KC Joyner (3:00 PM)
Good afternoon! Let's talk some fantasy football!
Dez or Spiller for flex spot?
KC Joyner (3:01 PM)
Dez. Spiller's got a west coast trip and, as noted in this week's Pass Plays article, Romo and the Cowboys are posting fantastic numbers on stretch vertical passes.
KC...enjoy your work! Would Santonio be a better play than Brandon Lloyd this week with the potential third stringer QB looming in STL. Heyward-Bey is available as well. Thoughts? Thanks.
KC Joyner (3:03 PM)
Very tough call on this one because Lloyd is due to face Brandon Browner, who has been one of the worst CBs in the NFL at times this year. If you need upside due to a tough matchup, go with Lloyd. If you need a surefire 8-10 points with some upside potential, Santonio's the option if Lloyd is dealing with the No. 3 QB.
Chris (LA (without CP3))
Is starting DeMarco Murray and Dez Bryant a smart move when I have AJ Green on the bench? Thanks for the help!!
KC Joyner (3:04 PM)
Another close call, but Bryant wins because his CB matchup is more favorable.
Need help in selecting a WR. Do I play a returning Maclin against the tough Miami Def or play D. Heyward-Bay vs a giving GB Def or Brad Smith vs a weak SD Def?
KC Joyner (3:06 PM)
Maclin's the highest rated on the TFS start-sit charts, so he's the option.
KC Joyner (3:06 PM)
Quick note on the start-sit charts - the price for the last four weeks of the season will be lowered to $15 right after the chat. Check out www.thefootballscientist.com for more details (only site plug of the chat).
KC, I have been absent the past 3 chats and lost all 3 games!!! Lets change that, please HELP!!! PPR LEAGUE, Laurent, Maclin or Boldin at WR2 and Spiller or McGahee at my flex?!?! THANKS!!!
KC Joyner (3:09 PM)
Will try to help! Boldin wins the first one because he tends to put up very strong numbers against weak competition and he has that this week. Got McGahee rated higher than Spiller. Other quick note - fantasy questions can also be sent to my Twitter account, which is @kcjoynertfs. I try to answer as many questions as possible.
Philip Elliot (North Dallas 40)
Looking Ahead:--IF, DMC comes back Week 15 (his target date) for the first round of my Fantasy Playoffs, what would you consider him in his first week back after a 6-7week layoff in NonPPR? Low-End RB2 OR High-End FLEX Option? Thoughts?
KC Joyner (3:11 PM)
And that's not even the weird part, right? (ND40 reference for those who haven't seen this all-time classic). Would list him as a high end flex, as the general rule is to lower the amount of faith one has in a player the first week he comes back from injury.
Lost F. Davis. Pick 2 from Daniels, Fasano, Ballard and Gresham. I have a bye so I'll play match ups for weeks 15/16. Thanks
KC Joyner (3:12 PM)
That is bad news about Davis. Daniels wins one because of his matchups (Carolina & Indy). Would probably go with Ballard in the other spot.
Rick (irvine, ca)
KC... Be my tie-breaker, please... I am torn between starting 3 of these 4 stud WR's (Harvin, Megatron, Nicks, and Dez), last week I sat Harvin and it almost bit me... Oh guru, what to do?
KC Joyner (3:14 PM)
This might be made easy if Ponder is out, as Harvin would be the odd man out if that were the case. In fact, he'd probably be the sit choice either way, as Ponder will be ailing in any event.
Who do you like best of Murry, M.Bush, and Helu (non-PPR)?
KC Joyner (3:15 PM)
Murray win this one.
Thoughts on Johnny Knox? Could you trust him for your playoff life? He has some nice matchups coming up...
KC Joyner (3:16 PM)
Like his matchups but Hanie, who may have been a good deep league pickup while Forte was in the lineup, completely fell apart last week when Forte got hurt. Can't trust this situation unless/until Hanie shows improvement.
what do you do with AP if he plays this week? He certainly won't be getting a full workload, will he? Thanks for all your help this year.
KC Joyner (3:18 PM)
Hey there, more than glad to help! These chats are one of the most enjoyable times of each week. The general idea is to never trust injured players, so if Peterson does play and there is another good option, start that player instead.
TFS - thanks for your help all year! Torn between M Bush and Roddy at flex. Oak may abandon the run early against GB, and Gamble shut down Roddy earlier this year. Who do you like? Thanks.
KC Joyner (3:19 PM)
The Falcons passing offense has been much better as the season has progressed and Carolina's defense still has some pass weaknesses (Gamble not being one of them). White gets the nod here.
Larry Fitzgerald (Alcatraz Island)
Would I be crazy to sit myself for Julio Jones?
KC Joyner (3:20 PM)
The SF defense is tough but Jones injury and his own somewhat tough matchup give Fitz the win here.
Don't shoot the messenger, I was dense enough to sit Brown last night so I can't trust my opinion. Start Moss or Robinson(seperated shoulder) with Boldin. Also play one out of Gore, McGahee(knee) or Spiller. Thanks KC!
KC Joyner (3:22 PM)
Ouch. Sorry to hear about the Brown benching. Robinson gets the close win over Moss. Gore gets the win over the other two.
KC, ESPN PPR League. Been riding Spiller as a WR in the past two weeks and it's paid off but I'm considering flexing him, sitting J-Stew, and starting Damian Williams at WR opposite Colston. Am I overthinking this?
KC Joyner (3:23 PM)
Not very sold on Williams and Stewart does rate higher than Spiller on the TFS start-sit charts. Would stick with the usual gameplan.
I'm scared of being a victim of Shanahanigans this playoff weekend. You guys seem pretty solid on Helu remaining the starter, but would a safer play be BJGE? Thanks for helping me into the playoffs
KC Joyner (3:24 PM)
Got Helu rated much higher on the TFS start-sit charts, as BJGE's usage is so inconsistent.
Tony Sparano (Hot Seat)
Would you take my hot defense vs. a rusty Vick coming back, or Lions DEF vs. Ponder or Webb...
KC Joyner (3:26 PM)
A rare defensive question. Do like Detroit's D but it has its own injury issues to go along with Minnesota's. The Eagles are injured and playing on the road against a defense that has stepped up big time of late. Miami wins that one.
I have a bye this week due to being 3 games up with 3 weeks to go and owning the tie-breaker over the 2nd place team. This follwed 3 straight losses. Anyway....how do you feel about andre johnson going forward after this week?
KC Joyner (3:28 PM)
He's returning from an injury and has a backup QB. He has the talent to overcome these negatives (and Yates has been better than expected at QB), but all in all there will be a lot of other players rated in front of him because of the negatives.
Re: L Robinson over S Moss. You also said earlier to take the healthy player and L Rob has a shoulder issue & didn't practice Wed or Th. Can you please explain? Not trying to be a jerk, just curious...
KC Joyner (3:29 PM)
The injury issue does impact things, but in this case Moss hasn't done very much of late and Robinson has. In putting together the rankings, I just didn't think the injury would make up for the productivity difference. If Robinson doesn't/didn't practice today (have yet to see the injury report) that would change it to a Moss win.
Phil ((looking at last spot for playoffs))
Who would you start as your flex? Boldin or Helu? I like to go RB for my flex because of the number of touches they get.
KC Joyner (3:31 PM)
They are both listed as must starts, so it's a toss up. Boldin has an incredibly favorable matchup, though, and he tends to do extremely well in those types of games. In other words, he probably has an upside edge.
You stay stick with the healthy player(referring to the AP question)....what if the only other healthy RB I have is Gerhart?
KC Joyner (3:32 PM)
Gerhart has been quite productive in AP's absence (see this week's Pass Plays article for more details), but the concern in starting him is that he and AP could split carries. If AP is out, have no concerns at all about starting Gerhart.
If you HAD TO trust a Seattle receiver in a desperation move it would be _________?????
KC Joyner (3:33 PM)
Mike Williams. He's due to face Josh Gordy, a 5th string CB (if memory serves correct).
Good Day KC, Drop Cooper for Burleson or S. Moss for ROS?Play one of them this weekend instead of Colston? Colston hasn't done much in the td department and has some daunting matchups. We play thru week 17 in a 1 ppr with bonuses for longer trd catches. Thank you.
KC Joyner (3:34 PM)
Drop Cooper for Moss, as he has three green rated CBs the rest of the way. Moss over Colston this week, as he has more upside than Colston.
Thank you for running a great FF league this year KC. twenty teams is a deep league but it was a blast.
KC Joyner (3:36 PM)
It was one of the most challenging and enjoyable leagues I've ever been a part of. Most everyone participated as well, which is very cool (and quite rare). Just wish we could have had a deeper playoff pool (the system only allows 4 playoff teams for 20-team leagues, or at least that's the only option that seemed to be available).
Robinson practiced today. Does he get the nod over Miles Austin who is also practicing?
KC Joyner (3:37 PM)
He would get the nod over Austin because he has a better matchup than Austin.
KC Joyner (3:37 PM)
And many thanks for the heads up on the injury report. Usually look it over before the chat, wasn't able to today.
Skeletor (Castle Greyskull)
KC, listened to you about Dez last week and it paid off. You da man! Need you again: On the TFS charts, how do you have Michael Bush and Shonn Greene ranked. Really need that scientific insight again. Thanks!
KC Joyner (3:38 PM)
The power of Greyskull says with DMC out, Bush is the higher rated RB.
Deeper (Playoff Pools)
What's your preferred ratio of playoff teams to league size?
KC Joyner (3:39 PM)
Would have like to have had at least 6 teams in that playoff pool. 4 out of 20 teams just doesn't seem like quite enough.
Mike (San Diego)
KC, top five rated WRs & RBs...who are they this week?
KC Joyner (3:41 PM)
Here goes: WR - Bryant, Welker, V Jax, Jennings and Johnson (Lloyd was in the initial top 5 but may be moved out depending on the Rams QB situation). RB - Lynch, Rice, CJ2K, Foster, McCoy.
Who are some qb's that you would not play over tim tebow.....Having a fight with myself if i should play him this week...Would you start him over sanchez, freeman, flacco, smith, eli
KC Joyner (3:43 PM)
Getting a lot of Tebow questions, which is a bit odd in that fantasy owners don't tend to glom on him like everyone else does. Got Eli ranked higher than him but he still rates over the others mentioned in the post.
KC Joyner (3:43 PM)
Tebow ranks 10th on the TFS start-sit charts, if that gives any indication of where his value should rank this week.
Keep it simple, right? DeMarco plays over Spiller?
KC Joyner (3:44 PM)
Simple question, simple answer - DeMarco plays over Spiller.
Dan-o (Up North)
Do you think Malcom Floyd (a)makes it through the game (b)puts up decent numbers?
KC Joyner (3:45 PM)
Got a lot of faith in Floyd at this point, as he is ranked No. 16 on the TFS start-sit charts. The Bills secondary is in terrible shape.
Caffeine Free Diet Shasta (SC)
Mathews or D. Murray?
KC Joyner (3:46 PM)
Now that has to be the most obscure soft drink reference in TFS chat history. Mathews rates over Murray because his matchup is better (Buffalo still doesn't stop the run well and they will have to worry about protecting their secondary against the Chargers suddenly effective passing attack).
Santa (North Pole)
HoHoHo, Santa will be delivering restaurant gift certificates to you and the missus. Checked the list and found you have been a good boy this year helping to provide great advice to all the chatters even though some of them will be getting coal.
KC Joyner (3:47 PM)
As long as Santa gives my kids cool presents, he can skip giving me anything. All is well on Christmas day if the wife and kids are happy!
Think Crabtree is worth a start this weekend?
KC Joyner (3:48 PM)
Got him listed as a borderline must start, as his matchup against Patrick Peterson is quite favorable.
Jason (Parker, CO)
According to your Top 5 RBs, you'd play Lynch and CJ2K over MJD, correct? Any fear that Brees and Co. limit CJ2K's touches? Thanks.
KC Joyner (3:50 PM)
MJD is really close in the RB rankings (ranks 7th). Rated CJ2K over him because of how the Titans are run blocking and because of the fear that Jacksonville's lousy pass offense will allow TB to concentrate more on stopping the run.
If AP plays...Which one sits: Murray, Spiller or Harvin.
KC Joyner (3:51 PM)
Spiller. Though the bad part is that if AP plays, the Vikings could end up splitting carries with him and Gerhart. Might still want to consider playing Spiller with the idea that at least it is known he would be the bell cow.
Hey KC, agonizing over this decision. Please help. Who sits out of Julio Jones, Santana Moss, and Mike Williams South?
KC Joyner (3:53 PM)
Jones rates lowest on the TFS start-sit charts.
As always, thanks for the great info, KC. Hoping to take home another FFL title this season thanks to the help of you and your colleagues. Have a great weekend, all, and good luck in your playoff races. See you next week.
KC Joyner (3:53 PM)
Thanks to you as well, J.B., for the consistently good questions. And best of luck in that title matchup!
Will Steve Smitn be ok or should I use Jordy Nelson?
KC Joyner (3:53 PM)
Hands down, Jordy.
Lots of Spiller questions. I think they're coming from seeing MJD tear up the Chargers D. Do you think Spiller just isn't good enough for some of those starts over other guys? Chargers run D looked embarrassing.
KC Joyner (3:55 PM)
The Chargers run D did not look good, but a study I did for a Pass Plays article a couple of week's back showed the Bills run blocking was bad and Spiller wasn't getting very good production even when he had good blocking. One strong week out of him just isn't enough to convince me that the trend is fully changed.
Bench one of my terrible RB options: Beanie, J-Stew, Tolbert
KC Joyner (3:56 PM)
Beanie. He's hurt and has a tough matchup.
Quick question, quick answer? Harvin (given Ponder plays) or AJ Green?
KC Joyner (3:56 PM)
Another simple question: Matt Ryan or Carson Palmer?
KC Joyner (3:57 PM)
Dan-o (Up North)
Cam over Brees right?
KC Joyner (3:58 PM)
Actually have Brees over Cam. As long as those single-season records are in sight, Brees will throw early and often. He says he doesn't care about the records but no one in their right mind believes him.
Quick questions....Beanie or Benson at flex.
KC Joyner (3:59 PM)
Benson. They are both injured and have tough matchups, but Benson's situation looks slightly better.
Phil (Chelsea, MI)
seriously thinking about Spillier over Gore. Can you talk me out of it?
KC Joyner (4:00 PM)
Just can't do it. Gore rates higher than Spiller on the TFS start-sit charts.
Are you drinking the Santana Moss kool-aid this week? Like him over Bowe?
KC Joyner (4:02 PM)
Not quite to the extent that others are, but do like Moss over Bowe this week. Well, it's been fun but the kids are home so it's family time. Couple of quick notes. The TFS material is always posted on Twitter @kcjoynertfs. As noted earlier, the start-sit price will be reduced right after the chat (more info at www.thefootballscientist.com). Best of luck this week and hope to see everyone in next week's chats!
