye fans didn't learn anything after the smackdown they received from USC last year. The Pac-10 is for real and ASU will beat Iowa this weekend. Hopefully it's closer than the Orange Bowl.
Patrick (Mule Town, TN)
Hey Jill if the Hawkeyes stay good, people will be tired of talking about them, but until then, these same old games are the ones folks will talk about
mike cola, sc
big 10, pac 10...who cares
HokieEagle (Hinesville, GA)
Hey! How come no one's even mentioning the upset brewing in Chestnut Hill. Boston College always plays Miami tough, and this just might be the year they pull off the upset. Regardless, take BC and the points with as much as you can possibly afford to wager.
jeff:jacksonville,fl
The Canes are on the road playing in a venue that causes them trouble!
GoCanes(Lexington,KY)
The only reason B.C plays Miami tough is due to the weather. If its anything above seventy degrees the canes will role.
PITT04 Denver
PITT and MIA go to the last game of the year undeated? Do you see that as a battle for #1..
Tim Portland Ore
Please let's talk about the Big East instead of that SEC crap
Kevin (OR)
Or what's left of the Big East this last year???
Jason (knoxville)
The best conference in the country from top to bottom is without a doubt the SEC. As much as I dislike Florida, Alabama and Georgia because I'm a Tennessee fan, I'm glad we're all in the same conference to make it the best in America.
Marco (Fairfax)
On paper the SEC is the best but the Big 12 rules all.
SGT Hokie (Fort Stewart, GA)
Miami, Virginia Tech, Pitt.. no conference has a better top three than the BEast. As for next year.. muahahaha.. the ACC's gonna run roughshod over the rest of college football. Four or five of the top ten in ONE conference?
AgBBQ (DFW TX)
Forget the SEC. What is this the 80's? The Big XII is on top and has been. Check the polls people. I'm all for a NCAA playoff so we can end the useless bickering.
SportySpice (5:10 PM)
Alright boys, break it up. We could go back and forth on conferences all night. I have one more question ... Bowling Green and Ohio State ... any thoughts?
Jesse (Cincinnati, OH)
How come nobody cares about the OSU-Bowling Green game. BG just beat a ranked Purdue team at Purdue and are blowing out all of their opposition so far. This could be a great game but everyone is considering it an easy win for Ohio State.
Kevin (OR)
The Defense of OSU gives them the edge they need. Sorry Bowling Green, there's always next year.
Kyle (Santa Monica, CA)
Josh Harris homecoming, Krenzel out, OSU due for a loss, and the Falcons record against BCS teams in recent years add up to a Bowling Green upset
Gus (Dallas)
BGSU - take the points.
Gene (Orlando)
Bowling Green? No one cares about BOWLING GREEN. There are real football games this weekend.
raphe (norman,OK)
Yeah! Quit talking about the minor league games and get on to OU. How bad will they beat UCLA?
ED (oklahoma)
ou cant loose this year ... ready for the sugar bowl
Scott (Denver)
Time's almost up ... let's talk who will be undefeted at year's end, and if so, Who?
SportySpice (5:18 PM)
Good idea Scott. This is the last topic! Who will be perfect at season's end? Anybody?
Eric (norman)
Undefeated......Oklahoma and Michigan!
Sebastian (Jersey)
Pittsburgh will be undeafeated this season.
James (Norman, OK)
The Sooners...schedule's perfect and Stoops won't lose a bowl game against any team that I see.
Tye (MHK)
Kansas State- 15-0
Scott (Baton Rouge)
I could see Kansas St, Michigan, OU, or Miami all going undefeated
James (Norman, OK)
Pittsburgh? Uh....yeah....keep smokin' it man.
Chad, Columbus, OH
I hate to say it, but USC because they are in the always soft Pac 10. USC and Michigan for it all. Ohio State can deny all they want, but they miss Clarett and will have to settle on 10-2.
sebastian (jersey)
OUs defense is overrated and the boomers will lose again to Okie St!
SportySpice (5:24 PM)
Hey Scott, I don't usually pick on fence-sitters, but OU and Kansas State can't both be your undefeated picks.
scott GA
hello GEORGIA any questions??????
Larry, Salina, OK
OU's defense did take a hit with the loss of Mitchell but they will not lose to OSU (Cowboys).
J.C.(NORMAN,OK.)
OU #1 AND UDEFETED
Harry Dangler, MA
Larry...so you are implying that they will lose to OSU (Buckeyes). 21-17
Lance FL
Georgia is out this weekend
Tye (MHK)
Right sporty. K-State will beat OU in snowy KC the first week of December.
Jamie (Knoxville, TN)
OU No. 1? Get a conference! The only reason OU will have a great record is because they play in the Big 12. They will lost a big game somewhere along the way.
Kevin (OR)
What? Oklahoma has never played in snow? Sorry, Sooners will take care of business there
Eric (Norman)
Hey Tye, are you sure that K-State won't opt to play a division 2 team in the first week of Devember?
SportySpice (5:33 PM)
Alrighty fellas, before it gets ugly in here, I'm pulling the plug on this thing. Everybody was talking a good game in here, we'll see who's big predictions hold up. Good times folks, we'll do it again next week. See you Thursday, thanks for all the comments!
Scott (Baton Rouge)
The final word: There is going to be some great football this weekend and the rest of the year. In the end we are all diehard fans and love the sport. May the best team win!
SportySpice (5:38 PM)
Cheesy but true, Scott! :) Goodnite! Don't forget to tune into the Battle in Blacksburg tonight 7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN.
