Chat with Jared Dudley

Dudley was the 22nd overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft.
Welcome to SportsNation! On Thursday, despite the NBA lockout still in effect, we'll be talking some hoops with Phoenix Suns forward Jared Dudley.
Dudley played an important role coming off of the Suns' bench last season. He set career highs in points (10.6) and minutes (26.1) per game. He remains active on Twitter: @JaredDudley619.
ESPN.com has spent the offseason ranking every player in the NBA, from 1-500, as voted on by their 91 NBA experts. Dudley came in at No. 133.

Phoenix Suns' Jared Dudley will be here in a few minutes to chat!
Buzzmaster (5:02 PM)
We've got Jared!
Tyler (San Diego)
Jared, I have been a long time fan of yours coming out of Horizon High School myself. What do you think your chances are the next season to have more of a starting role for the Suns?
Jared Dudley (5:03 PM)
I think the chances are pretty good. I started the last 15 games or so last year. I think I averaged around 17 points. I'm training to go in there and be a starting shooting guard or small forward. I feel like this is my first year of doing that.
Garrett (Richmond, VA)
As a former player for BC, what do you think of the ACC adding Pitt and Syracuse?
Jared Dudley (5:04 PM)
I think it's kind of funny. When I played there my sophomore year, they were mad when we were leaving the conference and now they're in there. I think Syracuse should always be with UConn. UConn should leave with them. Syracuse has to play UConn every year.
Brian F. (San Diego)
What are you doing to keep in shape during this offseason of uncertainty?
Jared Dudley (5:05 PM)
For me, it's business as usual. I'm out in Vegas training. I've been here almost two months. We have the Impact Series where you train in the morning and have games at night. I'm in better shape this year than last year. The key is consistency.
Suns Fans (Everywhere)
What do the Suns need to do to get back into the championship contender conversation? Biggest needs right now?
Jared Dudley (5:05 PM)
Any time you deal with champions, you deal with dominating bigs or big time superstars. We have a superstar with Steve, but we need someone in the blocks who commands attention.
Nate Doornekamp (Odessa, Canada)
Jared, You had very limited bounce in college, yet as a pro you appear to be playing above the rim... what has been the change?
Jared Dudley (5:06 PM)
No change. It's a mindset mentality. I had a bet with my teammates that I could get more.
Marcus (The Bay)
Jared, what are the odds the NBA plays a full season this year and if they do any chance you start for the Suns?
Jared Dudley (5:07 PM)
I would say the odds are 50/50. That's realistic. We could not start on time and play a full season. We could start on time. It could go either way. It's a difficult situation.
Brian F. (San Diego)
Favorite away city and why?
Jared Dudley (5:08 PM)
Wow. I would say L.A. or New York. They are major cities. I'm a California kid, so LA. And New York has a different feel to it. Two great cities. Great teams.
3 Point Competion (ASW)
We got your eyes on you for the 3pt comp next year (assuming there is a season) how do you like your chances?
Jared Dudley (5:08 PM)
I did have my eyes on it. The last two years I thought I had a chance at it. Any time in a competition, I think I'd have a chance. Hopefully I get a chance.
KEvein (CT)
Jared, I see ESPN.com ranked you in the 130's overall player in the NBA......what do you think about that?
Jared Dudley (5:10 PM)
When I saw this on Twitter, I thought it was great. You got to have guts to rank players. And you have over 90 experts. They have a lot of experts watching basketball. It's an honor to be in the top 150. It shows how far I've come. Now, hopefully, I can have a great season and get into the top 100.
Matt (Sandusky, OH)
Jared, if the NBA lockout continues, will you play overseas this season?
Jared Dudley (5:10 PM)
I wouldn't. The reason is I just signed my new deal for 5 years. For me to get hurt over there and not be insured, they'd have to insure it for a lot of money. I can wait out a long lockout. I'll just be here working on my game.
Nate R. (San Fran)
Jdud, what's the best part about road trips?
Jared Dudley (5:11 PM)
The bonding with your teammates. You're going to get on each other's nerves. You go out to dinners. You're enjoying room service. Hanging out with the fellas. Hanging out and bonding.
Ray (Somewhere)
What are you gonna do during the season if the lockout continues?
Jared Dudley (5:12 PM)
I'll go back and train until October to November. Then if it's still going on, I'll come back out to Vegas to Impact. There are a lot of guys here, 20 pros. I'll play 1-2 times per week at least to keep my body used to it.
Sitton (Sun Diego)
What are some of your favorite restaurants in Phoenix? If you like pizza, you have to try Cibo. Thanks
Jared Dudley (5:13 PM)
I haven't tried Cibo. Grimaldis is my favorite pizza place. City Hall is my favorite restaurant. They have great steaks. Lobster mac.
Jr (Arizona)
You keeping in touch with your Suns teammates?
Jared Dudley (5:13 PM)
Always. We have a mini camp in San Diego. I've talked to Steve. We talk on Twitter some, but on the phone too.
John P (chicago)
Mr Dudley, is there ever a positive side to a lockout?
Jared Dudley (5:14 PM)
The positive side for me is being out here and getting more training in, so if we start on time, I'll be ahead of the curve. But there are no positives if you're dealing with games being cancelled and fans not being able to watch.
David (Boston College)
Duds, miss you here at BC. Can only imagine what that 06/07 team could've done if it stayed in tact. Any chance you come up for a game this season?
Jared Dudley (5:15 PM)
I was thinking about going to a football game, but after losing to Duke, I don't know! I'll try. I want to try and make it up for a basketball game.
Willow (Southside)
Jared, as a 4 year starter in college, would you like to see the NBA mandate that players have at least 3 years in college before turning Pro? It certainly benefited you.
Jared Dudley (5:16 PM)
That's why you have the option. I don't think you should mandate. It's not football where your body needs the time. I think one year is fine. If you're not ready to go, you shouldn't go. You know. You know. If not, talk to GMs and they'll let you know. A lot of guys make bad decisions and it hurts them.
Nate R. (San Fran)
If you could play with 1 person in the NBA right now, who would you choose?
Jared Dudley (5:17 PM)
I would love to have Dwight Howard on my team, for defensive purposes. He makes everyone's job easier, rebounding and blocking shots. I've been fortunate to play with Steve, an excellent point guard.
