Sunday Night Football Pregame Chat With D'Arcy Maine
D'Arcy Maine (7:13 PM)
Greetings from East Rutherford! Hope you're having a nice weekend and are settled in for one more game today. Figure we'll chat here for about an hour and then I'll switch over to a blog during the game. So send in your questions, observations, reality show comparisons and we'll get this thing going. Expecting some top-notch Eagles jokes after today's debacle.

JOHN SKELTON FOR MVP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CZ (RI) [via mobile]
You're the only person I know smart enough to have gotten into Fordham. Congrats on your fellow alumni John Skelton.
D'Arcy Maine (7:16 PM)
Thank you! We Fordahm alums rarely get to celebrate athletic achievement (I think Vince Lombardi may have been responsible for the last one. We try and forget about Smush Parker...) so we're probably more excited than Cardinals fans right now. He didn't have a great performance but he found a way to win and now improves to an actually impressive 4-2 record as a starter. Which is significantly more impressive than Kevin Kolb's record. But I digress. Thanks for letting me have my moment.

What happened to the Bills?
D'Arcy Maine (7:20 PM)
Looks like the clock struck midnight for the Bills and instead of a glass slipper, they're just stuck with a Ryan Fitzpatrick's ugly beard. It was a fun ride while it lasted. Today's loss was just embarassing. I think they've succesfully gotten themselves out of the laughingstock category of the league (a spot the Redskins seem to have locked down at least for another year or so) and into the 'very average' category. Could be worse but has to be disheartening for Bills fans after such a strong start.

I've been waiting to hear your take on the David Nelson TD all day. Thoughts??
D'Arcy Maine (7:22 PM)
For those who didn't see this, after scoring the Bills' lone TD of the day, David Nelson gave the ball to his girlfriend. A Cowboys cheerleader. So even though his team lost, he still showed the crowd he's very much a winner. I'm usually far too bitter to ever acknowledge an adorable romantic act but I definitely dropped an audible 'awwwww' from the press box here in East Rutherford. Thus killing all credibility I probably never had with the reporters around me.
Craig Ms [via mobile]
As a cowboys fan I couldn't be happier with today's performance. Do u think they will be able to pull off a sweep to end the season and go far into the playoffs?
D'Arcy Maine (7:25 PM)
I don't think there's any way the Cowboys sweep the rest of their schedule, Craig. Although I like your optimism. They still have to face the Giants twice and I see little chance they can beat them in both matchups. However the rest of their schedule is pretty manageable (Redskins, Dolphins, Cardinals, Bucs and Eagles) so I definitely think they'll make a strong push for the NFC East title. They're a team on the rise and seemingly starting to peak at the right time.
Carl (Atlanta) [via mobile]
will the eagles fire andy reid?
D'Arcy Maine (7:27 PM)
I don't think they do at this point, Carl. Obviously the team has so much talent and has sorely lived down to what they're capable of but after everything Reid has done for the team over the years, I don't see the team firing him midseason. That said, if this team fails to make the playoffs (which is a fairly safe bet at this point), I could see the Eagles making some changes in the offseason. Pretty astounding when you think about all their preseason hype and 'dream team' moniker. LeBron James must be grateful.

what did you think of tebow today?
D'Arcy Maine (7:30 PM)
A Tim Tebow question? I'm shocked. Didn't know people like talking about that guy. I kid, I kid. On the plus side, the Broncos got the W today. On the not-so-plus side, Tebow completed a grand total of TWO passes. Two. For a whole 69 yards. Denver is 3-1 with Tebow at the helm but his play has definitely left something to be desired. But, at the end of the day, the Broncos are in the AFC West and thus have a great chance of getting routed in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
D'Arcy Maine (7:32 PM)
There is currently a heated debate in the press box on In 'N Out Burger vs. Five Guys. I think I just witnessed the end of a friendship over this topic.
David, Wisconsin [via mobile]
Do the Bears end up edging out Detroit for a wild card spot in the playoffs?
D'Arcy Maine (7:35 PM)
If this disaster currently on my television screen is any indication than yes. For sure, David. Once this massacre is over, they'll be tied at 6-3. Chicago looks to finally be coming together and Detroit seem to be falling apart somewhat. I have a feeling the last few weeks of the regular season are going to be very entertaining.
Rookie [via mobile]
What do you think are the chances the Vikings pull off the upset over the Pack tomorrow night?
D'Arcy Maine (7:38 PM)
Not good, Rookie. Not good. So much so that I kind of want to classify this question as 'adorable'. There's a better chance of Ochocinco scoring a TD tonight.
Ryan (Chicago) [via mobile]
The Bears are who we thought they were! Please tell the Jets D to focus on stopping Gronk. Thanks D'Arcy!
D'Arcy Maine (7:38 PM)
I have Gronkowski on my fantasy team. Therefore I can't pass on that message. Sorry.
Drew (San Antonio, TX) [via mobile]
Big fan of your twitter power rankings. look forward to them every week. How happy are you for Jay Cutler and Kristin Cavallari to be reunited?
D'Arcy Maine (7:40 PM)
Thanks Drew. Appreciate that. I couldn't be happier that America's least-liked couple is back together. It makes my job a lot of easier. Have to wonder though if his improved personal life is part of the reason for his improved play as of late. I'm actually being serious.
GREG [via mobile]
how about those jags?
Chuck (Jacksonville) [via mobile]
How long will it take for the Jags to be good enough for D'Arcy Maine to come down to the state with more New Yorker's than the Empire state itself?
D'Arcy Maine (7:45 PM)
Wow. Two Jags questions. I had no idea they had that many fans. Literally. I kid, I kid. Chuck, I would love to come to Jacksonville. November in the Northeast just doesn't work for me. Unfortunately a 3-6 record doesn't help support that cause. Maybe I'll make a pitch for the Chargers game on the 5th. Feel free to reach out to my boss and help my case.
Chris Turk [via mobile]
Who is your pick to win the AFC west and the AFC east?
D'Arcy Maine (7:48 PM)
I think throwing darts at a dart board would be the best way to make an AFC West prediction, Chris. It certainly is an even division. Although in this case that's not really a compliment. I think the Raiders pull it out but again, you just don't know with this one. As for the AFC East, I think the Jets will best the Pats by one win and take the title.
gilbey nyc [via mobile]
Five guys is the winner I'm my book. What are the serving in the press box tonight.
D'Arcy Maine (7:50 PM)
I'm more of an In N' Out girl but I never turn down a burger. Solid spread in the press box this evening. Penne pasta with marinara and meatball. No s. Just one meatball. But very tasty.
j jonas [via mobile]
Can the steelers make it to superbowl
D'Arcy Maine (7:54 PM)
Is this Joe Jonas from the Jonas Brothers? Not that I knew what the J stood for offhand or anything... I don't see the Steelers making it to Indy. They've just been too inconsistent for me to think they could put together a straight run in the postseason. On their best nights, they're more than capable but I'm just not seeing it.

Predictions? Jets 27 Pats 17
will j charlotte nc [via mobile]
Simple ? Who do you thnk will wins tonights game?
D'Arcy Maine (7:56 PM)
Simple question. Notso simple answer, Will. Vegas has the Jets as a 3-point favorite. The way the Pats have been playing, that sounds about right. Although hard to imagine they would really let thremselves drop three in a row. Especially not at the hands of their arch-rival. I keep going back and forth but I think NE takes this one, 28-24.
Toby (Zurich, Switzerland) [via mobile]
Hey D'Arcy! Looking forward to your blog. What did you think of the Falcons decision to go for it on 4th down from their own 30 in OT?
D'Arcy Maine (8:00 PM)
Thanks Toby! There's a fine line between bold, aggressive decisions and stupidity. And that decision falls firmly on the stupidity side. I just don't understand it. It's going to be a long week for Mike Smith and the Falcons. Have to hope that call doesn't cut his squad a playoff spot.
donald, broad street [via mobile]
will u be at chickie and petes tomorrow night for the best sports bar event?
D'Arcy Maine (8:04 PM)
Yup! Open invite to anyone in the Philly area, I'll be at Chickie's and Pete's tomorrow night with Eric Allen and some of my Mobile brethren to celebrate the bar's win in our Best Sports Bar in North America. I'll be the girl chowing down on crabfries. Come by if you're around!
D'Arcy Maine (8:05 PM)
That does it for me, gang. I've got to start the live blog for tonight's game. Hope you'll join me there as well. Still plenty of jokes to be made at the Eagles expense. Thanks for your questions and enjoy the game!
