Paul Kuharsky (3:01 PM)
Greetings people and pets. We thank you for your presence and are grateful for your readership.
Ned (Jacksonville)
Paul, Realistically, does Del Rio still keep his job if jags don't make playoffs?
Paul Kuharsky (3:02 PM)
Not impossible. Still owed $5 million next year, can say he was playing a rookie QB. But staff is lame duck, situation is complicated.
Anthony (Cleveland)
What is your opinion on the Morgan fine/flag. Watching the game it din't even initially look like Flacco was touched before Morgan hit him, meaning the play was not dead. It wasn't even a hard hit!
Paul Kuharsky (3:02 PM)
You have to be able to go for a fumble without taking the time to sort out who else is going for it.
Stu (VA)
Who is the most physically gifted player you've ever seen play?
Paul Kuharsky (3:02 PM)
Top of my head, if we're talking in person, Jevon Kearse.
Jose (Miami)
If the Texans win this week in New Orleans should they be considered a top 5 team?
Paul Kuharsky (3:03 PM)
I've already got them 5 I believe. I think even if they lose and play well they can stake a claim.
joe (ct)
hey paul,Week 16 is the starter tate or foster?
Paul Kuharsky (3:03 PM)
If they're healthy? Arian Foster.
Ken (Buffalo)
There was some talk a couple years ago about Bill Cower becoming the Jaguars coach and then we heard he purchased a home in the area, is there a chance that he would really come coach the Jaguars?
Paul Kuharsky (3:04 PM)
No. They can't afford him.
Jared (Indianapolis)
Paul, why do you think the Colts didn't take a closer look at bring Sorgi back with such short notice? From the 5 minutes or so when Manning wasn't on the field, he seemed to fare pretty well even with the backups, and I'm sure he knows the system still.
Paul Kuharsky (3:04 PM)
We don't know that they didn't. But he had a bad shoulder last we saw him. And 31 other teams in a league with weak backups weren't knocking on his door either.
Aaron (St. Louis)
Paul, I don't know if you like these kind of questions, but in the back of my mind, I've considered Brady slightly better than Manning due to his success at New England this past decade, but if the Colts do go 2-14 or 3-13, does it make a more compelling argument that Manning really is the best QB in the league, maybe in history? If an annual, 12 win team, can't win 3 or 4 without him, that says A LOT about what he brings to the table. Patriots won 11 without Brady...
Paul Kuharsky (3:05 PM)
I'm really not into forming the argument about Manning's value based on their struggles without him. That has a lot to do with how the team is shaped. He didn't decide how the team is shaped.
Trip (Jax)
Do you resent Gabbert for his beautiful golden locks?
Paul Kuharsky (3:06 PM)
Does he resent Bruce Willis? Andre Agassi? Ed Harris? Matt Hasselbeck?
Nate (Bay Minette, AL)
The Titans interior line is still not moving anyone. Can Munch and Matthews really have a blind spot that big, or do they know something we don't know?
Paul Kuharsky (3:07 PM)
Was better against Baltimore. I still tend to think they know something we don't.
Dustin (Stanford CA)
Hey Paul, What do you think is wrong with CJ?
Paul Kuharsky (3:07 PM)
Nothing. Couple bad games. Not all him.
Jay (Cookeville, TN)
What should we expect from Gabbert in his first start? Cam Newton like numbers? McCown week 1 numbers? McCown week 2 numbers?
Paul Kuharsky (3:08 PM)
They aren't getting 400 yards. I think a well managed game with two big downfield plays would be a reasonable expectation. They could win such a game.
Terence (Nashville)
You and Whitney on the fans wearing jerseys issue- who bit-hacked who?
Paul Kuharsky (3:09 PM)
I've been saying it for as long as I can remember and she'd just a kid. But two smart people can come up with the same idea independent of each other. Smart is smart, right.
Peter (Denver)
What are you looking for in the Broncos-Titans game this weekend?
Paul Kuharsky (3:09 PM)
I am not a big believer in the Broncos and have not been for some time.
Trip (Jacksonville)
Courtney Greene has been a liability for the Jags D since last year. I think Lowery will be a HUGE upgrade, even though he's not great, and our pass defense will be considerably improved by the switch. Thoughts?
Paul Kuharsky (3:10 PM)
I like it too. Anxious to see.
Blake (Nashville)
Whenever these chats get you winded, do you ever fall down and fake an injury?
Paul Kuharsky (3:11 PM)
Some of the questions are like a punch to the gut, and then I have to hunch over like Letterman mid-monologue for real anyway.
Darryl (Seattle)
One of the many Seahawks fans here in Seattle who switched to our CBS affiliate by halftime to root on Hasselbeck instead of watching the Seahawks abysmal offense. We miss him... is he better than you anticipated (and do you think he may get on more people's radars on the east coast this year?)
Paul Kuharsky (3:11 PM)
First game bad. Second game great. Can't do any anointing off of that. Was better in practices I watched in preseason than I expected, for sure.
Frank (Pell Lake, WI)
If both stay healthy, who has a better season: Jermichael Finley or Jared Cook?
Paul Kuharsky (3:12 PM)
Finley. By a lot.
Dustin (Stanford CA)
Hey Paul, what do you think about Klug? Is he the next KVB?
Paul Kuharsky (3:12 PM)
They don't play the same position. I love him, though. He's been excellent.
Glen (Fl)
It's not getting alot of attention because of the score last week, but Jags have the #5 defense atm if I recall. Does Cam light them up this week or have the free agent pick-ups and maturing of our young DT's made them for real?
Paul Kuharsky (3:12 PM)
I expect a solid defensive performance.
Blake (Nashville)
Paul, in your opinion from covering him, is Reggie Wayne Hall of Fame bound?
Paul Kuharsky (3:13 PM)
Not quite yet. Another Super Bowl win would do wonders. The receiver competition is so crowded. He's excellent and has a good chance, but is not a slam dunk by my thinking. Not yet.
Chalres (Goodlettsville)
What's the best new tv show of the fall?
Paul Kuharsky (3:15 PM)
Well, start with my girl Whitney tonight. And last night, "Two Broke Girls." "Homeland" on Showtime looks phenomenal. I have a lot of stuff scheduled to record, too.
Charles (Columbia, SC)
Based on his first two games this season and last years performance do you consider Kenny Britt a top 10 receiver? If not how far off is he?
Paul Kuharsky (3:15 PM)
I am fascinated by the fascination with where exactly he falls on a list. Why is it so important?
John (Anderson, TN)
so you're as funny as David Letterman now?
Paul Kuharsky (3:15 PM)
You hadn't heard?
Adam (Nashville)
Paul, BIG AFC West guy and I gotta know from the guy who knows him....Think Cortland will pop Orton if he can get the chance?
Paul Kuharsky (3:16 PM)
Absolutely. And he's playing nickel now, so he will get a chance because hell be blitzed from the slot.
Tom (London)
What do you make of Quin at safety - one thing is for sure, he is a good open field tackler
Paul Kuharsky (3:16 PM)
Looks good so far.
Atticus (Dallas)
So does that mean you ARE a believer in the Titans?
Paul Kuharsky (3:17 PM)
I believe they are better than the Broncos.
Frank (Pell Lake, WI)
I know the Titans keep a list of possible player pick ups for in case of injuries, but the Titans bringing in Clinton Portis just seems strange.
Paul Kuharsky (3:17 PM)
Seems like a you problem.
Chris (NC)
If Reggie goes to the Hall, McNair and a slew of others are sure to follow.
Paul Kuharsky (3:18 PM)
Don't see the connection between Reggie Wayne and Steve McNair, and McNair is defensively not going to the Hall of Fame.
Atticus (Dallas)
If you were Bud Adams, would you have paid CJ? I want a yes or no answer, not "It was a tough call, and we'll have to wait it out to see whether or not it works out for them"
Paul Kuharsky (3:19 PM)
That deal? Yes, absolutely.
Steven (Kingsport)
What happened with Courtland Finnegan, dude was a rolling ball of knives Sunday, he might have been the best defensive player on the field either team, if only for that one game?
Paul Kuharsky (3:19 PM)
Two words: Contract year. Two more: Better coordinator.
Blake (Nashville)
Does Jacob Lacey have some photos or dirt on Coach Cadwell?! How is he still starting over Justin Tryon? Lacey's pass coverage against Cleveland was abysmal!
Paul Kuharsky (3:19 PM)
It's confusing for all of us!
Ty (Nashville)
How long is Hasselbeck signed for? If Hasselbeck continues to put up respectable numbers...how long does it take for Locker time?
Paul Kuharsky (3:20 PM)
Three years. It was going to take a while even if Hasselbeck doesn't play great.
Michael (Chicago)
Is Andrew Luck the sure fire #1 if Colts receive the pick?
Paul Kuharsky (3:20 PM)
He should be.
Adam (Nashville)
out of division question, DeAngelo Hall comments about hitting Romo in the ribs if he gets a chance, foolish or fearless?
Paul Kuharsky (3:20 PM)
Fearless.
Jason (Bmore)
Was Ringer's health the only reason Harper was given a shot at the beginning of the season?
Paul Kuharsky (3:21 PM)
He's the third back. Very far ahead of the fourth back. But clearly behind the third back.
Jason (Bmore)
Munchak recently indicated he'd like to get Ringer more involved. Do you think this is an indictment of CJ's performance, or merely a reaction to CJ potentially being overworked the past few years?
Paul Kuharsky (3:22 PM)
B
Zack (Orange Park)
There seems to be a large number of injuries this year. Do you think it can be attributed to a lack of conditioning with the lockout or am I just over-thinking this one?
Paul Kuharsky (3:22 PM)
B
Adam (Nashville)
You said the Raiders look like a real team when you ranked the league...they have the Jets and Pats next two weeks, if they split, do they hover around the same ranking you have them at now? If the lose both, do you take into consideration the calibre of teams the lost to? How does it work in your mind
Paul Kuharsky (3:23 PM)
Week to week. A split would be strong. And I'd venture a guess they get it.
Michael (Indianapolis)
Is Caldwell being out coached. Halftime doesn't change anything.
Paul Kuharsky (3:24 PM)
They aren't losing because of the coaching.
brandon (texas)
how suprised are you with houstons defense thus far?
Paul Kuharsky (3:25 PM)
It's been good. But I am not impressed with the two offenses the Texans have stopped. And before someone runs to tell me what Miami did against New England, the Patriots' D is not good.
its (outta here)
do you like casey at fullback? he seems he is doing good so far but around the goal line would it be better to put in vickers?
Paul Kuharsky (3:27 PM)
Creates interesting matchups when he motions out. But as a true fullback, give me Vickers.
Adam (Nashville)
Yanks Clinched Paul...know you were watching. Since you live here, any chance we find a pub and throw back a few watching the world series?
Paul Kuharsky (3:27 PM)
I'll need a resume and a security guard.
Ryan (Nebraska)
As bad as McCown played last Sunday, don't you think a large portion of the problem was the simple fact that he was trying to hit Mike Thomas and Cecil Shorts with people like Revis and Cromartie in coverage? I mean yes they're all pro athletes, but the difference in skill there is staggering. Do you see the Jags making a move, ever to improve the receiving corp? yeah, Reggie WIlliams and Matt Jones busted, but I gotta think we can find someone to catch the dang ball
Paul Kuharsky (3:28 PM)
Yes, that was an enormous part of the problem. But if they're covered, don't try to hit them.
Jeff (Indianapolis)
Do you think the Colts are better of leaving Angerer starting at MLB instead of Gary Brackett (Past his Prime) which allows Phillip Wheeler to play SLB giving them more size and physicality in the run game?
Paul Kuharsky (3:29 PM)
No. I think they need Brackett out there. Wheeler's the guy who disappoints over and over.
Frank (Pell Lake, WI)
When Ahmard Hall returns from suspension, do the Titans keep Quinn Johnson and cut someone else?
Paul Kuharsky (3:30 PM)
I can't stand the idea of multiple fullbacks and protest over Jacksonville keeping two (three if you count Owens, but he can count as a special teams ace).
Marc (Las Vegas)
A lot of the national media dump on the Jaguars, for multiple reasons, but never suggest how to "fix" what is broken. If you were Wayne Weaver, what would be your plan to get the Jags a super bowl?
Paul Kuharsky (3:32 PM)
I don't pretend to know how to fix it. But what the NFL should have done is not created a franchise to be broken. It's not really an NFL market there, many believe. {LATE ADD: Gene Smith was promoted to fix it. Give him the resources and time.]
Ryan (Rochester, NY)
Will Manning become the first player to win the MVP award without playing a game? I'm joking of course, but if they lose 14 games this season it will be hard to say any player is more valuable to their team...
Paul Kuharsky (3:33 PM)
No it really won't be hard to say that Aaron Rodgers or Drew Brees or Tom Brady, playing was more valuable than Peyton Manning not playing. I wish I could declare the joke dead at this time.
Matt (Schaub)
If I go out and get my newborn twins a win over NO for their birthday, will people stop saying i'm injury prone and recognize that I am at least way above average?
Paul Kuharsky (3:34 PM)
Are you reading stories from two years ago? Because I haven't heard anyone call you injury-prone in some time. Not clutch. I've heard them say that.
alex (nashville)
From watching the games it seems to me that Tulloch is a better option than Rudd, hes weak at tackling and his pass coverage isnt nearly as good as advertised. Do you think the titans made a mistake by not bringing him back? And do you think McCarthy gets a chance to play?
Paul Kuharsky (3:35 PM)
IT'S TWO GAMES. Ruud's a good player. And way more cost effective.
Christopher (Tennessee)
Do you think Nate Washington will continue his increased production and how do you explain the sudden disappearance of his 'drops'?
Paul Kuharsky (3:35 PM)
ONE GAME. A very good game. But let's not claim he's cured.
Zack (Orange Park)
Paul, you are stuck on a deserted island with Vince Young and Tim Tebow. Do you bring: a.) a spare tire, b.) a kite, c.) a pair of ice skates or d.) a bowling ball
Paul Kuharsky (3:36 PM)
I let Tim decide.
DeAngelo Vickers (Scranton, PA)
If I can't run a good paper supply company, what makes you think I'd be a good fullback?
Paul Kuharsky (3:36 PM)
Boy were you bad on that show. I mean what happened? You were played by a funny man, but your character was just terrible.
Josh (Jacksonville)
Gabbert will be the true test of Gene Smith, his picks so far have been spotty at best, Oustside of Pot Roast and Alualu he hasen't impressed. If Gabbert isen't everything he is suppossed to be will we dump clean Gene and start the rebuild again?
Paul Kuharsky (3:37 PM)
Already with this? Yes, Smith will be judged on Gabbert. In three years, minimum.
Kevin (Indy)
Does He-who-must-not-be-named make sense for the Colts? Collins is playing real bad, but I gotta believe #4 would fair just as poorly.
Paul Kuharsky (3:38 PM)
There is no way the Polians are going that direction. I just cannot imagine it.
Dr. H. Doofenshmirtz (Tri-State Area)
Any idea what the Colts' time frame is on making a decision on Manning (IR or not IR)?
Paul Kuharsky (3:39 PM)
When they have seven additional guys hurt that they need to deactivate on a Sunday, then they'll need Manning's spot. Until then there is no reason for concern about it.
David (Nashville)
Which is more difficult: Shutting down Andre Johnson, or diagramming a sentence spoken by Frank Wycheck?
Paul Kuharsky (3:40 PM)
Equally difficult. Wycheck won't be happy I posted this.
Ken (Buffalo)
what coach CAN the Jags afford when it comes time to replace Del Rio??
Paul Kuharsky (3:41 PM)
Take away huge names who've won Super Bowls or been to them. Start there.
Mark (Nashville)
Was Britt at practice today? Are his hammy's going to cost us a few games again??
Paul Kuharsky (3:41 PM)
They are practicing right now. I am not allowed to look. We'll know what he did or didn't do in about an hour.
Zack (Orange Park)
If you are flying to Egypt and the man next to you in first class asks for the time, what do you do?
Paul Kuharsky (3:42 PM)
Why am I flying to Egypt? Can I bring my family? Isn't it dangerous there right now?
Jason (Jacksonville)
The idea that Jax is not a viable market and the subject of blackouts seem to go hand-in-hand. What's your take on the blackout rule in today's game, with all the at-home viewing options? Still a must to "protect the product" or does it keep a franchise from truly taking hold in a market?
Paul Kuharsky (3:43 PM)
Smart rule. Make them come. Make having them come be priority one for every franchise. The NFL is not going to be as great a TV product if the stands are not full.
Rob (NY)
Why has Jared Cook's involvement so far been so minimal? After all that preseason hype, I was expecting him to at least be the no. 2 option in the passing game...
Paul Kuharsky (3:43 PM)
Sometimes it's just a quarterback reading the progressions of the plays called.
Thomas (DC)
Odds on the Colts not finishing in last place now in the AFC South this year?
Paul Kuharsky (3:44 PM)
96 percent.
Thomas (DC)
To expand on the Ahmard Hall question, any chance the Titans dump Sarge after the suspension and go with the younger option Q. Johnson?
Paul Kuharsky (3:44 PM)
Highly doubt it.
Mitchell (Houston)
Is it just me or has Duane Brown really stepped up his game on the line for us this year?
Paul Kuharsky (3:45 PM)
He's been great. Seems bigger/ stronger/ more determined. Great to see.
Kevin (Jacksonville, FL)
Is Tampa Bay a viable NFL Market? What about San Diego?
Paul Kuharsky (3:46 PM)
They have long-time history. What did Jacksonville have? I think the team gets a bum rap. But that doesn't mean the league was right to go there. The while turn a college hotbed into an NFL hotbed has not really worked there.
Elizabeth (Goofing off at Work)
I picked the Titans to win in week 1 and to lose in week 2 in the office pool. Am I obligated as a fan to pick them to lose again this week since I appear to be cursed?
Paul Kuharsky (3:47 PM)
Pick with your brain and eventually you will be correct. I think.
BIG TIME (SEC)
Now that Manning is out and the Colts terrible, how does it feel to cover the worst division next to the BIG East?
Paul Kuharsky (3:47 PM)
You familiar with the NFC West?
Kevin (Jacksonville, FL)
Why does everyone want to blame Del Rio and fire him? If heard someone say recently, "if you give even Bobby Flay a dozen eggs and a pile of cow manure, it's still not going to be something you want to eat"? Sigh. Still reeling from the effects of the James Harris era. I sure hope he's not allowed to push any special red buttons up Detroit for their sake.
Paul Kuharsky (3:48 PM)
He's the third-longest tenured coach in the league and has won how many playoff games? It doesn't matter if the GM has been or should be fired too, you don't get forever.
Atticus (Dallas)
Have you ever been at work sitting in front of a computer with absolutely nothing to do, so you read articles all day and chat on an AFC South blog, and switch to a spreadsheet whenever someone walks by? ....Yeah... I've never done that either :-/
Paul Kuharsky (3:49 PM)
You, fine sir, are my lifeblood.
Finley (via mobile)
Dude! Egypt! We are there, man. You'll be able to easily cover the Jags when they move to Cairo.
Paul Kuharsky (3:49 PM)
Have you ever sniffed around a cargo hold, bud?
Charles (Goodlettsville)
Has the fake injury thing gotten too much run so far?
Paul Kuharsky (3:50 PM)
Way too much.
joe (ct)
it seems owen daniels hasnt been much of a factor minus a td last week??? all offseason we hear he is better than his pro bowl year? does he see more action against the saints???
Paul Kuharsky (3:50 PM)
It's TWO GAMES.
Trip (Jacksonville)
With all this Jacksonville talk being a viable market, I think we have one huge thing going for us that few other teams have; a single sports team for the city. It is easy for fans to jump from sport to sport based on how well their teams are playing that year.
Paul Kuharsky (3:51 PM)
Agree it can be, and should be, an advantage.
Ben (Charleston)
I think there should be new rule--let's call it the "What, you wanna cookie?" rule--for players that do dances and scream and such after non-scoring plays (i.e. Luke McCown after NOT picking up a first down against the Titans). Your thoughts?
Paul Kuharsky (3:51 PM)
I think there should be a rule that that question needs to be asked last week if that's the example.
Charles (Goodlettsville)
Alright you have ducked my "The Office" Regional Manager questions long enough.......who's it gonna be?
Paul Kuharsky (3:52 PM)
I don't know that I will watch anymore. Really dropped off last year and I dislike James Spader.
Zack (Orange Park)
You are flying to Egypt, because the U.S. had a wild outbreak of the Bubonic Plague. Africa is one of the last places on Earth that has not been infected. You won a lottery to escape.Your family has to stay behind. What do you do?
Paul Kuharsky (3:53 PM)
I send my son.
Kevin (Houston)
Stand out player of the AFC South through 2 weeks.
Paul Kuharsky (3:53 PM)
I'm going to go Andre Johnson.
Cat (Dallas)
Why are there so many people rooting against the Texans? Shouldn't people be excited about the underdogs finally making some noise?
Paul Kuharsky (3:53 PM)
Texans fans can be tough to deal with!
Zeke (Jax, Fl)
What percent that the Jags WILL finish in last place in AFC South?
Paul Kuharsky (3:54 PM)
11 percent.
Peyton Manning (Indianapolis)
Pete Kuharsky, I feel like my laser rocket arm should make me the most physically gifted player you've seen, but you didn't pick me. We haven't been communicating well and I feel left in the dark.
Paul Kuharsky (3:54 PM)
Chief, have you stood next to Jevon Kearse?
Kevin (Jacksonville, FL)
If they fire Jack Del Rio, he will go and win a championship elsewhere. Same thing as when they ran Coughlin out of town. Yeah, let's not do that one again, okay?
Paul Kuharsky (3:55 PM)
If they fire Del Rio, odds are he will be a linebacker coach somewhere else.
Ken (Buffalo)
Why can't the Jaguars afford a superbowl winning coach? We blow money on pricey free agents that suck or are already washed up like Hugh Douglas and Tory Holt. If we are going to just throw money around like that, spend it on a proven head coach.
Paul Kuharsky (3:56 PM)
Torry Holt was not expensive.
Bill Polian (Indianapolis)
I feel that the bubonic plague is correctable. Agree?
Paul Kuharsky (3:56 PM)
Nothing isn't.
Justin James (Houston)
JJ Watt is a beast. True or Fact?
Paul Kuharsky (3:56 PM)
True and Fact. Yes.
Zack (Orange Park)
It's too late Paul, you are already on the plane....
Paul Kuharsky (3:57 PM)
How did I get on the plane without being consulted? Was I drugged? Kidnapped? Why don't my people tell me of these developments?!
Jevon Kearse (USA)
Tell Peyton I might be the only human that could palm his melon!
Paul Kuharsky (3:58 PM)
I'll let you tell him.
Micah (JAX)
If JDR goes, Jags promote Koetter from within, you think?
Paul Kuharsky (3:59 PM)
Very possible. Presuming Gabbert shows good development. Also they could try to get Randy Edsall.
Paul Kuharsky (3:59 PM)
Well folks, you got it done. Appreciate your participation and enthusiasm. See you soon...
