John Pez (1:01 PM)
OK, we're at the quarter pole. Lions are 4-0, Eagles are 1-3. Who would have thunk it. Let's hear from you.
Matt [via mobile]
I know its only Week 5, but Super Bowl picks?
John Pez (1:03 PM)
Wow, Matt gets this started with Super Bowl XLVI picks in Indianapolis. Got to go with the Pack, how can you not (sorry Lions fans), and I'll go with the Ravens from the AFC.
Florida [via mobile]
My new England is doing well. There defense looks average with a strong offense . They need better distribution before welker gets hurt though.
John Pez (1:07 PM)
Yeh, this guy Welker follows a 16-catch, 217-yard game with a 9-catch, 158-yard day. I understand the concern. The distribution now seems to be confined to Welker, the tight end Gronkowski and the backs with few targets for Branch and Ocho. Last week vs. the Raiders was the first time the Pats allowed fewer than 20 points in a game, yet they yielded more than 500 yards.
travis [via mobile]
id say pack and the pats at the moment
John Pez (1:08 PM)
Travis weighs in with his prediction. The league would love a Rodgers vs. Brady showdown. Too bad it's in Peyton's house.
skinny LI NY [via mobile]
what about those J-E-T-S?
John Pez (1:11 PM)
They appear to be on the brink of completing an 0-3 road trip through Oakland, Baltimore and New England. I tell you right now Santonio Holmes will be screaming something else to offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer if this continues. They need Pro Bowl center Nick Mangold back for that Pats game with Vince Wilfork on the horizon Sunday.
Megatron [via mobile]
Do you see the NFC South maybe sending 2 teams to the playoffs, or will the Packers and Lions take those spots?
John Pez (1:16 PM)
Megatron, the Packers will make the playoffs. That's a given, unless Rodgers is injured. So two wild-card spots will be a battle among Lions, Saints, Bucs, Falcons (whichever 1 of the previous 3 does not win the division), Giants, Redskins, Eagles, Cowboys (whichever 1 of the previous 4 does not win the division). Love that Redskins defense, but they're not good enough offensively. Wild cards, I'll go with the Falcons and the Eagles (1-3).
Levar (Chester,SC) [via mobile]
I'm a big Dallas fan. Who's to blame for the Cowboys collapse on Sunday?
John Pez (1:20 PM)
The blame for this was normally reserved for Wade Phillips last season after Tony Romo was injured. Now it all falls on Romo. Yet, Jason Garrett has to be accountable for play calls that resulted in interception returns for TDs after the Cowboys built a 27-3 lead. Collapse was the buzz word in Week 4 (Bills blew a 14-point lead to Bengals, Eagles squander 20-point lead to Niners, Cowboys fritter 24-point lead to Lions, Cards lost a late 10-point lead to Giants). Amazing how the tide turns in these games and the defensive coordinators have no answers. On that note, there is a lot of heat on Eagles DC Juan Castillo.
Roy ( Rocky mt, va) [via mobile]
Will eagles make it 2 the playoffs
John Pez (1:24 PM)
Roy picks up on the Castillo comment with this question. Next 2 games at Buffalo and at Washington followed by a bye. It doesn't help that DE Trent Cole will likely miss these 2 games. Despite the defensive deficiencies, namely at the linebacker position, I still think they will make the playoffs.
craig ny [via mobile]
Long time jets fan.. They always come up with a win on the road following a tough performance. I have a feeling they win this one at pats. Then give it right back and give the dolphins their first win. Life as a jets fan...
John Pez (1:28 PM)
Craig, this is certainly a familiar litany of Jets fans. You know Belichick and Brady went to school on that game film from last year's playoff loss to the Jets. The key in this game will be Revis being used to shadow Welker. But how are the Jets going to handle the tight ends, especially if Aaron Hernandez returns to complement Gronkowski.

John Pez (1:30 PM)
What about them. Great schedule so far for the Chargers feasting on the likes of Vikings, Dolphins and Chiefs (1 combined win). Will battle with Raiders for division title. But I will credit them for finally getting off to a good start under Norv Turner.
dave (detroit) [via mobile]
So u don't think lions go 6-6 rest of way and make playoffs? They got 7 games left at home. Eagles got a tough schedule left and only have 1 win? That's too much respect for the dream team!
John Pez (1:36 PM)
Yeh, the Lions are home for their next 3 games (Bears, 49ers, Falcons)so they can obviously take complete control. As far as the dream team tag, that was coined by a backup (or is he a third-string) QB who doesn't play so how can anyone take that tag seriously. This in no way compares to LeBron saying "not 4, not 5, not 6, not 7" comment.
Guest [via mobile]
Can Freeman keep up these 4th-Quarter comebacks?
John Pez (1:38 PM)
Josh "4th Quarter" Freeman is something else. If his defense can play as well as they did in the Falcons game, then Freeman can continue to summon 4th quarter magic. But the Bucs sure didn't look like a playoff team on Monday night against a winless Colts team.
craig ny [via mobile]
Espn before discussed who was more important to their team welker or megatron. I think if lions didn't have calvin they would not be 4 and 0. What's your opinion?
John Pez (1:41 PM)
Let's see without Megatron, the Lions would probably be 1-3 with losses to Bucs, Vikings and Cowboys. Without Welker, the Pats would probably be 2-2 instead of 3-1.
b richmond va [via mobile]
will cowboys make the playoffs
John Pez (1:42 PM)
No. But they could win 9 games.
Justin DE [via mobile]
I know its only week 5, but what names may appear on the trading block in the next few weeks?
John Pez (1:51 PM)
Justin, this is a tough one. All I can use as a guide is a past instance in which the Eagles made a deal for linebacker Will Witherspoon (traded Brandon Gibson to Rams). So I'm sure management realizes a linebacker is needed. Seahawks appear willing to deal linebacker Aaron Curry (4th overall pick in 2009 draft). Bengals may be in the market for a running back in light of Cedric Benson's imminent suspension.
John Pez (1:55 PM)
OK, game predictions for Week 5 seems to be a hot topic so let's go with three. Eagles snap their 3-game losing streak and win in Buffalo. 49ers follow up their win in Philly with a home win over the Buccaneers. Packers win at the Georgia Dome again, although not as easily as they did in last year's playoff game.

Game of the week?
John Pez (2:02 PM)
Week 5 Game of the Week has to be Kolb vs. McNabb, Cards at Vikings. Just kidding, of course. The playoff rematches - Packers at Falcons and Jets at Patriots - look to be the premier games.
John Pez (2:04 PM)
Adding to the predictions, Blaine Gabbert gets his first win, Jags over the Bengals (but how about that Andy Dalton). Cam comes close to knocking off Brees and the Saints, but falls a field goal shy.
John Pez (2:08 PM)
More than a few questions about the upset pick of the week. Raiders win in Houston with Andre Johnson sidelined. The Broncos also capable of upsetting the Chargers (who need Antonio Gates to return).
John Pez (2:17 PM)
Questions on Quarter Pole MVPs - NFC is tie between Aaron Rodgers and Calvin Johnson. AFC is a tie between Tom Brady and Matt Hasselbeck. Rookie of the Year in AFC is tie between Von Miller and Andy Dalton. NFC is Cam Newton. Breakout player in NFC is Giants DE Jason Pierre Paul. AFC choice is Mike Wallace, although we all saw that coming.
steve tb [via mobile]
I think the bucs finally figured it out. Hand the ball of to blount over and over and the defense will get worn down. Guy is a monster.
John Pez (2:19 PM)
Steve, especially the Colts defense. Any big back will wear that run defense down. Raheem Morris seems to get a nice timeshare in that backfield with Graham and Blount.
John Pez (2:20 PM)
By the way, Troy Aikman believes Devin Hester merits strong Hall of Fame consideration for his impact on special teams. Real good point.
John Pez (2:22 PM)
Another popular question is first coach to be fired. Dolphins owner Steve Ross gave Tony Sparano a vote of confidence (uh-oh). How about Jack Del Rio, the only coach to survive 9 years and not win a division title. Even Marvin Lewis has 2 division titles.
John Pez (2:24 PM)
OK, one more question with the NFL at the quarter pole on this Tuesdays with Mobile Chat. Thanks for your questions
john hartshorne [via mobile]
can the cowboys make it to the playoffs and win the divison title
John Pez (2:28 PM)
Figures it's a Cowboys question. Well this team has already experienced 10 games of drama compacted in 4 (dramatic loss to Jets, dramatic win vs. Niners, dramatin win vs. Redskins, dramatic loss vs. Lions). They play at New England after the bye. No, I don't think the Cowboys win the division or make the playoffs. But hey, Adrian Beltre just homered for Texas so who knows, the Rangers may be headed to another trip to the World Series. Mavs, Rangers, Cowboys need to catch up to these powerhouses. I never thought I would say that.
