Larry is here!

What do you think are your chances from overcoming more than 5 rounds back and winning the championship with Allen Johnson on your side?
Larry Dixon (1:59 PM)
As it stands right now, we're 44 points out of first, which is a little more than 2 rounds of racing. So, I think going into Pomona, qualifying and bonus points will be important for us. If we can get it below 44 points going into first round, that will be a big first step.
Martha Ford (Aurora, Illinois)
Larry, how hard is the mental game of being in the moment, focusing one round at a time versus the future, the media, the fans, the sponsors, THE CHAMPIONSHIP,.....
Larry Dixon (2:00 PM)
For me, my old crew chief Dick had a lot to do with it, it's about putting yourself in the moment. So when you're at the end of the season and the title's on the line, it's no different than the 2nd or 3rd time of the year. This race is no different for me.
do you think you can still win the championship.
Larry Dixon (2:01 PM)
Absolutely. Two races ago, we made up almost 90 points in one day. Only 44 back could be a walk in the park from that stand point. We just do our best and hope it's enough.
Rachel (Rancho Cucamonga, CA)
How big is it for the program to have both Al-Anabi dragsters in contention for the world championship at the final race of the season?
Larry Dixon (2:02 PM)
I would imagine that's what everyone had planned. If you have two strong running cars, a perfect world would have them running 1-2. That's our goal and we're close to doing that.
Larry Dixon (2:02 PM)
And it still is attainable.
Bill Brown (Palmdale,Ca)
Will there be any team orders if it comes down to you and Del ?
Larry Dixon (2:02 PM)
There hasn't been to this point, so I don't know why there would be now. Both cars are trying to win a championship. Coming down to the last race, I don't think anybody will have to worry about that.
Traci (Houston, TX)
Larry, you are without a doubt one of the greatest racers in history, and when you teamed up with Alan Johnson, it was possibly the best move ever made in the NHRA! What's it like working with him? Have you learned a lot under his direction? On a side note, do you miss all the free Miller Lite?!
Larry Dixon (2:03 PM)
I feel very honored to work and race for Alan Johnson. I've been fortunate that I've been around a lot of great teams and crew chiefs. Alan is at the top of the stats list. It's been great and hopefully this is just the beginning of a long run.
Dale (Dallas/Fort Worth area)
This year in the countdown there is more movement up and down in the top 3-4 points positions putting more pressure on the drivers than the cars themselves. With so much on the line, one race remaining, one mistake it is over, how nervous are you really?
Larry Dixon (2:05 PM)
The top 4, really the top 5, cars all season long have been a few thousandths of a second have separated wins and losses. It does put pressure on you when you're running your best to be one of those cars. With that being said, we got to this position in the points by doing the things that we've done. You don't put any more pressure on yourself now. You just go out there and fire your best shot and hope it's enough.
Qualifying is always important, but never moreso than it will be next weekend (right???). Do you have a smart guy on your team who'll be updating you after every round of qualifying, telling you what you need to do to cut your deficit from 44 points to under 40 points (two rounds).
Larry Dixon (2:06 PM)
We won't have any spotters, so to speak telling us that. We just know how important the bonus points and qualifying position will be this weekend. It's a matter of hopefully shining the best that you can on this given weekend and really see where you stackup. The bonus points will be very important and we'll do our best to get every single one of them.

Hey Larry do you think NHRA should go back to the 1320 feet or stay at 1000 feet. also how do you like racing at Route 66 do u think its a good track or great track..Thanks James..
Larry Dixon (2:08 PM)
I've been racing long enough, I probably favor racing quarter mile versus 1,000 feet. With all of the safety devices that have been implemented on the cars and all of the updates the tracks have done, I would like to see us go back to racing quarter mile. When NASCAR decided the Cup cars were going too fast and Daytona and Talladega, they didn't shorten the tracks, they adjusted the car packages. I would like them to do the same.
Mike (ANDOVER NY)
Larry, What do you do during the week when you are not with the team racing. Also how do the top fuel drivers get paid, by the week, year, the race? Thanks for your reply,Mike
Larry Dixon (2:09 PM)
I think on weekends away from the race track, my responsibilities fall back on my family. I play catch up on the time I lost with my bride and kids. When the team travels back to Indiana between races, our race shop is here and I will go in and hang out and check in with the guys. But most of the work is done at the track on my end.
Larry Dixon (2:10 PM)
I appreciate everybody that wrote in. It's great to hear that there are Larry Dixon fans out there. We're going to do everything we can to make you proud. Thank you.
