KC Joyner (4:01 PM)
Good afternoon! Let's talk some football!
Hi KC, just an FYI I have tried to be a regular, but my questions just never get answered? I'm gonna be gone tomorrow but could really use your advice for my semifinals matchup. I have to sit one between Lynch, Matthews, Harvin and Wallace. I'm in a 1pt. ppr and I'm about 90% sure I'm going to sit Wallace for Harvin since Big Ben is out. Could use your sage advice? Thanks!
KC Joyner (4:02 PM)
Hey there, more than happy to answer some fantasy football questions, just want to keep most of them related to this evening's matchup. Sitting Wallace for Harvin is a good move.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Who do you think will play in Super Bowl XLVI?
KC Joyner (4:03 PM)
Still sticking with the preseason pick on this one - Steelers versus Packers.
I know you do fantasy questions tomorrow, but I need help for the Falcons game tonight. Do I start the Falcons D tonight against Gabbert, or the Seahawks against Haynie, or the Steelers (without Harrison) against the 49ers? Have to decide soon- thanks!!
KC Joyner (4:04 PM)
Chicago rates slightly higher than Atlanta on the TFS start-sit charts, so they are the pick.
Gabbert actually did a pretty decent job against TB, KC. Any reason to think he can do it again tonight against Atlanta or was Sunday a fluke?
KC Joyner (4:05 PM)
Fluke. Gabbert is getting better but all in all he still looks like a not ready for prime time QB.
President Obama (A new city everyday)
Jordy see more targets without Jennings or is spread the wealth around what we'll see?
KC Joyner (4:07 PM)
Don't mind answering the questions but let's leave the political comments for a political chat, OK? Jordy will see a few more targets but the real beneficiary of Jennings absence will be Finley.
Dez'erve more targets (Dallas)
Am I getting more tha VJax this week,Scientist?
KC Joyner (4:08 PM)
Very creative! They are rated right next to each other on the TFS start-sit charts, with Dez rated slightly higher because of the state of the Bucs pass D.
KC Joyner (4:08 PM)
Quick note - more info about the start-sit charts (which are available for a season-ending price of $15) can be found at www.thefootballscientist.com. Only site plug of the chat.
I know LoRo played half as many snaps as Austin & Dez last week. With the injury to Murray do you see them running more 3 WR sets this week thus helping LoRo a little more?
KC Joyner (4:10 PM)
Targets for Robinson could be an issue both for that reason and the fact that Tampa's run defense is terrible. The Cowboys will want to take advantage of that but they aren't going to want to give Jones 25 carries if they can avoid it, as he is their only good RB at this point, so a lot of 3 WR sets makes sense.
Has there ever been a time when the league has had so many good TE's all at once?
KC Joyner (4:11 PM)
Good question. With so many tight ends being used as flex targets, the goal in drafting players for that position has changed.
Do you think Mendenhall can break the Niners 100 yard streak or their rushing touchdown streak?
KC Joyner (4:12 PM)
Would guess that won't happen.
Hey KC, thoughts on how Chris Ivory will be used if Ingram is out again? Last week he had 13 carries compared to Sproles and PT getting 11 total. Thanks.
KC Joyner (4:13 PM)
Would guess that he could see that many carries but it isn't something to bank on given how the NO offense always changes its pass/rush target distribution week to week.
Do you think that the Patriots will end the Tebow streak this week?
KC Joyner (4:14 PM)
I'll put it this way - Belichick isn't going to make the mistake of not having Demaryius Thomas covered. Both of the Broncos foes made that error the past two weeks and it is part of why Denver was able to win those games. Tebow-mania may finally hit a speed bump this week.
Zach (Bronx, NY)
Re: your Texans article, why did TJ Yates not get a bad decision for his INT and the INT that was called back?
KC Joyner (4:16 PM)
If you mean the one on the pass that was thrown to Foster, it is because that was a miscommunication. That type of error is split between the QB and receiver and isn't listed as a bad decision.
Does Julio Jones rank as a must-start on your charts tonight? He is so up and down....
KC Joyner (4:16 PM)
Jones is ranked fourth on the start-sit charts. He's an absolute must start (which is the highest grade the charts give to a player).
KC! Turner a good option tonight or go with Helu or Beanie in non ppr later this week? Thanks
KC Joyner (4:17 PM)
Turner is a good option but Helu is rated a bit higher on the start-sit charts.
Better start tonight Roddy or Julio?
KC Joyner (4:18 PM)
Roddy tops the WR charts this week, and, as noted earlier, Jones ranks fourth. Start them both if possible but if one has to be picked, Roddy is the choice.
tdiddy (winnipeg) [via mobile]
I'm still not sold on Cam Newton. He throws wayyyyy too many picks, hid completion rate is garbage and 'run first' qb's never have long term success in the NFL. The TV talking heads are droolimg over him, but I think he'll be a back up or out of the leauge in 5 years. A I an idiot or are they?
KC Joyner (4:20 PM)
Newton has made a lot of errors this year, but the reason he may not turn out to be like the other run QB is that he is doing everything he can to become a better pocket passer. My concern about him has more to do with whether or not the fame will go to his head, but if he can keep that in check and continue to work as hard as he has on improving his passing, Newton will be a top 10 QB very soon.
follow up - I'm guessing its safe to assume NO will focus more on the pass against Minnesota's not so good pass D? (more so than normal)
KC Joyner (4:22 PM)
NO will go after the Vikings pass D early and often. Drew Brees, who doesn't care about records, will air the ball out 50 times if he can. (In case it wasn't clear, that records comment was totally facetious)
mike (new jersey)
If the steelers and ravens play again in pittsburgh, who wins and why?
KC Joyner (4:23 PM)
Is Ben healthy for this matchup? Because if he is, the Steelers win this one because their passing game is better than Baltimore's.
ZEKE (San Jose)
Talk science to me about the Ravens pass defense. Real good numbers -- against an incredibly weak schedule (AFC S, NFC W). And both AJs (Hou/Cincy) missed their games. Is this a great FF pass defense or an illusion due to weak opponents?
KC Joyner (4:25 PM)
It's still a very good pass D but the strength of the competition is also a big factor. Let's put it this way - the Ravens are one of the highest scoring fantasy defenses this year but they rank 10th on this week's start-sit charts because they have a tough road matchup on the west coast.
I appreciate pete (ct) saying the Vikes pass D is 'not so good.' They couldn't cover Santa wearing snow shoes.
KC Joyner (4:26 PM)
Yeah, that comment was nicer than it needed to be.
Aside from Finley, do you buy a breakout from upcoming Cobb? I read where Cobb mimics Jennings versatility and ability to play the slot, he might be able to show his stuff next few weeks.
KC Joyner (4:27 PM)
Cobb will also benefit, just maybe not quite as much as Finley.
mike (new jersey)
what about if it is in baltimore?
KC Joyner (4:28 PM)
It helps but Baltimore's passing offense still wouldn't be up to par with Pittsburgh's.
Dominick (arab al)
When will people realize that the reason everybody is making a big deal about tim tebow is that the team had a losing record with him on the bench but a winning one with him ??
KC Joyner (4:29 PM)
Tebowmania is about a whole lot more than his on-field record. The culture battle that has been going on in America for decades now has more than a bit to do with why he is as polarizing as he is.
CT (Philly) [via mobile]
Just to confirm you are recommending starting Harvin over the BEST WR in football, correct?
KC Joyner (4:31 PM)
Sure am. And two things. First, Wallace is outplaying Megatron this year (Johnson has been well off of his pace of late this season). And second, if you don't like this chat (and your repeated inane comments indicate this is the case), it's not as if you have to stick around.
Scott (Northglenn, CO)
Please help KC...ATL def tonight, or go DET or CIN?
KC Joyner (4:32 PM)
Got the Bengals rated higher on the TFS start-sit charts.
I know you're doing fantasy questions tomorrow, but can I ask for a favor since I'm leaving and can't be here manana? Brandon Lloyd (with Clemens starting) or D. Thomas this week at WR?
KC Joyner (4:33 PM)
Thomas is the pick.
You mentioned that the Patriots will be covering D. Thomas, does that mean you are not very high on Thomas against a very, very weak Patriots D?
KC Joyner (4:34 PM)
Thomas is still rated quite high on the start-sit charts, but NE won't be leaving him uncovered in the end zone late in a close game the way Chicago did.
CT (Philly) [via mobile]
Who said anything about Megatron?
KC Joyner (4:35 PM)
You did, genius. The whole Mike Wallace argument was based around his being better than Megatron, who at the time was widely acclaimed as the best WR in the NFL.
Where do you project Griffin III in the 2012 Draft? Late 1st round?
KC Joyner (4:36 PM)
First round, but that could change depending on how the bowl/combine season goes. There are as many as five 1st round QB candidates and, with the strength of the QB position around the NFL, it might cause 1-2 of those players to fall to the 2nd round.
Mark (Austin, TX)
KC, holiday party obligations tomorrow so gotta get this in today! Who's my flex pick in 0.5 PPR out of Felix J, Blount, McGahee, or Lloyd?
KC Joyner (4:37 PM)
Have a fun party tomorrow! Felix is the choice.
Take a step back and take a breath, KC. Don't let anyone rattle your chat mojo.
KC Joyner (4:37 PM)
Just felt like going all Kinison on someone.
Good Day KC, More of the same for Blount, fewer carries as Dallas jumps all over TB and brittle Freeman tries to catch up?Also, what do owe Lynch's great year to at Seattle? Boxes of Skittles? Thank You
KC Joyner (4:40 PM)
More of the same for Blount. He's got maybe a 50-50 shot at getting into double digits again. And regarding Lynch, having seen the impact a bag of Skittles can have on my kids, it's easy to see how they could energize Beast Mode.
Are my glasses to orange/blue? SN's poll question asks whether you would rather have V. Miller or R. Gronkowski for the future. Don't get me wrong--Gronkowski is an incredible player, but I think he benefits significantly from getting passes from Brady and having Welker to keep defenses honest. On the other hand, Miller is the reason Denver's D is respectable. But apparently SN disagrees with me. What do you say?
KC Joyner (4:41 PM)
Bill Walsh used to say that the key to success in the NFL is the ability to generate a pass rush late in games. That philosophy wins the argument for Miller.
Cody (North Dakota)
If RGIII drops to the Broncos they WILL take them. True or False
KC Joyner (4:42 PM)
Not if Tebow continues to progress. They would have an absolute riot on their hands if they kicked him out for RG3.
Kinison with or without the beret?
KC Joyner (4:43 PM)
With the beret and the trench coat. Think of his appearance on the Rodney Dangerfield special or his early HBO specials.
What was your scouting report on Jason Pierre-Paul pre-draft? How has he progressed as a player so far in his pro career?
KC Joyner (4:45 PM)
I only had a chance to review a bit of JPP's college tape pre-draft and was impressed by what it showed. Still probably would not have projected him to turn into the caliber of player he has, but the talent level was quite obvious on tape.
"Think of his appearance on the Rodney Dangerfield special or his early HBO specials." Is there really any other way?
KC Joyner (4:46 PM)
His Family Entertainment Hour material was cool and all, but you are right - classic Kinison is the best.
Do you think we can count on Philip Rivers to have another multi-interception game this weekend against the Ravens D? Or will his 3 game streak of no picks last for another week?
KC Joyner (4:47 PM)
Rivers numbers have improved of late but a lot of that has to do with the lousy pass defenses he's faced. Baltimore will get a pick or two.
Chuck Norris is a Hunter, But Chuck Norris does not hunt! Hunting would imply the possibility of failure! Thoughts?
KC Joyner (4:48 PM)
The books that the Chuck Norris commercial are based on are fall on the floor hilarious.
Why do I have a feeling that, similar to Newton last year, RGIII's stock will continue to rise until he's suddenly being debated against Luck?
KC Joyner (4:50 PM)
Good eye, Matt. RG3's stock is all but certain to continue to rise barring injury or bad performance between now and the draft.
If you enjoyed Kinison, you will also enjoy Louis C.K. Like Kinison, Louis C.K. not for the faint of heart.
KC Joyner (4:51 PM)
Haven't checked out Louis C.K. as of yet, but if you are making a favorable comparison to Kinison, C.K. will be put on the short list of videos to check out.
Chances Raiders beat Det this week? Speed kills but injuries > speed.
KC Joyner (4:52 PM)
I like that formula. Still think Oakland can win that matchup, as Detroit is making the trip out west.
Gronk (Foxboro, Mass)
What do you mean Miller over me? Didn't you see me drag those players down on the sideline. No one spikes a ball like me when I got the TE reception record. Forget Tebowing, GRONKING is the way to go. I am the AFC player of the week. We'll see how Miller does on Sunday as I run by him
KC Joyner (4:53 PM)
Who would have thought we would be talking about Gronking versus Tebowing at this time of year?
Ultimate winner of the NFC East is?
KC Joyner (4:54 PM)
Said it to start the year and will stand by it - the Giants will win the NFC East.
with a new owner, new coach, do the jags draft a new QB? the last time we were in this situation we passed on Big Ben and Aaron Rodgers because a year or two before we had already spent our #1 pick on our "QB of the future" in Byron Leftwich. I feel like were sliding down that path again. Your thoughts?
KC Joyner (4:56 PM)
It depends on how their front office composition. If the current administration stays in place, they may try to stick with Gabbert (which would be a mistake). If there are changes, then a new QB is an almost certainty.
Gotta cut it short today. KC's stock continues to rise with his appreciation of Sam Kinison revealed today. Thanks for the time, KC and everyone. It's always a good time here. See you tomorrow for some Fantasy Football playoff advice. Have a great evening.
KC Joyner (4:58 PM)
Thanks for that closing comment, J.B. No need to laud me over Kinison, as millions of people know how much of a genius Sam was. Quick note - the TFS material is always posted on Twitter @kcjoynertfs. Hope to see you all in tomorrow's fantasy football chat at 3 PM ET!
