Live from Foxboro for Chiefs-Patriots
D'Arcy Maine (7:04 PM)
Greetings from Foxboro! What a game we'll have tonight. Or not. We've got a 16.5-point spread and a quarterback that was cut from a UFL team. Nonetheless, it should provide some entertainment. Let's get to chatting!
D'Arcy Maine (7:05 PM)
Just as an FYI, I'll be doing this chat for the next hour or so and then switching over to a blog for the game. Hope you'll join me there as well. Now onto the chat...

Hi D'Arcy, Any chance the chiefs win and help the jets with their playoff dreams? Thanks Jacob
D'Arcy Maine (7:06 PM)
Not happening, Jacob. Jets fans (and Mark Sanchez) might want to watch college basketball tonight instead.
Terry, AZ [via mobile]
What's the latest update on Matt Cassel?
D'Arcy Maine (7:08 PM)
Have to feel for Matt Cassel, Terry. After a tough start for KC, they were actually back in AFC West contention (not like that means much...). Cassel suffered a 'significant' hand injury in last week's game vs. the Broncos and now might miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery for it. You know he would have loved to be playing in this game tonight against his former team. But Tyler Palko should be good. At least for joke purposes.
Jon, Charlotte [via mobile]
what do you know about tyler palko?
D'Arcy Maine (7:10 PM)
As much as Wikipedia tells me, Jon. I kid, I kid. Sort of. He played for Pitt in college where he finished his career tied for second in school history in career TD passes and second in career passing yardage. But that was kind of a long time ago. Since then, he went undrafted and has played on a number of teams, mostly on the practice squad. He's also played briefly in the CFL and was cut during the 2009 UFL preseason. He has 13 career NFL passes. Ladies and gentlemen... your Chiefs starting QB!

Another week, another great match up. Do the guys at ESPN say "Yuck! Chiefs vs Pats, who should we send to that one? I know, D'arcy!"?
D'Arcy Maine (7:13 PM)
While that sounds like it should be the case, I actually picked this game. Sad but true. It sounded good a month ago when the Chiefs were starting to turn things around and Matt Cassel was, you know, not injured. The Tyler Palko storyline isn't quite as compelling...

How bout dem' Dolphins, huh. any chance tony sporano keeps his jod after the season?
D'Arcy Maine (7:17 PM)
If you had asked me a month ago, Edwin, I would have said no way Tony Sparano would be coaching the Dolphins next season but now I'm not so sure. They've had three big wins in a row (including yesterday's rout of the Bills) and are really showing potential. If they continue to win this season, I think he stay around. Did you know the 'Fins have outscored their opponents 86-20 in the last three games? Not sure where this team was to open the season but they've been very impressive as of late.

How involved do you think Ochocinco will be in tonights game. Pats need a deep threat to give welker some space.
D'Arcy Maine (7:20 PM)
The Patriots have to hope Ocho will get involved one of these weeks. He looked like he was starting to pick up the offense last week (two catches fo 65 yards) although still isn't anywhere near the level he's been at in previous seasons. I would imagine Brady to go first to his usual go-to guys (Welker, Gronkowski, etc.) but if this game gets out of hand, he could start looking more and more for the less-used guys.

How come Mondays don't have the same flex options as Sundays?
D'Arcy Maine (7:22 PM)
I'm sure everyone in programming is wondering that exact same thing today, Adam. I think because a Monday game changes a team's schedule for the week, it can't be changed. The Sunday night flex option doesn't distrupt a team's practice plan for the week and I'm guessing that's the difference.
Jeff (Worcester, MA) [via mobile]
Can you please help settle a bet... does Brady have a chance to break some sort of record tonight? My friend swears he heard that somewhere on the radio. I can't think what it could be so bet him a beer.
D'Arcy Maine (7:24 PM)
Sorry, Jeff. Looks like you owe your friend a beer. Feel free to buy me one too while you're at it. With 295 yards tonight, Brady would break the NFL record for most passing yards in the first 10 games of the season. Kind of a meaningless record but something to watch for nonetheless. Drew Brees currently owns the record (also this season).

Why even watch the MNF game? we all know how the game will be. It will be ugly forget football basketball takes main stage.
D'Arcy Maine (7:26 PM)
As long as you're watching college basketball on the ESPN family of networks, I'm not even going to try and disuade you. Also, if you could provide score updates, I would greatly apreciate it.
D'Arcy Maine (7:27 PM)
...I have a feeling that wasn't how I was supposed to answer that question.
rick boyle from vancouver [via mobile]
Hi Darcy. Do you know if green-ellis playing tonight?
D'Arcy Maine (7:29 PM)
Good question, Rick. The Law Firm is not on the inactive list and I watched him warm up a little while ago. He looked okay to me and didn't have hoards of trainers around him so I would take that as a good sign.
Handsome Rob [via mobile]
Grape or Strawberry Jelly?...The world deserves to know!
D'Arcy Maine (7:30 PM)
No question, Handsome. Can I call you that? It makes me feel very 1950's movie star-esque. Strawberry. Definitely strawberry.

Any advice for a depressed viking fan?
D'Arcy Maine (7:32 PM)
At least you have a Minnesota winter to look forward to! No? Not helping? Um. There's always next year?
dillon erie pa [via mobile]
Hey D'arcy! It's me Dillon from the 2011 big east championship game(s)! And the 14 year old sports guru! I have a few questions i thought really need to be answered. First, will Tom Brady throw for 400+ yards (or 500+ like last time on MNF)? Will welker have at least 12 catches for over 200 yards? And last, will my pats win tonite? Thanks, and sorry for sending this twice.
D'Arcy Maine (7:37 PM)
Dillon! America's No. 1 14-year-old sports fan! Great to have you back with us. Working backwards... Yes, the Pats should win, I thnk the Pats offense will share the wealth somewhat tonight so I don't think Welker will be putting up those type of numbers and Brady should have a huge game but I don't see him with over 500 yards or anywhere near that mark.

From Stephen: How does it feel to be THE hottest sports reporter/blogger ever??!!
D'Arcy Maine (7:38 PM)
Your check is in the mail, Stephen.
Not Quite So Handsome Rob [via mobile]
Is 'suck for Luck' still a viable option for the Cheifs?
D'Arcy Maine (7:40 PM)
I'm not sure I think this Colts team is capable of winning a game at this point. I think it's Indy's to lose at this point. Literally.
Ralph, Chicago [via mobile]
D'arcy, any chance the Pats cover the 17 pts tonight?
strlngsilver [via mobile]
do you think will the chiefs even score? Will they break the spread?
Justin, Houston [via mobile]
What's the line on this game??
D'Arcy Maine (7:43 PM)
The Patriots are favored by a gaudy 16.5 points. And I think that might be giving too much credit to the Chiefs. The Patriots might cover by the end of the first quarter.
Matthew Tatler Leeds United Kingdom [via mobile]
Hi there! Do you think the way the Packers have been sailing away with the wins that they can be perfect for the rest of the season and win the Championship plus the Superbowl again?
D'Arcy Maine (7:47 PM)
Nice to have some UK representation in the house tonight. Thanks for staying up late with us, Matthew! I wouldn't be surprised if the Packers managed to run the table the rest of th regular season but if the '07 Patriots taught us anything, it's that a perfect regular season doesn't really mean a hell of a lot. GB is obviously the clear NFC favorite at this point but there have been a number of teams that have shown flashes of brillance on certain days so I don't think it's a given they repeat this year.
pete(r) (washington) [via mobile]
Any side bets worth making note of to watch in tonights game?
D'Arcy Maine (7:49 PM)
Want to wager on how many people will still be watching in the 4th quarter?
Sean westlake ohio [via mobile]
Whats the weather like in foxboro tonight
D'Arcy Maine (7:52 PM)
I like easy questions. Thanks Sean. It's currently 33 degrees and the temperature is expected to continue dropping. However, there is little wind and no chance of rain or that white stuff. Thank goodness.
Nard [via mobile]
Who will win tonight? Tebow?
D'Arcy Maine (7:53 PM)
Tebow always wins. Whether he's 2-for-9 or sitting on his couch.
Ian, chicago IL [via mobile]
Hey D'Arcy big game Thursday night who do you thinks going to win Jim or John? Also that wasnt a very good game for the Skelton for MVP candidacy yesterday just saying.
D'Arcy Maine (7:58 PM)
That's one way to spend Thanksgiving with your family, huh? I'm really curious if the Harbaugh brothers will be sharing a turkey afterwards. I think the 49ers are the better team but have a very lopsided disadvantage having to travel across the country on a 4-day week. Think I'm favoring the Ravens right now. I unfortunately can no longer 'favor' anything about John Skelton. But it was fun as a Fordham alum to have two weeks to know what it was like to have some athletic pride. Even if it was half in jest. Sigh.
scott in gawga [via mobile]
miss maine, what do you do with yourself every other day besides monday? (i.e. work)
D'Arcy Maine (8:01 PM)
In addition to other writing stuff (usually this time of year I would be covering the NBA too), I'm a full-time editor for the mobile site. So I get stuck working in an office just like everyone else. I wish I worked one day a week though. That might be the best job ever.
Chris (Chicago, IL) [via mobile]
D'Arcy, any chance that brain-damaged Jets fans stop messaging you things like "Will the Chiefs win?" or is the world stuck with that logic existing in it?
D'Arcy Maine (8:03 PM)
Gotta appluad their dedication, Chris. Although I will continue to encourage Jets fans (and Chiefs fans for that matter) to watch college hoops tonight.
Matt [via mobile]
Did you watch the Kendra finale?
D'Arcy Maine (8:05 PM)
You know me too well. Obviously I did, Matt. Um, I mean because I like to watch what life is like for an unsigned NFL WR. Of course.
Nathan Odom, Maryville Tennessee [via mobile]
So.... Gronkowski for MVP?
D'Arcy Maine (8:07 PM)
Won't happen but he's had some monster games and proven to be an invaluable target for Brady this season. I'll support the case with you, Nathan.
Jacoby from Atlanta. Texas not Georgia [via mobile]
With the way Monday night games have gone this year. I see the Cheifs pulling of a upset.
D'Arcy Maine from Hartford, CT not Hartford... Somewhere else (8:12 PM)
You never know, Jacoby. They play the game for a reason, right? But I think the Pats should win this one and most of you will be watching college basketball by the third quarter.
Joel (hyannis, MA) [via mobile]
Tell jacoby is the chiefs win I will eat my shorts
D'Arcy Maine (8:14 PM)
...And I'll throw a party at a bar in Kansas City.
D'Arcy Maine (8:20 PM)
And on that note, I'm going to wrap this chat up and get this blog started. Would love your company there as well. Thanks to everyone for chatting tonight. Enjoy this game... or whatever you end up watching. Happy Thanksgiving!
