Melissa Jacobs (1:02 PM)
Welcome and greetings from sunny Arizona! Very much looking forward to tomorrow's slate of games, and like many of you, I'm cramming to put my best fantasy lineups forward. Let's get to your questions...
Derrick (Garden City)
Hi Melissa, who do you like ROS in a PPR: Denarius, Santana Moss, or Dwayne Bowe?
Melissa Jacobs (1:04 PM)
Hi Derrick,Leaning toward Bowe, just because he was targeted so much last week (9 times, I believe). Obviously a tougher opponent in Pittsburgh but I still think he's productive.
Mike Ho (Hong Kong)
Hi Melissa, who would you rather have to backup Stafford: Andy Dalton or Shaun Hill?
Melissa Jacobs (1:06 PM)
Dalton. Even with all those picks last week he still put up great fantasy numbers against a tough Ravens pass d. Hoping A.J. Green's return gives him the whole groove back.
Jeffrey (Nc)
I have daniel Thomas on my bench ....would you drop him to pickup Kevin Smith.....Thanks ....Oh yeah....Happy Thanks giving
Melissa Jacobs (1:07 PM)
Hi Jeffrey,Yes, I'd make that move. Smith was awesome last week, albeit against perhaps the worst rushing d I've seen in my lifetime. Sorry Panthers. Tougher test for Smith this week, but he's earned even more carries.
Phoenix (Lanai City)
Hey Melissa, if I own Lesean McCoy should I be looking to handcuff him with Ronnie Brown or should I use the spot to hold another RB like Hardesty or Spiller?
Melissa Jacobs (1:10 PM)
Hi Phoenix,Wow, Lanai City and Hong Kong today - very cool!I think CJ Spiller is your best bet for handcuffing. Not sure if you saw but Fred Jackson is out this week. Spiller should get some looks in the passing game as well, so he's great for PPR leagues.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
When was the last time that the San Francisco 49ers played on Thanksgiving?
Melissa Jacobs (1:11 PM)
Hi Chris - That would be 1972. The 49ers beat the Cowboys 31-10. And no I didn't look that up. :)
Aaron (Oakland)
Drop Early Doucet for Reggie Wayne?
Melissa Jacobs (1:13 PM)
Hi Aaron,I wouldn't. Love Doucet's matchup against the Rams this week. He's been getting decent targets. So sad what the subpar quarterback has done to Reggie Wayne.
Mark (San Jose)
Hi Melissa, J Stewart or McGahee worth a #2 RB spot this week? Also, should owners start picking up S Moss?
Melissa Jacobs (1:16 PM)
Hello Mark,I think Stewart has a chance to have a great all-purpose game against the Colts so I'd be happy with him at RB2.if you have the slot for Moss, fine, but I don't want any part of the Redskins passing game at this point. That's a wait and see situation.
Melissa Jacobs (1:18 PM)
One programming note...I am co-hosting a FantasyFootball Forum for Women/MNF game Watch with Stephania Bell this Monday 11/28 in NYC. Event details are listed on espnW. If you know any ladies that play fantasy and live in NYC, we'd love for them to join us!Moving on...
Igor (NYC)
Hi Melissa, I can't decide who to start in ppr league. I am already starting Welker and Steven Jackson. Need to pick 3 more for rb, rb/wr and wr from the following: A.J. Green, A. Brown, Harvin, T. Smith, MJD, Sproles.
Melissa Jacobs (1:20 PM)
Hi Igor,Wow, some great choices there. For your WR, I'd take Brown. For RB/WR Harvin (looks like he'll be the perfect flex in AP's absence) and MJD as your RB (hard to argue with scores in last three games)
Cyrus (Arizona)
I picked up Kevin Smith on waivers this week! Should I start him over Shonn Greene?
Melissa Jacobs (1:21 PM)
Hi Cyrus,I would start Smith again. Greene is obviously coming off injury and we're not sure how he'll split carries with Joe McKnight. Smith will likely see more carries.
Bauer (D.C.)
Any chance we don't get a Packers-Steelers rematch in the Super Bowl? They should just cancel the rest of the season and get on with it.
Melissa Jacobs (1:25 PM)
Hey Bauer,Why of course. That;s why they play the games. I'd like to think the Niners have the kind of defense that can give the Pack some trouble (ok, maybe I'm crazy). The Bears were looking great before Cutler's thumb. On the AFC side, I do feel like the Steelers are almost a lock. They're just too complete of a team. Maybe the Ravens. We'll see what happens to the Texans. So sad.
Kurt (Seattle)
Why no love for my Seahawks this year? They're actually a decent team, if you take away our quarterback team. Also, did you see that Wall Street Journal article on their defense? Any chance other teams follow that design? Pretty interesting stuff.
Melissa Jacobs (1:26 PM)
Hi Kurt,I heard about that article but haven't had a chance to read it. There is love for Seattle...well at least the defense. A very impressive unit. In fact one that single-handedly foiled the Niners plans to clinch by Thanksgiving.
Stebani (Alexandria)
Laurent Robinson or Victor Cruz this week?
Melissa Jacobs (1:29 PM)
Hi Stebani,i love Cruz this week. The Saints are definitely susceptible to the big play and Cruz has been a consistent target. Robinson owners are pretty much screwed if he doesn't create space in the end zone.
kat (Oklahoma State Univ.)
Wishing you an early Happy Thanksgiving, Melissa! I'd be thankful for your help --- start which 2 wide receivers this weekend: Torrey Smith, Damien Williams, Vincent Brown, Earl Bennett? Start Donald Brown or Ben Tate at the flex? Your opinion of Jacob Tamme's fantasy productivity/upside for this weekend? Thanks again.
Melissa Jacobs (1:33 PM)
Hi Kat,I'm thankful I can provide you help! I'd start Smith and Williams. I'd opt for Brown at the flex - as I mentioned earlier the Panthers a have a worse run defense than most pee wee leagues. Tamme's not a bad play but I feel like the Colts will be able to run all over the Panthers. On the other hand the Panthers should light it up against eh Colts, therefore leaving the Colts to play catchup and pass a lot to a guy like Tamme
Gloria (Chandler)
Hi Melissa, loved your column on battling your family for tv time on Thanksgiving. But what happens if the turkey comes out late? Do you leave the table?
Melissa Jacobs (1:35 PM)
Hi Gloria,So glad you read it. I'm a vegetarian so don't care about turkey. But if the tofuturkey comes out late it will be brought with me on a paper plate straight to the television. How are you guys handling dinner time and football?
Kyle (Waiver Island)
Please not the Chiefs...please not the Chiefs...please not the Chiefs
Melissa Jacobs (1:35 PM)
Ha ha ha.
Peyton (Indy)
Any chance the Colts win a game this year? Ok, how about two?
Melissa Jacobs (1:37 PM)
I don't know Peyton. Chances are looking slim. They'd need a lot of luck for that to happen, if you know what I mean :)
Melissa Jacobs (1:37 PM)
BTW, I don't know if these non-fantasy questions are coming from the same person but I'm finding them quite entertaining. Hope you are too,
Andy Dalton (Gingerville)
I think I have a chance to go down as the best redhead to ever play the game. Thoughts?
Melissa Jacobs (1:39 PM)
Ha. I think you do, but I'm racking my brain to think of your competition. Anyone want to help?
James (Fresno)
Thoughts on Vernon Davis moving forward?
Melissa Jacobs (1:42 PM)
Hi James,Like the Niners passing game, Davis has momentum. Touchdowns in each of the last two games. A must start a tight end these days.
Melissa Jacobs (3:03 PM)
Hi everyone and welcome. If you're wondering why there is already a long transcript, that would be because I did a bonus chat a couple of hours ago. I'm that thankful for fantasy! Actually I'm traveling and screwed up the time change. Anyhow, let's get to your questions for this scheduled chat.
Adam (WV)
Grab Gerhart off WW?
Melissa Jacobs (3:05 PM)
Hi Adam,If you have a lot of room, sure. But he didn't look very able last week. I'm much higher on Percy Harvin - it seems like his projected carries as a RB keeps going up with the week.
Aaron (Oakland)
Hey- I need 2 from Mike Turner, DeMarco Murray, Jackie Battle, and Brandon Jacobs.
Melissa Jacobs (3:06 PM)
Hi Aaron,I like the Burner and Murray. Murray owners were pleasantly surprised to see his production remain solid with the return of Felix Jones.
Andy (Philadelphia)
Any chance the Eagles can still make the playoffs? Their D looked pretty good Sunday night.
Melissa Jacobs (3:07 PM)
Hi Andy,There are some tough games ahead - the Pats, Jets, Cowboys. If this is Andy Reid, I'd say you don't make the playoffs and your job is in jeopardy.
J.B. (PA)
Sonny Jurgensen was a pretty good ginger.
Melissa Jacobs (3:08 PM)
Thanks for that, J.B.! He's responding to my earlier question of NFL players in history with red hair to rival Andy Dalton.
Adam (WV)
Carson Palmer, Tim Tebow, or Andy Dalton?
Melissa Jacobs (3:09 PM)
Tebow Time! The Chargers are sputtering across the board. I think Tebow has a great fantasy day.
Jamie (L.A.)
Any chance the Chargers suck themselves right out of San Diego this year? I want my L.A. team, so I can pretend to be a fan but then not go to the games.
Melissa Jacobs (3:11 PM)
Just become a Niners fan, they're close enough. But good progress on the LA front so there is hope.
J.B. (PA)
MJ: Hated the Packers and Jags match ups this week so I grabbed the Rams (dropped Jax). Good sleeper start this week?
Melissa Jacobs (3:13 PM)
Yeah, I love that move J.B. Arizona may score some points but I'm guessing you'll see some turnovers.
John (SC)
what are the chances of aj green starting on sunday?
Melissa Jacobs (3:14 PM)
I think we need to see what happens in this week's practices. I know the Bengals are taking a very wait-and-see approach with him. I'd have other plans as a Green owner
Jon (Twitter)
friend asked, drop Fitz for Orton? What do you think?
Melissa Jacobs (3:17 PM)
Hi Jon,I would wait on that. If he does indeed go to Chicago he's a decent grab...but he still doesn't have the weapons Fitz does.
John (SC)
need 1, fred davis, greg olsen, jermaine gresham
Melissa Jacobs (3:18 PM)
I like Olsen here. Just a lot more scoring opportunities against the Colts. The other TEs you mentioned have much less favorable matchups.
J.B. (PA)
MJ: The beauty of having Spiller is he can be slotted in as either RB, WR or FLEX in ESPN leagues. I'm thinking about using him over Santonio Holmes this week. Reasonable move?
Melissa Jacobs (3:19 PM)
Yeah, I think it is. Holmes is pretty inconsistent and Spiller will definitely be an all-purpose guy. Great play in PPR leagues.
Hannah (Santa Cruz)
Who are your picks tomorrow?
Melissa Jacobs (3:21 PM)
Hi Hannah, Packers (albeit close), Dolphins upset Cowboys, and NinersWho are yours?
Cody (Long Island)
What should I do about David Nelson? Is he a decent play?
Melissa Jacobs (3:23 PM)
Nelson is nursing an ankle injury and illness. He should see a lot more looks with Stevie Johnson out but until he goes over 50 yards ago, I wouldn't play him.
Bill (New York)
Hi Melissa, love your work. I'm a lock to make my fantasy playoffs, so now I'm thinking of pickups/drops to make to win the Super Bowl. Playoffs are Weeks 14-16. Any advice?
Melissa Jacobs (3:24 PM)
Hi Bill,If you're a lock to make your playoffs you probably don't have to do much -- guessing you have guys who transcend matchups. But you can waiver block - pick up guys like Kevin Smith, CJ Spiller. Don't let your opponents get them.
Amanda (Phoenix)
I had Jay Cutler. Who's a good replacement?
Melissa Jacobs (3:26 PM)
Jake Locker, Carson Palmer (if available) and maybe look at that Kyle Orton guy.
Joe (WI)
HELP!!!! Lost AP and FJax!!!! Pick 1 rb and 1 flex: Greene, McKnight, McGahee, K Smith, Boldin, A Brown, L Robinson (already starting Dez & Murray)
Melissa Jacobs (3:29 PM)
Hi Joe,Wow, good options. I like Smith (seems like his carries are only going up), and Antonio Brown at the flex (like his matchup). But like Boldin and McKnight as well.
Melinda (Concord)
Better TE play this week...Heath Milller or Jacob Tamme?
Melissa Jacobs (3:30 PM)
Hi Melinda,Miller had a great outing vs. KC their last go around. He had been relatively productive before the bye week. So Miller it is!
Jacob (Cleveland)
Do you think the Colts will get Andrew Luck?
Melissa Jacobs (3:34 PM)
I do Jacob. I don't see who the Colts beat the ROS. Google their schedule. And I don't think they miss out on Luck. Maybe he's behind Peyton one year and Manning can have his Colts goodbye tour before he's traded to another team and burns them.
Serena (Takoma)
Is Earl Bennett still a viable start with Cutler out?
Melissa Jacobs (3:36 PM)
Hi Serena,I don't think he is. Even if the Bears get Orton, his favorite targets would still have to be determined. Cutler was finding Bennett a lot as a second and third option.
John (Thankful that Work Week is Almost Over)
Melissa, Better upside ROS: Kevin Boss or Jacob Tamme?
Melissa Jacobs (3:38 PM)
I'm with you, John. I think Tamme has better ROS upside. He's a bigger part of an offense that will likely be down and throwing in the second half of every remaining game.
Melissa Jacobs (3:39 PM)
Btw, that remaining schedule for the Colts: Panthers, Patriots, Ravens, Titans, Texans, Jags. They better win this week.
Donna (Detroit)
Is Alex Smith really a fantasy option or will they go back to Frank Gore all the time?
Melissa Jacobs (3:41 PM)
Hi Donna,That's hard to say. Harbaugh really has him doing what is necessary to win, nothing more or less. So he makes for an adequate start against tough run defenses like the Ravens tomorrow. But I don't expect him to put up many 300-yard games.
Steve (Wakeland)
Moss or Bowe?
Melissa Jacobs (3:44 PM)
Looks like Bowe is playing Sunday, so says Mike Shanahan. but I still like Bowe, even with the tough matchup. He was targeted a ton by Palko and I think that trend continues. Keep the Redskins offense away. Far away.
Melissa Jacobs (3:46 PM)
Reminder: As I mentioned earlier, espnW is hosting a Fantasy Football Forum for Women this Monday 11/28 in NYC. Stephania Bell and I are co-hosting. If you are interested or know of anyone in NYC that is interested, please send them to espnW and look for details under fantasy football.
LeAnne (Washington)
Who has the better chance of playing this week, Choice or D Carter?
Melissa Jacobs (3:47 PM)
Hi LeAnne,Choice was cut be the Redskins earlier today. So the answer is easy - Carter.
Sam (DC)
Do you think Mike Shanahan should be fired?
Melissa Jacobs (3:50 PM)
Yes, I do. His Washington regime has been a disaster. From McNabb to Haynesworth to not being able to find a suitable running back (his former specialty). Will he be fired? No way.
LeAnne (Washington)
Oh wow, thanks. Carter or whatever running back the skins use this week?
Melissa Jacobs (3:51 PM)
I know Carter's taken a backseat but the Panthers run defense is just awful. Decent shot he makes the most of his carries, even if they are limited. Good luck!
Melissa Jacobs (3:52 PM)
All right, thanks so much for joining me today. If you have any questions that went unanswered, I'm @thefootballgirl on Twitter. Just a note that I'll be back chatting on my regular day/time next week - Thursdays at 3ET. Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
