Carter Strickland (3:00 PM)
OK, thanks for taking part in the first and last ever Texas - A&M chat. With that here we go with the questions.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
What Bowl Game will Texas Play in this season?
Carter Strickland (3:02 PM)
Say hello to Houston. If Texas does not win another game and it does not look like they will, then Houston will take the 6-6 Longhorns. Now if somehow Texas can get to seven wins by beating Texas A&M or Baylor it might make them more attractive to the Holiday Bowl or whatever it is called now.The issue for an out-of-state bowl is that Texas is having a down year, so will fans travel. Most likely they will because Texas didn't go to a bowl game last year. And Texas is seen as a team on the rise. Plus there are a ton of Texas fans out there.
B Wilson (Dallas)
Will Gray play Thursday?
Carter Strickland (3:04 PM)
I highly doubt that he will. Fractures are just not something that are typically ''day-to-day' like Sherman said. And the injury is on his shoulder. Running backs use their shoulders to protect the ball and grind for more yards. There is really no way to pad that up and make it ok to play.So with Gray and Michael out, Texas A&M is losing 1,900 plus rushing yards.
Jimmy K (Toronto)
Carter, what is your sense of Dorial G-B's visit last weekend? Does he have the mindset that even with that atrocious QB play that he can come in a make a difference? Would love to have him, Gray, Jones, & Johnson lined up with Brewer.
Carter Strickland (3:07 PM)
Everything had to go right for Texas to get a shot at DGB. Everything went wrong. The offense looked terrible and if you are sitting there as a wide receiver looking at those two quarterbacks it is doubtful you want to come to Texas. Neither has the ability to get the ball downfield. And that is what DGB is - a downfield threat. Now the crowd was very good. The defense was outstanding. But when DGB goes to Arkansas games he sees the ball being throw 40 times, a fast-paced offense, tons of points and a team with one loss. plus it is closer to home. Just not seeing him coming to Texas right now.
After the debacle of a season last year, should Texas just be greatful this Thanksgiving to be bowl eligible?
Carter Strickland (3:09 PM)
No doubt. Texas was fortunate to play BYU, UCLA and ISU early because all three are better teams now and Texas is not as good. The one thing Texas needs to celebrate is the defense. It is very good and could be very good for several years. They will lose Randall, Acho and Robinson and maybe even Vaccaro. But they can reload at d tackle, especially if they get Brandon Moore. I also like Edmond and Cobbs a ton at lineabcker. Plus Hicks is going to be great with more playing time.
Bryan Harsin (Austin)
Hey Carter, think putting in Case will get us a win on turkey day?
Carter Strickland (3:12 PM)
That is a stretch. But I do think he gives Texas a better chance to win. Ash was just not producing. He had gone 50-plus drives without producing a touchdown pass. Plus he has eight picks. That just can't continue. Really the coaches should have left McCoy in the game at Missouri and then started him against KSU. They had to know Ash wasn't getting it done. Now they have thrown Case in a very difficult situation with only a few days to prepare.
Think Texas has a legitimate shot at DGB/Landon Collins?
Carter Strickland (3:13 PM)
Collins yes because of the way the defense is playing. Although it is going to be tough to get him away from LSU. DGB I highly doubt because of the way the offense is playing and the current QBs.
Josh Carter (Murphy Texas)
What is your prediction for the game?
Carter Strickland (3:15 PM)
I think the Aggies will win this one. But i would not go so far as to put money on it. I say that simply because the Texas defense is so good. And the Ags are without their top two running backs. Also the Ags have a terrible pass defense. But so too did Missouri and Kansas State and Texas could not generate any type of passing game against them.
Steve (Ft. Worth)
any word on Shipley's availability for Thursday night?
Carter Strickland (3:15 PM)
Highly doubtful. He has not been running and will be a guy who may play in the bowl game. Just don't count on him for the regular season.
John D. (San Antonio)
With Texas/Texas tech being the new #1 rivalry in the state, any chance this game moves to thanksgiving?
Carter Strickland (3:17 PM)
Tech will never really be a rival of Texas until there is more consistency between the two teams. Now Tech did pull off the huge upset and had another in the 200os. But there is not a history of these games going back and forth. In order to be a great rival each team has to be the near equal of the other. Texas Tech is not the equal of Texas. Also there are not recruiting wars between those two teams. That is when a rivalry really heats up, when both schools are going after the same guys.
Nick B. (Chicago)
Has Texas missed on both Ash and McCoy or are they so young more PT and another offseason will help. Do you see either leading Texas to a BCS game next year?
Carter Strickland (3:23 PM)
Right now the jury is coming back with the verdict that Texas missed. Maybe something happens in the next two games to change my mind, but that will be hard to do. So really Texas has missed on four straight quarterbacks. Tough to win when you do that.
Carter Strickland (3:26 PM)
OK that's it for today. We did have a glitch in the system. Someone asked about Brown and the rumor going around that he is leaving. Talked to Brown yesterday and he said he has been around for 14 years and not leaving anytime soon.
