Jake Trotter (4:03 PM)
Let's get rolling...
Do you think Mike Stoops will be back? How soon if so?
Haden (Greenwood, AR)
Any more news on Mike Stoops? You would think if he is going somewhere it has to be soon
Jake Trotter (4:05 PM)
Nothing new on the Mike Stoops front, and I don't think we'll hear much until if/when an OU assistant leaves. That will be the sign that something is about to happen. I will say Mike was pretty chummy with the OU coaches/players/admins during the Insight Bowl. Nothing I saw in Phoenix made me believe Mike to OU wouldn't happen.
Do you think rants on twitter from parents directly affects recruiting?
Jake Trotter (4:07 PM)
No. It may be something the coaches have to address. But if a player doesn't go to OU because of what a parent wrote on Twitter, then the coaches didn't do a good enough job recruiting that player in the first place.
Which of OU's WR recruits will see playing time in the Fall of 2012? Will OU's offense improve off of its late season collapse?
Jake Trotter (4:09 PM)
It can only get better. Heupel will have an entire offseason to retool the offense without having Ryan Broyles. That will make a big difference. I can see any of them garnering playing time. Because of their physical skill, Metoyer and Neal may be closest to being ready to play, but OU needs someone with Sterling's ability in the slot, too.
Michael (Edmond, OK)
Where do u see Oklahoma being ranked in the preseason next year?
Jake Trotter (4:09 PM)
With Landry: 5. Without Landry: 12.
Is it a good sign that I saw Mike Stoops with a basketful of groceries at Homeland?
Jake Trotter (4:10 PM)
Definitely not a bad one.
Steve (Aurora, CO)
I was at the Insight Bowl and something that seemed to be lacking from previous OU teams was great speed, quickness on offense/defense. Is that from recruiting different type of athletes?
Jake Trotter (4:11 PM)
I don't buy that. The talent and speed is there. To me, what's been lacking the last couple of years is dominating offensive and defensive lines.
There is no way we're ranked in the preseason top 5.
Jake Trotter (4:12 PM)
Not saying I would vote OU there, or that they deserve to be ranked in the Top 5. Just predicting that's where they'll be.
Sadieogrady (Del City, OK)
How does it feel to hear the sportscasters say 'BellDozer', when you were a big part of the nickname?
Jake Trotter (4:13 PM)
Probably the greatest achievement of my career.
Early prediction OU vs. ND in Norman next year?
Jake Trotter (4:14 PM)
Notre Dame is bad. Sooners by two touchdowns. At least.
Even if Landry comes back, do you think that they will come out with more formations with Bell? What about three wideout set to spread out the defense.
Jake Trotter (4:15 PM)
Yes, Stoops alluded to that the morning after the Insight Bowl. The Belldozer will continue to evolve. Look for more throwing out of the set next season.
With Landry's performances getting worse as the season wound down, how far do you think his draft stock has fallen?
Jake Trotter (4:16 PM)
He went from being the 2nd to the 3rd QB on the board behind Luck, Griffin. But the 3rd QB usually gets taken in the first round. So despite the late season struggles, he didn't fall far.
K Sooner (Norman)
How do coaches defend/flush out the negative comments by recruits and the guys hosting the recruits with the Edward's comments?
Jake Trotter (4:17 PM)
Not sure anything can be done at this point. It's clear that Mario Edwards is a lost cause now. What's done is done. I'm sure there will be some questions asked by the coaches to track down who was doing the negative recruiting. If they figure out who it was, that player could be in hot water.
What are realistic expections for next year Jake?
Jake Trotter (4:19 PM)
Big 12 title. BCS bowl. Anything beyond that is pushing it.
Skycam (Tempe, AZ)
Hey, any word about me getting a look from the OU staff? I have great vision, hit hard and can shut down a game single-handed....
Jake Trotter (4:20 PM)
Stay tuned. I hear Venables might invite you to Norman for an official.
Brandon (Oklahoma City)
When was the last time you saw people hoping their starting QB DOESN'T come back? I think many people are hoping he goes pro instead of staying in Norman
Jake Trotter (4:22 PM)
Quite frankly, that's idiotic thinking. How many college programs would give up half their team to have 1st round picks quarterbacking their offense?
Jared (Clinton, OK)
How much of a boost will juco recruit Kass Everett give the secondary next season?
Jake Trotter (4:23 PM)
He's got a great chance to start at CB. We'll find out in the spring if he can nail down the job.
What are the chances of the Sooners getting Dorial Green Beckham?
Jake Trotter (4:24 PM)
Arkansas is probably the favorite at the moment. But after that, OU is right there.
Kevin (Wichita ks)
Im hearing rumors of return mark mangino any chance?
Jake Trotter (4:26 PM)
I have heard rumblings, too. I give it a small chance. But not impossible, especially if OU loses an off. coach. It would be interesting to see how the admin views Mangino after the way he was booted from Kansas. That could be a roadblock.
can you give us your take on Edwards comments from his visit?
Jake Trotter (4:27 PM)
I think it reflected poorly on OU. It's a very bad sign when players on your own team are doing the negative recruiting. Better believe, coaches from other schools are going to be using Edwards' comments against the Sooners with other players.
How do you think the recruiting class will round out? How many schollies left and who fills them?
Jake Trotter (4:29 PM)
The class is going to be very good. It's hard to pinpoint just how many schollies OU has, since we could see more attrition before signing day. But Stoops said a couple of days ago this class would comprise almost a third of the team. So it could get into the 25-28 range.
Do you think if Landry goes pro that Blake Bell will beat out Drew Allen for start
Jake Trotter (4:30 PM)
Not necessarily. I got the impression this week there are many people on this team who believe Drew Allen would win the competition if it were held now. Bell is a special runner, but Allen has a firmer grasp of the offense and is the better passer right now. The upside to starting Allen is that you could still play Bell with the Belldozer, too. Bell is capable of winning the job. But right now, Allen might have the edge.
What are realistic expectations for next year Jake? Conf champs? Bowls? Wins?
Jake Trotter (4:31 PM)
Depends on the schedule, but assuming it's reasonable, 10-2, Big 12 title, BCS bowl berth. Anything beyond that is getting unrealistic.
Does Norvell take another job somewhere?
Jake Trotter (4:33 PM)
He's been connected to offensive coordinator jobs at Florida, Wisconsin, but will have to see. Norvell wants to be a play-caller, and I think he would leave if that opportunity came along.
Christopher (Kalamazoo, MI)
What is Gabe Lynn's status with OU right now? Didn't see him on the field at the Insight.
Jake Trotter (4:34 PM)
He didn't play, but he's still with the team. I saw him in Tempe walking off the field.
Jared (Clinton, OK)
Any truth to the reports Mike Stoops was yelling at players Friday night? If so, was it a playful yell, a fan yelling, or a coach yelling?
Jake Trotter (4:35 PM)
I was in the press box when this allegedly happened, so I didn't see it with my own eyes. But Mike was talking with a couple of the players after the game. I can confirm that.
what are the possibilities that mike stoops and BV co-coordinate def next year?
Jake Trotter (4:35 PM)
Good possibility. But not a foregone conclusion.
Will Trey Metoyer eligible and will he be on campus this month?
Jake Trotter (4:36 PM)
Yes and Yes. People seemed to be forgetting about what a special talent Trey was at Whitehouse, Texas. He's got a chance to make the kind of impact Stills did last season.
How do you see the secondary shaping up next year? The secondary seemed to be much more consistent with T-Jeff at Safety above Harris and Proctor.
Jake Trotter (4:37 PM)
OU would love to put Jefferson back at nickelback, but I'm not so sure they can afford to. If I had to predict, the start DBs next year would be Everett/Hurst at CB, Jefferson/Colvin at safety, Ibiloye at NB. But don't write off Harris yet. I see him getting another chance down the line.
Mike Bassi (Campbell Ca)
Hi Jake, do you think with Josh in the booth and not a full time QB coach is the reason why Landry regressed so much this season? I saw many time when Landry after a bad throw or a bad series would be alone on the sidelines with no one in his ear. I think he lost a lot when Josh became the OC.
Jake Trotter (4:38 PM)
No question. Don't be shocked if Heupel is back on the sidelines next year.
BOBB (Tuttle, Ok)
Offensive line will be strong in 2012. But who do you see as the starters, especially with the interior and Shead's emergence?
Jake Trotter (4:39 PM)
LT: Lane Johnson, LG: Shead, C: Habern, RG: Ikard, RT: D. Williams. Tyler Evans rotating in at guard.
Can you rank the incoming receivers who have already committed?
Jake Trotter (4:40 PM)
1. Metoyer (assuming the year off didn't mess him up)2. Neal3. Shepard4. WoodsAll four can flat out play, though.
Why DIDN'T Dejuan Miller play? I know he paddles some passes to the ground, but he seems to have earned some PT...especially in his last game.
Jake Trotter (4:42 PM)
Drops played a big part, but also with OU looking to build for 2012, they apparently wanted to get younger guys like Kameel, Trey Franks as many snaps as possible. Dejuan being a senior took him out of the mix.
Mike Bassi (Campbell Ca)
Was Stills injured a lot this year, because it seems as if Stills was a better player last year than this year.
Jake Trotter (4:43 PM)
Nobody will say it, but I believe Stills played through a preseason hamstring injury, which hampered him for much of the season. He didn't have the same explosion, speed he had last season.
Mike Bassi (Campbell Ca)
Do you think what Mr. Miller said to the new receiver prospects will hurt the chances of landing them when he tweeted about coach Norvill?
Jake Trotter (4:44 PM)
No. DGB is too smart to let one Twitter comment sway his decision.
As a recent OU grad and long time fan I feel sorry for Landry. I've never seen a fan base dislike a player who has had a good amount of success. I guess i'm just tired of everyone giving Landry such a hard time. I've been watching OU since the mid 90s so I'm just happy if they can go through a season with everyone healthy and get close to 10 wins.
Jake Trotter (4:46 PM)
That's what happens when you follow the greatest QB in school history. Landry doesn't always have the best body language, which I think annoys fans and reporters and maybe even some of his teammates. But I can say this, 90 percent of the teams in college football would love to have Landry QBing their team.
Drake Plotter (Oklahoma)
What person transferring away impacts the team most next season?
Jake Trotter (4:48 PM)
Assuming no one else transfers, Brandon Williams. There was a reason why OU tried to talk him out of transferring. Austin Haywood is a big loss, too, because OU has no one else returning at tight end.
Jake Trotter (4:49 PM)
Guys, that's all the time we have. Thanks for all the questions. We'll do it again next week, same time, same place. Enjoy all the football the rest of the day.
