NFL Playoffs Chat
D'Arcy Maine (1:46 PM)
Greetings from Gillette Stadium! The Pats here are here. The Ravens are here. And I'm just lucky enough to be in the same building. Questions? Comments? Have a Tebow one-liner you need to get out before it becomes completely irrelevant? Send 'em in!

What do the Pats need to do to win?
D'Arcy Maine (1:48 PM)
If the Pats can figure out a way to get their dynamic passing attack past the Ravens' incredibly tough pass defense, they should be in good shape. But that's kind of like saying 'if Murray State finds a way to win the rest of their games, they'll have a perfect regular season!'. It's so obvious it almost seems pointless to say. So take that for what it is. But I think that's the key factor that will determine the outcome of this contest.

What do you make of Reed's comments on Flacco?
D'Arcy Maine (1:50 PM)
Not smart by Ed Reed to be so public about his thoughts on Joe Flacco in my opinion. The media will find a way to create controversy without you hand-feeding them sound bites. Flacco seems to have a chip on his shoulder about the perception of his ability, both from the media and his teammates, so it will be interesting to see how he uses that. He could play the game of his life... or completely buckle under the pressure. It's unfortunate he has to deal with this in his own locker room.

Can we line up a Chris Treager guest appearance when you chat from Indy? I hear he's got all the scoops.
D'Arcy Maine (1:51 PM)
I've used this line before but I'll use it again... Rob Lowe is LITERALLY my favorite source for NFL breaking news.

What's the weather like in Foxboro?
D'Arcy Maine (1:53 PM)
It actually feel positively balmy here at Gillette today after the past couple of (freezing, snowy) days. It's 29 degrees, overcast with little winds. Not bad for a football game in January in New England. Although, I was kind of hoping it would snow during the game today. But that's probably because I'm fortunate enough to be seated indoors.
D'Arcy Maine (1:56 PM)
This just in: Chad Ochocinco is inactive for today. Not that's he's been particularly active in the Pats offense all season. But I digress.
Greg, MI [via mobile]
What is an X factor for NE today?
D'Arcy Maine (1:57 PM)
Hmmmm, good question Greg. I think the Patriots will use their playoff loss to the Ravens from two seasons ago as extra motivation today. Even the guys that weren't on the team are well aware of it and I think they'll be playing with a little something extra as a result. Don't think Belichick isn't thinking about it.
Mike, Portland, OR [via mobile]
Of the four remaining team's, who if any would still be standing if Tim Tebow were there Quarterback?
D'Arcy Maine (1:59 PM)
With all due respect to the four remaining offenses... None. Tebow doesn't have a strong enough arm to get the ball to receivers consistently enough to play in a conference championship game.
AJ de Guzman [via mobile]
Of the Pats advance today who do u think they'll be cheering for as an opponent in the next game??
D'Arcy Maine (2:02 PM)
Great question, AJ. If you asked any of them that question right now they would give the standard, "we're just focused on Baltimore" response. But I'm sure they all want the G-Men. Solely to avenge the 2007 season. Hell hath no fury like Bill Belichick scorned.

Bigger Super Bowl Storyline: Brady wins in his biggest rivals house, or the Ravens avenging the loss of the Colts?
D'Arcy Maine (2:06 PM)
Both good storylines. It's kind of amazing how many potential storylines there are with any combination of these four remaining teams - The All-Harbaugh Bowl, Pats look to avenge 2007 vs. the Giants, etc. just to add a few more. I think Adam Schefter said it best earlier this week, there is a no-lose scenario with any of these potential matchups. More potential drama than on an episode of the 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills'. Not that I watch that every Monday night or anything...
Logan ,Ga [via mobile]
What are the odds that Flacco has a big game because of Ed Reeds comments and gets a win today
D'Arcy Maine (2:09 PM)
I think that's one of the most intriguing storylines today, Logan. No doubt he wants to prove everyone wrong, including his own teammates but I'm not sure how many people are actually capable of handling that type of pressure in an effective way. It could also be too much and bring out the 'bad Joe' we've seena handful of times this season.
D'Arcy Maine (2:09 PM)
Interesting fact about Flacco though, he is the only QB in NFL history to win a playoff game in each of his first four seasons in the league.
Mike (Orlando) [via mobile]
Good news for Ochocinco: his catch:drop ratio can't get worse today.
D'Arcy Maine (2:11 PM)
That's the nicest possible thing one could say about Ocho right now.
Drew, fl [via mobile]
do u think its safe to say that the patriots are the favorites to win it all?!
D'Arcy Maine (2:14 PM)
According to the Vegas experts they are, Drew. The current odds favor a Pats-49ers showdown in Indy with New England as the current favorite.
Mike (Orlando) [via mobile]
Do you think Ray Lewis will retire if the Ravens lose today?
D'Arcy Maine (2:18 PM)
If we were talking about any other player, I would say most likely. But we're talking about Ray Lewis. If he could, I really think he would play another 15 seasons. He said he would retire if the Ravens won the SB this year but has since even kind of backtracked on that. I don't see him retiring this year regardless. Just a hunch. The dude loves football too much to walk away just yet.
Jim Baltimore [via mobile]
Why no respect for Ravens?
D'Arcy Maine (2:24 PM)
On a national level, Jim? I'm not sure if that's entirely true. I think you would be hard pressed to find someone that doesn't respect the Ravens D. The offense is slightly different story and Ed Reed's public questionning of the QB didn't help their case. Patriots are favored by 7.0 but I don't think anyone would be surprised if the Ravens pulled this one off today.
Bruce, Taunton MA [via mobile]
Did you get a look at Ed Reed's mobility in warmups ? Did he appear to be running full speed ?
D'Arcy Maine (2:27 PM)
I'm watching him as I write this, Bruce. He looks to be at full speed from my vantage point with no real signs of that left ankle injury. Although it's hard to ever know for sure until one is in an actual game situation.
Torry (Queens, NY) [via mobile]
So as a Tom Brady fan, do you appreciate his dance moves?
D'Arcy Maine (2:32 PM)
In a 'good for him for trying!' kind of way. But I don't think he'll be on Dancing With The Stars anytime soon... Granted, I watched Digger Phelps bust a move on GameDay yesterday and think they might be about equal in the dancing ability category.
D'Arcy Maine (2:33 PM)
The P.A. system is playing Jay and 'Ye's 'Paris'. Also known as the 'Ball So Hard' song. Who knew the Patriots could be so welcoming?
D'Arcy Maine (2:34 PM)
That does it for me, gang. Thanks for joining me. I'll be live blogging during the game. Hope you'll bring your wit and commentary over there as well. Enjoy the games!
